  • My 1949 Ferguson TED20 and MF732 fingerbar mower tackling a 14 acre field on a sunny July day in Lincolnshire. Fergy now running smoothly on a 4:1 paraffin/petrol mix (50 octane). It was a bit erratic on straight unleaded previously. Mower has been treated to a NOS knife bar (stored in grease for 45 years) after the previous one broke due to an oversized rivet binding on the cutter guides. Now cuts beautifully. I'll get someone to hold the camera next time and show much better detail.

Mowed with that mower years ago on a Ford 4000.
Was well able to mow good hard grass.
The whole pitman shaft and Rod assembly was problematic. An awful lot of hectic motion in it. Wear n tear and stuff loosening up.

TVO? Is that a designation for a orchard/Vinyard model?

TVO stands for Tractor Vapourising Oil- otherwise known as Paraffin here in the UK. ( or Kerosene in some places) You would start the tractor on petrol, then switch over to TVO when it had reached operational temperature. This was due to petrol prices and rationing following WW 2, . Petrol / Paraffin Ferguson tractors were very common in this period, and came with twin tanks and switchover valves in the fuel system. Most were later converted to Perkins P3 Diesel engines once petrol rationing had ended in the 1950s. I have one of these, a 1949 Ferguson, still has the split tank!👌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Pouring oil on the cutter bar is fine but don't do it in the field. The oil gets on the hay and the cattle/ horses eat it. Not good for them.
