I love how self-aware Erika is too. She sure can tell a toxic relationship from a healthy one. I much prefer her with Kusakabe because of how compassionate and nurturing he is and how much he respects Erika has a person and treats her as such. Those two would've been perfect for each other.
The manga make much more sense, Kyoya actually care for her and we can clearly see that he likes her and worried about her since the beginning, but here, in anime, they made him a complete jerk lmao.
Aha, this anime is so nostalgic. There are tons of mangas like this back in the days where the guys are jerks. Personally, I never found the charm in them but these types were definitely the characters that were popular among manga creators because they keep writing about them. It's been a long time since I read shoujo mangas and I kinda miss them.
I agree. It was really upsetting to see how Kyouya constantly treated her like garbage and manipulated her and her feelings for him. I wish she liked Kusakabe instead. She was brain washed by Kyouya's mistreatment towards her for so long that she runs to him despite him being the worst and most toxic person ever.

when i watch this in high school i think erika is dumb. why does she ok with a guy treating her like trash. but when i watch this in college then i feel like trying the manga. now i get it. i finally understand kyoya's personality and in the manga erika starts to understand kyoya's personality too and didnt demand as much as when it was in the anime. the anime only cover 1/3 of the chapters. at the end kyoya also try to adjust himself with erika bcs he loves her and at the end they build a healthy family. ITS SO NICE. its kind of realistic. not all handsome guys are good person in term of personality. Erika can manage and be patience with kyoya and thats why they are meant for each other. if no erika in kyoya life i think kyoya will become a jerk forever!

You Know I watched this anime first..and i agreed to the fact that this was a toxic relationship story..the guy was toxic...but then i read a comment here that in the actual manga he has huge character development and is not actual that much of a jerk like its shown here...i read the manga and now i completely agree. he is not actually toxic , just has too many defense walls...which erika manages to pry open...he just has difficulty with expressing his affection and gets embarresed and hides behind his pride and foul mouth..but actually he is really a good guy..he becomes so by the end...this story preaches that all the love potrayed in movies and social media is all fiction and superficial..actual love takes work, patience and determination to see through till the end. it means putting up with each others flaws, communicating with each other and accepting each others joys and pain and treating it as your own. This story taught me so much. The character arc of both Kyouya and Erika changes for better. they grow strong together. He stops foul mouthing her and gives in to her when her true hapiness is at stake. Ya he is hella possessive of her too.
“Lowering the bar for your partners…” Maybe it’s a translation thing, but partners implies affection between both sides at the very least. Definitely a real couple. I did skip several episodes tho bc I’m too old for this trope this time around. Damn tsunderes. Apparently the manga is much better. This is why Maid Sama is so much better and Usui 1000000 times better than Kyoya. just an opinion people and pardon me if i ofend you, ya know it's like i don't know, he at first treats her like rubbish, she suffers, but she loves him anyways, besides the heavy thing that happened in past chapters when he tells her that he likes her, but it's not true, he was just faking again, like he always do, and then is this repetitive memory of sata, the one he always is rememberig, the two snowman's he build, but then in a second the other one is smashed, i'm trying to figure it out what the hell that means, but i already saw the whole anime, and after thinking and obsserving his behavior and his body languague, sata's parents are divorced, his sister understood the situation, but with sata was different, he ate his feelings, and he became a very closed person about everything but specially with feelings, he is a very cold-hearted person, he is reserved about much things and i could notice that he didn't had many friends,he lives alone (i mean i know he said he and his dad lived together or something like that, but he literally lives all by himself, bc his dad is always traveling, so...he doesn't receive much attention from his dad, that could be another thing to figure it out why he is the way he is), he is this person, he created this defense so he couldn't be hurt anymore, until erika, her personality and the way she is, the things she does, i mean even the words she says to him, idk if you didn't notice but when erica confess her feelings for him he looked very surprised and exalted, for me, ofc, but yeah the conclusion here it's just a kind of broken heart , sata's heart, he has problems to express his feelings, he obiously has daddy issues too, the way he talks about love, the way he says he despices "love", and that is stupid feeling love, etcetera. all because the simple fact that as a child he saw how loving his parents were with eachother, and then both of them just divorce and stop feeling love, is a very hurtfull thing for kids to see how their parents split, becauseof this in real cases the kids , they come to develop certain feelings of rootendness and when they grow up they do not have a love interest bc they think they will end up the same as their parents or that they are the same as them, but erika saved sata, and sata feel in love with her, i mean there was huge change there, that's why i think erika is special, bc not any random people can do that, i love this anime, i gives a very special message to the audiece, sorry for this long explanation, but i just wanted to give background to the meaning of the story, byee, and thanks for reading, ofc , if you read it, byeee XD

just an opinion people and pardon me if i ofend you, ya know it's like i don't know, he at first treats her like rubbish, she suffers, but she loves him anyways, besides the heavy thing that happened in past chapters when he tells her that he likes her, but it's not true, he was just faking again, like he always do, and then is this repetitive memory of sata, the one he always is rememberig, the two snowman's he build, but then in a second the other one is smashed, i'm trying to figure it out what the hell that means, but i already saw the whole anime, and after thinking and obsserving his behavior and his body languague, sata's parents are divorced, his sister understood the situation, but with sata was different, he ate his feelings, and he became a very closed person about everything but specially with feelings, he is a very cold-hearted person, he is reserved about much things and i could notice that he didn't had many friends,he lives alone (i mean i know he said he and his dad lived together or something like that, but he literally lives all by himself, bc his dad is always traveling, so...he doesn't receive much attention from his dad, that could be another thing to figure it out why he is the way he is), he is this person, he created this defense so he couldn't be hurt anymore, until erika, her personality and the way she is, the things she does, i mean even the words she says to him, idk if you didn't notice but when erica confess her feelings for him he looked very surprised and exalted, for me, ofc, but yeah the conclusion here it's just a kind of broken heart , sata's heart, he has problems to express his feelings, he obiously has daddy issues too, the way he talks about love, the way he says he despices "love", and that is stupid feeling love, etcetera. all because the simple fact that as a child he saw how loving his parents were with eachother, and then both of them just divorce and stop feeling love, is a very hurtfull thing for kids to see how their parents split, becauseof this in real cases the kids , they come to develop certain feelings of rootendness and when they grow up they do not have a love interest bc they think they will end up the same as their parents or that they are the same as them, but erika saved sata, and sata feel in love with her, i mean there was huge change there, that's why i think erika is special, bc not any random people can do that, i love this anime, i gives a very special message to the audiece, sorry for this long explanation, but i just wanted to give background to the meaning of the story, byee, and thanks for reading, ofc , if you read it, byeee XD

Don’t compare kyoya to usui, kyoya is not perfect compare to usui. I know how he feels, of course because his parents is divorce that’s why he never believe in a relationship since then. I know he doesn’t give the right to hurt erika feelings, atleast this story is reality sometimes being in a relationship is toxic, kyoya and erika pretend to be in a relationship, and learn to be in love with each other. Kyoya in love with erika, but he doesn’t know ho to act towards her, they said usui is better than kyoya. To be honest no one is better because no one is perfect.
Bruh don't even think to bring usui here..... He be 1000 time's better than this dude. Even tho usui is quite have the same characteristics as kyoya.

This anime is an eternal red flag
I am at a complete loss at how this anime is passing as typical, quirky relationship. Erika has no sense of self worth and Kyouya is complete trash. Anybody with a bit of sense is gonna be taken aback by how Kyouya treats Erika. Unfortunately, those folks are gonna not gonna fall in the targeted demographic of this anime. This story was cringey AF. Was I ever this damned dumb in high school? sheesh
