For a free character, he has honestly the most gorgeous, well polished, and high fidelity 3D model in the game. His character and story are both exceptional and he was definitely the highlight of the 1.2 festival event, especially near the end. This trailer only cemented him as one of my all time favorites. Guys. This is a free character. Absolutely crazy how Kuro pours so much love into all of their Resonators, even the ones they give away for free and also the lower tier characters. Yao reminds me a lot of Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. A scientist who stepped too close to the truth and lost an arm because of that. I am not into guys but god damn even I have to admit that all the male characters in this game are so good.

eh, he was in a limited event. so new players dont get to meet him. he is not getting a companion quest... So unless he appears in main story one day, I would say he got treated quite badly storywise.

The event's still there for every single player to this day. I think we're just confusing the event gameplay for the Xiangli Yao story segment, or at least that's what I believe is happening considering what's been done before.

Plus his playstyle and design is super cool. Ahhh the animation in this trailer was amazing, especially the story displayed with his alter ego. He’s so pretty. I love how the voice actor did as well, he really captured the emotions of Yao. One of the best trailers!!

Everything is told so well that I'm bought at double pace, I liked Xiangli Yao before but the showcase made him a must-have now. I'm glad that I attended Moon-Chasing Festival and gathered enough Popularity already! :D So many lore tidbits dropped inside! Connection to Perfect Alloy (shown in the current Somnoire with Carnival in Slumberland), which is a material of Xiangli Yao's prosthetic arm. His childhood and attempts to be swayed by researchers to join Court of Savantae, his father being a member of CSC and gifting his son a cube which seems to be a piece to solve a mystery of Xiangli Yao's parent's disappearance. Private Investigator's inner thoughts that manifest and push him forward to search for the ultimate truth - it's like it's his sub-consciousness which is alive and darker, its shadow resembles Calcharo's phantom manifested outside somehow. Keep going strong, Kuro-chan! 🥰
That was amazing. He`s a 10/10 in every way possible. I don`t usually pull for male characters and I`m glad he`s free or I would have to lose some astrids. The calm eyes, the small moves, the barehand fight, the voice. Kuro REALLY knows how to make a trailer, not only they make a character ingame looks as amazing as the art but the trailer works as a sneakpeak in the character backgroud. And I love that the NPC's are not just a random faceless voice. xD

The choice to make it so he probably lost his arm RECENTLY is so interesting to me! I really hope his champion quest goes into detail about it! I feel a lot of games and movies always go with the "they were born like that" explaination which while also realistic I feel it requires less of an emotional knowing than someone struggling with becoming NEWLY disabled in a certain way!

Please correct me if I'm wrong but from personal analysis: He lost his arm pursuing his father's legacy, or trying to desperately uncover his disappearance. Perhaps holding onto his childhood memories and trying to live up to the expectations set for him as a child. If I'm not wrong, the scene where his "evil self" is trying to convince him to join them alludes to giving up completely. He faces it, perhaps this is the moment his forte awakens, since his arm was made by his forte? My guess is that he was severely depressed, it's why he skipped the entrance exam. So much symbolism, I hope someone more educated than me in this makes a breakdown soon.

I’m so excited for Xiangli Yao, he’s become my favorite character in the game since the patch came out ‼His story is super cool too, especially in the event. Plus his playstyle and design is super cool. Ahhh the animation in this trailer was amazing, especially the story displayed with his alter ego. He’s so pretty. I love how the voice actor did as well, he really captured the emotions of Yao. One of the best trailers!!

Goosebumps during the whole trailer, his backstory is so sad and it feels like he is trying to walk away from what everyone thought he would be and it’s hard for him with all the peer pressure. Holy moly, Kuro-chan! It's such a great showcase that I can't even... Your productions are getting better every time, next one is more fleshed out than the previous. Everything is told so well that I'm bought at double pace, I liked Xiangli Yao before but the showcase made him a must-have now. I'm glad that I attended Moon-Chasing Festival and gathered enough Popularity already! :D
So many lore tidbits dropped inside! Connection to Perfect Alloy (shown in the current Somnoire with Carnival in Slumberland), which is a material of Xiangli Yao's prosthetic arm. His childhood and attempts to be swayed by researchers to join Court of Savantae, his father being a member of CSC and gifting his son a cube which seems to be a piece to solve a mystery of Xiangli Yao's parent's disappearance. Private Investigator's inner thoughts that manifest and push him forward to search for the ultimate truth - it's like it's his sub-consciousness which is alive and darker, its shadow resembles Calcharo's phantom manifested outside somehow.

The choice to make it so he probably lost his arm RECENTLY is so interesting to me! I really hope his champion quest goes into detail about it! I feel a lot of games and movies always go with the "they were born like that" explaination which while also realistic I feel it requires less of an emotional knowing than someone struggling with becoming NEWLY disabled in a certain way!

Solon once said that they made a larger joint plot for Nier and PGR than the anniversary version, but it was deleted because the copyright holder did not allow it to be used. They did not want any character plot connection between the two games, which led to the project team urgently modifying the joint content but the effect was not very good. Please correct me if I'm wrong but from personal analysis:
He lost his arm pursuing his father's legacy, or trying to desperately uncover his disappearance. Perhaps holding onto his childhood memories and trying to live up to the expectations set for him as a child. If I'm not wrong, the scene where his "evil self" is trying to convince him to join them alludes to giving up completely. He faces it, perhaps this is the moment his forte awakens, since his arm was made by his forte? My guess is that he was severely depressed, it's why he skipped the entrance exam.
So much symbolism, I hope someone more educated than me in this makes a breakdown soon.
A lot of things happened in his story too, dont wanna spoil but some bits in the story will put the whole picture together.
