- Police have made arrests at universities across the country amid the rising number of protests that have broken out over Israel's actions in Gaza. At Emory University in Atlanta, police used tear gas on protesters. The University of Southern California announced it's canceling its main commencement ceremony over what it calls safety concerns. CBS News Texas reporter Jason Allen and CBS News correspondent Lilia Luciano have the latest.

You inspired us here in France. 1 day ago, a pro-Palestinian encampment by approximatively 70 students (the number is growing) started at SCIENCE PO and SORBONE which are the 2 most prestigious universities in France located in Paris. The police of course just like The US forcefully tried to remove the students but they are still there. It's day 2 today and the protests are still going strong. I haven't seen it reported on US media but it's all over our media.
The youth all over the world is on the good side, we stand together against this genocide currently happening that is supported by all our sellout leaders. Let's keep going!!!!

Palestinians invited to speak to Western news channels are frequently asked if they “condemn Hamas”, while Israeli guests are seldom asked to condemn their government’s apartheid policies in the occupied West Bank or its siege and bombardment of Gaza.
In every [Western news] report, they keep mentioning that Hamas is [designated] a terrorist group. But what about mentioning what Israel is doing? It’s violating international law, it’s committing genocide. It has imposed an apartheid system [in the West Bank]. It has imposed a 16-year blockade on Gaza.
Unsubstantiated claims made by Israeli parties have made their way to the front pages of Western news agencies. A recent example was the oft-reported claim that Hamas “beheaded 40 babies”. Despite the lack of evidence, the allegations were reported by The Independent, CNN, Fox News, and the New York Post.
Even United States President Joe Biden implied he had seen pictures of dismembered babies on October 12. The White House later walked back his comments, saying Biden had seen no such images, and that he had seen news reports.
That claim - and other unsubstantiated allegations like Hamas fighters raping hundreds of Israeli women - was an attempt to manufacture public support for Israel’s military response in Gaza.
While an Amnesty International report concluded that children were killed in Hamas’s attack, neither Israeli authorities, Western journalists nor rights groups found any evidence of “beheaded babies”.
When [Western outlets] focus on these claims of 40 beheaded babies and women being gang-raped, then what they are effectively doing is justifying the brutality of Israel’s counterattack.
How else do you sell the idea of self-defense when, Israel is bombing what is basically a concentration camp? Over 40,000 dead, over 780,000 wounded, over 15,000 imprisoned and some are under the age of 10.
While some journalists at Western outlets may want to do more thorough reporting, many fear losing their livelihoods and careers if they speak out against their network’s pro-Israel bias.
A non-Jewish Arab has been instructed by their news outlet not to attend any demonstrations or post anything on social media that suggests empathy with Palestinians.
Some Jewish journalists hate that they cannot tell readers/viewers about the real human cost of Israel’s bombing of Gaza.

Egypt used to control Gaza. Some would say that they were not unhappy that Israel took control after the Six Day War in 1967. Egypt never let the Palestinians become Egyptians, they built a wall that Trump would envy to keep the Palestinians in Gaza, and they actively hunt down any Palestinian militants who sneak into Egypt. This is why not a single rocket is launched by Hamas into Israel from Egypt although they would love to do so. Even during this war between Hamas and Israel, Egypt refuses to let Palestinian refugees into Egypt. The truth is that surrounding Arab countries may give lip service of supporting Palestinians, but they don't think very much of them in reality. One of the reasons for this is that the Palestinians themselves are not really united. There are four main tribes of Palestine, and they are killing each other on and off. The only reason they aren't killing each other more constantly is because of their common hatred of Israel. They have never really been able to unify because each tribe doesn't want the others to have significant power in a Palestine state. So when you say you support Palestine, you really have to choose one of the four main tribes, and the tribe of Hamas is recognized as a terrorist organization by most of the world.

And to answer your first question, the reason they're protesting is obvious. Israel wouldn't be able to do what it does without the US money and weapons. The students are, as are most people with a heart, sick to their stomachs seeing innocent Palestinians being slaughtered. Their only recourse is to protest. Glad I cleared that up for you.
