    I don’t mean to criticize, or seem envious. it’s been amazing to watch your RUclips journey over the years, and the success it’s brought into your lives....You deserve every bit of it.
    I need to say this though....
    I was originally drawn to this channel because it promotes tools and skills that are obtainable by the common working man. I think it’s safe to say that a very small percentage of the population can afford something such as a brand new diesel hydraulic wood processor. Most of us probably couldn’t even afford the parts to maintain or repair it. I think we have to be realistic here.
    Me personally, I would like to see a more in-depth video on the drip torch. Safe use and practices with it. What not to do etc. Simpler things like that are invaluable to someone like me....especially when it’s delivered by a knowledgeable and experienced person like you.....on just about any tool.
    Thank you to whoever took the time to read my comment. I know you probably don’t have much spare time.
    Much love to the Wranglerstar family!

    I’m not wizard or anything. But not renting, but say that was yours and you owned it, you could set bars on the side that are like a spring type loaded? Like the 14inch cuts on each that stop bar. But like on the sides that would allow you to have bigger and smaller pieces without having to manually use them. But it would be something that “you” or anyone who owned thoes would have to make.

    Possible fix for the splitting issue. The manufacturer could install a "holding platform" for the round once it's cut. They could make it concave so as to cradle the round. A lever at the control panel could connect to this platform, which acts as a trap door. The round falls onto the hydraulic ram path, oriented properly.

  • @willierants5880
    @willierants5880 3 года назад +3

    8:10 My thoughts on a solution is for the next version to have a catch basket that supports the end of the log while being cut and once the cut is complete will open to drop the cut off down in the proper orientation. The drawback is added cost and complexity.

    • @8Jory
      @8Jory 2 года назад

      Just make that little orange rod a bit stiffer and it should help a lot to stop the log from pivoting forward.
      The problem appears to come from the wood hinging on the last few attached fibres as he said. If the top end of the round was prevented from dropping too far then it shouldn't flip on end. There's a balance that needs to be found there somewhere between the logs getting flipped with a floppy stop, and pinching the saw with a stop that's too rigid.

    20 cords in a day!?! That is impressive as I rented one for 8 hours and ran it as hard as I could and didn't get 10 cords. The machines are absolutely great but I experienced the same problems with the harvester bar not having enough pressure and dulling chains constantly. I made a video about it too if you're curious. Thanks for supporting your community!

      He went from 35 cords total to 35 in a day to 20 cords total. It sounds like he was busy that day and not paying close attention to the actual numbers. My dad and I process and sell firewood and we have done 12 cords in a day including delivery. If you had nice big straight logs like Cody had and had someone keeping the deck loaded and you didn't have to worry about delivery I think 20 cords in a day is reasonable.

  • @Sp19536

    There is a hydraulic adjustment to change the cutting speed. It’s a knob you turn to make it have more down pressure on the cutting bar. If I remember correctly its behind the control table. The harvester chain is perfect for the machine. Of course the chain has to be sharp to cut properly.

    CAT in my opinion is hands down the best Diesel built! It’s sad that they no longer make engines for commercial trucks for on road use. They got tired of trying to keep up on ever changing emission laws. They said the laws are so stringent that they could not make a reliable and well functioning engine for the consumer. They still make them for heavy equipment and commercial grade off road machines obviously. I appreciate your work.

    @wranglerstar, why not try a slightly longer cut to see if it falls correctly or weld two temp bars in so it has to drop correctly. I could see an improvement on not only a bigger bar with more power but two bars so when one is down the other keeps going

  • @MarkRVillano

    That machine is a beast! As far as the dull chains causing the cutoffs to flip sideways; would a short, two or three inch wide, curved piece of metal, angled downward and directly underneath the piece being cut, prevent that from happening, by sort of funneling the cut down into that crib?
    I like the way that one hand washed the other with you and Dyna, and that in the process you were able to provide much needed fuel for so many homes. That's real community building!

    The bar saw should be replaced with a circular saw, but that’s a much higher risk when hitting metal.
    I work for a logging company that uses a firewood processor with a smaller circular saw as well as larger circular saw slashers for the grapple cranes for processing logs in the wood yard. I’ve been told that a loose tooth coming off of the slasher blade (4-5 ft diameter) has the same force as a 9mm hand gun round.

    Honestly to stop big logs from turning sideway you only need to add some kind of solid bar in place of that orange thingy. When the log is cut nearly all the way, round would try to rotate, top would hit the bar, and it would only fall after log is cut all the way trough.

  • @aljohnson1439

    You need a guide type stop right next to the switch that stops the advance stroke. it would hold the log from tipping over until the entire cut was accomplished . Then the cutoff would drop straight down. You would have to make it adjustable until you arrived at a position that would work for all types and sizes of rounds.

  • @michaelwieninger8984
    @michaelwieninger8984 2 года назад

    My opinion to reduce the wood turning sideways after the cut, have a solid stop for the wood as it enters the machine. With a solid stop verses the stop rod the stick is not able to pivot downward but instead it will stay level until the cut is finished and then drop straight down. Simple!

  • @chrismate2805
    @chrismate2805 3 года назад

    Impressive machine.....Idea
    1-Maybe you can work/try on a selution for the fall off the cutoff, by adding some sort of a V-shaped sturcture in such a way it guides the cutoff down gently keeping it orientated, maybe two wooden planks at 1st, just thought.
    2-Something I though about before is if manufascturers can put your serviceble filters mounted in a seperate cabinate maring it "service" you open a door, and their are all your filters, just a thought.

  • @ChristopherBuono

    Great machine Mr. Wranglerstar , as for the pieces that fall awkwardly , over the years I’ve pruned and wrecked many trees in my time , I think the reason that they fall and may tumble is because the balance of the wood piece , wood is not dimensional in weight , like a perfect balanced square or a round circle . there’s parts of the tree that have tension wood and compression wood , which means the piece of wood round may be lighter or heavier on one side , when it is cut or severed it may fall in a specific way to do the way it weighs hopefully this helps the non wood folks understand

    Regarding the harvester bar problem. Perhaps instead of having the round drop down they could have a hydraulically actuated platform at the out-feed that would lift while the harvester bar cuts. Then it would drop down so the plunger would push the round through the splitter mechanism.

    They are a well built machine, that's for sure. The problems we saw, was very poor view of the wedge, and the style of the saw bar tensioner and mounting plate. The oiler turned all the way down was still pumping hugely excessive amounts of bar oil. In one day we used as much bar oil as our log processor does in 6 months! A log max style cam tensioner and mounting plate would be the best upgrade as far as ease of use and not having to take the bar all the way off if you throw a chain. The excessive bar oil usage also kept the plexy door covered and impossible to see through.

    We would fab a nice, beefy ¼" plate of steel, mounted to the same arm, & in line with the orange stop indicator rod. As the cut piece falls, the plate would keep it perpendicular to the cutter, and fall true in line for the splitter. Thanks for your time. God bless you folks.

    If you cut a round longer than it is across ill bet it will fall properly

    I’m a diesel mechanic through the week and a tree worker on the weekends and I would rather have the gas motor. Cats are great but Tier 4 final emissions are not. The emissions on that motor are not fun to work on, cause a lot of headache, have to have soft wear in order to work on it, and are very expensive. The splitter looks awesome just my two sense if someone was choosing between gas and diesel.

    Counterweighted/levered catchplate might help with that harvest bar issue, bit of support until it's a loose piece.

    That's why you get one with a Rotary blade. We got a machine that's almost the same except for the blade. Enjoy your machine and get a rotary one if you want a beast of a cutter.

    Cody, hydraulic forks could hold the firewood segment until the saw is finished cutting. The the forks could lower, and let the wood rest correctly oriented for the splitting. What are your thoughts? I'm thinking an easy design.

    Impressive machine, to solve the drop out issue suggest the addition of an adjustable sprung bracket at the log length gauge (or replace) to prevent the previous cut face from tilting forward and falling irregularly into the splitter.

    If the splitter had a tung on it, it could cradle the round that is cut off and that should keep it in the correct position!! 👀👀👀 maybe?

    if there was a small yoke that worked in concert with the saw blade (came up right under the log end every time you pulled the blade lever, and return down when you released the blade lever) it would support the off cut, and alleviate the flipping issue. Might even let a guy get a few more cords per chain which indeed would save a guy $100-200 over the course of a stack of logs. Would even be fairly inexpensive for Dyna to implement, just 1 ram 2 hoses and a couple splitters/fittings.

    You could swap that chain with a carbide tipped one. They are a bother to sharpen but last 3 times as long.

    7:55 if there was a clamping piston on either side of the round being cut that released as soon as the saw retracted, it'd control the fall the way you want

    Multitek uses a large carbide circular saw; goes through logs like butter. On a machine that size, it does not make sense to incorporate a high speed steel chain with a bar.

    What if it cuts from bottum to top, maybe the log wouldn't turn as much when it falls in the splitter?

    Maybe a more solid stop would aid in stopping the rounds from rotating. It would give the round something to lean against as the holding wood reduced, instead of snapping the last part through

    Does this machine cut a round while splitting a round? Seems like the ram could have a “cradle” type thing almost level with the log so while splitting you can be cutting and when the splitting ram retracts the round will most certainly not flip and fall down into the cradle. Need a fast retract on the ram tho. Maybe a variable speed knob to control the speed of the cut so you make sure to drop the round drops onto the cradle at the right time and adjust for different species. Overlapping functions is where the real speed happens. I love solving problems like this!!! Build it Wranglerstar!!!!
