It is utterly amazing. The dude fulfilled his dream and conquered the emotional response that our bodies give us when taking on a presumably impossible task. The dude is a legend.
Even just the year before doing, when he was first attempting the climb, he thought it would take him 4 hours just to get to the Boulder Problem. He was surprised himself by how fast he was.
Everybody here seems to be angry at Graham regarding his "cmon" to Alex regarding the climb. I honestly saw it as someone like Graham who is obviously (along with most humans who look at this) in awe of his courage, focus and ability hearing of his uncertainty and thinking (how could you not know your gonna nail it!). I took it as an expression of admiration and disbelief from a unschooled observer and not some encouragement to kill himself.
@@jon8004 I'm a honnold obsessive but I understand where Graham is coming from. He admitted he had no knowledge about the sport whatsoever so his reactions were much like everyone else's when they come across Alex and the life he's living.
it's so funny in hindsight because we know that he was always cagey about this ambition in interviews before the climb, and while this one has him discussing it more openly than many, he's talking like it's still some unconcrete future possibility, while after watching Free Solo one knows that by this time he was actively training and problem-solving and mapping and doing other solos and trips to get in shape for a potential El Cap solo that same year, which then was ultimately put off until the following spring season after the fall 2016 bail. but he plays it so close to the vest :)
Awesome. 👍 A little more than a year later and he's done it. Edit; (on January 4th 2022) I'm still watching these videos lol a year later than that comment, apparently. 😇

Yeah this guys a tool. Older than Alex, should be a mentor, acts like that guy in HS that always thought he was better than he was. Nice shirt BTW Graham dont want anyone to miss those biceps, you put a lot of effort into those free soloing in the gym, eh
no alex knows exactly what he's doing,it's not like alex is going to let someone talk him into soloing el cap alex is the best free solo climber in the world when the time is right he will do it. it's was a good question for alex only any other climber would be certain death..
I've always suspected Alex was holding off on this while doing all kinds of other super hard things. I'm pretty sure Potter did it in sections. But he's right done all one go it is The Big One, maybe a bit too big.
This guy IS a tool- He should NEVER pressure Alex. Why doesn't Graham go free solo climb He should be removed from his job. I am in hopes Alex stops free solo climbing in many ways. He's already taken humanity SO far into the abyss.
Is this guy just trying to egg Honnold on to his death?!?! This is not healthy or respectful of an interviewer. He obviously does not understand the gravity of climbing free solo and only chooses to see how much gain he will receive by pushing for more. Foul move, sir. Foul move.
And today June 3rd 2017 Alex made the amazing climb up El Capitan and into the history books.
And the documentary about this amazing achievement will be released Summer 2018.
Mr Jeff thank you for that heads up! I was just searching more info on it
Mr. Jeff - Seems as though that documentary will actually be coming out Oct 2019.

@@mrjeff4832 And it won the OSCAR for Documentary
Free Solo
He finally did it! Congrats Alex!
Then he did it.
....and he just did it!
So cool watching him talk about his goals and then being able to watch him accomplish it.
HE DID IT!!!!!!
And today it has been done.
Interesting that he thought it would take 5+ hrs and he does it in fewer than 4
Even just the year before doing, when he was first attempting the climb, he thought it would take him 4 hours just to get to the Boulder Problem. He was surprised himself by how fast he was.
"No big deal" :) what a human!
I feel like he subconsciously wanted to do it as fast as possible. I always think of the film crew, watching the unknown unfold over 4 hours.
Alex is so chill....seems like a cool guy. Respect.
hey you better respect Alex's opinion. if any knows if a route is possible to free solo, it is alex
Im here after watching "Free Solo" he did it, he soloed El Cap. a little over a year of this interview!

alex is the best free solo

He did it!
He did it.
Alex admits he can feel fear! His amygdala just lit up at 0:40.
For a guy that for most of his adult life has literally, "lived in a van down by the river", he's done well.
33 people dont think so!.......but hey i dont know why people think whats good OR not do you?
He did it
Crazy how he predicts his own death-defying accomplishments, and it was a world first at that!
Awesome. 👍

This is the first time I see a host actually encourage his interviewee to do something that may possibly kill that guy ... .... I'm like w t f ??
He's jealous as fuck

Well Honnold just did it under four hours lol.
Yeah I saw that Alex did it. Props to him and I hope no one else tries.
Never dare Alex Honnold to do anything........cause he will do it.
you know you know like like like you know? i dont know

Not too big for Alex!
Nope and exactly!
I think about it, let it go and on a whim come back and do it.
did he just say fear
dude needs to learn how to free solo a comb first
This guy IS a tool- He should NEVER pressure Alex.
Why doesn't Graham go free solo climb
He should be removed from his job.

Hey Bensinger, why don`t you just "shut-up"....how many times you got to ask the dude the same thing.....for crying out loud

Well, Alex DID IT. In a way, it would be funny if Graham fucking Bensinger was the one who really pushed him to it.
@@ysf-psfx Alex's preparations were already well underway at the time of this interview. Can't you tell they both know more than they are letting on.
