While reading Foul Detective Satori, a lot of people missed nice detail - Flandre tried to strangle Meiling, playing "I thought shes a culprit". But in fact, it is clear that she was just playing and didn't want to strangle Meiling for real and was able to control her strength enough to not break Meiling's neck. Thats a character development for Flandre.
Idk I saw it as if they just turned her into her fanon self, which normally i wouldn't care that much but considering the ammount of people that insisted she isn't a psychopath that just felt like a slap in the face
@@ironmaster6496 It is really slightly funny how Flandre is basically never given material but when she is, it aligns her more with the general perception around her(Hurting Meiling, Marisa basically avoiding her, her getting unusually excited when she is getting a job to delete someone).

@@fridge9514 (Technically we can claim Reimu is a psycho because she sometimes gets moments where she flips the table and says Youkai succ because, but then she says she does not care if Rumia eats anyone. Not that I blame Reimu because she is canonically overworked, but I still have fun memeing stuff like that.)
From what I currently gathered: In canon, She's not insane, just unpredictable. It's not like she hates being kept inside alone, she actually doesn't mind it and appreciates some visitors to play with her at times.
@@The360MlgNoscopershe's not. She's 511 years old now and in canon books she appears reasonable and mature enough. She seemed more mature in her speech than most of Touhou characters. She just don't care about most of things and prefers to talk short and without explanation what she means.
She goes on rampages when somethings ticks her off as shown in Foul Detective Satori. She isnt full psycho, and is surprisingly smart. But as soon as she thinks Patchouli is hurt and its because Meiling is a traitor (she isnt, she got controlled) she attempts to torture / kill her for "showing her true colors"
@@juaquinfuentesjara7352 She probably wasn't going to actually try 'killing' Meiling. If she wanted to, Meiling would have just been dead. Remember that Vampires are just blatantly overpowered - killing her wouldn't take much effort at all. Also, Flandre shows a startling amount of self-awareness, considering her blunt and typically violent approach to solving problems. Others are terrified of her. She knows this, they know this. So they leave her alone, just how she likes it (and if she wants to solve a problem, nobody else knows how to properly 'deal' with her without her getting what she wants, which works in her favour. She crashes in, wrecks the place, and gets the job done.).
Waiting for canon Junko. Canon Junko : A vengeful mother wanted to revenge her child. Never underestimate the power of a grieving mother. Fanon Junko : Interested on one particular moon rabbit because why not
You know Fanon Flandre's been around for a while when the Ran Ran Ru alone inspired a character in the Fate/Extraverse. As for Canon Flandre it's harder to say given how friendly she is has varied depending on which sage she's talking to, making me even more convinced that Okina brainwashed her during 17.5
@@baconsoup8346 Yuuma can't absorb Flandre's power, absorbing power of destory is meanless, that's probably why Okina pick her. Still, I don't why Okina know her, but i guess she know everyone in gensokyo.
I don't think Okina brainwashed Flandre on 17.5, acting all hype for fighting/doing less unsavoury acts (…ehem, ehem, choking Meiling) is genuinely just how Flandre rolls even on CDS. When Yukari even suggests that they might need Flandre's help to capture the murder, there's murder on her eyes as she gives us all a big Fanon Flandre smirk. The same happens when she suspects Meiling might've been a spy or the man behind the slaughter, she immediately jumps to choking her as she laughs maniacally. No Okina around to have those acts excused, that's simply how Flandre is. (When it comes to fighting? I hope so)
Yep, pretty much accurate for the most part. Fanon Flandre is one of the most unhinged people you'll ever encounter and Canon Flandre is one of the more chill folks in the SDM who is a bit naive at times but is still technically smarter than you'd think. Also, I find it funny that Touhou Lost Word, a mobile gacha game that is filled to the brim with fanon variations of every character, actually references how unhinged most of the fanon depictions of Flan are by having Relic Flandre act somewhat similar to how she is in the games and printworks and acknowledges the fact if she kept acting the way most variations would act she would get stereotyped.
The weird part is, Touhou Lost Word categorizes the divergence of universes by the number. The canon universe(That it will most likely never touch) is L0 and the one the MC is at is L1. By that metric, since the universe itself is 79 divergence-points closer, it also passively implies that its characters would also be much closer to canon, so the more reasonable Flan from L80 isn't really a thing appearently.
@@lpfan4491 technically L80 characters aren’t from a singular world, but their worlds have been completely consumed by the lost word incident though they manage to rebuild themselves, they are more akin to travelers, which would explain L80 Flan’s comment, she’s likely had to deal with a few murder flans before
@@ohaxer5916 Then the game basically breaks its own multiverse-lore because what I said is what is directly stated in the universe-descriptions. Lost Word writing-quality in a nutshell, I guess. The game has the most convoluted and insane lore I have seen in quite some time.
Too bad Misplaced Utterance sucks. Writing sucks, gameplay sucks, premise sucks, I didn't even get past the second battle because it sucks so bad. It's everything wrong with Japanese pop culture in a nutshell. Style over substance. And great. It also has it's own interpretation of multiverse theory. As if simply having it makes it less shallow than it is.
Flandre is interesting due to the fact that she almost never appears. But we do have some bits of information: She never goes outside because she doesn't usually feels like she needs to. But she will go to "play" with people. I don't think that she hates her sister, but she probably doesn't adore her either. She has killed people already, but it's not like she is actively searching for victims every day. She wants to have friends to play with, but it's not like she will play with them everyday (so I guess she is an introverted?). She is "a little crazy", but in Gensokyo who isn't? I guess she is kind of like The Collector in The Owl House: a little kid with too much power who can't fully understand the consequences of their actions. Both of them also have sibblings issues and problems to make friends. And don't forget: children are pretty chaotic and unhinged, sometimes even cruel.
actually its very evident that children not only are sometimes cruel, but its actually a case that every child seems to be a sociopath. the only reason everyone isnt, is because we teach them to not be that way.
Its stated Flandre is an introvert who has hard time to be understood by other Other than that she is mostly a really nice girl that is actually friendly even with human. But she sometimes snaps and destroys things out of kinda nowhere. (Could be exitment, ignorance or just bad control of her power) Basically she's kinda bipolar
I wonder if she is Both, She will be nice and sweet to people But She Keep her Psychopath, Killer and Destructive in her Brain, She Kill Everyone If She In a Fight or Make Her Angry
@@Hyper07777 She is actually. People have labeled her to be very pleasant to be around yet she is also very dangerous when mad. Marisa and Reimu(though mainly Marisa) are one of the very few people to actually play games with her and survive.
"Canon" Flandre? Maybe you mean The Memories of Phantasm Flandre? Many people still go for two extremes in their perception of Flandre: either she is a crazy bloodthirsty monster, or she is a silly innocent baby who just can't control her powers and doesn't want to harm anyone. And the first vision is actually closer to the truth relative to the second lol (but still incorrect). There is not a single reason to think that she can't use Destruction well, but there are several reasons to think the opposite that was shown to us in canon. She really loves her ability and she is pretty skillful at this if she can kill such powerful yokai like Yuuma, or destroy objects of very different sizes, whether a door lock or a meteorite. And why are people still thinking that she's a child who doesn't understand many things and just stupidly wants to play? Yes, she clearly loves to have fun (just like her sister and many other youkai-chars in Gensokyo lol), and sometimes she finds funny pretty cruel and violent things, especially she gets excited when she has to obliterate someone, which has already been shown twice in the manga (when she happily choke Meiling and when Yukari asked for her help in destroying Mizuchi) and in 17.5 when she went to annihilate Yuuma. Is it because she called the duel with the heroines in the extra stage a "game"? Then maybe let's call Yuuka a child, she called genocide a game too. Don't go to extremes, Flandre is obviously a girl who is sometimes cruel and violent, she is well aware of her power and desires, but at the same time she does not kill everyone in her path and remains sane. And if saying about her behavioral age, she is not much different from her sister. A lot of information has been given over the last three years to begin to understand this character better, after all.
Not going to lie, it is slightly weird how Flandre even managed to retain popularity. Everyone hates Fanon 1(Evil vamp causing trouble), everyone hates Fanon 2(Victimized) and many people either don't know about the canon or simply don't like it either. Then there are the two more niche versions of her(One being literally just a girl-version of Marx from Kirby and the other being a highly controversial one where she is literally just mentally ill due to trauma), but them being niche already says everything about how they don't impact the general view on her. The only thing that people still generally like about her is her theme, which is...an interessting development.
I don’t know why YT unhearted your comment for some reason Anyway these are good points you raised here. It was kinda my fault for not paying too much attention to Flan in actuality in this video. I didn’t really know how to encapsulate her canon personality well enough in video form with the resources that I have. Not really gonna argue cause there’s just no point in doing so. I’m at least happy people like you are willing to throw their own two cents, it at least promotes discourse which is nice
It’s pretty interesting to see the canon and Fanon depictions of this weird but adorable character. On one hand, you have her commonly being depicted as an absolute little menace. But on the other hand, in FDS, she literally straight up tells Sakuya that her motivation is primarily comfort. She wants for nothing while in the basement and so she doesn’t feel any compulsion to leave, even though she’s perfectly capable of doing so, the big locked door being purely symbolic. She does choke meiling a bit, but that’s less her being violent and more so her “playing around”,
It was pretty obvious that she jumped the gun on that situation because she stopped when she learned Meiling wasn't the imposter. She was very eager because she was basically given the okay to go after the "imposter" from the beginning. That's all she needs for it to officially be "play time" so it seems. She's still young! She's learning.

Fanon Flandre: McDonald girl locked up in the basement and can never leave the mansion because she's too dangerous. Psychotic and murderous, eager to destroy whatever and whoever she encounters. Death incarnated, madness made material, doom itself manifested into reality, and her wings are perfect for fishing. Canon Flandre: Aloof and regal. She can leave the mansion whenever she wants to (she literally couldn't be stopped if she actually tried) but doesn't have a reason to "escape" since she already is given everything she wants inside the mansion anyway. Somewhat childish and perfectly aware of what she's capable of. And just like Flandre 495+ years ago, the time has come to bury the "Fanon vs Canon" series in the basement XD It has been fun :v
In fact, almost no character she fought against in that game took it seriously and she didn't either and against Yuuma it was rather that her ability and personality were a perfect counter.
@@jakjsjs He was talking about Flandre canon's personality in the video compared to the one seen in the last 2 years with games and manga. They could be half, like Kogasa, Marisa, Murasa, Kutaka or Yamame. But when Flandre fights against Utsuho, Yuugi, Reimu, Kanako and Yuuma, they claim that she is giving them a hard time with her fight. Flandre fights at a disadvantage against Utsuho and still managed to win. Against Yuugi she also had the disadvantage that she had water everywhere and in the end the beaten Oni said that she was stronger than she expected. It could be said that Flandre's fights at 17.5 were half warming up and the other half if she put in the effort, not to mention that she against Yuuma was surrounded by water the whole time. To say that she didn't take it seriously is nonsense. When Yuuma goes to the SDM for her rematch with Flandre she fails to win, plus they are interrupted by Okina.
@@snarck8432 Against Yuuma it was not water it was oil And I meant that to say that he beat them up is an exaggeration since as seen with his fight with Reimu it ended without any real damage and against Yuuma it was his ability that allowed her ended de fight And the fact that Yuuma herself was psychotic from her oil consumption which is noticeable when comparing her personality after her regeneration
@@jakjsjs My bad on the oil part, but in the game the oil hurts you while Flandre herself says that it is a nuisance to have to fight with all that liquid everywhere. The only ones who could maintain a balanced fight against Flandre when she walked around for a few minutes to fight in each level were Reimu and Kanako, all the other characters had the beaten sprite.
You know what Flanders and Koi fish got in common outside extra stage boss? Flanderization that is literally swapping them for a stage 1 bosses, Rumia's canonical psychopathy mixed with destruction capability, Kisume's violent personality mixed with subconscious manipulation
Not to mention both of the stage 1 boss have similiar hair color with them. Rumia have blonde hair like flandre and kisume have green hair like koishi albeit darker Edit: it's not stage 1 boss but the first boss that you encounter
@@fridge9514 I thought the only reason Rumia doesn't just jump everyone IS exactly that she isn't powerful enough to win fights.(Her ability is a power-down too in most siturations because she cannot see through it either) It kinda reminds me of the "incorrect quotes" that one of the touhou bots regularly posts on Twitter where Cirno says something like "Of course I went mad with power. When you go mad without power, nobody takes you seriously".
I mean considering how Flandre was a boss fight, it's pretty understandable how someone could assume Flandre to be a crazy person who would go on a rampage as soon as released into the outside world.
It's interesting to see how everyone has vastly different interpretations of Flan. It's also interesting how ZUN wrote her in her very few appearances. She's not exactly an ultra bloodthirsty source of destruction, but neither is she a sweet and friendly misunderstood girl. She's kind of a belligerent, bratty child who likes to fight imo. Her aggressive behavior isn't helped by her being a socially awkward shut-in, since in Foul Detective Satori, she can clearly leave, but she's been bribed to stay inside all day with everything she needs (and perhaps some other factors I haven't thought of or are conpletely sure of, like her relationship with her sister could be one reason) so that she doesn't go outside and bring attention to herself or cause massive amounts of damage. And it only causes her to lose out on socializing with other people, thus infantilizing her and keeping her from understanding how to control herself. Her sister seems to keep having to assert control over her, so she's become a wannabe bully, especially when she's in a playful mood. If Marisa's extra stage ending was at least in some way canon, then maybe she could help mediate between the two.
there’s also the angle of her being a vampire and all the superhuman power that comes with it leaving her unable to comprehend others that are weaker than her
she's like this really aggressive 5th grader little shit who constantly jumps at the chance to participate in violence except her violence regularly puts people (even grown adults) into the hospital but this is Gensokyo where everyone is this belligerent and fight-happy, so she's not a big deal
no she has gained control since the events of touhou 6 is just that she canonicaly really turned herself into a shut in that loves to stay inside her room doing nothing all day
literally fanon flandre is a whole mass antagonist who will destroy gensokyo for it, canon flandre somehow is some discord mod who stays in a basement for a long time.
Thing with flan is that for such an ancient character there's not a lot of canon material to work with outside of 'girl who lived in her elder sister's basement for five hundred years and can destroy anything with a single gesture'. Which basically screams mentally unstable serial killer. It didn't help that her one manga appearance before FDS is her chasing the two inabas down a bunch of dark alleyways in the SDM.
I first watched the Ronald McDonald Insanity video back in 2008 when i was just in elementary school and it scared me, I didnt know what touhou or YTP's like that so it was uncanny. Now that I have the context that it was actually a 495 year old vampire loli it still disturbs me but for different reasons :p
A brutal murderer, a laughing psychopath, a hardcore memer, these are all things that do NOT apply to Flandre at all XD Once again you nailed it, great animation, catchy as hell and just really freaking fun extremely well made
Yeah...the fanon personality kinda irks me a bit, which is why I've always thought of Flan as just someone that wants friends, but is...a little socially awkward, because of all those years being in the mansion, even if willingly. Though, I haven't really seen much of her personality in Foul Detective, so I might change the depiction a little with what I see lol
The fact that fanon flandre loves destroying things and hurt/play with other people but she loses to a cannot destroy everything youkai/koishi fanon koishi
Was a fun little series I liked it! And also this and the lunarian drive thru video is one of my first exposures to this channel after Team Yuyutube was formed I found out about this channel and yeah what else to say you are a very solid youtuber hope you grow more on this platform.
Discord server: discord.gg/rMGxK3jDRW Now that I got self promotion out of the way, I should probably address the elephant in the room in the form of a long wall of text. ----------- When I made the first Fanon vs. Canon video on Meiling, I never intended the series to be incredibly successful. I initially created that video as just a random meme that I made for fun. However, as it is evident with current statistics, Fanon vs. Canon had quickly grown into the staple series of my channel. What was originally a dumb expansion on a Ciryes meme quickly became something that was beloved by many, with most of its entries having overwhelming support. I have to thank you all for the heartwarming comments you left under each one of them. However, despite positive reception, I am shelving the series after this video completely for two big reasons: *1. Apparent Negative Results* I noticed that these creations have attracted quite the elitist crowd, or people who pledge that canonical works always triumph the "flanderized" versions. However, Touhou is a franchise that is purely dependent on fan creations due to how niche the official games are. ZUN isn't really a spectacular writer; many of his characters are actually pretty bland, forgettable, or inconsistent in personality. Fan creations give actual depth to the character, even if they can be summed up in a single statement or two. Fanon interpretations allow ZUN's characters to be universally understood and loved throughout the fanbase, even if admittedly some of the jokes that had spawned are incredibly unfunny (e.g. Sakuya pads). However, some people think of the Fanon vs. Canon series as an attack on fanon interpretations of characters. In reality, these videos are, at worst, satire. They shouldn't be taken incredibly seriously, only viewed as memes. I actually like most fanon depictions, some over their canonical characteristics. Out of everyone I made a video on, Eiki is probably the only one I dislike, and even then I don't really see her flanderized self anymore. I never intended the Fanon vs. Canon types of videos to be an attack on the fanon versions of characters, but as it is apparent, the videos themselves projected different messages, thus morphing into a case study of the "death of author" fallacy. *2. It's gotten old.* With 9 Fanon vs. Canon videos under my belt, I will admit, I'm reaching the point where I'm milking the concept just for views. Sure, while I do change them up in one way or another between them (i.e. Tenshi Fanon vs. Canon not only being presented in an silent film/cartoon style, but also featuring two separate fanon depictions), ultimately they are all the same concept. Additionally, I feel like after Flandre, there isn't really anyone whose fanon depictions are notorious enough to make a QUALITY video out of. Some of them are just quirky punchlines, which may work several months ago, but I try to make my videos higher quality as I go, and at the moment, fanon depictions that run on one joke (such as Aya) won't cut out for me. Even then, I never saw these videos as incredibly groundbreaking. As I mentioned, the whole series all started from a silly reimagination of an ancient Ciryes meme. In fact, I was initially unhappy when the first Fanon vs. Canon video blew up, as the editing there was pretty poor and it suffered from inaccuracies. Despite the fact that they're my best performing videos on my channel, I feel like the concept is starting to get trite at this point. I want to move on to more varied content, as even if I end up losing views, I'll be able to experiment a lot more with different topics and in general just have a lot more fun exploring what types of videos I can make. I acknowledge that for some of you, the end of a series is sad. However, eventually I have to bury the hatchet and leave a dead horse alone. - Luna
Just make what you want. I don't think that anyone actually gets offended by this series, even if it seems like that it's probably ironic. Touhou would be almost nothing without it's fans. 90% of the lore is made up by fans, ZUN could just show up one day and say "you are all wrong, Reimu fell into a coma and it was all a dream" for all we know.
nah I’ve seen someone on my server make fun of how cliche the series is lmao. Wasn’t hurt by it at all though, and it was just one person But yeah, as I said on the initial post, the fanbase is the lifeblood of the franchise. Though I could just say “oh its over, go home,” I wanted to make at least a grand finale for the series
Also I may have phrased things a bit oddly. When I said “people view the series as an attack on fanon interpretations,” I was talking about the canon lore elitists playing along with this mindset and commenting on how “canon versions are always better than fanon interpretations” like mf what do you think made Touhou popular in the first place lmao.
@@lunaPrism Oh man that sucks, this was a really fun and well made show. I share your views on the fanbase and the canon of Touhou, people care WAY TOO MUCH about the canon and forget that the vast majority of us (if not literally the entire western fandom) know the series because of the doujins, and also forget that the best Touhou stories are fanmade, hell characters like Rumia and specially Daiyousei and Koakuma wouldn't be nearly as beloved or well known if it weren't for Osana Reimu, or the various doujins that have them as recurring characters with quirks I don't want to sound like a canon hater but....Zun's just a terrible writer and the canonical manga have nothing really interesting in them except for some characters and concepts. What do you think, guys? Should Flandre join the Roster in Touhou 19? I mean she played a major role in a spin off game. Usually Zun puts a Character in a order, where they play a valid role in a current story, for example: Aya= Pofv, Stb, Swr Cirno= Hisoutensoku, GFW, T16 Reisen=Ulil, Lolk, Aocf Maybe Flandre will also play a valid role in the next two games.
It's funny because apparently ZUN puts in characters just because it occurs to him spontaneously, like Flandre in 17.5 who put her in because he saw a random drawing of her from a kid

Rip Yukari.
@@GodOfWheatRiceBall I think she might've read Flandre's article on PMiSS, lmaoo

She never goes outside because she doesn't usually feels like she needs to.

Two cups of tea to this mister 🍵🍵

If Marisa's extra stage ending was at least in some way canon, then maybe she could help mediate between the two.
there’s also the angle of her being a vampire and all the superhuman power that comes with it leaving her unable to comprehend others that are weaker than her
she's like this really aggressive 5th grader little shit who constantly jumps at the chance to participate in violence except her violence regularly puts people (even grown adults) into the hospital
but this is Gensokyo where everyone is this belligerent and fight-happy, so she's not a big deal

When I made the first Fanon vs. However, despite positive reception, I am shelving the series after this video completely for two big reasons:
*1. Apparent Negative Results*
I noticed that these creations have attracted quite the elitist crowd, or people who pledge that canonical works always triumph the "flanderized" versions.
*2. It's gotten old.*
With 9 Fanon vs.

Wasn’t hurt by it at all though, and it was just one person
But yeah, as I said on the initial post, the fanbase is the lifeblood of the franchise.
I share your views on the fanbase and the canon of Touhou, people care WAY TOO MUCH about the canon and forget that the vast majority of us (if not literally the entire western fandom) know the series because of the doujins, and also forget that the best Touhou stories are fanmade, hell characters like Rumia and specially Daiyousei and Koakuma wouldn't be nearly as beloved or well known if it weren't for Osana Reimu, or the various doujins that have them as recurring characters with quirks
I don't want to sound like a canon hater but....Zun's just a terrible writer and the canonical manga have nothing really interesting in them except for some characters and concepts.
Anyways my best suggestion would be to just ignore those people but I know it can be kind of hard, i wish you the best and i hope you continue to give us great videos
Well it was a nice series, it shows people how canon characters may act (don’t quote me on that)
thankfully this introduced me to such a peak arrangement when I first watched this
ronald and flandre are a unstoppable duo
Marisa:"How many continues?"
Flandre:"Coin Ikku." (Next thing we know, Marisa is avoiding her, oof. xD)
I honestly think the most fun diffrence is how Flandre and Meiling seem to generally be portrayed as having a really positive relationship in Fanon(Funnily enough, that was the only unironically enjoyable part of the total mess that is Burst Battle's story.), yet their only interaction in canon became a meme to surpass Metal Gear.

I got a heart attack, i'm commenting this from Gensokyo.
0:20 The answer to question 1 is 34, and while I can't read the entirety of question 2, the definite integral evaluates to 138.

The reason the fanon characters go crazy like these is that the people are playing the telephone game (fanwork of a fanwork)
Cool one

Cool animation!
Basically, Canon Flandre is a Kaguya before it was cool lmao
0:50 Heart Attack💀
The ending really surprised me!
Tbh I feel kinda sad every time I look at Flandre...
Flandre will always be the definition of perfection regardless.
What do you think, guys? Should Flandre join the Roster in Touhou 19?
I mean she played a major role in a spin off game.
Usually Zun puts a Character in a order, where they play a valid role in a current story, for example:
Aya= Pofv, Stb, Swr
Cirno= Hisoutensoku, GFW, T16
Reisen=Ulil, Lolk, Aocf
Maybe Flandre will also play a valid role in the next two games.
It's funny because apparently ZUN puts in characters just because it occurs to him spontaneously, like Flandre in 17.5 who put her in because he saw a random drawing of her from a kid
T16 = HSiFS.
@@jakjsjs Cirno living in the creator's head rent free just as much as she does for the fans.
*looks at smudged writing on hand* ........T16
Would depend on the plot, as it seems to be animal characters again
