Two great legends singing together. What could be better than that. This is timeless music that has endured for decades. Ella is such a jazz legend & performed for over 6 decades. She was known for her purity of tone & scat singing. Love her version of "Summertime". She had a great solo career but also did quite a few collaborations with Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington & The Ink Spots. Some of their hits were "Cheek to Cheek", "Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall", & "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)".
Both Ella and Louis were geniuses of their fortes. Ella was probably the best jazz singer of the 20th century (with the possible exception of Billie Holiday), and Louis was the best jazz trumpeter ever (go back and listen to that trumpet at the beginning of the song), but he could carry a tune vocally, too. The two of them recorded a number of duets. For Ella, you might want to listen to "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered," "Cry Me a River," "A Tisket, a Tasket," "Every Time We Say Goodbye," "They Can't Take That Away from Me" (in duet with Louis Armstrong), "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," "The Lady Is a Tramp," and "It Don't Mean a Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing." For Louis, consider listening to his version of "It's a Wonderful World," "Hello Dolly," "West End Blues" (Instrumental, "Basin Street Blues" (instrumental).
I highly recommend The Mills Brothers. They began in the 30s as 3 brothers, then later returned as father & sons. "Opus One" is my favorite, but they have a huge catalog.
Check out "Night and Day", and Mack the Knife, also The Lady is a Tramp, with Ella and Frank Sinatra. I think I have 4 CD's with Ella, one Ella live in Berlin, and several Ella sings Cole Porter.
I visited New Orleans about 3 years ago, and I was delighted that the newly built (or refurbished?) airport was the Louis Armstrong airport. ❤️ Ella and Louis collaborated on at least 2 albums. Solid gold. 🎶😍
Her voice is smooth as butter and soothing as a warm hug. Then Louis comes in with his deep tones to wrap me up in a warm blanket. They are a fabulous couple! ❤❤
Ella and Louis did three albums together and all of them were spectacular. If you like scatting, Ella's recordings of "How High the Moon" (Berlin 1960) and "Don't Mean a Thing" with Duke Ellington (Cote D'azur 1967) are great places to see how she was an incomparable practitioner of the art.
Yep, they sat in the studio together and sang together and this is how it came out. Nobody can do that today. There’s talent out there, but it seems nobody knows how to develop and enrich it to produce the kind of music we had yesterday.
Ella & Louis recorded a couple of albums of duets that are just wonderful. You should treat yourself to those recordings sometime. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
You’re listening to two of the finest artists to have ever graced a stage. Try their best duet, “Summertime.” This is why older fans of music find the music of the last 20 yrs such a disappointment.
Ella + Louis = pure gold!!

this gem was first recorded by Ozzie Nelson (1931) and orchestra and has been recorded many many times since, (mama) Cass Elliot did a superb version

I think I died and went to heaven ❤❤❤❤ that was Absolutely Beautiful. Yes, bring back scatting.
Timeless was a perfect way to describe this. Thank you.

Great reaction. So much great music from this era.
You absolutely got it right. This song (recorded 1950) is still fire 74 years on. Robert, uk.
"Thank you for sharing your voice with us. We will not forget you."
Seems to me you found the perfect words for this one...
jazz and jazz based music is the base of the 20th century from which all was built, nice choice man

Yes both pure gold!!
And there's quite a bit of Louis/ Ella content to enjoy thank goodness💜
I love seeing the newer generations discovering where the roots of music came from. They call it classic for a reason! ❤
I totally enjoyed watching you react to this wonderful rendition by these two GREATS.

Cool reaction to two of the absolute best American Musicians of any era. Timeless indeed.
Their vocal improvisations are unparalleled,
Ella and Louis ❤❤❤❤
This is a masterpiece.
Wonderful reaction
What a pair ❤

The reason artists sounded distinctive is because there was very little vocal processing. No auto tune, real reverb, no gimmick effects.
Don’t forget Louis Armstrong’s trumpet in this!
That was Louis on the trumpet, too
you need to watch The Mills Brothers basin street blues live
Try listening to Gone Fishing - Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby
