Two years later, there's been massive updates to the game, some that improved the look of the game to give it more of its own identity, some to make certain things make more sense. Like you now need hinges to make a chest and tongs to pick up hot items. There's now a device for warding away rifts if you want to protect your base. There's a homo sapiens mode that takes out the rust world/sanity mechanics to focus purely on survival. There's now proper oceans. (Though they aren't terribly interesting yet.) There's also a bug net and a frankly ridiculous amount of butterflies to catch with it! The music player's now a wax cylinder instead of a record player and the merchants will chatter with you. There's now a raft and an oar in-game now. Lots of little touches and big improvements, with more to come.

On the wiki there is a couple first day guides. Also, in the handbook (key is H) there is a bunch of guides like "Survival Starter Guide." Your handbook is the key to everything. With clay making (the copper pot), you can press F and select duplicate layer, speeds it WAY up. Also you can find copper chunks on the surface if you look around on the ground. Cellars also don't need to be underground, just made of dirt or stone and are maximum 7x7x7 in dimension.
This isn't Minecraft 2. This is a variant of it. Neither is superior to the other. Some people like the extra complexity, realism, and grittiness that VS provides and some people like the more simplistic, fantastical, and creative approach that MC provides. Also, yeah, this game definitely (seems to) run better, but the only reason MC runs kinda bad is because of all the damn highly unoptimized legacy code that was built into its core long ago. Hopefully, this upcoming cave update will fix that. Also, I have questions of how much a VS server can take as compared to an MC server.
Hit the nail on the head. What sets vintage story apart from most minecraft clones is the progression from start to finish. In minecraft, you smash trees down with the back of your hand. In vintage story, you chip rocks together, put them on the end of a stick, then start felling trees to get firewood, which is needed to actually start making what you need to get proper tools and to keep yourself properly fed. Neither ends up being a worse option, but one ends up lasting longer in terms of how much time you can sink into it before you get tired of the base game mechanics.
The Vintage Story world looks beautiful. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, it's quickly becoming one of my favourite games. A nice surprise, I thought I was over voxel-type games, but apparently not :)

Great you've got me addicted to another game, this is gonna be Factorio all over again. It sure is difficult though. So many mechanics that the game just doesn't explain.
Part of the reason why Minecraft isn't that is because the Minecraft team got very comfortable with the Modding Community. I played this modpack in Minecraft and it's basically a tiny bit better in the sense that you can integrate OTHER mods into it on top of this. I'm not sure if you're even aware, but the type of mods minecraft has are way beyond this. You have space exploration mods, Sci-fi technology, Magic , Vampirism , multi Dimension mods, Hardcore bosses mods , Rpg, Superhero, but also Hardcore immersive experiences like this. Heck there was a mod in which You Could build an antimatter collider in order to harness antimatter power, the collider had to be MASSIVE like the Hydron collider and could take you a day or two to build just the machine parts(not to mention gather resources). THE ISSUE with minecraft is mod sustainability , version control and Inability to make money out of these mods. Due to copyright / player donation interest and such.

Modded minecraft is insane. Check out "Thaumcraft" for an example of what's minecraft like these days.
or even a modpack, Skyfactory is great for learning all the mods
A game that started out as a Minecraft mod being better than a AAA survival game? I feel like this should be more surprising than it is
You’re used to those words in the title aren’t ya Mack 😉

Mmm currently going through Baldur's Gate 2 with lots of mods so I can probably finish it in 3 years and then go Velheim or this haha.
Man this game is so good guys. Plus the updates keep adding more. Get it.
You won't believe how good Loop Hero is.
I've been so interested in that game.
When you got attacked at the start of the video and Cass just stood there. You should have played the song 'Stand By Your Man.'
This is a challenging and very fun game. Even single player is enjoyable. And don't forget, there are a ton of excellent free mods for this game on their official mods site.
Great work, Mack
The mod the game is based off of is Terrafirmacraft. So honestly if you have minecraft java just install that XD.
This game looks like it subdivides the blocks to a lot smaller grid sizes. Maybe that mod you speak of does that with Minecraft too.
@@TerryMartinART the mod has basically the same crafting system. With some minor changes here and there. Honestly, what makes this game sound appealing is that it runs well. Whereas with minecraft its russian roulette on whether or not the game runs ok. Especially with mods.
@@crapwithanopinion2919 This game I might have to give a try. Thanks, been in game limbo looking for something.
@@TerryMartinART There are already other mods that lets you place smaller blocks. Quite amazing really.
You can basically make block sized statues this way.
Hell you can even make a whole build with "microblocks".
@@darken2417 I pulled up a video seeing what you are talking about. Pretty cool. Been meaning to try Minecraft out ever since the RTX update, looks very different from seeing now.
I'm still addicted to Valheim but I'll keep this one in mind for a later date.
Thanks Mack.
Yeah this is Minecraft Terrafirma Craft, but if I want Terra Firma craft I'll play that mod.
As someone who played a lot of terrafirmacraft, trust me, this is worth it.
Having their own engine surely will let them get the game mechanics exactly how they want it.
@@gabb6552 Nope, I don't buy Modded MC clones, they'll have to really do their best to impress me. And they haven't yet.
@@_mailer They are working on a new update, look for Terra Firmacraft: The Next Generation.
Mack... a standalone modded version of minecraft is still just minecraft. Maybe it's superior to vanilla minecraft, but it's still bloody minecraft.
It's not minecraft, it's their own engine. Although it's probably very much like playing modded minecraft, but minus the horrible 10 minute load at the start XD.

"Although it's probably very much like playing modded minecraft."
Exactly.
I truly enjoy and trust your reviews. Thanks for all the hard work!
Once again, another great vid mack!
I miss the days when games were fun, and not like repetitive chores.
Each to their own, but when you're carving the shape of your arrows, well that's just throwing life away for me.
i smell gold tinted glasses syndrome
Looks great, but I would have to come out of retirement to play this game.
At what point is it less time intensive to just craft IRL :D
Thanks for sharing this not just the generic minecraft clone def a buy from me.
Looks like this s what you were after from Valheim with all the super deep immersion and individual arrow crafting
You've introduced me to two fantastic games this year, Mack. Dyson Sphere Program and Valheim both are excellent.
hey Mack are Urtuk the desolation and Curse of the dead gods on your radar? Both look pretty deece and worth a wab I think.
