Dear Tara! I just want to thank you. Today on my cuban salsa class my teacher decided he would show us a little from the rumba. As I have watched this video (again) before the class, I remembered what you said about holding a basket, and my teacher looked at me and said: "THAT is very good!". So thanks a lot, I have learned so much from you since I subscribed a year ago. :)

very nice to have these groovy Cuban moves on a plate, thank you. The only thing is, they might look simple, but when I watch the Cuban divas do them on youtube, they are sky-high above what I can do - there are differences in timing, body movement, grace... musicality and meaning. It is not SO simple.

Just wanted to extend my thanks for what you do and your art that you share with the world. I have been working through several of your videos for the past six months (particularly this one and the guapea variations) and feel that this has elevated my dancing to the next level. These fun quick moves have bridged the area where I struggled the most which is that small window of time between when you disconnect from your partner and are trying to figure out which shine to implement. Sincere thanks for that. 😊

Hi this tutorial looks better than any others I've seen - are you open to doing one on the lead timing or can you point me in the direction of an equally easy to follow and equally comprehensive tutorial by a lead? Thanks

Hi Tara, can I use any of these shines in crossbody salsa or would is seem weird? I love your moves, but don't often dance Cuban. I'd love to see a video on crossbody/LA shines! Thanks!

    Hello 🙂
    Thanks for the video!
I wanted to ask you about the music you used for the presentation. Is there any reason why you did not go for the current cuban music (timba) when teaching cuban moves?
So that move is somehow more connected with the music?
Please don't get me wrong, but i would not dance cuban salsa to the music you played. This sounds more like when dancing line (LA or Mambo) salsa.
    Thanks for answering!
    Greetings from Barcelona!

Hi! Thanks for your comment! I can’t use copyrighted music on my channel, I use a site that has generic salsa music and there aren’t many options 🤷‍♀️

Dear Tara! I hope you will see this. I need your advice. For 1,5 years my cuban salsa teacher told us as followers we shouldn't wait for leaders to pull us all the way through the movements, just understand the small signs of leading and travel on our own until another sign comes and keep tension in our body so our bodies will turn after our arms. It was working perfectly I think. Now however we had a substitute teacher from another town as our teacher went on a vacation. He basically told us that we shouldn't move until the leader basically pushes or pulls us out from our position (on the guapea for example). Not signaling, but REALLY pulling. He kept saying my tension was not enough cause I moved after a slight pull. (The intensity he required was such as if I had fallen on my butt and someone would REALLY help me get up and pulled me up if you know what I mean.) Is this really the way it was supposed to be? I wish it isn't cause I enjoy dancing much more the way MY teacher is teaching it. As you have danced with cuban dancers, I would like to know, what is your opinion? Thanks in advance.

    • @DanceDoctor
      @DanceDoctor  Год назад +1

Hi maria! No, I don’t like leaders that push and pull, my views are much more aligned with your teacher’s. Everyone has their way, I always say dance partners are like clothes, we don’t all like the same thing! Thanks for asking!

Except for casino, classic Cuban timing is On2, not On1. And even many very good Cuban dancers (Maykel Fonts, for example) will dance casino On2.
Son, son montuno, mambo, cha cha cha, guaracha, guajira, pachanga, for example are danced, Cuban style, On2.
The Cubans call their On2 timing "Contratiempo".

Thankyou for this fab salsa class. Just one thing, there are way too many adverts, constantly having to stop mid move to skip. Very frustrating.
