Oh God. This movie and specifically this scene is perfection. I am always reminded of these guards whenever I meet people who have no idea about what to do, people who seem to understand something one minute and then do the opposite a minute later. Brilliance. Pure 100% brilliance.
This is my favorite bit out of the entire movie. It's funny, memorable, quotable, and just realistic. It's as if there was no script at all and they just went with it. Like Michael Palin told Eric Idle just to be confused for as long as he can.
"...and make sure he doesn't leave.." "what?" "make sure he doesn't leave.." "the prince?" "yes!make sure he doesn't leave...".....lmao this a really great movie!!!one of my favs!!
Make sure the prince doesn't leave this room until I come and get him. Not to leave the room even if you come and get him. No no, until I come and get him. Until you come and get him we are not to enter the room. No no no, you stay in the room and make sure he doesn't leave And you come and get him. Right. We only need to do anything about from just stop him enter the room No no, leaving the room. Leaving the room - yes. All right? Oh, if if if he ... ähm, if ähm he, if we ... if ... oh ROFL
I love a little later when Sir Launcelot busts into the room and the guard starts trying to remember the instructions. "Now you're not allowed to enter the room and .. AGGHHH!!"
The way that Michael Palin says things is one of the funniest things in comedy but it's under-rated because he can often be extremely subtle in the way he does it: 'Where are you going?' He doesn't shout it, it's like genuine disappointment on his part that he thought he had come so close yet was so far.
I fully expected that it would only have taken them 1 take- unlike some 'ensembles' they all are genuinely all in the same approximate kind of comic talent, they are intellectuals and professionals and, what's more, they wrote it. They want to put down the best performance for posterity, not mess about. :)
LOL! I love this scene because the conversation between the king and the guards sounds just like me and my Mum. The other day we had a conversation similar to this when she wanted me to go find my grandmother in walmart...I understood one minute, and the next I got it wrong. We were both reminded of this clip and doubled over laughing.
"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and "Life of Brian" - two of the funniest movies ever made!!! "Where are you going?" "We're coming with you." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! So funny!!!
My truly favourite scene of the entire film, feel like I never get tired of watching it. I like 2:07 the most, he was SOOO close to leave through the door when suddenly realizing the guards still don't get it. Hearing Idle saying ''what?'' makes me really laugh. At that time I would have have given up on them and have them replaced LOL
It is TRACTS of land, not "tracks". Tracks are something animals leave with their feet, or people store on their I-Pods. TRACTS are what is being referred to here! "She's rich... she's beautiful... she has huge ... tracts of land!".

Only geniuses could make a simple scene like this so funny. In films everyone understands everything completely in one hearing. However complicated.

"What, the curtains?"
Ahahaha
"No, not the curtains, lad."

"...and no singing!!" My thought exactly in all of those Disney cartoons, damn those useless songs! *shakes fist*
I watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail full movie here twitter.com/b889c83d2db041b26/status/822769934686044161
About the same IQ as the guards in Skyrim. "What is it, dragons?"
....AND NO SINGING!!
HIC!
OH GO AND GET A GLASS OF WATER WILL YOU?
Monty Python = comedy gold
I'm sorry, I thought your son was a lady.
Oh, I can understand that!

The King’s patience with these two guards is nothing short of superhuman.
in spamalot (my school production) I am acting the prince's father and my brother is acting the gaurd. We argue all the time. It's going to be epic!
These guards must have Aspergers' Syndrome.
I work with people like this every day.
Me too.
Likewise.
This has to be the funniest, cleverest, most beautifully executed scene of the entire film! I can never watch it just once!
I wonder how many takes that scene took with the two guards
I love a little later when Sir Launcelot busts into the room and the guard starts trying to remember the instructions. "Now you're not allowed to enter the room and .. AGGHHH!!"

they're still better at following orders than your average npc
The other guard is also really struggling to keep it together. A scene straight from the Monty python life of Brian movie.
Take note, Family Guy! This is the proper way to do an overly-long gag!
😂It sounds like some of my discussions with employees
Social distancing rules be like... 1:01
But father
Shut yer noise, you. And get that suit on.
(music starts)
And NO SINGING!
(music stops)
XD
HiC!
perfection in timing and one of the best crafted scenes in any movie
"Listen Alice!"
"Herbert."
"Sorry, Herbert"

Tracts. Tracts!
My day
It is TRACTS of land, not "tracks". Tracks are something animals leave with their feet, or people store on their I-Pods. TRACTS are what is being referred to here! "She's rich... she's beautiful... she has huge ... tracts of land!".
ROFL
I love my ex comrades at arms, but back in the Army,I really beleive I served with these guys! topazcat1
0:09 ROFLCOPTER I love when that keeps happening! This movie is soo silly! But it's so damn good!
Benny Hill considered funnier than Monty Python by two TV stations (WOR and WLVI)----I agree!
...but father...
Shut your noise you and get that suit on!!!!
LOL
She's beautiful, she's rich, she's got huuuge... tracks of land!
The Guards-So funny-Woody Allen is up his arse-forget him-Creepy free? Including Groucho? Groucho couldn't think this oddity
One day, son, this will all be yours.

"what?"
hahaha
But i dont want laaand......... i just want to.....SIIING!
I just love the look in the kings eyes as the the scene continues on ... pure desperation.
Seems kinda darf to gaurd him when he's a gaurd, lmao
Why do people feel the need to "re-write" the movie's lines? We heard them the first time.
Saw this at a theater in Atlanta back in 1975. Still laughing out here in Phoenix to this date, 46 years later.
hahahahahaahahahahaha.. BEST GUARDS EVER!!
lol. yeah and when he thought to gaurd his partner
These guys are way funnier than Woody Allen-and way smarter
There are so many people of Bureaucracy they wont click
Just when you think the scene is over it launches into this!!
