My 16 year old daughter asked me about Elvis recently because she’s always hearing me play his music and watching his movies. She said “I’m very interested in him but my dad (her biological father from my wife’s previous relationship), said he was a racist.” So I sat her down and gave her the history of who he was and what he accomplished and the influence he had and still has. But I also told her was NOT A RACIST!. I told her to always do research because I was getting those same ideas about him from people when I was growing up as a fan. I just turned 47 on Jan 14. Been a fan of him since i was 8 yrs old. I’ll always defend him to ignorance.
Incredible stuff Marc!! Thank You!!
Very well said. The people who say Elvis was racist. They have blinkers on. If only they could take them off and realise how much Elvis admired Black people and of course they could enjoy Elvis presley music. But for now that's never going to happen. And the Blinkers will stay on. SAD.
Marc. Thanks for doing the research. That has always been a tough pill to swallow as it is SO far from the truth concerning Elvis.
Thank you so much for your research and sharing it! Good day to have watched this! ❤️
He stole Jackie Wilson's dance moves, and songs from big mama thorton, and chuck berry. I will never respect him!
It was amazing! I was at the Jackson's fantastic fan day arrived early before any of the other fans arrived ...the store was empty except for the store workers and the Jackson's crew. It was 30 minutes after meeting, talking and taking pictures - the crowd started coming into the store Michael grab my hand and I grad my cousin's hand and we ran up stairs...Micheal said he wanted the ladies (us) safe so he took control...we end up on the roof as we peeped over to see the mass that formed in minutes down below us...I will never forget that amazing day!!!!!!
Those bothers were so nice....
What a great story about the Jacksons my friend Spa Guy. Also the story about the WDIA I knew nothing about. The photos prove that Elvis was the coolest. He was so happy to be with everyone. Nobody can but Elvis can. Thanks to Ashley, Trey and you for bringing us more stories about Elvis. Take care❤️🕺🏻
That’s one of those “I never heard about that one” stories😳
Awesome find! Oh yes I remember Woolco’s thats where mom shopped before Wal-Mart came to town
Yes, and thank you. And EP mentioned the Jackson Five favorably during a concert of his, and encouraged his audience to go check them out in Las Vegas, NV at the Hilton International hotel. 😀⭐️
Im a big Michael Jackson Fan and enjoyed this video very interesting Thank you for posting!!!
I told my aunt about this and she said she was actually in that crowed that day and didn't leave until it was damn near empty..... She said the story is false that the store was looted!! The people were kind and law abiding and left once The Jackson's left! And I notice that even when you look at the photo the people where calm. THE LOOTING PART IS FALSE!!!
I hope you are right but it was written in several different accounts of the story.. I was't there I only tell what was reported..
The Commercial Appeal didn't say a word about looting in their story. It was said that "several thousand dollars of damage" happened as the crowd surged into the store with "no injuries or arrests." Sounds like some merchandise might have gotten broken in the rush to me. Glad your aunt got to be there that day.
A couple years ago, I was watching a "documentary" on Elvis, and I got really upset with Van Jones's (CNN) comments when it came to race and Elvis. Jones seemed to really have no idea about Elvis at all, but yet they thought he was worthy enough to put in the "documentary." They way Jones painted him, you'd think Elvis had personally robbed every African American in the United States. It was total garbage.
That's changing. Thanks to researchers like Billy Stallings! No one has done this kind of work before! Thank God for people like him!
Its CNN There all left wing liberals
Shouldn't expect anything less. It's the Counterfeit News Network.
We all know that Elvis wasn't racist. The people who say these stupid things are just so jealous of Elvis because how famous he came and how famous he still is. They are so green with envey Get over it. Because Elvis name and fans are going to be around for a long long time to come. Thanks spa guy great video.
Some of them are so because they are being fed inaccurate information from very bad sources. They may have never even spoken to anyone who has ever been in the same room with Elvis. I direct people like that to first person reports about Elvis. The best sources are The Sweet Inspirations or Cissy Houston interviews, James Brown Interviews, Whitney Houston Interviews, Muhammad Ali interview. There are video of Elvis with Sammy Davis Jr enjoying each other’s company. People like this crush anything negative from anyone. Don’t upset yourself defending Elvis, it has already been done. This keeps your heart light and stops you from possibly getting mad. I am fortunate that 1 person that I know for a fact was in a room with Elvis said hello to me one day. Be blessed.
Right, he simply culturally appropriated like all wyt entertainers do
Elvis and Michael are two of my favorites. Thanks for another great video!
Another amazing video Spa Guy. Thank you so much. 👏🏼
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Wow that is a kewl video I liked Michael Jackson but not as much as I love Elvis Presley . This was very interesting ty Mr.Spa Guy
They were known as the Jacksons after they left Motown, not the J5. The Jacksons were not up and coming, they had already made history 7 years before this appearance by having 4 number one records right off the bat. By ‘77 they had already sold at least 65 million records
I would say that is why they had 10,000 people show up..
Thank you absolutely
That is a great story !! I've never heard of this before . I've never got to see Elvis or The Jackson 5 , but I did get to see B B King at a car show in Atlanta back in the 80's . He put on a great show that night too . Thank you for sharing another great piece of music history Spa Guy !!
Thanks for those details. Historical location. And that was Woolco department store.
At 5minutes,it looks like Elvis’s arm is in a sling. Thanks for another great piece!
Very awesome to know this stories.
Great job Ashley and Spa guy.loved this.i think Elvis was in Hawaii on his last vacation at this time.
ELVIS: The WORST racist EVER!! 🤣🤣🤣. Great video Billy!!
Great video, Elvis was a brother in more ways than one and we African Americans in Memphis never would buy into that narrative about Elvis, Jackson five and wdia Elvis and Rufus Thomas.. man now that's some Memphis history for you!!
Thanks Billy, Ashley and Trey...you guys are the best
James Brown's quote about Elvis : 'I wasn't just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him ... I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There'll never be another like that soul brother'.
Every time I see a picture of E I haven’t seen before, it never fails to shock me what a handsome man he was. Such a sweetie.
Thank you Spa Guy, Ashley & Trey! Another interesting & cool story!
Another great little video. Again never heard this story before. Pictures I've never seen before thank again spa guy and Ashley.
Wow interesting story about the Jacksons'. I have not heard before. It was awesome they paid for the items taken . Elvis was no racist he cared about everybody no matter color or faith. Thank you Spa Guy and friends.
Great story!! Love your videos!
Awesome video! I was just watching videos of Michael yesterday! So crazy. Thank you Mr. Billy.
Enjoyed thanks
Love the videos great research keep it coming
Yes Elvis wernt racist no way. Claims from certain people is just pure madness. Intresting video still 👍
Why do whyt people get so
Flabbergasted whenever someone calls them out for racism lmao
I live in Memphis, my mom and aunt took three of my cousins, my brother and myself that day. People everywhere.
Congratulations on 45K subscribers. You hard work, loyalty and great commitment to present accurare Elvis'history is totally paying off.
I love the way you said that Spa Guy!!
thanks billy for this video and the effort you always put in and thanks to ashley and trey for there input for making these videos
Think of the occasions recorded or in print where Elvis publicly stated singers as being an influence or as admiring greatly, and inevitably they were African American. Roy Hamilton, Jackie Wilson, Fats Domino, Arthur Crudup, Johnny Bragg just for starters! There are probably more occasions than white artists - hardly the ramblings of a racist! Another cool vid guys!
Hi 😅👍the spaguy moving imogie really makes me laugh😂😂awww the jackson 5love them elvis did too, think Michael was in a lift with him once as a boy he couldnt speak he was in total awe!! Of the man😅👌Michael jackson was no child molester either a victim of extortion, just saying🙄you get some amazing content on your channel really appreciate it, i learn things everytime you send a post, great pictures too thankyou so much from uk, im sure Elvis was no racist he loved black people, grew up with them, thanks again👍🇬🇧❤️👌😅
I remember seeing that photo when I was a kid! Didn't realize it was in Memphis
Fantastic
Thank you!
Another great video Spa Guy. And you highlight it really well to prove Elvis wasn’t racist. One in the eye for people trying to say he was. Fascinating bit of Jackson 5 history too.
Thanks Billy always good and things that you did not know. This channel is a pleasure. BTB E G.
Wow thats interesting for sure. 👍🏻😎
You found the spot, it's Got To Be There :-)
ive passed that place a few times never knew this
Oh my goodness, I've never heard this story, but then again I didn't really keep up with the Jackson 5 and for the longest time (as a child) had no clue that Elvis lived in Memphis. I can't imagine the fans destroying a store like that and wondered how Elvis felt about that. People go nuts that is for sure. I never understood it, it's not like they were Elvis after all. lol I think that is about the only person I'd go "nuts" over and it certainly wouldn't be like most people's "nuts". After all, they are all human and put their pants on one leg at a time. Great video and no, I have to agree, Elvis was the least racist person. I never understood racism either, doesn't matter your color, we all bleed and we are all children of the Lord. Keep bring these great video's Billy and thanks for much for all your detective work!
Yup the Jackson's was really huge
Very Interesting.. Thanks for sharing Billy😊I Always believed that Elvis saw the person and the heart of a person.. not the colour. EP Forever💞
My uncle was the tire manager at that Woolco store.
10,000 people came out & a frenzy in the store...
Like a modern day Black Friday Sale.
50% off all items !!!
Jackson Five were popular for sure.
Good to see the light posts buildings ...just reminders of that day.
Remember seeing them on Ed Sullivan tv show which came on Sunday evenings.
Good stuff.
Thanks for a great story about the Jackson 5 from March 1977 Billy. We all know that Elvis wasn't racist. For the guys that say Elvis was a racist I`d say....you can`t make your like grow brighter by blowing somebody else`s candle out.⚡️
Great story Elvis was a legend
O lindo se apresentou aí?
So love!!!
I Rimember you...
Saying Elvis was racist is like saying Sanford and Son hated junk. Lol. Black culture and music was part of his career. He loved everybody.
If you zoom in further you can vaguely see the old Kroger letter signage in the shopping center across the street. The Kroger was still there til recently when it became a CashSaver grocery store. Most shopping centers that old have upgraded the parking lot lighting but not this complex.
Once again great work Spa Guy you need your own Elvis cable show.....btw I think it would be great if you can interview Estelle Brown and the woman who Elvis spontaneously bought that Cadillac for.
I have interviewed Estelle and thought I already put it out.. Can't find it.. I will find it and get it done..
I absolutely agree about Elvis, he was a great man who loved black people RIP Big homie ✊🏾👑
His background singers "The Sweet Inspirations" were three black women he traveled with, and did studio work on all his records. I grew up in the Caribbean and all his movies and music was played on the radio. I'll love Elvis forever.
Wow thats crazy. Being from Memphis I never knew this. So thats where Michael was 😱
Hi, cool
Good for Elvis!!!!! A Good Man.
I was there that day. My mom and her brother took me and my cousins there to catch the Jacksons.
It was supposed to be an in-store autograph signing, but the crowd grew too large. So when the security moved the Jacksons to the top of the building, the crowd went crazy when Michael and his brothers stepped to the edge of the roof. So, since they couldn't get close to the Jacksons on the inside of the store, the fans went inside the store to try and find the stairwell to get to the roof with the Jacksons.
When security tried to keep the fans from reaching the stairwell that was located in the shoe dept, a few people decided to snatch shoes such as converse while running out of the store.
You are fibbing when you say they emptied the store out.
They said that in the news story so whomever wrote the story was fibbing.. Look at the pictures if there was still people in the store when that picture was taken then there where a whole lot more people than the story said.. By the way you can't fib about something that you did not witness you can only be wrong.. Two completely different tihngs..
Another enjoyable Video, Billy. Thanks for posting those great shots of Elvis. Glad you point out how bad he was at being racist. Presley loved and was influenced by the rhythm and blues Music recorded by Black Musicians. He gives them a lot of credit during one of his rare interviews speaking about early Rock and Roll. I also love that story about the Jackson's looting Woolco; that's too funny. I wonder how many people know that. Thanks again, Billy.
Great video. I wonder if Elvis ever met Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin or Ray Charles. For me, they are possibly the only singers that can match Elvis. I never thought Elvis was racist. I believe he opened many doors and acknowledged the origins of his music and style. I didn't mention Little Richard because I believe they met. I heard Elvis liked Bill Kenny of the Ink Spots. They were my mother’s favourite band ☺️
Cool
Dang. I cant believe all those fans destroyed that store and emptied it out. I bet the press in and around memphos had a field day with that report.
Side note. I grew up and now again live next too gary Indiana. Home of the Jacksons. I had just moved back here right before Michael passed away. I drove by their house, where they grew up. Lots and lots of people there. People still leave things there often. There is a theatere where the "Jackson 5" performed on Broadway, in Gary Indiana. For many years after the theatere closed, the marquee said the "Jackson 5".
Are there any history of Elvis and the Jackson's ever being in the same building? Just would be interesting to know if he ever met his daughter future husband.
ruclips.net/video/JrAaPO3YH4o/видео.html
Is there a chance of more Jackson’s /Michael stories and videos?
Certainly... I did film one on California but it is a sad one..
We’ll just another day in Whitehaven looting stores!!!!Whitehaven was such a wonderful clean community and look at it today
And Michael used say this was a "low period" in his career. Not as popular as when he was a kid singer. Well, NO. I saw this picture before, never knowing it was in Memphis. Thanks. Yes, Lisa enjoyed the J-5! Heck, they were a cartoon! I remember it and I loved the cartoon, and everything. I guess she did, too. But she's Lisa, and I'm not. LOL
Right he was real popular back then But when thriller came out he was in a whole different Planet So to him it wasn't nothing back then Because how crazy famous he got
Yes Lisa married Michael but I think Elvis might have been horrified NOT for the oft repeated nonsense of him being a racist but for other more obvious reasons. Good Lord any real Elvis fan knows his roots and his history. The pinnacle of a NON racist. Thanks for ALWAYS educating people Billy
Interesting facts .
Titan Up!
Billy thanks for another great story but I really think there is no need anything for anyone any of us who know anything about Alvis to mention the word racist the word racist and Elvis Presley don't even go together any Elvis fan or anyone for that matter within the Intelligence would know that thanks and respect to you Billy
Another part in Memphis history so rich in history amazing
And Elvis a racist dont think so I dont know why people still say it he didnt care what side of the track you came from great video thanks tuss
As Elvis fans we have to stop mentioning racism and responding to claims of racism when it comes to this man. He did too much work, great work for it to be whittled down to such a fruitless argument.
Awesome thing that the Jackson 5 did and that place looked packed! People who don't know ANYTHING about Elvis are the ones who call him racist. Its all out of ignorance and/or misinformation. God bless EVERYONE!
👊👏👏👏👏👏!!!
👏👏👏👏Achados históricos.
Kool
He wasnt racist
But if he was he would of kept it to himself like he did his public views - madison square garden
It's an irony that people would say Elvis is racist. No way. He sings songs that Mahalia Jackson sang.
Hey Spa Guy is that the same plaza on Elvis Presley and Shelby Drive?
It is in a different part of town..
Thank you, I get tired of the Elvis bashing.
Anybody know didegee price or di anne price
I know white Southerners - some in my family - who are good and moral people, in most respects, and certainly don't mind blacks excelling in music and certainly sports. But behind closed doors, when it comes to bigger things, that's not always the case. Not saying Elvis was this way, but he obviously chose not to speak out one way or the other, on segregation, for starters, then later civil rights. Or did he? I can't recall anything. Does not mean he was racist, but the status quo was likely okay to him. He grew up in that time period, too, so it's natural that there was a level of acceptance and lots of herd thinking. We all get caught up in that. Elvis used the "I'm an entertainer" line to push back against those who wanted him to express an opinion. In reality, though, Elvis was having a hard enough time keeping his own life together. If you can't manage your family and core group of people around you, and it ends up killing you due to the stress, it's hard to imagine you'd have the mental strength to be a figure like Nelson Mandela or Gandhi - and they had flaws. That was never going to be Elvis, though. And in fairness, some of our other artists don't really stand for much. Money rules. Fame is addictive. And lots who are entertainers are craving adoration. When you speak, well, you lose support and love from the masses.....certainly in the short-term. I love Elvis, but also just understand he was a complicated person, like us all.
DIGALO EN ESPAÑOL PLEASES GRACIAS😆
How did the Jackson leave there helicopter or car
Ya know you can be just as juicy as a peach but you will find some people that don't like peaches lol xoxo
Elvis wasn't a rascist!
Was it before 77 cause Jermaine had left they were Jacksons then
I don't know much about the Jackson 5 just learning..
Is Bob Joyce Elvis?
Not even Close!!
Bob Joyce is not Elvis. People should stop thinking that this stupid story is true. It's very disrespectful to Elvis and his family and his fans
Didn't that use to be the Waffle House
Very interesting. Thank you Billy, Ashley & Trey! As always, I appreciate all your hard work!
