    I am in awe of Alex Honnold. His level of self control is almost paranormal. I can't even imagine being able to do the things he does.

    Looking into Honnold's eyes is like staring into an infinite dark abyss

    "So... like... WHY is freesoloing harder mentally than with a rope?"
    Seriously?

    Loved how Alex responded to those questions. Very precise and thoughtful! Explaining the thought processes behind the climb and dealing with fear and doubt

    Yes , I was thinking the same!
    The interviewer didn't prepare the interview and doesn't care at all to understand Alex, by the way very humble and very clever , well done Alex!

    Alex schooled the interviewer. "Isn't it obvious, of you fall you die."
    It is great to see someone of Strength such as Alex, interviewed by another of Strength, such as Jimmy Chen, then you can feel the power and gift they have.
    However, I did enjoy this interview also..
    I love how Alex explains thinking things through, the differance between an injury or death may be controlling panic, and a clear head, from rehearsal and preparation. Thanks Alex for the encouragement. .

    Let Honnold be Honnold! Stop asking him dumb questions, please!

      +John Hall Agreed, "Explain why mentally free soloing is more challenging?" Hats off to Alex for being polite enough not to call the interviewer an idiot.

      Pretty much all of Honnold's interviews are awkward and a little on the strange side. He is a little quirky..plus, other than climbers, who really knows anything about and understands climbing? The host has two options. Either be clueless about climbing or two, do a little bit of research to learn the terms and jargon and fake it. I'd rather have a host that chooses option #1. I'd like a host to be honest. The hosts interviewing Alex will probably never do another climbing interview in their entire career. So other than learning about his personal accomplishments, I don't think that learning the history of the sport and the 'terms' in necessary.

    Know fuck all about climbing. Don't really know a lot abut Honnold but I enjoy listening to him because he's so factual and honest. There's absolutely no pretence because he doesn't have to be- he puts himself in a position where anything but pure honesty is putting himself in more danger and that's incredibly endearing and fascinating.

  • @Thek0easy

    Holy shit. I'm confident free-climbing is something I will never do in my life. All the respect in the world for Alex; I had no idea this was a thing. Insane.

      +Um Hu Don't get confused by the terms free-climbing and free-soloing.
      Free-climbing just means without support of gear but with protection.
      Free-soloing means no gear at all except ofcourse chalkbag and climbing
      shoes...

    Alex Honnold is one of the greatest climbers in the world… you should be asking him about his feats and experiences, not basic climbing questions which can be answered by common sense or a quick google

      I disagree. The interview pace comes off as 'not smooth', but a good interviewer gets good information out of his guest and that's what he seems to be accomplishing here.

    I think what’s most important when it comes to contemplation of death is understanding how much you are pissing your life away. This practice puts your priorities in check and gets you to stop taking your life for granted.

    Actually didn't think this was such a bad interview. Was interesting to hear one of the heroes of climbing elaborate a bit more. I think it's just that Bensinger's style is more suited to more traditional type professional athletes than a no big deal dirtbag Honnold type of guy. He prob would have done well to look at other videos and seen how awkward the late night interviews are compared to his climbing videos.

  • @pfschuyler

    Mr. Honnold, you're the best, dude! Now visualize earthquakes, which do happen...and retire from soloing.

  • @Dreama40
    @Dreama40 8 лет назад +2

    People are being to hard on the interviewer, when you consider that what Alex does most people would not find that not NORMAL and so the questions are not always going to be perfect. Most of the negative comments would be from people in the climbing field.

    • @calldwnthesky6495
      @calldwnthesky6495 8 лет назад

      no we're not. he's an idiot and seems to be TRYING to irritate Honnold - to make him defend who he is rather than simply talk about who he is... probably 'cause Honnold's an atheist and Graham's dedicated his anus to the lord god jesus christ

    To all the people giving the interviewer crap: maybe he shot and missed with this interview (although I thought he was okay here) but he has many other fantastic interviews with people where they’re the best interview I’ve ever seen of that specific person. Maybe he wasn’t as prepped for this one but I think all the comments are pretty harsh.
