The "Face" of a korok is probably just a mask they use to resemble a face (like the korok mask armor piece) , since they don´t have a mouth or eyes, something obvious if you look a hestu, they always have their nose piercing the leaf to hold the mask, and in some cases, the nose is way above the "eyes" of the mask, specifically the Korok face that resembles more the frond. So, in conclusion, The face of koroks is probably just a Korosk front with a face painted, and eating them doesn't hurt the korok in any way other than maybe emotionally.
Considering that (correct me if I’m wrong) Hestu I believe mentions that Koroks are “children of the forest” and that you can get Korok fronds from cutting down trees it may be that they are quite literally children of the forest and come from trees and perhaps grow around the fronds themselves, though this may be me miss remembering some dialogue
@@antlionworkerfan2007i find it more likely they just fashion masks from the fronds if you were a child of the forest wouldn't you just use the natural resources of the forest around you

I was sprinkling salt on that Korok when he was waking up. He looked at me in horror. I quickly put the salt away and just said I was keeping the slugs off of him. He still doesn't trust me.
The first thing that came to mind for me about the fronds looking like they're hiding something is that it might be a very sneaky joke about fig leaves in art, covering an otherwise nude person's most sensitive bits. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the intent behind the English flavor text - there were a few things that could plausibly be interpreted as 'jokes for adults that fly over younger players' heads' in BotW, and TotK probably has some of this too.
Ah, you're missing the point. Whilst it is still morally wrong to eat a Korok, because no-one can see them (and therefore they cannot see you eating them) you'd still be able to eat them without facing any major consequences. WHilst it is still morally wrong, it is still possible!
This is the most entertaining thing I've seen all day. Btw, reminds of me of the "Gorons eating rocks" thing. In Ocarina of Time, the Gorons are found to be starving because the rocks they love to eat come from Dodongo's Cavern, which is blocked off by a huge boulder. One may ask why they don't just eat the boulder? I think it's because the boulder... tastes like Koroks. In a manner of speaking. Lemme 'splain. As we have many different plants with varying levels of taste and edibility, I'm sure Gorons have varying levels of edible rocks. For example, we know from BotW and TotK they don't like the taste of gemstones, which is why they make a business of selling them. Some rocks just taste better than others. Let's say they have some rocks that are as edible to us as, say, lettuce. Who doesn't love lettuce? (Yes, you do.) Gorons would love those kinds of rocks. But say there were other rocks that were as edible to them as an... aspen leaf would be to us. Is it technically edible? Well, like the aforementioned Korok face, an aspen leaf is TECHNICALLY edible by a strict scientific definition, but that doesn't mean any of us like to eat them or would choose to. So if you've got an "aspen leaf-tasting" boulder blocking your way and you're a Goron with good taste who's used to "lettuce-tasting" rocks, you wouldn't be able to bring yourself to chow down on it. Whether it's a boulder, a gemstone, a frond, or a forest spirit's face... it's all a matter of what CAN be eaten, what SHOULD be eaten, and what one is WILLING to eat.
The Thing is that Koroks are actually spirits that can only be seen by only a few People. Meaning it is more likely that Eating them would be more like eating a Poe Soul in Ocarina of Time that you caught in a Bottle.
I like imagine that the hearts of food is measured by how good they taste, so korok fronds probably taste pretty bad (Like those edible leaves in real life)
I do think that the Koroks are indeed tree people. Because if you look at the character profiles, it lists the Great Deku Tree as a Korok. Also as you said Hestu has branches growing on his head, so maybe all Koroks will eventually become trees when they get very old.
I thought this comment was going to be like "and that's why you shouldn't eat them" but nope o.o ok then. That is true though, they're probably more then just tree bark
The phrasing is very well chosen in, "looks like it might be hiding something behind it"; meaning it hides the face, or more appropriately the "non-face", of a Korok. So the leaf isn't really part of their body, but a decoration from the Deku Tree that they wear. I think Koroks are basically little saplings of the Great Deku Tree, and I believe they can actually take root when old enough but not sure if that's ever explored in the games aside from the Deku sapling in Ocarina that resembles them.
I haven’t prepared a lot of root vegetables for cooking in a long time, so I can’t remember the details, but there are ways to prepare tougher, starchier roots for eating, I think. You just have to make sure to break down the fibers anough that the human body can process them.
Bread, Congrats on 70+ members, anyway, its too late, I roasted a Korok over a fire, He Kept screaming, "VEGITARIANS EVERYWHERE!!!!" I sadly dont speak korok, I google translated it after the meal.
I think technically even the body of the Korok would be edible. MatPat proved over on Food Theory back in December that you could eat your Christmas tree, so... Korok would be edible. Maybe not the most nutritious or delicious, but edible nonetheless.
By the very premise this is already excellent, I myself was quite curious of this idea. I have yet to actually watch; but I believe their flesh would be similar to root vegetables like potatoes or radishes.
I have been watching some of your older videos and it’s cool to see how much you’re channel has grown! Along with that, yes you have made it even more obvious that koroks are edible
Mushrooms and Fruits don't actually necessarily indicate that Koroks eat other plants. Fungi are not plants at all, but another kingdom seperate from animals and plants altogether, that do in fact account for a lot of the organic material consumed by trees in particular, and fruits botanically are never the entire plant they're attached to, but a part that is produced as part of the reproductive process, making them essentially equivalent to taking eggs from chickens - rather than being equivalent to eating the chicken itself. I don't know if the Koroks would be so receptive of the idea of eating a plant's roots or stem, the way Link does with greens such as stambulbs, hylian herbs, sundelions and so forth. They seem pretty down with rice, which is that sort of thing as well, so it's probably fine, but it is a distinction worth considering imo
Not to mention that that koroks are likely descended from the kokiri, the former spirits of the forest. its speculated that kokiri evolved into koroks after being trapped in the forest for so long. considering the fact that kokiri originated from hylians, its safe to say that koroks are likely not edible. if link were to eat a korok, i guess you could view it as cannibalism in a way

Zelda races in order of least edible to most edible: Gorons - Golem-like beings with a hard mineral based body, too crunchy, no nutritional value. Koroks - Bitter flavored face, mostly wooden body as this video describes. Hylians - Same race as you, just add fava beans and a nice chianti. Sheikah - The like-likes I encountered have swallowed a lot of Sheikah shields. They probably taste good. Gerudo - They seem like they're in good shape, high quality meat for sure. You'll be banned from entering town again, though. Zonai - Well, some people like goat meat. Be sure to cook them in Zonai pots while Rauru's ghost looks at you in horror. Rito - Nothing like giant fried chicken to keep you warm in the Hebra region! Zora - Probably tastier than regular fish, I give it 5 Sidon thumbs up!

Never failing to interest me in a video lol. While every is making crazy machines. You are eating Koroks. Godspeed pirate of breads. Godspeed
Finaly your back, my fav part of one of your vids was the one where link holds a sub and says sub
Yahaha (Thank you for stopping Link from eating those koroks the second one is actually a really good friend of mine, but I’m surprised he’s still doing that hiding stuff normally the festival is only for children.)
"Only link can eat rock hard food".
Gorons:Hello there.
Maybe link is a korok cuz like he can see koroks and he’s green so links officially a cannibalism guy
i have always just assumed that they use inanimate korok fronds as masks and that's what pepp was talking about, but the rest of this analysis is so funny lol
Another theory: What do koroks look like without the leaves on their faces???
Zelda races in order of least edible to most edible:
Gorons - Golem-like beings with a hard mineral based body, too crunchy, no nutritional value.
Zora - Probably tastier than regular fish, I give it 5 Sidon thumbs up!
other champions: basically link using a stick and punching bags
tulin: head shots, stunned enemies, high damage
Ahhh, the question that has perplexed millions around the world
Awesome hilarious video 😂
Something tells me Pep heard about
koroks getting tortured and now has nightmares
It is canon that Koroks are afraid of vegetarians. They must have heard about it from somewhere.
But...I love spinach! That's not a deterrent for me lol. Great video!
