Lovely car! Love my 300CE (12 valve) daily driver. Always a delight to use. (She’s seen over 125mph on the autobahn with no problem whatsoever and is regularly accelerated quite hard - lovely!)
1993 facelift C124 300CE-24 Sportline was able to keep up with a W126 500SE. It actually gave all W126’s carrots except for the 560SEC Happy Days Gone But Never Forgotten 😊
I'm not sure exactly which mic you guys ended up going with, but audio quality is much improved! So awesome to hear all the subtle sounds coming from the car too! Good job guys 😎😎😎
On your recommendation I did end up getting a Rode but the ME as opposed to the GO, cheaper and I don’t need the things lost in the downgrade. The auto gain control that it does have though was the clincher for me. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
I’ve always loved the styling of the Merc coupe models especially the c114/115, c123 and this c124. Your new mic works really well. Audio quality is so much better now!
The 24 valve 124's are getting rare here in the UK as well. Only 41 coupes and 22 saloons are registered as being on the road. TE's are even rarer. IMO these are the best M104 engined Mercs with K Jet reliability mixed with that screaming 7000rpm red line. Here's a quick look at mine.ruclips.net/video/NU3kIPtFJ8U/видео.html
The C124 has beautiful lines, Bruno Sacco did a fantastic job, may he rest in peace. Pity about the cracked windscreen, due to the lower roofline it's probably not a standard W124 screen. BTW, there's been a great improvement in the sound of your speech, I take it the new mic has arrived.
@@tobyd352 You mean when the 320 was introduced one year before the facelift? I know at least that in Sweden and Germany the 300E -24 was always listed at 220 hp. Only the 300SL -24 had 231hp here.
@@martinsv9183some markets could have a version of this M104 engine with minored exhaust/emission strains... even the catalytic convertor "delete" was available, depending on the region of the world where they were sold
I'm pretty sure those wheels were not available with the C124, it had 15" wheels like the sedans, although those look stunning on it. I believe the 16" 15-hole wheels were only available on the R129 SL and the 16v 190E's.
While I respect you guys not caning (or kicking down gears in) another person's car, the whole point of the early 104 / 24-valve engine was its high-rpm sportiness. It's basically the "16V Cosworth" of the 124 series! 😁😁
ASD or ASR? ASD is not really "traction control". Its a mechanical diff lock (Automatisches Sperre Differential). Although more effective than ASR in some situations.
@@oldmercguy Ok. Then it doesnt do anything with the engine management or brakes. Instead it gradually engages an "LSD" that can lock up to 100% if needed.
@@oldmercguy It has some more functions to it though. It will never engage over a certain speed. So that the risk of going sideways, if both wheels suddenly spin instead of just one, will not increase. Instead there will always and only be a constant LSD engagement of 35% at higher speed.
One does not want anyone other than a fully informed specialist to do or try to do anything to the Fuel injection system shld it be thought necessary to investigate that.
Lovely car!

Mercedes-Benz don't make stylish, classy cars like this anymore. What a gem!
I saw one going towards Chatsworth Durban. Nice car!! 👌🏾👌🏾
I have a 1991 C124 300CE and a 1974 C114 280CE really nice cars!!!
Beautiful classic!

Yes very nice lines
Mic sounds a lot better. Also What a car ❤
M104 motor , worked on many in south Africa Durban
A Zimbabwean registered MB
Ex Zim registered, it’s been licensed in SA since 07. The owner doesn’t drive it much and likes the old Zim plate
Reminds me the 350sec amg bodykit obviously not available in sa in the amg versions
it dont get much better than this
The 300-24 has to be the sweet spot c124, and r209 to be honest, pity the manuals had a dog leg
These were rated at 231bhp in a pre-facelift model in the UK.
I'm pretty sure that was only in the SL.. and 220 in the 124.
No. They moved to 220bhp with the facelift but were 231bhp in the 24 valve W124. I was a Mercedes salesman at the time.
Yes I think you’re right, I remember previously reading in the owners manual that it was 172kw.

The regular C124’s had 15’s, the 300CE 24, like the one in this video, came with the 16’s.

Once the fueling issues are sorted I’ll do a more spirited video for sure.
Finding K-Jet mechanics is extremely difficult these days, as are getting certain K-Jet parts.
We supply most of them.
