    My 16 year old daughter asked me about Elvis recently because she’s always hearing me play his music and watching his movies. She said “I’m very interested in him but my dad (her biological father from my wife’s previous relationship), said he was a racist.” So I sat her down and gave her the history of who he was and what he accomplished and the influence he had and still has. But I also told her was NOT A RACIST!. I told her to always do research because I was getting those same ideas about him from people when I was growing up as a fan. I just turned 47 on Jan 14. Been a fan of him since i was 8 yrs old. I’ll always defend him to ignorance.

      Very well said. The people who say Elvis was racist. They have blinkers on. If only they could take them off and realise how much Elvis admired Black people and of course they could enjoy Elvis presley music. But for now that's never going to happen. And the Blinkers will stay on. SAD.

      Marc. Thanks for doing the research. That has always been a tough pill to swallow as it is SO far from the truth concerning Elvis.

    It was amazing! I was at the Jackson's fantastic fan day arrived early before any of the other fans arrived ...the store was empty except for the store workers and the Jackson's crew. It was 30 minutes after meeting, talking and taking pictures - the crowd started coming into the store Michael grab my hand and I grad my cousin's hand and we ran up stairs...Micheal said he wanted the ladies (us) safe so he took control...we end up on the roof as we peeped over to see the mass that formed in minutes down below us...I will never forget that amazing day!!!!!!
    Those bothers were so nice....

    What a great story about the Jacksons my friend Spa Guy. Also the story about the WDIA I knew nothing about. The photos prove that Elvis was the coolest. He was so happy to be with everyone. Nobody can but Elvis can. Thanks to Ashley, Trey and you for bringing us more stories about Elvis. Take care❤️🕺🏻

    I told my aunt about this and she said she was actually in that crowed that day and didn't leave until it was damn near empty..... She said the story is false that the store was looted!! The people were kind and law abiding and left once The Jackson's left! And I notice that even when you look at the photo the people where calm. THE LOOTING PART IS FALSE!!!

    • @SpaGuy

      I hope you are right but it was written in several different accounts of the story.. I was't there I only tell what was reported..

    • @wallywallace7410
      @wallywallace7410 Год назад +1

      The Commercial Appeal didn't say a word about looting in their story. It was said that "several thousand dollars of damage" happened as the crowd surged into the store with "no injuries or arrests." Sounds like some merchandise might have gotten broken in the rush to me. Glad your aunt got to be there that day.

    A couple years ago, I was watching a "documentary" on Elvis, and I got really upset with Van Jones's (CNN) comments when it came to race and Elvis. Jones seemed to really have no idea about Elvis at all, but yet they thought he was worthy enough to put in the "documentary." They way Jones painted him, you'd think Elvis had personally robbed every African American in the United States. It was total garbage.

      Some of them are so because they are being fed inaccurate information from very bad sources. They may have never even spoken to anyone who has ever been in the same room with Elvis. I direct people like that to first person reports about Elvis. The best sources are The Sweet Inspirations or Cissy Houston interviews, James Brown Interviews, Whitney Houston Interviews, Muhammad Ali interview. There are video of Elvis with Sammy Davis Jr enjoying each other’s company. People like this crush anything negative from anyone. Don’t upset yourself defending Elvis, it has already been done. This keeps your heart light and stops you from possibly getting mad. I am fortunate that 1 person that I know for a fact was in a room with Elvis said hello to me one day. Be blessed.

    They were known as the Jacksons after they left Motown, not the J5. The Jacksons were not up and coming, they had already made history 7 years before this appearance by having 4 number one records right off the bat. By ‘77 they had already sold at least 65 million records

    Think of the occasions recorded or in print where Elvis publicly stated singers as being an influence or as admiring greatly, and inevitably they were African American. Roy Hamilton, Jackie Wilson, Fats Domino, Arthur Crudup, Johnny Bragg just for starters! There are probably more occasions than white artists - hardly the ramblings of a racist! Another cool vid guys!

    Oh my goodness, I've never heard this story, but then again I didn't really keep up with the Jackson 5 and for the longest time (as a child) had no clue that Elvis lived in Memphis. I can't imagine the fans destroying a store like that and wondered how Elvis felt about that. People go nuts that is for sure. I never understood it, it's not like they were Elvis after all. lol I think that is about the only person I'd go "nuts" over and it certainly wouldn't be like most people's "nuts". After all, they are all human and put their pants on one leg at a time. Great video and no, I have to agree, Elvis was the least racist person. I was there that day. My mom and her brother took me and my cousins there to catch the Jacksons.
    It was supposed to be an in-store autograph signing, but the crowd grew too large. So when the security moved the Jacksons to the top of the building, the crowd went crazy when Michael and his brothers stepped to the edge of the roof. So, since they couldn't get close to the Jacksons on the inside of the store, the fans went inside the store to try and find the stairwell to get to the roof with the Jacksons.
    When security tried to keep the fans from reaching the stairwell that was located in the shoe dept, a few people decided to snatch shoes such as converse while running out of the store.
    You are fibbing when you say they emptied the store out.

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  5 месяцев назад

      They said that in the news story so whomever wrote the story was fibbing.. Look at the pictures if there was still people in the store when that picture was taken then there where a whole lot more people than the story said.. By the way you can't fib about something that you did not witness you can only be wrong.. Two completely different tihngs..

    Another enjoyable Video, Billy. Thanks for posting those great shots of Elvis. Glad you point out how bad he was at being racist. Presley loved and was influenced by the rhythm and blues Music recorded by Black Musicians. He gives them a lot of credit during one of his rare interviews speaking about early Rock and Roll. I also love that story about the Jackson's looting Woolco; that's too funny. I wonder how many people know that. Thanks again, Billy.

    Great video. I wonder if Elvis ever met Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin or Ray Charles. For me, they are possibly the only singers that can match Elvis. I never thought Elvis was racist. I believe he opened many doors and acknowledged the origins of his music and style. I didn't mention Little Richard because I believe they met. I heard Elvis liked Bill Kenny of the Ink Spots. They were my mother’s favourite band ☺️

    Side note. I grew up and now again live next too gary Indiana. Home of the Jacksons. I had just moved back here right before Michael passed away. I drove by their house, where they grew up. Lots and lots of people there. People still leave things there often. There is a theatere where the "Jackson 5" performed on Broadway, in Gary Indiana. For many years after the theatere closed, the marquee said the "Jackson 5".

    I know white Southerners - some in my family - who are good and moral people, in most respects, and certainly don't mind blacks excelling in music and certainly sports. But behind closed doors, when it comes to bigger things, that's not always the case. Not saying Elvis was this way, but he obviously chose not to speak out one way or the other, on segregation, for starters, then later civil rights. Or did he? I can't recall anything. Does not mean he was racist, but the status quo was likely okay to him. He grew up in that time period, too, so it's natural that there was a level of acceptance and lots of herd thinking. We all get caught up in that. Elvis used the "I'm an entertainer" line to push back against those who wanted him to express an opinion. In reality, though, Elvis was having a hard enough time keeping his own life together. If you can't manage your family and core group of people around you, and it ends up killing you due to the stress, it's hard to imagine you'd have the mental strength to be a figure like Nelson Mandela or Gandhi - and they had flaws. That was never going to be Elvis, though. And in fairness, some of our other artists don't really stand for much. Money rules. Fame is addictive. And lots who are entertainers are craving adoration. When you speak, well, you lose support and love from the masses.....certainly in the short-term. I love Elvis, but also just understand he was a complicated person, like us all.

      Bob Joyce is not Elvis. People should stop thinking that this stupid story is true. It's very disrespectful to Elvis and his family and his fans
