I got the r1280dbs last year and I just ordered the T5. The 1280's by themselves are already incredible with really good bass in my opinion but I'm no audiophile. The sound is very crisp and clear. @@CheeseOnEverything You didn't specify that in the video and it's hardly fair to compare satellite speakers with a sub against just a pair of satellite speakers. I've always thought the Audioengine A2+ are overpriced and these Edifiers basically prove that because the Edifiers have bigger woofers, deeper bass, more power AND they include a remote-all for half the price of the Audioengines
to be honest, i just bought the T5 subwoofer but i find it Really anoying that it makes so much noice at the blowing hole. is there anyway it can be reduced, even at low volume you can here it.
Is there a difference in sound between Edifier R1280db and R1280dbs? (playing without a subwoofer) was kept exactly the same sound quality as the R1280db? I want the R1280dbs but with the same classic quality as the R1280db, without taking or putting anything on the sound.
I have been using the R1280dbs for 2 months. When I connect it to the tv using the optical cable the bass seems to overpower the treble and sounds muddy. When connect it to the tv headphone jack, it sounds perfect. Not sure whether this is caused by tv or the speaker itself.
Thanks for the great video upload! I wish I would have seen this a couple of weeks back prior to purchasing the Edifier R1280T model. I love those speakers, but want to be able to get a bass boost by adding the T5 subwoofer. The R1280T model don't have a "sub out" option, so would the T5 subwoofer still be a viable option to connect to them? I'm currently connecting to the AT-LP60X turntable model; it has an ANALOG OUT 3.5mm port only, so using a 3.5mm to RCA CABLE, connect the turntable to the back of the subwoofer, and then using RCA to RCA cables, connect the sub to the speakers. I haven't gone about doing it, but I was wondering if that's how I would go about doing so for the perfect combination of clarity and sound given my equipment. Sadly enough my Logitech Z560 5.1 system does not sound anywhere near as good as it used to. Thanks in advance!
I guess the only option then would be to use a 3.5mm splitter and feed the same signal directly to the sub. Don't know if it'll sound as good though cuz the speakers aren't differentiating the crossover frequency.
@@CheeseOnEverything Very true, I think it's definitely worth a shot, but if the crossover frequency isn't differentiated adequately, then it may be worthwhile to invest in the Edifiers that do have the Sub Out option. Thanks so much for your response!
After buying and using the jabra elite 75t, I have come to notice how "unclean" my logitech z623's are; the vocals aren't very clear sadly. How would the bass on that sub/speaker set compare to the z623s?
@@CheeseOnEverything I spoke now with my audiofil friend and he told me that even better is to connect source to R1289DB and output for left speaker to connect to woofer input and from woofer output to left speaker ("go through" woofer). Hi! Thanks for the video. I have the old model, and would consider upgrading if the new bluetooth chip supports multiple simultaneous connections (which the old model does not). Do you happen to know if this is possible now?
@@CheeseOnEverything Well, more like both of them paired at the same time, so that you don’t have to manually disconnect one of the phones to be able to play on the other. Most new BT headphones have this option, which is great whenever you have multiple playback devices
Just tried it on two phones (s7 edge and s20+), when you want to switch devices, u still have to hold the Bluetooth button on the remote to switch between the two. But because the device is saved, u don't have to go thru the process of pairing it again

I know I'm a bit late but the reason for that might be the T5 sub. It goes into sleep mode after 5mins of no singnal and that pop sound might be just the sound of the sub turning back on. I don't have this issue on R1855Db without a sub connected via optical.

@@CheeseOnEverything the manual was confusing me and other say complicated stuff
Np! It's really straight forward. Uses two headphone jack to rca cables for both. Headphone jack in computer to rca port on speaker and the same thing from the speaker sub-out port into the rca of the sub
@@CheeseOnEverything Finally I got it, unfortunately the T5 is sold out on Amazon but can wait
how about the sub out of DBs
Can you sync two subs together?
Never tried that before, usually 1 is already more than enough.
Hi, what about the standby mode (of T5)? Apparently, one needs to listen to it pretty loud in order to keep the sub awake? That si, the source volume must be loud. Thank you.
I never noticed it go on standby. Mine works all the time.
Can we plug any subwoofer to these speakers ?
Yes
@@CheeseOnEverything
Do you know what type of cable ? I have a EDIFIER with 'sub out' and a subwoofer JAMO, but i don't know if i can use it, and what kind of cable to use.
It's a headphone jack to rca so ur sub should have the red and white for the cable
@@CheeseOnEverything
Actually he don't have , the only line in is ' lfe'..
Maybe possible with a jack to lfe adapter?
However on the product specs it's write line in : 2 RCA /LFE but there is only one entry . maybe it can be compatible ?
Ok i think i just understant , i plug jack from my Edifier speakers to only one RCA to my subwoofer :o
But i don't know if i have to plug the white one or the red one , or maybe it's the same ^^
Thanks for the help :)
R1700BT vs R1280DBs which is better sound ?
1700 have more bass by themselves if you're not planning to pair it with a sub.
@@CheeseOnEverything Between these 2. Which personal choice would you take?
I did have the 1700 as a consideration when I bought the 1280s but for the price, I chose the 1280 and spared the money for the sub. Imo neither of these speakers had enough bass for my liking. And personally I liked the look of the 1280dbs for my desktop.
What is your opinion when r1280dbs with T5 subwoofer compared to s350db
It's way better. Much more output and bigger boxes make for better sound
@@CheeseOnEverything hey could let me know the settings on the sub when paired to r1280dbs
I have it set to about a quarter on the sub
Now if we can get a Headphone and Microphone jack on the control speaker. That would be awesome.
What frequency on the sub?
38-200 Hz
@@CheeseOnEverything what crossover frequency did u set?
About 60hz, volume at 3/4
@@CheeseOnEverythingOnce you adjust the sub crossover, does the 1280's high pass move to that point ?
How will this sound with my R1280DB (one without Subwoofer) using a Y splitter? The Edifier website says it can be done. Thanks.
It can be, the crossover of frequency won't be as nice but it'll still sound better than no sub
@@CheeseOnEverything bottomline, you do recommend that I get a sub on that set up?
@@deanvm9158 depends how important sound quality is to you. Personally I'd just keep the 1280 since it's the same speaker minus the sub out and just buy the sub
@@CheeseOnEverything that's what I mean, just get the sub and use y splitter? Is that what you're saying? And yes, audio quality is important. Very important.
Yup, that's what I'd do.
I was wondering if the latest version can be added to logitech z623 sub woofer
Itll work if u have the right wires
@@CheeseOnEverything wondering if logitech G560 sub would work. what wires are needed? Thanks
@Jester Cabantog If im not mistaken, logitech uses their own proprietary cables on the 560. Unless it has an RCA or headphone in jack, it won't work
can I use RCA female and 3.5mm male to convert the wires? will it work that way?
@@jestercabantog870 look at the back of ur sub, if it doesn't have rca or 3.5mm jack connectors, it's not gonna work
Hi sir!
If you use the the volume knob of the r1280dbs will the subwoofer also adjust? Or need also to adjust the sub manually?
Thanks
It's auto synced.
Can this sub out connected to creative stage v2 subwoofer?
It should work
Hi is the Volume knob also endless turning like the old model R1280DB ?
Yes
@@CheeseOnEverythingSo bad, why they was thinking that is nice? WTF
why not make you see the exact Volume, and where it stands...very very bad
Thanx :))
@@arti5ttitlegoe5here They did that because of the remote control. If you have a fixed volume knob, it'll be fighting with each other once you change the volume on the remote.
Cheese on Everything thanx
Hey there! We have the same bookshelf dbs version that has sub out, just ordered t5 and its on its way, im using my gaming pc and and my pc has a sub out, for you whats the best bass quality, should i insert it to sub out from dbs or to my pc’s sub out? Nice review btw greetings from ph 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
You can try either or since u have the option. But I think if u use the edifier sub out, it'll sort their own crossover frequency better
@@CheeseOnEverything thankyou boss! Will do 🫡
Hi sir! Last question if ever i will add another pair of r128dbs will it improve the sound what i mean is will it be louder and crisper than using 1 pair of r128dbs? Will definitely appreciate your response
Itll just give you more coverage if you have a big area. Sound quality wouldn't be any different cuz they're not built for surround sound.
Hello!! what do you recommend for turntable, 1280dbs or r1700bt? thanks a lot
1280dbs
Thanks for the reply, are there any particulars why? I really appreciate man thanks for the response
Just because of the sub out feature
2:17 Huh? The audioengine's are twice the price of these
Not when u include the sub
@@CheeseOnEverything You didn't specify that in the video and it's hardly fair to compare satellite speakers with a sub against just a pair of satellite speakers. I've always thought the Audioengine A2+ are overpriced and these Edifiers basically prove that because the Edifiers have bigger woofers, deeper bass, more power AND they include a remote-all for half the price of the Audioengines
to be honest, i just bought the T5 subwoofer but i find it Really anoying that it makes so much noice at the blowing hole. is there anyway it can be reduced, even at low volume you can here it.
I tuned mine down to compliment the speakers. It's a really powerful sub, so no need to turn it up too high
Is there a difference in sound between Edifier R1280db and R1280dbs? (playing without a subwoofer) was kept exactly the same sound quality as the R1280db? I want the R1280dbs but with the same classic quality as the R1280db, without taking or putting anything on the sound.
It's the same if u don't use a sub, but they fixed a lot of bugs like the remote not working from the first gen
I have been using the R1280dbs for 2 months. When I connect it to the tv using the optical cable the bass seems to overpower the treble and sounds muddy. When connect it to the tv headphone jack, it sounds perfect. Not sure whether this is caused by tv or the speaker itself.
Like I said in the video, I had weird minor issues with my optical port as well.
@@CheeseOnEverything By the way, have you tested it with other optical cable besides the one provided.
Yup, still had the small popping noises
@@CheeseOnEverything Thanks so much for the info. Guess i will just stick to the rca as it sounds good anyway.
Your welcome, I did the same. Don't hear any differences.
So I first used edifier rt1850s I now own s2000pros s3000 pros airpulse 300s and the t5
Any good for watch movie?
Yeah great for movies
Even without the subs?
Won't sound as good without it for sure. These speakers are lacking a bit of low end
Any other subwoofer option aside from T5? Not available here in ph
anything works really, just make sure they're powered subs.
@@CheeseOnEverything Thank you so much!
Nope
After buying and using the jabra elite 75t, I have come to notice how "unclean" my logitech z623's are; the vocals aren't very clear sadly. How would the bass on that sub/speaker set compare to the z623s?
I wouldn't know because I dont have the z623s
hi mate quick question. i have edifier r1280db with no sub output, is there any possible that i can connect it to subwoofer?
U can try splitting the regular 3.5 from the source but I don't think it'll sound as clean
@@CheeseOnEverything I can see that T5 has input and output. is it possible to connect source to T5 input and then T5 output to r1280db input?
Could do it that way as well
@@CheeseOnEverything I spoke now with my audiofil friend and he told me that even better is to connect source to R1289DB and output for left speaker to connect to woofer input and from woofer output to left speaker ("go through" woofer). He said that's the correct way if woofer supports it, and this one does.
Hi! Thanks for the video. I have the old model, and would consider upgrading if the new bluetooth chip supports multiple simultaneous connections (which the old model does not). Do you happen to know if this is possible now?
Do u mean if u have multiple phones connected to it that it plays from both?
@@CheeseOnEverything Well, more like both of them paired at the same time, so that you don’t have to manually disconnect one of the phones to be able to play on the other. Most new BT headphones have this option, which is great whenever you have multiple playback devices
Just tried it on two phones (s7 edge and s20+), when you want to switch devices, u still have to hold the Bluetooth button on the remote to switch between the two. But because the device is saved, u don't have to go thru the process of pairing it again
Hey, can I ask how you connect the sub? Was it a single RCA subwoofer cable from sub out to LFE in the sub?
It's a conversion cable with a 3.5mm headphone jack on one side from the speaker's sub out port to the sub's rca ports (red and white) on the other.
@@CheeseOnEverything awesome thanks
The wire is included btw
@@CheeseOnEverything Great, thanks again. Just ordered a pair! See how they go! I was torn between these and s360db with included sub. I'm hoping that if I can hook the r1280DBs to my own sub then I can get overall better sound than the s360db. Also, the r1280dbs come in black, have more inputs and have Bluetooth 5.0. Cheers.
@@CheeseOnEverything does the sub come with that cable ? because the speakers do but you need that to use from the speakers to the computer right ?
How do you connect speakers with subwoofer t5?
It comes with a headphone jack to rca cable
@@CheeseOnEverything thanks
I HAVE THE 1280dbs speakers im thinking to buy the klipsch R 100sw or this edifier t5 which one is better for the edifier 180dbs
Probably the t5 as it'll have better crossover.
Can i have yours?
I had same pop issue on diffrent Edifier speakers. Didnt find any resolution tho, just switched to jack :)
I know I'm a bit late but the reason for that might be the T5 sub. It goes into sleep mode after 5mins of no singnal and that pop sound might be just the sound of the sub turning back on. I don't have this issue on R1855Db without a sub connected via optical.
@@MrCamill99 Naaaah - the issue accured regulary while switching media on pc etc.
Anyway, I gave my Edifiers to my parents and now im rocking NAD amp with Indiana Line speakers.
No review here. Why?
Dunno what you're expecting, I already stated a lot of things you need to know. I don't bother doing sound tests cuz they're completely useless when you're hearing it on your own speakers.
I cant find the r1280dbS in black anywhere :(
They are a hot item right now. Might have to wait unfortunately.
@@CheeseOnEverything yeah i think i have to wait a little longer. I know they are available in the US but in my country (the Netherlands) i can only find the wood colour)
What non edifier subwoofer do you recommend to use with it?
I would personally use the same brand to get the best crossover frequency.
Great review! I just picked up the DBSs a couple weeks ago and really love them, though would like a bit more low-end. I've been looking at the T5 and LOVE that price, but as an audio noob, I'm not clear on how the connections work. Is it just a 3.5mm from the sub-out on the powered speaker to rca in on the sub? Thanks!
Yup, u got it! They even provide the cable to go from 3.5 to the left and right RCA ports.
Thank you both for the question and response. I just got a set of these speakers myself and was curious if I needed to do anything special besides connect that cable to a subwoofer.
@@CheeseOnEverything does the sub come with that cable ? because the speakers do but you need that to use from the speakers to the computer right ?
Any suitable subwoofer other than T5 for this? Do i need active or passive subwoofer?
I would advise an active sub to go with this set. Maybe check the edifier website for another sub?
In my country 1280dbs and 1700dbs are just 10 bucks away. And if I pair it with T5, it equals the price of the s350db.
Should I just take s350 out of the equation and go for r1700dbs +T5?
Yeah thats why I got this combo instead. The 350 comes with pretty small satellite speakers and the port is also on the back so you won't get as direct of a sound as the 1280 or the 1700.
@@CheeseOnEverything alrighty, im sold! Thank you! ❤😄
this really best budget speaker monitor?
For what you're getting, yeah.
they sound clear enough for music mixing? or making music?
If you're doing audio mixing, I'd suggest way more expensive speakers
