  • Offered for sale is this immaculate and increasingly collectible 11th generation Thunderbird from Ford, a 2003 Deluxe with only 42K miles. This very clean vehicle has the optional heated seats, black leather, chrome wheels, and is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition. The 3.9 liter 280HP V8 runs well and provides ample power, and the 5-speed automatic gearbox shifts smooth and properly. Fresh Michelins. Amenities include power windows, power central locking, leather seats, brushed aluminum trim, AM/FM/CD Changer, and more. Includes all books, keys, top cover, and more. Do not miss this one!

I own the 2003 in black as shown. Runs beautifully. The style of this car turns heads in 2020 as it did in 2003.

Yeah that's cool. I like the hardtop more, with the porthole. I wish they had put about 50 more hp and a six speed manual, which I believe would've made this car more desirable and successful.

In January I purchased an '04 with 48,000 miles on it. Same black as this one only with the sand interior and soft top. Mine came with the hardtop and stand too. I just love this car. I never realized how many options these cars came with. Pure class fun!!

'57 T-Bird in 2003 skin. Where's my back-up camera? Great classic retro car that I'm still in the market for.

I had a Jaguar XJL. After it was totaled, I couldn't afford another Jaguar. I'm actually scouting these Thunderbirds. Thanks for the review, I was very intrigued because these cars are rated very high for quality and maintenance. And like what you said, one of the better modern 'hot-rod' type cars.

I own a 2002, ,"triple black" with both tops ( hardtop & soft top). It was a car I. had wanted ever since I rode in the '56 Thunderbird my aunt and uncle owned when I was a boy. Its a great car. I don't drive mine too often, just in fair weather. Currently, it has 20,000 miles. No, it's not a racer, it's a cruiser. Hope you get to buy one!

Alden “Gib’’ Giberson, a young stylist for Ford offered the winning name, Thunderbird. A southwest native, Giberson said he took the name from the Thunderbird of Native American mythology.
The car made its first public appearance on February 20, 1954 at Detroit’s first auto show following World War II. The first 1955 model Thunderbird rolled off the Ford Motor Company’s assembly line in Dearborn on September 9, 1954. It officially went on sale the following month

I have a gray '03 for seven years now and boy, do I still love it! :) Living in Europe you don't see these cars very often over here. It's not a sports car, but it has a good punch, especially when you stomp on the pedal on the Autobahn. You can literally read the minds of all the Miata and SLK drivers, turning their heads and reading their lips saying: "wtf". :D Classy car!

“The T-Bird: Nature’s perfect car. Then some idiot goes and puts a back seat in it.”
    -A. Fonzarelli, “Happy Days”
I loved these twenty years ago and now. The connection to Jaguar scared me away from buying one as a weekend cruiser (opted for a C4 Corvette instead), but anyone rolling in one of these things has taste for days and my respect.

No, no back seat. However, take a look at a Fusion that came out right after the end of this Thunderbird. There is your 4 door Thunderbird (Fusion). At least I think so. The dash, the seats, the roof all remind me of the 11th generation Thunderbird.

Ford missed a real opportunity here. First, put in a courageous powertrain, second, add more design cues from the ‘55-6-7. Add a little more chrome or stainless like the original. Finally, keep upgrading it by removing flaws, adding options that don’t betray the fifties cars and design. Heck, I would even go so far as making body panels and trim that were interchangeable with the original. They could have even made each of the tri-five models in succeeding years. If they had done this, they would still be selling this car and competing with the rest of the crowd.

I always felt the styling was a cartoonish version of the original. In 1955 it had a crispness and was sharp from front to back. The 2002-2005 just misses the mark and will never be a classic. Ford lost their way back in 1967 and never got back on track.
