I worked in a homeless shelter and one guy told me “everyone is one bad decision away from being homeless”. So very true.
It's not 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@prevaloir5362 I have never done heroin but you should try that just once if you don’t believe in being one bad decision from homelessness.
@@burberryducks6481 Trying heroin isn't one bad decision.
@@burberryducks6481 i mean i know people who have done it, some kept a job and worked hard is weird how the mind works
@@prevaloir5362 I disagree.
This is so heartbreaking. My niece stumbled on this and noticed her older brother in it. The guy at the end of the video, the cook is my nephew. My sister hasn't heard from him in months since his dad passed away. He struggles with severe mental illness and addiction. He disappears sometimes for years at a time and my sister doesn't know if he is dead or alive. She checks jail rosters regularly looking for his name. Sometimes that's the only way for us to know that he is still alive. The tears in my sister's eyes when she showed me this video of how her son is living and his mental state just broke my heart.
I am so sorry to hear that, praying for you and your family❤
Can't anyone do a wellness check on him and tdo 5150 him until he stabilized. He seemed to be around meth addicts and other mentally ill ppl, it can get very dangerous dealing with a mentally ill person that is on drugs as well, you have to trap them
@@shable1436 help cannot be forced upon people. there's only so much anyone can do. not saying its completely their fault that they're in that mess, it many times is the product of child abuse, but you cant give your life to help someone else you also have to look out for yourself. my moms friend suffers from alcoholism and we and mental health issues, want to help her but she isn't accepting it so we cant do anything for her.
Heartbreaking 💔 is there no one that can reach out to him
omg im so sorry this must be so heartbreaking. i’m praying for you and your family!!
Travis one of the first guys in the video is my dad. I haven’t seen or heard from him in 11 years, glad to hear his voice. ❤
Wow that's crazy
What the hell, really?
That man who lost his luggage and ID tore at my heart strings. Same with the guy with a black hat. It’s heartbreaking what rock bottom can really be like for some people.
Fire emblem is trash indeed
Travis: “I was born here” Tommy: “ what in the tunnels” 😂😂
“No in New Orleans” 😂😂
When the grid goes down, so do the drugs. Lol he will last 48 hours.

@@a2dskins sounds like he got to you with that one bud lmaooo
@@a2dskins damn bro you really owned this dude who lives in a tunnel. to be clear im being sarcastic and you sound pathetic
the lady with the cat literally broke my heart, imagine being homeless not even being able to feed urself but still making sure u feed something else. so sweet
You'd be surprised how well kept many of their pets are. Extreme animal rights group in some European country were trying to take a homeless persons dog and the community got up in arms to get it back for them. Taking care of those pets is what keeps many of these people going.
@@PepsiMan666 really?? thank god people stood up for them!!
A cat can never be kept where it doesn’t want to be, she’s putting the cat first and that’s why it stays with her.
😢
If it’s one thing I’ve noticed living in a low income/crime ridden area my whole life is that meth users/ heroin users treat there animals and take care of them better than anyone else you could Imagine , I have yet to see a starving dog who belongs to a homeless drug user
The irony of this story is compelling. On the one hand you see the homeless live underground trying to make ends meet and battle with the uncertainty of their environment. On the other hand, above ground you know that lavish casinos abound where money is thrown around slot machines, table games, bars like money is not an object. Life is so unfair.
I cant believe this comment hasn't got more likes!
Allah is,and soon we all be back to him for justice “ fair and equal “
Life can be unfair but nobody is holding these people from not being able to also "throw money around in a casino" but themselves. There's plenty of resources especially in Las Vegas. Also did you not see all the numbers she had written on the wall all different resources like the one that says shine a light that's a non-profit organization the specifically goes down there to those tunnels and offers people a way out
As someone who is currently homeless. I've said if anything ever goes down we are the ones who are built to survive. I've been outside sleeping when it's 16degrees, sweltering Texas summers too. You'd be surprised how you adapt. I have a full time job too! Also I'm not a junkie, just fell on hard times. I'm getting back on my feet thought it's just taking time.
Praying for you 🙏 God bless you stay strong 🙏❤️ blessings are coming your way.
KEEP MOVING YOU GOT THIS 💯
Praying for you man.

Dang dude, Tommy was so soft spoken and caring that he almost seemed to be playing a character. He was able to talk to so many people because he came off as so inviting.
That's Tommy.
@TheKimberlydw isn’t there a difference between using caring for the sake of caring,
and doing what Louie Theroux does (acts caring, while framing his subject as ultimately wrong, misguided, or not acceptable.)
@@Americansikkunt Louis theroux is the legend of all legends watch your mouth

"We breathe the same air, we bleed the same blood, and we all die the same." Said by the guy at 13:50. I like that.

Damn…
Weird flex but ok
@@mr.sophistication1654 what's that mean?
That's wild smh
@@JennaB5150 seems odd to brag about that is all
One thing I find really interesting about these videos is that when u ask other people what to do about the homeless situation they usually reply “take them off the streets and give these people homes”, however when you ask someone who’s actually homeless they respond like the gentleman at 11:00 “give us jobs, give us ids”
It really shows the difference in perspective. People who arent in that situation are more inclined to think about immediately temporary solutions, while those living the problme are thinking of things that can help them long term.
It's so true. And often if you look in to getting a job or an ID you will have trouble getting it if you don't have an address associated with your name in that state. Sadly this vicious cycle is one of the major conundrums that the homeless population faces
Yet in Utah, our housing first policy actually works better than just giving them jobs?
And Utah is not known for being a liberal state.
Housing is not a quick fix, it takes years to build, and years to fund.
It's the long term solution these people need, because I've known too many of the working homeless to think that a job will actually solve these issues writ large, because if it was, it already would've since we have the lowest unemployment in the longest time.
@ethanstump On average, homelessness in Utah has remained pretty steady since 2005 (which is when Utah adopted its housing first policy). So no, I wouldn't say Utah's housing first policy is a real success story.
@@Voxphyle are you talking about total, or per capita, since our population has increased by 50% since 2000.
of course, we are no finland, but literally being sandwiched between two of the largest population center's (cali and texas) means that we have had to focus greatly on housing, yet because of geography we can't really sprawl, and while that's great for density and affordability in the long run, it requires a higher amount of capital upfront. there's a lot of reasons as to why SLC is more expensive than many people give it credit for, and that means that actually housing the homeless often is such a contentious issue, because housing itself is pretty difficult here even if your a normal working stiff.
what are you comparing it to?

The homeless guy with the black cap"hat" is so articulate and smart and really understands what's going on and how to help people and how to live without help that man I feel like might just need a little bit of a really positive change and he could do a lot for this world that man is actually very smart.

He's 45??? Damn man I'm 43 and he looks like he could be my dad. Thats a HARD life I wish all of these people peace and well being especially since I've been a heroin addict and came EXTREMELY CLOSE to this exact life and have had 12 friends die from drugs, a couple murdered, one raped and murdered and many who are now homeless. By a literal miracle i turned my life around and now I own my own small business. I like these type of videos the most. Real life, real journalism
Went from A prankster to journalist. I love it
I was homeless and I've gotta say...the laws and community make so much more sense than modern society. It's so extremely simple and way more cohesive. I've always said and maintain if everything went to crap I will always choose to work with the homeless and addicts. They're the real survivors
Edit: Want to mention that due to this type of society, that homeless lady was in fact more safe in the tunnels under the city than in the high rise above the city
Thanks for this documentary guys. These guys made my day, their kindness and humility is very inspiring ❤

I live in Vegas, and I'm pretty sure I've seen that guy that was cooking walk down the road before, was yelling and swinging the sticks around. Interesting guy haha. Great video about these people, always really interesting to hear their stories, a lot of things to learn about what not to do to help prevent getting in these situations, obviously not 100% their fault though. Gotta say though living in the tunnels is very dangerous, when it rains here, a lot of the time flash floods happen, and the drains are basically a river for a good amount of time.
I lived in Vegas in the mid to late 90's. It literally rained one time in the 3 yrs I lived there. Rained 1/4 inch in about 20 mins. This past year I saw at least twice that it rained and flooded like crazy. When I first moved there, I had just turned 21. Saw a ton of people laying in the park on Maryland Pkwy covered in white sheets, 116 degrees out in Aug. I told my ex, something bad happened at the park, there are tons of dead people covered in sheets. He laughed at me and said they are homeless not dead. I was so nieve when I moved there.
I run a Rehabilitation program in Texas. I was up in Vegas 7 years ago and was living on the streets and finally got caught up and sent to prison. When I got out I had to get out of there because I know the cycle was easy to get back into. I lost my uncle Travis in there and I saw this video of him on RUclips and he was on there
All of these people seem like such upstanding people! It's so upsetting seeing how they live or some even choose to live. The gentleman around 14:00 is motivational and have an extremely calming voice, this man could make it somewhere!
Thanks Tommy and crew for taking a huge risk to let me see and try to understand this way of life. It sure straitened me up to be happy for the little bit of what I have. This definitely shows it could be a hell of a lot worse. ✌️

We were on a bachelor party trip in vegas over ten years ago. My brother and i met this girl on the strip, jenni lee. She drove us around vegas and she was such a sweetheart. Very pretty too. She insisted on giving us each a hundred bucks to gamble with. It wasnt until one of our friends recognized her from her adult films that she was in that we found out she was jenni lee. She was in a documentary of los vegas tunnel people recently and it broke my heart.
So much respect for these people. I wish the ones with drug problems were offered help if they want it, and anyone who wanted a way out was offered a clear avenue for it, but even with the drugs, most of the people interviewed seemed like genuine, kind, loving people anyone could learn a lot from.
Man such real people, my heart is being pulled, it just is what it is. I feel the sin of omission ringing clear, because I know there's things I could do to help. Forget what I haven't done so far, that won't help anyone. Dude, your videos are beginning to humble me bro, I mean I'm not elevated by any means, but I mean I'm beginning to want to find practical ways to help them. I fish, I hunt, I camp, I garden, I do many things. But a fish or a deer, a campsite, sure it all felt good and nice, but they weren't worthwhile hobbies. I'd rather help people than do what I've always done. Ya, people need help. Keep showing where these people are okay, cause I wouldn't have known where to look prior to these videos. Keep giving out beer and cigarettes, people need that. Keep hearing their stories. Keep inspiring. Keep it up, please!😌

I work hard as fuck for my money and my family, but I will give whatever I can, whenever I can. I've been homeless and my mum IS homeless right now.
I'll never understand the level of judgement people have for someone who's lost everything and is now living on the streets fighting to survive.
I hate working in a rich ass neighbourhood and I'm the young lad on minimum wage buying a pie and water for the old lad doing it rough. I wish more people gave back.
Appreciate you Tommy! These people are dope.

Straight From the Streets was founded by Linda Lera who is a family member. My son and his wife and Linda went down to the tunnels to make a documentary. Linda at that time was the only person allowed down there by the mole people because she helped them so much! It was her passion. The non profit is still going on despite her death.
