    One film that blows my mind even on repeat viewing. Space Odyssey is a template for sci fi films to date. But none come close except Nolan. To achieve what Kubrick did back then when we hadn’t even landed on the moon is beyond remarkable.

    Took me 3 times watching the film and reading the book to finally understand the meaning of this movie. The monolith is an ancient artifact sent by a higher intelligence to aid humans walk towards evolution, and we can see this fact with the apes inventing tools and with Bowman's transformation into the starchild. There is even more info about them in the novels written after 2001 as sequels, so I invite you to read them to discover the true nature of the higher intelligence behind the artifacts.
