The homeless guy with the black cap"hat" is so articulate and smart and really understands what's going on and how to help people and how to live without help that man I feel like might just need a little bit of a really positive change and he could do a lot for this world that man is actually very smart.
One thing I find really interesting about these videos is that when u ask other people what to do about the homeless situation they usually reply “take them off the streets and give these people homes”, however when you ask someone who’s actually homeless they respond like the gentleman at 11:00 “give us jobs, give us ids” It really shows the difference in perspective. People who arent in that situation are more inclined to think about immediately temporary solutions, while those living the problme are thinking of things that can help them long term.
It's so true. And often if you look in to getting a job or an ID you will have trouble getting it if you don't have an address associated with your name in that state. Sadly this vicious cycle is one of the major conundrums that the homeless population faces
Yet in Utah, our housing first policy actually works better than just giving them jobs? And Utah is not known for being a liberal state. Housing is not a quick fix, it takes years to build, and years to fund. It's the long term solution these people need, because I've known too many of the working homeless to think that a job will actually solve these issues writ large, because if it was, it already would've since we have the lowest unemployment in the longest time.
@ethanstump On average, homelessness in Utah has remained pretty steady since 2005 (which is when Utah adopted its housing first policy). So no, I wouldn't say Utah's housing first policy is a real success story.
@@Voxphyle are you talking about total, or per capita, since our population has increased by 50% since 2000. of course, we are no finland, but literally being sandwiched between two of the largest population center's (cali and texas) means that we have had to focus greatly on housing, yet because of geography we can't really sprawl, and while that's great for density and affordability in the long run, it requires a higher amount of capital upfront. there's a lot of reasons as to why SLC is more expensive than many people give it credit for, and that means that actually housing the homeless often is such a contentious issue, because housing itself is pretty difficult here even if your a normal working stiff. what are you comparing it to?

Thats a HARD life I wish all of these people peace and well being especially since I've been a heroin addict and came EXTREMELY CLOSE to this exact life and have had 12 friends die from drugs, a couple murdered, one raped and murdered and many who are now homeless. By chance, I discovered your video on Slab City while trying to show my friend what it was like there. I visited two years ago when I visited the USA. I found your video to be really well made. Entertaining but also interesting and empathetic. Having watched a few more, I’m really impressed by your content. It’s great to watch and such an interesting and unbiased take on parts of society we don’t see very often and/or are typically looked down on. Subscribed.
All of these people seem like such upstanding people! It's so upsetting seeing how they live or some even choose to live. The gentleman around 14:00 is motivational and have an extremely calming voice, this man could make it somewhere!
I've been homeless before and could say we all do stick by each other for the most part. It's really tough to get out of it but luckily, I had family to help me. It still feels real bad seeing all those people in the tunnels.

I was homeless and I've gotta say...the laws and community make so much more sense than modern society. It's so extremely simple and way more cohesive. I've always said and maintain if everything went to crap I will always choose to work with the homeless and addicts. They're the real survivors Edit: Want to mention that due to this type of society, that homeless lady was in fact more safe in the tunnels under the city than in the high rise above the city

ID’s and showers. So many people overlook this…”they should get a job there’s so many places hiring”. But they have no ID, their presentation isn’t “up to par”, they don’t have a address… it’s never as easy as people may think it is… and they should be thankful how great their life is that they can’t even understand someone with a lower quality of life.
This thank you Tommy… this one real tugs on some heartstrings. We all take so much for granted. Including this country itself. I really loved hearing each of their stories, their perspectives. I run a Rehabilitation program in Texas. I was up in Vegas 7 years ago and was living on the streets and finally got caught up and sent to prison. When I got out I had to get out of there because I know the cycle was easy to get back into. I lost my uncle Travis in there and I saw this video of him on RUclips and he was on there
This is the first Tommy G video ive seen and ngl I was expecting the worst from the intro. I was pleasently surprised to see how compassionate and respectful he and everyone with him was. I actually live in vegas and knew nothing about the tunnels, love the video
My dad is going through the same things as the people in this video and I’ve now heard things from his side which I never have before. Thank you for opening my eyes.
We were on a bachelor party trip in vegas over ten years ago. My brother and i met this girl on the strip, jenni lee. She drove us around vegas and she was such a sweetheart. Very pretty too. She insisted on giving us each a hundred bucks to gamble with. It wasnt until one of our friends recognized her from her adult films that she was in that we found out she was jenni lee. She was in a documentary of los vegas tunnel people recently and it broke my heart.
The dude that was showing them around said “I don’t drink I haven’t drank in 20 years” then proceeds to drink a natty light I love it😂 great video btw Tommy
Man such real people, my heart is being pulled, it just is what it is. I feel the sin of omission ringing clear, because I know there's things I could do to help. Forget what I haven't done so far, that won't help anyone. Dude, your videos are beginning to humble me bro, I mean I'm not elevated by any means, but I mean I'm beginning to want to find practical ways to help them. I fish, I hunt, I camp, I garden, I do many things. But a fish or a deer, a campsite, sure it all felt good and nice, but they weren't worthwhile hobbies. I'd rather help people than do what I've always done. Ya, people need help. Keep showing where these people are okay, cause I wouldn't have known where to look prior to these videos. Keep giving out beer and cigarettes, people need that. Keep hearing their stories. Keep inspiring. Keep it up, please!😌
Straight From the Streets was founded by Linda Lera who is a family member. My son and his wife and Linda went down to the tunnels to make a documentary. Linda at that time was the only person allowed down there by the mole people because she helped them so much! It was her passion. The non profit is still going on despite her death.
I'm 24 living on Gold Coast, Australia. I rolled up on some old homeless dudes with some drinks one afternoon just to see if they would let me chill and chat some shit with em. Hands down, some of the best blokes I've ever met. This one fella, Andy, became homeless when his wife died. I don't think I've ever met a more caring, loving and happy dude. But his story near brings me to tears every time. I love Tommy for this shit. No one ever cares enough for the homeless. I work hard as fuck for my money and my family, but I will give whatever I can, whenever I can. I've been homeless and my mum IS homeless right now. I'll never understand the level of judgement people have for someone who's lost everything and is now living on the streets fighting to survive. I hate working in a rich ass neighbourhood and I'm the young lad on minimum wage buying a pie and water for the old lad doing it rough. I wish more people gave back. Appreciate you Tommy! These people are dope.
There was a time in the 90’s and early 2000’s when the tunnels were an amazing place to discover, before the homeless took it over. It was a place where people from all over the world would come to paint. It was dope. Me and my friends started the tunnel yard. Find the spray paint can holding a joint and you’ll see the first piece

I live in Vegas, and I'm pretty sure I've seen that guy that was cooking walk down the road before, was yelling and swinging the sticks around. Interesting guy haha. Great video about these people, always really interesting to hear their stories, a lot of things to learn about what not to do to help prevent getting in these situations, obviously not 100% their fault though. Gotta say though living in the tunnels is very dangerous, when it rains here, a lot of the time flash floods happen, and the drains are basically a river for a good amount of time.
I lived in Vegas in the mid to late 90's. It literally rained one time in the 3 yrs I lived there. Rained 1/4 inch in about 20 mins. This past year I saw at least twice that it rained and flooded like crazy. When I first moved there, I had just turned 21. Saw a ton of people laying in the park on Maryland Pkwy covered in white sheets, 116 degrees out in Aug. I told my ex, something bad happened at the park, there are tons of dead people covered in sheets. He laughed at me and said they are homeless not dead. I was so nieve when I moved there.
I love these people! Being honest about their addictions and humble enough to allow outsiders to interview them in the first place. The disease of addiction is very sad, but these folks seem to always make it through. The guy at 14:30 is very wise. I love that he acknowledged God, America and equality. God bless all them seriously. Come as you are, that's what Jesus said. This place isn't our home and we all must endure.
Gotta be honest, whenever I see these "documentaries" about homeless, I always get worried. There has been so many channels that do this n are so damn disrespectful, even if they don't mean it or know they are. They use these people n their situations as a way to make money and grow their channel. But thankfully, you n your guys did it right. From what we saw you were respectful and seemed really caring. Thank you so much for that. I have been homeless many times, n you'll never know just how hard they live until you're in their shoes. Again, thank you for being respectful and caring. I appreciate you.
This video had me tearing up.. nobody deserves to live like this. Hearing how depressing their life is makes me realize how much we take for granted. “I hate being hated”😢😢😢. It so sad how society looks at homeless people. They are all humans who are struggling🥺. This life isn’t easy and it makes me so sad how judged they are when they are just people who are struggling to make it in this world. So sad I pray for all of them 🥺💗
Great video bro! Watching from inside the car I live in. Very blessed to have this car, as My girl and I were sleeping on a play set at a public park with no job no financial help. Finding a job was difficult and took about a month, I’m very happy to be working now and have a car that runs and protects my girlfriend and I from the elements. I’m definitely not outta the woods yet, I have to keep grinding at work and on my dream. I do not do drugs or commit crimes or do bad shit. I think people would treat homeless better if they understood how easily it could also happen to them. Most people will never have an actual understanding of it until it happens to them or they witness it. Also you’re not screwed if you’re homeless and have no help. it might not be up to you how long you’re out there but what is up to you, is wether or not you give up!
It's nice to have a car to live in, I'm in mine with my GF and dog. If I loose this and the girl, a hammock looks the par. Grab a camo one and hide in the forest, easy here in Canada. I can't see the light, no "home" in sight for me. Glad you got something to aim for, go get it love your dream.

Vegas Resident for over 30 years. Yes, we know about the people under the tunnels. There are homeless tunnel communities all over Vegas. Not just the famous ( Mole People ) one near the strip you are filming. Tunnel System 2 - Goto Flamingo and Maryland - there is a wash that collects water around some very cheap apartments. System 3 - is another near the Swap Meet in North Las Vegas. System 4 - Paradise under what used to be hard Rock Hotel now Virgin Hotel? Parking Lot. These are the ones I personally walked through living here for 30 plus years, you find them by accident. For instance, you are walking - but want to take a short cut ( get off the sidewalks, cut through places ) - then suddenly! you are in a homeless camp. If Tourist - stay where they want you -you will be OK, unless at Fremont Street Experience - where they are everywhere.

The homeless guy with the black cap"hat" is so articulate and smart and really understands what's going on and how to help people and how to live without help that man I feel like might just need a little bit of a really positive change and he could do a lot for this world that man is actually very smart.
They're all homeless
Thats Tommy?
Seriously though, I'm sure people relate more to that guy than they do the people that try to tell them how to live/eat/sleep.
Black * raises fist *
Lol @ “actually”
One thing I find really interesting about these videos is that when u ask other people what to do about the homeless situation they usually reply “take them off the streets and give these people homes”, however when you ask someone who’s actually homeless they respond like the gentleman at 11:00 “give us jobs, give us ids”
It really shows the difference in perspective.
I planned to tune in quickly to watch for a couple mins just to get an idea and move on. Ended up watching every second. You so effortlessly are able to get on a level with others that makes them instantly feel comfortable around you and able to open up. I’ve been riding with him ever since, dude has a heart of gold and I’m sad I didn’t see it back then. Love you, dude! Keep on keeping on

Thats a HARD life I wish all of these people peace and well being especially since I've been a heroin addict and came EXTREMELY CLOSE to this exact life and have had 12 friends die from drugs, a couple murdered, one raped and murdered and many who are now homeless. By a literal miracle i turned my life around and now I own my own small business. Appreciate every day you get on this earth and just try to push through the hard times and hopefully light will be at the end of the tunnel

Yeah man meth is brutal. Ages you all fast, fucks your brain up. It’s soo cheap. A lot of these people are so fried from it, they are down for the life they are living. I used to use crack and meth. Both are devastating
@@purp2883 you act as if your so surprised that he’s 45 and looks a lot older , if anything you should understand especially with you saying you used to do herion, I mean living on the streets not being able to take a shower or eat on a regular basis or get a goodnights sleep and being exposed to extreme heat and cold will eventually take a toll on a person
@Pr0BLeM? that’s your opinion
@Pr0BLeM? What proof do you have that God isn't real. The fact you exist on earth that's floating in space, have a brain that's equivalent to a quantum computer and the ability to live your life how you want is proof that God is real. I am curious what you believe though. Are you agnostic or atheist?
tommy is real for giving these people a voice and giving us insight to their situations.
For his own profit and brings them beer. You really think helping them is bringing them fucking beer?

I was homeless and I've gotta say...the laws and community make so much more sense than modern society. It's so extremely simple and way more cohesive. I've always said and maintain if everything went to crap I will always choose to work with the homeless and addicts. They're the real survivors
Edit: Want to mention that due to this type of society, that homeless lady was in fact more safe in the tunnels under the city than in the high rise above the city

The jungle cats, the tour guide, entire the underground community. There is something wholesome about everyone of the people in this video.

You’re such a good man. I know y’all being there, spending time with them, cracking jokes, asking them questions and listening to them talk.. all while being respectful, probably made their whole month!
The articulate fellow who still puts up an American flag even though he doesn't have a house. Living in a tunnel underground and proud of the country he's from.

13:43 This guy spoke so genuinely about the reality that few people seem to be aware of. Society may seem more civilized, but it's only gotten more divided.
thank you for being respectful, I appreciate that you get consent and not exploiting a vulnerable group. You just got yourself a new subscriber.
The fact that the homeless population is dehumanized and it was very principled of you to give the voiceless a voice without narrating a story for them. Medical expenses should not be a factor of becoming homeless. This community has more morals than elites and politicians. Thank you.
I don’t know how I stumbled upon this video but the one with the yellow shirt on that was cooking steak and rambling on about nonsense is my older brother and I haven’t heard or talked to him in a really long time and seeing this hurt. he’s broken, he lost his self, he isn’t angry he just is misunderstood everybody betrayed him and he has nothing left he has been fighting so hard and i understand people want views and everything but i know my brother he’s so smart he’s amazing, he’s a good person and these drugs did nothing but harm him and make him go crazy, Erik is an amazing person deep down beyond all this nonsense i’m crying so hard rn this broke my heart so much

We were on a bachelor party trip in vegas over ten years ago. My brother and i met this girl on the strip, jenni lee. She drove us around vegas and she was such a sweetheart. Very pretty too.
Just came across your channel and this video. Impressed by your respect for these people and your compassion. Good documentary, good people. 👍
Straight From the Streets was founded by Linda Lera who is a family member. My son and his wife and Linda went down to the tunnels to make a documentary. Thanks for this documentary guys. These guys made my day, their kindness and humility is very inspiring ❤
I'm 24 living on Gold Coast, Australia. I rolled up on some old homeless dudes with some drinks one afternoon just to see if they would let me chill and chat some shit with em.

There was a time in the 90’s and early 2000’s when the tunnels were an amazing place to discover, before the homeless took it over. It was a place where people from all over the world would come to paint. It was dope. Me and my friends started the tunnel yard. That’s sick I wanna hear more about that painting down there was probably sick probably throw ups from the 90s down there

The lady with the degree hurts real bad because it shows that even with college education and your life on track it can always go to shit

Faith and hope will always keep us afloat even when it may seem we are sinking. Keep your head up bro! God bless 🙏

Remember your situation could always be worse than what it is
Vegas Resident for over 30 years.
There's also the "wash" in the Henderson nv

I was in Vegas in august and it flooded really bad. I witnessed it first hand. Vegas isn't used to heavy down pours and when it does it can get crazy first. The flooding in august killed a few in the tunnels. I wish I could upload the photos and videos I have of the flood when I was there in August.
I have the feeling this channel is going to grow exponentially in the coming months.
What a legend. The ending really shows his heart. These people have nothing. Yet they let you into the only safe place they have left.
