MK7 vs MK8 Ford Fiesta ST: Did I Make the Wrong Choice?

  • Did I buy the wrong Ford Fiesta ST? Should I have bought a MK8 Fiesta ST instead of my MK7? Today we will find out as me and Sammy compare my MK7 Fiesta ST and her MK8 Fiesta ST to see which one we prefer, and would we change our minds? Find out as we review the MK7 and MK8 Fiesta ST!
    We look at the Fiesta ST options of performance, styling, the in car technology, and we take the cars out for a drive both driving our own cars, and also each others cars to see what we think. We get a look at the Fiesta ST acceleration, the handling, launch control, and get a listen to the Fiesta ST exhaust sound as well, taking into consideration that my Fiesta ST MK7 has a stage 1 map on it, and Sammy's Fiesta MK8 ST has an aftermarket Milltek exhaust, and some other amazing additions which make it a great little car.
    This video will hopefully help anyone out with making a decision for which Fiesta they wish to buy, the benefits of both, and ultimately, in the end, we find out if I made the wrong decision in buying the MK7 ST.
    Enjoy the video folks!

    I've had multiple Mk6's from 150-200bhp, I've had a Mk7.5 at 215bhp and now a Mk8.5 at 235bph and I can honestly say they're all different experiences and are all very' very fun in their own rights - you can't really go wrong with any of them.
    From my experience and my personal preference, I think the Mk7.5 is the best drivers car, the 4 pot just drives nicer and it can be tuned to well over 300bhp on stock engine internals.

    the mk8 suffers from wheel hop, thats the banging you hear when using the launch control. one of the best mods is an uprated roll restrictor, mountune do one, stops the wheel hop. i have owned my mk8 st for 4 years bought it new. running stage 1 map 250bhp really transforms the car. milltek exhaust on mine, short shifter , mountune carbon air intake etc etc. kind of wish id got a performance edition as the coilovers are made by kw and are basically the variant 3 they sell and cost over £2k.

    • @dominichills
      @dominichills  Год назад +2

      Oh wow that's really good to know. I'll see if Sammy has read this. Do you get the nornal wheel spin like Sammy said she does, and if so does the roll restriction help with this? That's awesome, they're so tunable and I said to Sammy her mk8 would do well with a stage one as it's a 25% power increase. Which stage 1 do you have? Oh and yes, that milltek exhaust does sound good! 🙌

    • @karllelliott681
      @karllelliott681 Год назад +1

      @@dominichills Hi, I've currently got a molten orange MK7.5 and a MK8 Edition. Adding a MT roll restrictor to the MK8 does introduce more vibration through the chassis (there's always a price to pay) but is virtually unnoticeable in the MK7.5 also with a MT RR. Maybe this addition amplifies the 3-pots inherent unbalanced nature a bit more? The KW V3's are brilliant and allow the MK8 to ride so much better than the MK7.5 (which is on MT lowering springs and standard shocks). I actually prefer the raw feel of the MK7.5, though also love the better ride quality and interior of the MK8. Short shifters are brilliant upgrades for both cars as are the air filters and air/coolant hoses, brake discs, pads and braided brake hoses IMHO. I would summarise that there is not much to choose between either models as there are plusses and minuses to owning and using both.

    Sorry I am late to this one. Great video thanks to you both. I was looking at a mk8, but changed my mind and then within six months almost bought a s/h mk8 st for a friend as their daily and my second, they chose an st-line instead as they weren't interested in the performance of the st. I regret not ignoring their wishes but it was going to be their daily primarily and not my second. Can you sense my regret?
    Fun watching this, I think its the only Orange Fury mk8 Fiesta ST on yt, very nice a limited edition. I have found ford ownership goes something like this: Ford, then Fiesta or Focus, then ST or not and then Orange Fury or not. 🤣
    Yeh fun watching this. Orange got shrunk. Orange is my fully loaded 2020 mk4 Focus ST from new, with Maxton and Mountune M330. As I said would have loved ot have had the Fiesta as a second car, I do regret not investing in one. I found it too small and impractical for me, so I went for the Focus. Those who may not know is the fact the two are utterly different cars. They ride handle and drive similar but different. It is not a choice of the smaller less powerful fiesta or the larger quicker focus. That is crass. I love my Focus ST, but she is for open roads not for the lanes of the South Hams or Dartmoor where I live.

  • @liamrichards8916

    Mk 7 may not tune as high at stage 1, but you can push the mk7 up to over 300bhp, sometimes to 380ish bhp on stock internals whereas the mk8 needs to go forged internals if you get to 265-280ish and over. So better gains for just a tune, but you spend much more money if you want to squeeze out the higher end of the engines capabilities.
    The 1.6 4 pot is just a remarkably reliable engine. I know someone who maybe changed their oil 3 times in 8ish years, and absolutely punished the car. Was very sad to see, but it did city, highway and farm driving, cross country runs etc and lasted to 138000KM before a coolant tank exploded and the engine airlocked and needed a rebuild. A car that can go so long with essentially 0 maintenance and ran pretty damn well until the very end shows just how amazingly overbuilt and strong those 1.6's are.
    Legend says it the lad has learned his lesson now after forking out for a full new sub assembly, reconditioned top block and reconditioned turbo. Maintaining it quite well going since 🤣🤣

      @@dominichills cool, tbh I'm not a massive fan of pop and bang maps i prefer more natural pops i heard them maps can mess up your engine and they get annoying fun at 1st plus im a massive sucker for looking after my cars before i drive i always sit there for 2 mins lol and annoys my passengers. yes i still have my fun in the car but every time i see someone bouncing off their limiter or doing burnouts im like why in my head idk im not sure if that weird me being a car guy and not liking burnouts. though tbh i did that when i was young in my 1st car attempted a burnout just a quick one too see what it was like and i did it and the tyres wasn't even spinning lol prob as its a front wheel drive i didn't break it maybe whoever is owning it now might get a issue with it because of that idk.

    • @dominichills
      @dominichills  Год назад +1

      @jayfrosvlogs yeah I get that each to their own. You can put in a switch to remove them when you like etc if you fancy it. Mine has one but I might get a switch or get it removed but mine are mapped for 2 seconds of overrun so that won't be an issue for the turbo. It's usually anti-lag I believe that can cause more issues.

    The mk7 is far more tunable

    • @dominichills
      @dominichills  11 месяцев назад +1

      From what I've heard for stage 2 the Mk8 will make around 270-280bhp whereas the mk7 will make around 240bhp.
      Again, only from what I've read in forums so for stage 3 I've only read too much about it. Only thing I've seen now recently is people going for 350bhp on the mk7 with aftermarket turbos etc is causing a lot of them to blow up, or burst into flames.

    • @dominichills
      @dominichills  11 месяцев назад

      But yes after stage 2 from what I've read it changes that the 7 becomes a different animal. But I was focusing more on the stage 1 and 2 levels as that's where I'm currently at.

    • @criSOME1
      @criSOME1 10 месяцев назад

      It’s probably due to the upgraded intercooler that is in the mk8. A stage 3 for mk7 is an intercooler and new turbo correct me if wrong.

    • @dominichills
      @dominichills  10 месяцев назад

      @criSOME1 yeah, so I meant on stock from what I've read the 8 is better up to stage 2. If going Aftermarket turbos etc I'm not sure what comes out on top, but it seems the 7.5. But then again, as others have said, a lot don't take the 8 further than stage 2
      So who knows!
