When I saw the “BAD” over the duck in the thumbnail I came in here ready to throw down, but now I understand what it feels like to be rated 2.5/5 and let me tell ya, it doesn’t feel great. So I’m here to officially offer a truce for the great Bread-Duck war of 2023. Bread + Duck = 5/5 stars!!
I do agree My neighbors had chickens and they had all different types they were so cute they had these silky chickens The smaller ones are so cute they're almost like a chicken chinchilla that is how fluffy they are
Yeah man… getting harassed by countless cuccos that come out of nowhere. Wherever it walks, it brings destruction in its path. Whatever it touches 3 times, shreds into nothing but power… it would be nice!
In defense of the Hotfeather pigeon, not only are it's feathers fireproof, but if you get a look at the underside of it's wings when it takes off, it reveals a brilliant yellow that might change your opinion of their design. It looks pretty snazzy combined with their red/orange coloring.
The Forest Ostrich doesn't really have a real-world flightless equivalent - but it doesn't have a flighted one. They are clearly intended to be a flightless subspecies of Shoebill. Since Loftwings are also based on Shoebills, I believe that the Forest Ostriches we see in Hyrule today are descended from the Loftwings from the era of Skyward Sword.
Huh, they DO have that little spike at the top of the beak like a shoebill, and there is the thematic connection to the sky, but... to met hey look like diatrymas or phorusrhacids. I think that spike could just as easily be an eagle-type bill hook, which gastornis do have...
I'm a massive birder and Nintendo fan. Most of my free time I spend outside looking at birds, and any time that isn't that is playing Nintendo games. I thought I was the only one who cared about the level of detail for the avifauna in BOTW/TOTK, glad to see someone else does. I'm not done yet, but already one of my favorite RUclips videos.
Same here. My fave is the Bright-Chested Duck (I have a photo of it in my Tarrey Town house) which is most probably based on teals, a fave duck of mine
Well, I certainly wasn’t expecting Raiden and Senator Armstrong to briefly show up in a video about Hyrule’s feathered wildlife (and Rito), but here we are. This was a very cool video.
As a bird nerd, thanks for the vid Also, as an Aussie, gotta point out a few things you said about the rainbow pigeon: it may draw inspiration from colourful fruit-doves (like the Wompoo fruit-dove) and bronzewing pigeons rather than any parrot species. Look up Wompoo fruit-dove, you won’t regret it.
10:00 we in the land of Roos, platypuses and Saxon hale sure do love the kookaburra. Unless you live in Perth. They’re an introduced species over there because some colonist wanted the funny sound they make, but they didn’t live there natively. Meanwhile on the other side of the continent, Sydneysiders love the birds, until they wake you up at three am.
Excellent tier list 10/10! I did have one suggestion tho: i assumed the Forest Ostriches (aka the ancient flightless birds on the sky islands) were more based on ancient real-world flightless birds that are now extinct, namely the Moa
I think a tier list format closer to what Schafrillas does would be a lot more entertaining- Starting off with the bird you just *DESPISE* the most for some reason, and ending it off on a high note :) Also, more tier list video would be SO MUCH appreciated. Might I request a rock tier list? (Moveable, blow-uppable, falling....able... that kinda thing)
@@TheBreadPirate It makes for some real engaging storytelling because you can compare each one to the other more easily- like explaining why one was ranked *just* above another Also if you plan on using it in a future video (which I think you should- these tier lists are great), could I get a wee shoutout? Something just like- Thanks to a suggestion from Octolink, this tier list will be formatted like X. Keep up the great work!
Will point out that the White Pigeon appears closely based on the Rock Ptarmigan given location. Excellent bird matches overall though! Really enjoyed the video
I would say the ToTK wood pigeon is based more on the Common Wood Pigeon than the Rock Dove- the Common Wood Pigeon is essentially a regular Rock Dove/pigeon but with more pastel like colours Also maybe the rainbow pigeon is closer to the Nicobar Pigeon (although the colour patches don't really match, they are both rainbow coloured pigeons?)
Big agree about the wood pigeon! Crested pigeons would also be a good comparison. Personally I think the rainbow one is more like a wompoo fruit dove :), and cinnamon headed green doves might’ve been more accurate for the hotfeather pigeons

Oh my goodness, my grandparents had the exact same clock! I've never seen it anywhere around. I thought it was so neat. I think I still have it somewhere in my home but I have to dig and find it!
Also if you want to be fancy you can actually get specially made duck food. You can get it in big bags and it floats on water instead of sinking like many seeds do. It is the most efficient way to feed ducks.
Penn is supposed to be one of the white pelican species, either Great White Pelican or American White Pelican. Pretty sure Revali is supposed to be a florican (also, he totally does have a character arc).

My favorite is the Cucco, I like how it looks, and Because it doesn't fly it has the most personalty. It's also a great source of eggs which( In my opinion) are more useful in the late game then bird meat, as they give multipliers to all dishes. But my favorite part has to be the bird attack thing when you hit one 3 times, when I first discovered that I thought it was so funny 🤣
As a birdwatchermyself and someone who has watched this channel for a while I am quite unsure on why RUclips didn't recommend me this one earlier, I guess I was trying to avoid spoilers for the game. Anyway I really want to say that this video is just fun, with the added images of the real birds I was quite impressed with the accuracy, the only area I would say could have been improved on is the actual species of the bird instead of a similar looking bird (The Cloud Seagull is more similar to an Albatross with its beak and tail shape than a seagull). However that would probably require a lot more effort and it isn't really the point of the video. Great video nonetheless!
Sexual dimorphism in pigeons, while present, is not as extreme as in many other families, so I would guess the Rainbow Pigeon is indeed its own species. Also pretty sure the real-world equivalent of the Wood Pigeon is, you know, the Wood-Pigeon. :p
This was surprisingly entertaining to watch, and I'm a little sad it's so short. It would've been nice if more trivia and other remarks were sprinkled in, but considering the subject matter, it's also understandable why there isn't.
Mountain crow- common raven it has a more shaggy appearance than crows and makes sounds more similar to the ones in game. Cloud seagull- red billed tropicbird the forked tail is something the red billed tropicbird is known for, and they are most often seen in the skies above oceans and islands

I also think that the compendium entry mentioning that they’re extinct kind of proves that there was some phorusrhacid inspiration with their designs. This does mean that it makes no sense to call them ostriches as I don’t think phorusrhacids are actually that closely related to ostriches. Additionally, if their extinction was due to loss of open fields I don’t see how they can survive on the sky islands, but I do still love their shaggy kelenken-ish design.
My favorite is when the hawk in the opening of botw crashes into the cliff, totally ruining the majestic aesthetic, by being totally dumb. It's hilarious
