Complete Bicep Tendon Rupture | 10 Days after Surgery

  • Hey everyone, welcome to my reality over the past few weeks. Constantly worrying about my situation & how I can improve or get better on the road to Recovering from Distal Bicep Tendon Surgery. Today is the 10 day update, where I anticipated being in my brace, but here I am getting a cast for another week. For such a low impact injury this has been a pretty stressful experience, but being on the other side of it & starting to feel like I'm making forward progress is the most amazing feeling that one can ask for. Thanks for all of the love & support everyone. - Ben

As a non-pro athlete, its really frustrating to deal with injury diagnosis and quick effective care for return to sport when insurance companies deny requests and conservative treatment paths are prioritized. I had to pay 100 bucks 2x a week just for PT in the philly area, moved to tahoe and left my full time job to just work part time and now dont pay a dime for any treatment lol.

I've never surfed in my life, yet here I am as a subscriber. During Covid, JOB came into my youtube feed. I was bored while working from home and watched. In one of Jamie's episodes, you were in it. At that point, I started following both you and Jamie. Not for the surfing, but what you both are as incredible humans. So, while you think your episodes are about surfing, but in reality its much deeper than that. This setback is only temporary. And while you can't surf, I'm more than happy to watch your daily life (along with Denny boy). A day in the life of Maki vlog would be awesome as well.

I don't do high risk surfing. I am just an older man that loves to boogie board surf the beaches of Anastasia Island. Surfing is just for fun. If you make a career out of it, you are living on the edge. Hang in there Ben, 6 months is not long at all. Find the silver lining behind the clouds and know that the Sun is always shining somewhere. The great spirit in the sky has life lessons you must learn.

Ben Gravy "cruise out the back"? In what reality??? LOL! The length of time they've got you in casts & braces is really short comparatively. You've got this! Remember it's just a process. Six weeks after heart surgery they said I could start doing my morning floor pop ups again. I tried but had to crawl up from the floor LOL! So I started doing pushups off the wall working further & further away as I got stronger.. It came back pretty quickly and that's without the expert help you've got. Surfing is awesome but whatever you want to share with us is fine! Give Jamie & Tina my best wishes for many years of happiness!

Maybe you can begin to change your total focus on you surfing toward helping others? As I've gotten older and been less able to go skateboarding, I turned more to surfing, but now I'm sort of aging out of that, but what has given me a lot of joy us building DIY concrete skate spots. Essentially setting things up for the younger generations to help make their journies easier.

I know how you feel, I’m just getting back into surfing after 3 years break, and I’ve strained the muscles on my inner thigh left leg, just from sitting on my wide long board, not as bad as yours but using the clutch on my car worsened it to the point of agony just getting out of bed, limping around with a broomstick. You have to deal with the pain and the inability to surf.Just when I was getting over it I started driving my car again and the pain is back as bad as ever. Good luck with your injury!!

As someone who is getting older and been through a lot of injury, I now realize how important it is to work on total body strength. You bounced back so quickly last time you just went straight to surfing. Would be so good for you to continue working on the things you're doing with the rest of your body. Total body strengthening is the key to longevity and preventing injury when you get older my friend. Look what it did for Fanning. And you know we won't leave you, quit stressing that one. I think you already know your fans are different than most

When i was in my early 20s i slammed on a bicycle after a nite partying the band Imner Circle was in Naples FL and all the crew was there raging (many years ago) ,,, I was riding home with my bro and slammed breaking my collar bone!!! My buddy kept going to get his VW Bus n come back for me but after a little bit i came too and said i need to gtfo b4 the cops find me drunk on the side of the road ,,,So i peddled home with 1 arm drunk and it sucked every bump hurt but i made it home around 3am!! Emergency room the next morning and yes a broken collar bone,,,I was in a brace and sling for 3mos definitely lost all my 💪 in that arm / shoulder and recovery after was brutal it took mos and i felt it for a couple years,,,When i finally did get back to the gym after a few mos i was lifting the bar but slowly very slowly i got my mobility n 💪back and came back better then ever !!! I have always worked out and i think thats the best thing u can do Gravy is workout as much as u can without using that injured arm ,,,Walking is great too stay as active as u can and u will bounce back 💯 💪🌊🤙

Then there is Bethany Hamilton ( i knew bethany before she was born)she had her arm bite off at dumbstruck. Dumptrucks, what a wave that is,I got the wave of the day barrel in the summer of 88. In case they didn't tell you, rotate your shoulder joint on a regular basis, every day. Otherwise it can freeze up with scar tissue in the socket. This happened to me when I broke my arms and no one told me about the shoulder issue. PT is painful and unnecessary.

Wow, you're so fortunate and you're definitely young enough to make a full recovery. Maybe consider there's a lot of things happen to people that they don't have the kind of support structure that you have. You're going to be fine stop the whine, use this opportunity to come back stronger I know you've got tons of people trying to give you advice and encouragement along the way, but this is just another brick in the wall of Life man, you are lucky. Seems like you're still kind of trying to fight the reality, layoff driving with one arm just listen to the doctors and when you get a chance to start physical therapy go out at 100%. You're dropping videos that are old, bring everybody up to speed in the actual timeline that's going on right now. What's been going on in the last 3 weeks or are you just too frustrated to share, come on man you got this

Every doc has a different protocol, but I had a cast for 2 weeks, then they cut the cast in half, and I wore the bottom half with an ace bandage wrap for two weeks, then I got the brace for six weeks. Of all three, the splint cast was the best. The brace kinda sucks.

I feel your pain and frustration Brother, I’ve just had a lung blow out and no idea how long I’ll be out of the water or if I’ll even be able to again. Chin up, keep on keeping on Bro!

Don't feel so bad Ben, I've been out of the water for 1 year due to a bad injury and it's a mental strength test for sure. I have about 3 more months to go and then hopefully I can get back into the water.
