Great job! Am faced with the same thing and am wondering if I should replace the whole engine. The car has 170K miles on it. The water pump seized and overheated blowing the head gasket out.
Nice video series! These videos helped a lot when I was replacing a hydro locked motor on a 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. I have the new motor in already and everything connected. I am replacing the valve cover today and have a question about the oil that you put on the top of the cams to avoid a dry start. How much oil did you put on the cams/the top of the motor? I am trying to avoid a dry start and I think hybrid engines are a little different then regular engines in terms of the steps that you can do to avoid a dry start (i.e for regular gasoline engines you can unplug the fuel injectors and take out the spark plugs to crank the motor). Would you recommend these same procedures to be performed on the hybrid motor as well?
Thanks For a Great Video. See that you have Re-Used cylinder head Bolts. This seems to be a Huge Debate, whether or not to use New or Used. What Would you suggest ?
Nice and complicated job with an expensive bill, i assume it was well overheated?? Does the 2.4 hybrid have the same issues as the NA 2.4 regarding metal contamination and bearing failure?
Very well done and thorough video series. Thank you for posting this. I'm sure filming the job added a lot of time to the project.
