In episode 36 we chat to the legend that is John Robb! Not only was he in 2 awesome bands, The Membranes and Goldblade but also he is one of the best music journalists and broadcasters of our generation! Credited with inventing the tag Britpop and also the first person to interview Nirvana this interview is one not to miss!
Welcome to The Stupid And Contagious podcast, a podcast focused on bringing you interviews with the bands that defined a generation!
That generation grew up in the 90s with the Grebo bands (Senseless Things, PWEI, Neds Atomic Dustbin, Mega City Four, The Wonderstuff and many more) on the UK side of the pond and quickly joined by the grunge bands (Nirvana, Mudhoney, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and many more) on the US side of the pond.
We are not limiting ourselves to these genres though, we will chart the guitar bands from all genres throughout the decade that was the 1990s.
If you are into 1990s guitar music or just a music lover in general then this is the podcast for you!

Great interview, thanks! I'm getting a bit obsessed with the podcast it's great and so nostalgic! I'm a little older than you lot I think, I started going to see MC4, Snuff, Senseless Things, Neds etc in late 1989/1990 when I was around 20 years old. I'm on the South Coast, so used to go to gigs in Portsmouth, Southampton, Brighton and London a lot...... I just bought tickets to see Midway Still, you should try and get them on.

That was great. Saw The Membranes about 10 years ago. Was surprised to see that 'talking head' guy from the telly on stage 😂😂
    They were bloody good, too!!

John Robb is the real deal.Did the gigs all the way through. Bands with image, clothes ,culture, etc. My first love was The Jam and forever moved on and still do.
90s was a great time.. Second Coming is a great album. Remember seeing Supergrass, Cast n China Drum ( Check out their version of Wuthering Heights ) on the same gig Hammersmith Palaise. Oasis there as well 94. Place has long gone. Tricky, Beth Orton, Portishead, Asian Dub Foundation . Diverse stuff . Now I’ve been listening to Sharp Class, Heartworms, Kid Kapichi, Bob Vylan, Scruffy Bear. Some great British music still out there.
And one more thing, I had that Vertigo a couple of years ago..Everything turned into a non stop T.O.T.Ps 70s visual affect..Lol.
    Great stuff guys, brilliant.

I always think of Mudhoney as fitting best into the lineage of 'punk' out of all the 'grunge' bands, I was a bit surprised that he said Nirvana. If the 'grunge explosion' didn't happen I would still think of Mudhoney as a punk band.

Love Mudhoney! I agree musically Nirvana were probably more accessible to the masses. I think they both had the same link ethos 🤘🏻

Can someone tell me what sort of accent John Robb has? it's so strong it must be a regional thing but I don't know where he is from.. Lancashire accent? I always wondered..
