    I chose the patient route, and spaced them 3.5 ft. Apart, and it’s been 5 years, and they are now huge, and look much fuller, and healthier than when you plant them close together.

      How tall and wide are they now? Thanks

    • @chadj79
      @chadj79 Год назад +10

      @@seriejohnson698 well, they started out around 3 ft tell on average, they are now averaging around 10ft tall, and just starting to touch at the base. Not a 100% block out privacy screen from my neighbors, but I’d say about 70%, and should be 100% within a couple years. I water them whenever it doesn’t rain much. Clear out winter dead fall, fertilize in the spring, and keep 2 or 3 inches of mulch around them, but not up on the trunk at all. The “instant” privacy arborvitae screens planted close together never end up looking good a few years later, they compete for space, sun, water, and nutrients.

      3.5 trunk to trunk? Or from end of plant to end of plant

    So glad I found this video! We planted ours 30" apart and I was so nervous that was too close. Nowhere near touching & they're 4-5' tall right now. We really need them to grow together and 4-5' apart seemed like...well, waiting 15 years isn't an option.

    I planted mine 40cm apart. I simply don’t have time to wait 5 years for privacy.

    Arborvitae are listed by fire safety experts as one of the most flammable plants due to their high oil content, and fire safety organizations including the NFPA FireWise program recommend against planting them anywhere near a home or structure.

    How often to water them after they established after 2 years? Once a week is Ok?

    If I were to water the arborvitae everyday for the first 2 months, then will root rot occur?

      @@rachelearles8768 I planted 7 green giants 5' on center. Yes, I am impatient! I do plan to top them every year at 20 - 25 feet. Planting Emeralds today and thinking 30 - 36". If I did 4 - 5 feet for Emeralds I'd be waiting a long long time for privacy.
