Even if they oppose truly elective abortion, or oppose truly elective surgical abortion after 6, 8, 10, or 12 weeks, they still need to leave it to doctors to decide how to prioritize the woman’s safety, which means allowing medically indicated abortion up to 20 weeks, and then to prioritize live births after 20 weeks. No doctor should be liable criminally of civilly for performing abortion, so long as he had certified that there was a medical need to protect the woman’s safety in terms of an even moderately extraordinary risk. Idk the specifics of these cases but my medical 2 cents: methotrexate is typically not used if there is fetal cardiac activity because it has a high failure rate. The preferred choice is surgery, a salpingostomy or salpingectomy, which these women ultimately had anyway.

An ectopic pregnancy can’t in the first place _become_ a fetus (or even an embryo, I think) unless relocated to a proper womb (which might be technological rather than natural). So, using the term in this context is misleading.
An ectopic pregnancy IS a pregnancy. The embryo just isn't implanted where it should be to develop properly and be viable. There is no known medical technique permitting the transfer of the embryo to the uterus, and there is no safe outcome for the mother without medical intervention. The tissu around the ectopic pregnancy often ruptures from week 6 to week 16, with the embryo developing into a fetus around week 9.
A fallopian tube is at most 5 inches long and 0.6 inches in diameter. Does not seem possible that a fetus (10 weeks of pregnancy) would even be viable in the tiny fallopian tube, which means there could not be a heartbeat. Politicians are making rules about a potential being that is nowhere near a viable lifeform at that stage, but the woman could die if the tube ruptures and causes peritonitis
An ectopic pregnancy is never viable as it will eventually rupture the fallopian tube and it cannot be moved or re-implanted in the uterus, but cardiac activity (not quite the same as a heartbeat) can sometimes be detected via ultrasound as early as 6 weeks. That is how my ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed prior to 10 weeks (in my case closer to 7-8 weeks).
What a failure you are @Teddycheong, it's wanted pregnancies ending in rotting babies killing their mothers with sepsis or loss of fertility so they can't start a family at all. You don't go to the hospital for a 17$ pill to end a possible pregnancy chance the morning after, these are real women in crisis, you're the ghouls who will have to answer for having a hand in allowing a woman to die with the dead child she is carrying. If you could get pregnant, and that child began to rot you would be demanding help and we would be right to leave you to suffer the way you gleefully wish others do.
Some states will restrict abortions more than others. Whatever your state decides accept it, or decide to leave. It's your choice. Y’all vet your stories, and maybe talk with a medical professional with a history of working with this type of situations, pathetic!!!
Methotrexate is not an “abortion drug”. It’s primarily used as a first line treatment for autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis. However, because it is a folic acid antagonist it can be used off label to stop an embryo that has implanted outside of the uterus (which is NEVER a viable pregnancy) from growing by preventing cell division after which the woman’s body will the reabsorb the pregnancy. When diagnosed early, methotrexate can resolve an ectopic pregnancy without the need for invasive surgery thereby preserving a woman’s future fertility. I had an ectopic pregnancy nearly 20 years ago that was treated in this way. The ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed via ultrasound when cardiac activity was detected in my fallopian tube. Banning this medication would be detrimental for patients that require it for RA treatment as well as some cancer treatments. In the right circumstances (as determined by a physician), it can also be a very effective treatment for ectopic. I credit the ob-gyn that was on call when my ectopic was diagnosed with preserving my fertility and allowing me to have the child I desperately wanted 2 years after my ectopic. With already compromised fertility, losing my fallopian tube would have meant I’d likely not have been able to conceive. This was one of the most difficult years of my life, but had it happened now, and in a red state, I’d likely not only have lost a fallopian tube, but possibly my life, leaving my older son without a mother. We need better education for everyone (including our nurses apparently), and we need politicians who do not understand and are not educated about the medical complexities and nuances of “abortion” to stop making decisions for women and their doctors. I can’t believe how far we’ve gone backward in the 20 years since my ectopic experience.
@@danielleomvig839 But, it is a very risky gamble, as many women can’t tolerate an ectopic pregnancy past about 3 wks, and if I was working an ER and had a someone present with a complaint of an ectopic pregnancy, depending on her symptoms and how far along she was, I maybe would treat her, or tell her to go back to her OBGYN or whomever made that diagnosis. I’d have questions about it for sure. If she came in with abdominal pain, etc I would order an ultrasound, pregnancy test, etc, because I would need to have confirmation of her diagnosis before I could proceed, but If she just walked into the ER, asymptotic stating she had been diagnosed with a tubal pregnancy, I would probably recommend her see the dr who diagnosed it; or at minimum, want to know why that person didn’t follow through. But with a situation like a tubal pregnancy, it doesn’t matter, medically speaking or even morally, what the abortion laws for that state are or how that particular doctor feels. The fetus is not going to live under any scenario, and if not taken care of swiftly, can cause harm and even death to the mom. My main point was, that this has NOTHING to do with the abortion issue, there are at lest 25-30 variables right now that I can think of off of the top of my head, why a doctor possibly diagnosed this woman’s tubal pregnancy before she came to the ER, and that doctor prob didn’t prescribe the meds that she ask for, because in her situation he didn’t feel it was a safe option, not because he was pro life, that is just ludicrous to even suggest that, and she prob didn’t listen or understand, got emotional instead of using her head, then presents to the ER asking for treatment from one doctor, for a diagnosis that was given by another, in other words, she was asking this doctor to over ride the previous doctors decision, and it doesn’t matter, no doctor esp an ER dr, is gonna do that!

And no woman should be held liable for consenting to an abortion on her doctor’s advice that there is an even moderately extraordinary risk.
F MISSISSIPPI!
