You are a legend and will get better. My buddy was a competitive lifter and tore his bicep and got back in the game at 50 years old. Keep up the work! You’re the man.
I’m here for the story…enough said. But if one would honestly say, it’s sick to watch Ben surf. Not all of us can, for many different reasons. If I only had one working arm, I would still be out there. I have the scar to prove it.
Sorry to hear it man, surgery is a bitch but I truly don't think I would be who I am in the water without the surgery I got on my arm. I got put out for 5 months and it was one of the hardest times of my life. Not to mention the 3 time I broke my collarbone unrelated to surgery. You got this, keep your head up, things will get better.
Ben- as a 34 year old northeast surfer, you got me through open heart surgery recovery are actively helping me with alcohol consumption. There’s thousands of us out there that are supporting you that you don’t even know about. Three months can seem daunting but you got this! What’s a quick 90 days for the boys?
Hang in there Ben I picked up all the positive vibes from your videos and this video , you'll be back in the water very soon and we all can't wait talk care and recover well
Had that surgery and a Labrum tear re-anchored, plus bone spurs removed, I was surfing in Costa Rica 4 months later during back to back purple blob swells and caught the best waves of my life, oh and I was 47. You're gonna slay it
I had this same injury and surgery. You’re going to come back fine from this, you’ll be 100% and I wish you luck. I had many injuries in my younger days that I did not take care of properly that have led to worse conditions now that I’m older (52). I’ve had 8 surgeries in as many years and have more to come. Don’t forget that you are A PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE!!!!! If you don’t take care of your body and the small injuries as they occur you are shortening your shelf life. Great decision to go right in for the surgery, good luck and heal fast. Love the videos!!!
Injuries are part of life if you push the limits. I detached a retina at 10 years old (1962). Broke numerous ribs over the years. Almost drowned at Sunset Beach in the 70's. Shredded my MCL in a massive barrel. I'm 71 and headed to the beach later today. Best of luck to you. Time goes by. Maybe focus on helping others while you're out of the water. No matter what happens you will figure it out. Most importantly, try to relax and not worry to much. You've already experienced more awesome waves than most ever will. Aloha my brother. Take care.
You have given so much to the world of surfing, and especially gave the East Coast the credibility that it deserves. I have been following you ever since you surfed Presque Isle Pa. That is where I taught my son how to surf. You are a legend, and we all love you for it. Enjoy your family! We are always in your corner.
Ben, I've never commented on your channel, nor most all others, but take it from a 56 yr old, recovering alcoholic who, from a car accident, has had probably 12+ surgeries, (11 months, 3 weeks , and a day in a hospital bed) with an ankle that's completely fused with ten screws, a bowed left leg with a much needed knee replacement, and life is still awesome. My wife tells me often, "it's not happening to you. It's happening for you." At times, that's a hard pill to swallow, but what my body allows me to do is all I have. That's life. Lean on your family for the support during the recovery. Today, I still surf, ride motorcycles, golf, and go shooting. Life is still good. You'll be tubed again before you know it, and that's one of the BEST feelings on Earth!!! Be well, and God Bless!!!!
Just talked to him. He said 3 months he was climbing again and 6-8 months for the mental. Then a year later he was better than before the surgery. You got this!
My friend had the exact same injury and he did it the same way, stalling on back side barrel. He had the surgery, recovered completely and is surfing his best!
As someone who has watched your videos for years and seen you through a lot of different injuries, I can tell how upset and devastated you are right now man. You always put out such a positive mindset man, but this time I think you need some help with it for once.. so just know your community is here for you man and will always support you and your dream. You have one hell of a bright light within you and God might be testing you right now but he never puts people through things they can’t handle especially with such an awesome community around you. Good luck, God bless and heal up man. You are destined for great things
I completely ruptured my bicep tendon surfing!! I thought I was the only one on planet earth with that type of freak accident in the surf. Recovery took 5 plus months for me - but thankfully I have full use of my arm. It sucks but your life has been blessed beyond measure. Keep your head up focus on your spiritual growth as you already do! We look forward to one of few people on earth making a positive impact in the world! You’ve got this B G! 🏄🏻♂️hank 🤙🏼ou for all that you do!
Been through many hard times my friend.. from losing my daughter and being stuck physically, mentally and emotionally for years to numerous health issues - you just gotta keep your wheels turning ❤ life gets hard but 3 months is a drop in the bucket! You can and will rise above and come back stronger and wiser for it! You got this!! 🤙🏼
Hi Ben - Wanted you to know my husband and I are praying for you & your wife & family / team! We hope you heal thoroughly and quickly! My husband has been surfing for over 50 years and I have grown to appreciate the sport from the shoreline. We watch your videos all the time and love your adventures - but have really grown to love you and what you stand for. Your material is fun, engaging, authentic and a true inspiration! Its super fun to watch you surf - but really special to see your artistry in your videos, gear etc expand and evolve as you go along. Keep on, keepin on! Your identity is not in surfing - its an important facet of yourself - but you bring much more to the table! Hope this helps you a little while you take the time to recuperate. Molly, South Palm Beach, FL
Hey ben, it's been almost 5 years now that I've been out of the water permanently. Can't tell you how bad it sucks that I can't surf. Do what they tell you, get the surgery and have some piece of mind. You'll be back in before you know it. I had a dirtbike accident that left me partially paralyzed on my right side. and tore my bicep 3 times.. you'll be right as rain!!
Been an athlete/active person my whole life with many many injuries and setbacks. Seems like each new one will be more devastating than the last. I’m 52 and still doing my thing. It gets better before you know it. You have a great positive mindset and your followers are here because of that. Keep it rolling you got this 🤙🏼
Ben, you gotta do this if you can. A plaugue of Reoccurring injuries will follow if you don't and you will miss even more time and feel more pain...i couldn't take that time and I know how it changes evrything. Watching you on your jouney, dude you did pipeline you need to be bomb proof! We're gonna want updates man cant wait to see you on the mend.
Ben Im so sorry for your injury and that you have to have surgery. Im sure you will do great and improve as close to 100% as possible. If you put in the hard work rehabbing, you can have a way better outcome then other people, who not in as good of shape as you.
Injuries suck! I almost died from a bazaar nose bleed in my sleep from banging into a door earlier that day. Compressed my C6 & C7, and still after ten years have numbness in the left thumb and index finger. Especially numb after a day rock climbing. Let me say that I don't even surf. (Well, i have but barely.) I watch your channel because you're still out there afer an injury doing it another way. I'm an old man at 69 and you inspire me with your drive, enthusiasm, and tenacity. You've got lots of options, including with the surfing theme. I'd say suck it up and get after it, but i can see you know that's always what it takes. Keep us in the loop, where ever this takes you.
You have done so much good for this world and only God knows how much you helped me in my life through your vlogs. I and pulling and praying for you Legend!! You got this!!!!
Love you Ben... lots of people love what you do and what you stand for. Thousands of thoughts and prayers from people you will never meet go out for and to you. It's hard not to be scared right now butstay strong. All will be well.
Super bummed to hear this Ben! Surgery is the only option. I tore my upper bicep tendon away from the shoulder, while dealing with a torn labrum and rotator cuff. Surgery fixed all of it and and I was back in the water in 8 months. This injury is common w/football players. You definitely want this dealt with ASAP! Many times its a career ender like tearing ACL's back in the 80's & 90's. Surgeons are so good these days, you'll be back in the water after rehab in less than 6 mos. if all goes well. Stay positive. Get well soon bro! 🙏🙏🙏
Sorry this happened to you. it sounds good you're getting the surgery don't worry about the channel everyone loves all your content and I remember not long ago you were talking about wanting to add some more life content like you used to do also people can watch previous videos they missed and maybe you'll have time for some fully nuking podcasts so even if it takes a few months of recovery time will go by fast!
You are gonna be fine brother. You have inspired me , and so many others with your positivity and stoke . Much respect to you and your family. Keep positive and hang in there.
I've had more than my share of surgeries due to injury. Physical therapy works wonders. Keep living the dream. You'll make the best of it. We're with you.
He fella, sending you big ❤❤❤ it’s a test for sure. I’m just back after 2 months out the water. It is tough at times but be mindful, breathe, walk and enjoy the small things. We are all here for you ❤
Hi Ben, you'll do awesome. Once you heal up from your surgery there are plenty of things you can do and film. Go find some of your buddies and hang out with them maybe interview them or let them interview you on their podcast, you know make fun of each other and stuff. You can throw in visiting some of the stores that sell your sponsors stuff and sign some merchandise for fans. Think outside the box, we'll follow you around and hangout with you along the journey until you're up and charging again buddy. 🙏...
Dang Ben, Three months is my normal surf interval. Thanks to your stoke and enthusiasm. It used to be pretty much never. I can’t thank you enough. You’ll be just fine.
You got this brother! I ignored an absolute plethora of injuries in my youth. Ended up on disability at 36 years old. I'm 50 now and it's such a battle to remain functioning. But I still build, fight through the pain and have been able to at least be able to get out in the water. You inspired me to fight harder to get back in the water after almost 6 years out. You always talk about taking care of yourself mentally and to be an advocate to take care of yourself physically is just as important. You will thank yourself later in life many many times. Godspeed
Praying for a speedy recovery brother❤. I haven't surfed since last august , just from life situations. It's never fun not being able to get in the water. Don't worry about anything Gods got you .
Wishing you a successful, speedy recovery. We’ve all loved the content and watching you surf but remember surfing is a life style and it’s not over. Interesting content will come naturally.
Brah!!! You get this! I’m 60, still on mend from meniscus repair last April, my 4th shoulder surgery this last November, of the over a dozen orthopedic surgeries. I’ve caught one wave in the last 2 years. My 💔is dying without the ocean and surfing. Surfing got me through the last 50+ years….I really need it to get me through now. 🙏🙏🙏s brah that it’s a quick, full recovery, you don’t need any more parts fixed, and you’re in da waves asap. 💪🤙🤙
Like you said, take time to figure out what your going to do later in life, enjoy the family. I had to give up surfing at 63 for health reasons . Now I paint waves on canvas. Good luck Ben just take it one day at a time you have tons of talent to share.😊
Hang in there Ben. You helped me through the hardest time of my life in 2022 and I’d like to thank you at this difficult time. Love what you do 3 months will flyby & lots of research and contacts can be made for the “around the world for the dream!!”
Ben you helped my one of my closest bros thru the last few years of his life. We used to windsurf, surf, sup together over many years. It was horrible to lose my buddy but dude you got this. For real. Hang tough and heal. Surf will be there for you. "Brah more wave soon come" 🤙
Ben, as hard as these injuries and recoveries have been, you have an amazing group of family, friends and followers who will support you and keep your spirit high. Much respect from Pawleys Island, SC. Yew've got this and that's the claim.
I had two knee surgeries and the kept me outta the water for a year each time. Praying you’ll heal up and recover soon also for comfort. Look forward to future updates!
Crossing fingers for you, Ben. Really sorry and sad to hear all that. Wishing you best of luck and to persevere through the rehabilitation process as quick as possible. Meanwhile, desperate to see more of your reflection videos. The Great Lakes one was fantastic! Hope you'll keep vloggin' and making boards and merch. For the dream!
I love your videos and watch them every day at the gym....and I'll keep watching any updates you post. Keep your head up, do what's right for you and your family and we'll remain for the stoke in whatever form is next.
I understand all of the things that have been going thru ur mind, i just got out uf meniscuscus surgery yesterday, and feel super impatient, since i got out of a back surgery 2 years ago and took me 1.5 years to be able to surf again. a million things is going thru my mind but have some family and 1-2 friends that stick by my side and help me emotionally. We got you brother ! If you need to talk email me, keep posting and keeping your head straight is important. Hope for the best always but be prepared for the worst. Everything wil be ok. Much love and respect.
Ben, you’re the most inspiring dude I’ve ever followed. You’re gonna get through this and look back at this video like “what was I thinking? Taking 3 months off to reset made me love what I do 7000x more.” Also, idea: would love to see you interview friends about their journeys to surfing. What makes THEM tick? We’re here for your journey, but you inspire everyone else on theirs, too. Cheers and good health!
dang dude so sorry to hear that.... hang in there man. you'll be back. take advantage of the time off and spend with the fam like you said... life is hills and valleys man. no matter what we always hit down times, and its just important to try and come back stronger from the hard times.
Ben, been watching this vlog since around 2019, your spiritual journey, your sobriety, but your genuiness and realness, who you are, pulled me into the vlog, got me into surfing, 43 years young myself, I've struggled with alcohol and substances for quite some time, your journey, the amazing hobbs path to enlightenment, your vlog impacts so many, brainstorm here, I kniow I miss the fully nuking podcast epsiodes, where Makki at? Jverni dust off the mics!
Dude, everything's gonna be fine. 3 months will go by so fast. Invest in your physical recovery and come back stronger than ever. I'm rootin' for ya, pal!!! Cheers from Surf Langenfeld
Hey Ben, Just wanted to send good wishes through the surgery and recovery. I know you're bumming but you'll be on the mend soon✔️ Positive Vibes 247 Much ❤ 🤙✌️
I was chatting with the Pro Skater Lance Mountain a couple weeks ago and he said he tore both biceps over the years and didn't get them repaired. He's having issues in his older age. It's good you're getting it fixed. God Bless You ❣️
Dude no way!! A week or so after seeing you again in Venice, FL I tore my left bicep the exact same way! Trying to stall for a barrel. I'm about 2 months post surgery. Recovery is going well. You got this!
Sorry to hear this Ben but you made the right call. Just take it one day at a time and focus on getting better every day. Before the surgery that means prepping, relaxing, making a plan for after surgery and what you are going to make your days look like or how you could make them productive. You are a relatable athlete so we will all be interested in your recovery so definitely vlog it up. Always be thinking about solutions to the problems that are going to come up. You can always turn a negative into some positives.
Welcome to the world ordinary joes. I work, work work and work.and if im.luvky enough to surf im too stuffed to do it! Barely surf once a month these days! Wish you a speedy recovery!
Damn Ben so sorry to hear about this. I know you will pull through. Keep updating us and looking forward to what you come up with with old content with you charging big surf . You gonna be just fine .🌊🙏⛱️
Bummer, you'll get through it.... these things sometimes open up new doors too so you never know what might come from it. Stay strong and I look forward to seeing you back in the water soon!
... Heavy Situation and super heartfelt Reveal - Surgery seems the right call, prayers for 100% success. Had similar - (20-odd years ago); overhead backside barrels (Southside Casino Pier, Seaside). Deep back-side rail-grab, lost balance - left arm went into lip, got flipped over backwards landing on arm as wave exploded on me. Came up, board in two pieces - couldn't move my arm. Arm was dead for days/weeks - never saw a doctor (un-insured, no $$). Took months, but came back strong... Found out years later i severely tore my rotator-cuff, still lots of spurs/fragments and (somewhat) limited motion; still hurts - (especially during storms). Been told several times i need to have it trimmed out and cleaned up, Ob-La-Di. If i had decent Insurance at the time, i likely would have had it fixed Proper. You're doing the right thing - couple months flies by, water warms up - life be good again, Mon' - Like Bob Dylan says : Good Luck
I had the same surgery in October last year. Good choice having the operation your arm will be back to normal in no time. We need you in the water dude! One Love Brother.
Everything happens for a good reason, always learning always growing. Yes all the times we get injured and it restricts our ability to move freely is our body telling us to RELAX. Make time to relax as much as you make time to be “doing”
Been watching your journey since the days of the ratchety 4Runner. You’ve come so far, worked hard and deserve the success you’ve had. Injuries suck but you’ll get through this. Your followers, the waves and future adventures aren’t going anywhere. Taking care of yourself is the right thing to do. 🤙🏼
You are an elite soldier athlete of mythical proportions. You are young and will heal fast. We are super lucky to have excellent doctors and surgeons in the NJ area. Pain is temporary and they have good pain meds now. Just suck it up, soldier.
With you Ben….. prayers for you man. Followed you for years, love and relate to your life story. To be honest you’re a true inspiration for sobriety and how it has so positively changed your life. You’ve changed my life and many others with your story. Keep it up and God Speed with recovery. J Napes from San Diego
Ben you got this man! Keep staying active and take all the natural supplements you can ! You will be back in no time, don’t let it get you down brotha!
Ben, You have been such an inspiration to so many people. You have hurdled over many obstacles in your life, and you’ve come out stronger than ever No doubt this sucks!! But you’re stronger than your injury, your sheer will and strength will get you through. Your fans will be here praying for you for a full recovery. For the dream!!!! You got this
Good luck to you Ben, I am currently 2 months post op on the same injury. As long as power lifting isn't your jam you will be good to go once it is fixed. Do not rush the healing process.
Ben we don’t need the surfing we watch because you’re stoked on life. You got this dog
Idk, he catches some pretty cool waves as well 🤔
yeah i watch and like for ben❤
100%

Hi Ben, you'll do awesome. Once you heal up from your surgery there are plenty of things you can do and film. Go find some of your buddies and hang out with them maybe interview them or let them interview you on their podcast, you know make fun of each other and stuff. You can throw in visiting some of the stores that sell your sponsors stuff and sign some merchandise for fans. Think outside the box, we'll follow you around and hangout with you along the journey until you're up and charging again buddy. 🙏...
Ouch! Wishing you the best for the journey through surgery and recovery Ben.
Dang Ben,
Three months is my normal surf interval.
Love what you do
3 months will flyby & lots of research and contacts can be made for the “around the world for the dream!!”
We love you Ben!! You'll get through this...getting it fixed (surgery) is the right way to go...you have a long future of surfing ahead of you!
Ben you helped my one of my closest bros thru the last few years of his life. We used to windsurf, surf, sup together over many years. It was horrible to lose my buddy but dude you got this. For real. Hang tough and heal. Surf will be there for you. "Brah more wave soon come" 🤙

Ben, you’re the most inspiring dude I’ve ever followed. You’re gonna get through this and look back at this video like “what was I thinking? Taking 3 months off to reset made me love what I do 7000x more.”
Also, idea: would love to see you interview friends about their journeys to surfing. What makes THEM tick? We’re here for your journey, but you inspire everyone else on theirs, too.

You're dedicated to your craft Ben, injuries happen, you'll get through this w flying colors. Keep us updated on your rehab.
Good luck Ben, you’ll be back stronger than ever 😊

It sucks liking a video that hurts your heart. So sorry Ben! We have your back homie. I’m subscribed for the dream!! Much love from PA
I had the same surgery in October last year. Good choice having the operation your arm will be back to normal in no time. We need you in the water dude! One Love Brother.
You're strong, thank you for being a great inspiration. You're human and have support! 🤙
Oh man, I'm thinking of you, Ben. Good luck and God Bless. You got this!
Everything happens for a good reason, always learning always growing. Yes all the times we get injured and it restricts our ability to move freely is our body telling us to RELAX. Make time to relax as much as you make time to be “doing”
Sorry to hear Ben! Hope the recovery goes well and looking forward to following the journey. You rock!❤
Injury brings gratitude. This is not a bad thing. Hope it all goes well.
Good luck on recovery! Wishing you the best. You'll come back stronger!
Ben,
You have been such an inspiration to so many people.
You have hurdled over many obstacles in your life, and you’ve come out stronger than ever
No doubt this sucks!!
