Honestly I think Shawn’s music is perfect how it was. The way he was so unknown to most but so revered by few, really lends to his mythical status. The grainy old videos just make it that much more powerful and haunting in the best way possible. The greatest guitarist that will ever live
Good Call Howard... HAve you seen what I recently posted of Shawn and I? It might be something you would enjoy. I am the only one who has this footage until now.
He played like the wind blows, like the sun shines, like flowers bloom, volcanos erupt, like rainbow appears, like crows play with rabbits. He was a phenom. By far the best expressive and technical player ive ever heard.
When I first saw Paul Gilbert playing , I was like wow this is it, this is how fast one can play great stuff But then I came across Shawn Lane My life has not been the same since then, my taste in music, my approach to life , everything changed
Same experience! When I was 16 I played Paul Gilbert's licks every day, I thought I was pretty good until I discovered Shawn Lane. Paul is still amazing to me
@@claudiomonteda8716 I've seen him, I've commented on his videos how out of this world his speed and accuracy is, he even replied to my comment And well I did not have a stroke , sorry to dissapoint you And Shawn is Shawn , the tone , the versatility , the emotions , its magical, I have never heard any other guitarist that made me feel anything close to that And Shawn's music doesn't cause a stroke, it melts my soul
@@2minutesguitar708 I'm 16 now... Discovered Shawn when i was 15... Im truly grateful.. that i know Mr. lane.. N proud to say, he's one of my biggest guitar gods
Shawn was a blessing and brought his total awesome skill to balance what 80s guitar was. He was like the Buddha of guitarists enlightening all players stripping away egos and big headedness.
Even the amazing Alex Masi was explaining some speed phrasing lick and during the breakdown of the lick he said thanks to the Great Master Shawn Lane for the inspiration..even the greats and yes Paul Gilbert knows whom the greatest was.. Shawn was an alien hybrid with zero equal..! Shawn is untouchable still 25 years later with no equal..RIP
Its ironic that you said this because I posted a couple things of Shawn and I and quite a few people think that shawn wasnt the best guitar player ever and HE WAS... I have played with the best of the best and there wasnt one guitar player that made me want to jump out of my drum seat like Shawn.. Your comment nailed it!
Watched this again.. When Shawn was with Jonas and Jeff there was plenty recorded. Shawn wasn't the type of guitar player that wasn't ready. He was the opposite. I believe he was playing live at a super young age. Happy Birthday yesterday Shawn❤️
I noticed that watching this clip months ago... I wondered if anyone noticed too. Imo that stuttering is what happens, when you are about to talk "out of your place", no one has the authority to make assumptions like that of another person, especially when the other isn't around to defend themselves (and of course, Shawn is not around, at all, RIP) We all know Paul has respect for Shawn, but irregardless of the context, those speaking foibles come up for reasons deep in the subconscious. However! it actually goes well with the message.. what has to be said, needs to be said: fight all the excuses stopping you from speaking your heart.. stop trying to perfect yourself every second of every breath.
Shawn sort of had that with Jonas Hellborg.. the albums him and Jonas released are incredible and often filled with improvisation... Personae, Time is the Enemy, Temporal Analogues of Paradise, Icon, Good People in Times of Evil... Abstract Logic.. they are all incredible and without Jonas none of it would have happened.
Shawn was timid with his personality but semi aggressive musically.. Most of his best stuff was recorded on his solo project (which should have been a duo project with He and I) and if he had Continued writing and recording His or our stuff together he would have had so much more to offer creatively.
For any die hard Shawn Lane fans: Anyone else feel, that Shawn's "perfectionist" studio albums greatly falls short when compared to amazing bootleg vids floating around in the net? (For those that dont know, Shawn was known to be a workaholic "dotting the i's" kind of worker when it came to the studio) I understand his power of ten album was on the watchful eyes and ears of Warner bros seasoned vets, but his self produced stuff, im not really all that interested,.. feels like it doesnt do him justice.. anyone else share this thought? Relating back to Paul's observation and message, my opinion: had Shawn's recordings been left more raw than polished, i might actually enjoy it.. (the more raw, the less time it took to come out, the more time to make albums, i guess)
I'm so sad that Shawn Lane isn't around to record more music in HQ and be seen on video with today's clarity and technology but I am SO glad that we have what we do.

Shawn Lane had no equal,he will always be my favorite guitar player

@giustinoscalise3177 so true, nice to meet you sir.
I love his brief Shawn impression
spot on!!! 😂❤
It was pretty accurate.
The only problem is that Shawn didnt have a country accent and he spoke with a much higher tone voice...

Really well said.. More people should have heard Shawn. I did some recent posts of Shawn and I that I hope others will appreciate.

Bruce you are extremely well spoken and right on.
I'm grateful for the Shawn stuff we have here on RUclips, I listen to hundreds of hours of it every year
As a procrastinating musician, this short clip is actually pretty inspiring haha.

He thought a toilet in his peripheral vision was a monster.
