  • The eleventh generation of the Ford Thunderbird is a personal luxury car that was produced by Ford for the 2001 to 2005 model years. It was based on the Ford DEW platform. Although it was initially well received by the automotive press, garnering accolades such as the Motor Trend Car of the Year and a nomination for the North American Car of the Year in its first year of existence, many publications regarded the Thunderbird's revival rather more frostily after a few years; it garnered a place on Car and Driver magazine's 2009 list of "The 10 Most Embarrassing Award Winners in Automotive History"

@@doriwebb2515 yeah! People just don't understand how old this car is to actually remove a hardtop by itself. It is just a good daily driver.

Yeah, it would have been smoother if they had actually read the instructions that came with the car FIRST.

You would have thought this car would have been produced with the option of a retractable hardtop much like a Mercedes SL .

There was a concept with that. But you know, costs. And they were going to put a supercharger on it too. Guess what happened.

WTF? Where's your hardtop stand? Setting it on the ground then taking it through the bushes? LOL!

As if no other car had a manually removable hard top. Most certainly not the reason Ford stopped production after selling 68,000 of them.

Crap video. By the way, the best way to deal with tops like that is put an electric winch above it in the garage, attached to a beam or rafter, and use a top-lifting kit. Foam covered steel bar that you put through the window openings, the winch cable splits to a Y and hooks to each end of the bar, and a strap that's on the cable with a hook on the end goes to the lower rear edge of the top to stabilize it. Winch has a controller on a long cord. Easy peasy one person operation. Top stays suspended above the car. Or, drive the car out, lower the top, and sit it on the factory cart it came with for vertical storage in the garage.

Geez. Awful video. It’s not that hard. Pull the levers first. And show people close up how to release the lever. I do mine all the time.

I thought the '02 T-Bird was pretty cool when I first saw it in a photograph but it didn't take long for me to become disinterested when I saw one in person. It's an ugly car.
