This bottle goes for $100 by me. I am glad I was able to get one on a promo a year or so ago for $45 because that's closer to what I think the value is. I thought it was nice to try but I felt that despite all the talk of fast maturation in the Indian heat, it still tasted like a young (too young for me) single malt. It was fun to try, and a little funky, but I wouldn't buy it again. Especially for a Ben Franklin!

I picked up a bottle of this a couple months ago based on you urging to try an Indian whiskey. I haven't opened it yet but am looking forward to it.
I wish I only paid $80; the shop I go to most often tends to be more pricey but has good selection.

Thanks for the content! I just bought my first Paul John with the Nirvana. About 30 tacos cost. It’s different enough from Scotch and there’s a surprising uniqueness to the whiskey that I enjoy. Maybe we’ll see more Indian whiskey in my area. Nirvana is the first I’ve seen!

Opened a bottle today , my first time having any paul john. I liked the smokiness, it has a distinct note of bacon and ham, other tropical notes too but a distinctive bacony note in a good way. It is funny that i found your thumbnail with a bacon on it and i was like someone else smells the bacon in this. I would like to have this whisky with a nice red meat preparation like steak or a spicy meat.
Overall i like it, i found it peaty but not like a typical islay, also it is 55% but i found it to be easier and more mellow than other 50%+, dont think it needs water to open up.

Great review and much more polished for 2022. I'll keep an eye out for this one, thanks!

Got this on sale for $57. Really good stuff. I too was surprised how light the peat was but the tropical flavors were fantastic

The problem for me with Indian whiskey is that for the price there always just seems to be a better value out there. I have tried the Amrut cask strength Peated and it was like cinnamon hot spice with a touch of peat smoke. One Total Wine gave up on these. They were blowing out the 2017 Batch 1 for $56. Only then we’re these moving. I’ll give it a go soon. Also I enjoy the honesty and thoroughness of this review.

I love this bottle. Righteous peat monster!
At 55% it's a bit hot and I like to get more barley sweetness so I usually add a bit of 46% Brilliance. (That's 54% water, right?)

Glad your first tasting of the year is an international whiskey. Will try to get my hands on the classic select cask. Another great video, keep it up!

Me too. So few people cover things outside of scotch and bourbon!

With the ABV, lack of an age statement, mashbill, price, and your flavor notes, it sounds to me like a tropical version of Ardbeg Uigeadail, which I very, very much do enjoy. If I ever see this in person, I'll definitely consider picking it up.

Recently had the bowmore 15 I don't know it has a very distinct flavor I can't place that I just don't like but the peat on it is excellent

Following up: Amrut peated cask strength now in green packaging (Dec 2019 and later) as opposed to the yellow (earlier, date unknown). The peat character is maintained. The punch of star anise is less in this batch though still present, with more cinnamon. It is less viscous/oily feeling in the mouth than the old yellow tin batch and the color is lighter (deep caramel as opposed to the near mahogany of the older version). So this new batch (green package) is very good but not as outstanding as the older one. I will enjoy these new bottles, but they are not the revelation that the older ones were.

I have tried this and it was quite nice. Although keep in mind that I don't like heavily peated whisky 😉 The citrus notes (for me orange or maybe tangerine) where intense and the peat was not dominant.
I don't like Paul John Edited. It was unpleasant. Bold was better, but from The peated versions of Paul John this one or The Christmas edition 2021.
From the unpeated Paul John Oloroso was intriguing, but my favorite is The classic select cask 😀
Oh, and by the way, I have watched some of your movies and I like it so I'm now suscribe your canal 😀

I was excited to find out my local store has Paul John. They only have the Edited and Brilliance though. I was thinking if I had to choose between these two for my first foray into Indian whisky, the Brilliance sounded better but I'm unsure.

I just finished a bottle of Brilliance. Enjoyed it from start to finish. It's tasty stuff, and starting with a basic unpeated bottling like that is a nice way to get a good look at a distillery's core character before subduing it beneath a ton of peat, sherry, or wine.

      Definitely the Brilliance
