This is such an accurate portrayal of what goes through your head when you get hurt. Fear, anger, pain and adrenaline are charging; all capped by endless calculations of how long you'll be laid-up. Then finally, acceptance.
Don't worry Ben, you'll be back. Just let yourself heal and don't come back too early. Let people do things for you (shoulda let your camera buddy drive you to the hospital).

I broke my clavical in half. Had a plate and nine screws, one screw was for a fracture. After I came too from surgery it was worst burning pain in my life even with morphine. I had sleep sitting up for 6 weeks, brutal. After 8 weeks I could start my own therapy. Took me about 6 months to get back to some normalcy. A good Orthopedic surgeon is key to recovery!

I am so sorry to hear this, Ben. Life is full of setbacks but you WILL get through this. I have also broken my collar bone, but my most recent and serious setback was colon cancer. I was out of the water for a year while I went through treatments that saved my life. Your videos were a big help in keeping me going through that very difficult time, so thank you so much for that. Please keep us up to date about your recovery journey, as I'm sure you will continue to inspire throughout this new challenge. Keep the dream alive!

I shattered my collarbone worse than that in December of 2018, in a racing wreck, the er told me that they don't fix collar bones, but ONE doctor said in some cases they do, two weeks after I broke it, they went in and removed the pieces and put a titanium plate on it and mine was repaired. I was surfing again by march of 2019. the after-op pain is worse than the break, I recommend you get it plated because it won't ever be the same, mine works awesome and I can paddle and surf as hard as ever now. get a good bone doc and fix it. good luck and we're all praying for your speedy recovery.

I know you're pissed that you were out surfing "dumb waves", but that's what is also so great about you. Always up to have a good time on a nice day, even if the waves are tiny and crap. Your approach and attitude towards life is awesome, and that is what is getting you opportunities. You'll be back in the water in no time. Heal up!

Same here. First run on fresh snow and off into the woods we went. Everything was white and had no depth perception. Right off the side of the mountain and slammed into a rock or tree, something. Traveled hours to be there. Stayed for another 6 plus hours before heading home then to the hospital.
Crazy all they give you is a $1 sling to hold you together till it heals. My right shoulder hangs about two inches lower than my left. Unable to left it above my head. That was 23 years ago.

Very trippy that you broke your collar bone, because a broken collar bone is how I discovered you. I broke my collar bone riding BMX at the end of august. Still recovering and months away from healing. Now BMX might not be in the cards for me anymore, at least not for the foreseeable future. I still want to get out and do something and since I’ve got a place in Ventnor I started looking in to getting a surfboard for the first time in my life. A friend recommended I check out your boards, then I found your channel and have been hooked. Your positive attitude and inclusive approach to the sport is awesome. Really enjoy everything you put out.
Hope your healing process goes smoothly! Stay positive and don’t rush the recovery. If it doesn’t heal right it just makes matters worse… trust me.
Maybe I’ll see you around Ventnor sometime!

Exactly how I broke my collar bone about 15 years ago. Was bored... no swell... went looking for barrels... found a little sand dredger... dropped in pig dog to try and fit. Lip wacked me forward cause I didn't fit. Went shoulder first into sand bar. Also broke the nose of my board. So much damage for one of the smallest waves/days lol. I actually didn't know the bone was broken at first and was more bummed about my board. Then looked up at the beach and all the sand was rainbow colored. I guess the dopamine drop from breaking bones can do some hallucinogenic things. That's when I noticed my arm slumping and bump under the suit...heh. Always a fun story to tell. I feel ya! Hoping for a quick recovery! Finally have a video to show my friends exactly how I broke my collar bone all those years ago... cause this is it! Gotta be weary of eating sand bar at all times... even in 1 ft surf.

We both feel for you and hope that you know you will be back in action in just two short months. All the good work you've been doing these days will still be there when you're back and so will we! Too much on social media we just see the stellar version of someone's life to the detriment of viewers who start to think, "What's wrong with me? Why isn't my life so sweet?" You are always looking to be helpful and I believe that keeping it real is one way to be helpful. However corny it sounds: life is the journey, the journey is life. Best wishes!!!

Feeling for your pain brother as i can feel it through the video - thankfully u have a wonderful fan community to support that difficult phase of recovery . Often siblings dont listen to Us & project others mental stuffs over our situation . Totally can relate to that !! Mentally , physically , emotionally & relationally , it's a rollercoaster . Many of us have probably had similar tough situations in our lives as well . I broke a few bones in my body 20 years ago +multiple bike accidents in India . The best way i dealt with those unexpected painful accident years ago was to deeply EQUALIZE with the pain / frustrations / shock with Yogic breathing mediations i had learned . Once i deeply accepted that phase , i asked myself : Why did i create it and what can i learn from it during my recovery phase . It brought me a new perspective on how powerful our Souls are creative , resilient , and capable of incredible transformations of consciousness .Its a very humbling experience since the Ego feels powerless . Wishing u all the best , even for the deal u though u messes up with 🙏

I just moved out to Hawaii, started work, and on the first day of working as a journeyman plumber I dislocated my knee. Tearing my ACL, both sides of my meniscus and partially tore my mcl. The heath insurance that Hawaii offers does not cover my surgery, I had to perform my own rehab, forced myself through the pain of 100’s of hours of Bikram yoga just to walk again. I quit drinking, started taking complex amino acids and did a shit ton of research for rehab. I’m 29 man. It sucks bro, I have two kids and a wife to feed and I was worried shitless about how I was going to make it in this expensive ass state, but I GOT THROUGH IT! You got this man. As someone who works in healthcare, has broken 5 bones myself and seen a great deal of trauma I love the moment you called your mom “bro” So relatable! We cannot do anything without our health. Health is #No1 and ‘success’ is not a linear path as I am sure you are aware. I’ve had stomach polyps cut out, bad back, auto immune issues, list goes on . . . and broken bones and driven to hospital just as you did! My first thought was ‘insurance void if you crash’, 😅 … try to remember that 6-8 weeks is a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things. And Wow the commitment to keeping the camera rolling whatever happens is commendable! Happy healing and speedy / patient recovery 😊

Wow. This video really hit me so hard. I am so sorry to see you having to go through this. Hopefully your recovery goes very quickly. Your channel has been my lifeline for getting stoked for the last 8 months. Seeing the pain on your face and hearing the disappointment and frustration in your voice due to the injury interfering with your plans really resonates with me. Last spring I was two months away from retiring(We can retire young in my line of work) and getting ready to start on my own surfing/snowboarding/hiking/mountain bike adventure and I ended up completely tearing my Achilles tendon on March 31st. I had surgery on April 7th and having been recovering from that ever since. Recovery from an Achillies tear is usually 9 months to a year. To make matters worse, once I got out of the walking boot I started training upper body in the gym and I ended up tearing my pec in August. Stay strong brother, the recovery time line seems very overwhelming in the early stages, but once you get the bone set and start physical therapy it will go very quickly and you will be back out there again.
