When I first started watching, I wasn’t really sure how Genshin and analog horror would mesh, but you managed to make them fit together so naturally, and with such a gut-wrenching take on Dottore’s backstory with Sohreh. And the cut ending where Dottore reveals that he sent in a young segment to get sacrificed to Columbina, just to lure her out????? I have so many questions now. Like did Dottore actually get framed for Sohreh’s death originally, or did he just program the segment to think that in order to get him to walk into Columbina’s domain? Also, the animation quality is really incredible. I keep rewinding to certain parts of the video to watch how Dottore moves. It’s so smooth, and I really like the mix of 3D and 2D elements in the context of analog horror.
I remember that we weren't explicitly told that he was framed. BUT, it is HEAVILY implied that he wasn't the one who killed Sohreh. He was close to her and he was framed.

1. For those who don't know the song in this short movie is a Christian liturgy song with the title "Holy, Holy, Holy", the 2nd verse of this song is indeed says about angels singing to praising God. It matches with Columbina's angel persona 2. I heard that Backrooms horror are based on a person's trauma so having a an angel-like creature chasing Zandik throughout the stairs room represents Zandik's trauma of getting called a "murderer", a "sinner" who deserves a heavenly punishment, i guess as a Christian this video quite a Christmas gift for me, thank you Kieru! ooh re: 2., that’s a really interesting take! from that perspective i also think the cookie-cutter suburban houses might represent dottore being ostracized and later driven out by his community. the clothes/cube room im less sure about: typically that sort of symbolism is used to depict “anonymous,” senseless death on a large scale-reminds me of boltanski’s personnes. could represent the futileness of the search for sohreh?

This is a really well-made psychological thriller. The animation parts are short, but are very high quality, appropriate, and well rendered, which makes them stand out. I like how you did a mix of 3D and 2D this time for this new genre - It really adds to the horror because it gives a sense of surrealism, which is a style that I already find horrifying on its own. Also love how I can see a lot of references fo backrooms, dreamcore, liminal space, found footage horror, religious horror, psychological horror in time loops, followed by an open ending which makes everything - Dottore's efforts - seem meaningless and thus even more horrifying. Side note, but I am a Christian myself, and it's interesting to see how other people portray these angels in biblical horror. "What happened to Dottore in the end?" - in the end, we see that he meets with his childhood friend (likely sohreh?) during his sweetest times of life before ascending into what seems like "heaven", perhaps a limbo or a life review experience, meaning that he has possibly died. Or maybe it's just another false dream in time's play. Either way, we see Columbina, the six-winged angel, a supposed "holy" and "glorious" figure that we (mankind) are to cherish if we see them in the afterlife, appear. They are supposed to be beautiful, so beautiful that they almost seem magnificent, but so too much that it, at some point, becomes overwhelming and there certainly is an element of horror in it. It makes more sense if we see the description in the Bible (as how you mentioned in the video descriptions), "And the angels, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within"; in our eyes, frankly speaking, this isn't normal. This is so different from the typical "two-winged, man-like being in white cloathing" we tend to think of. I think this is where the horror branches off; "who are these beings?" "are they even angels?" "they are both so glorious and horrifying that it scares me" "are they even here to save us?", and so on. People say that the angels greet us when we ascend into Heaven, but if the supposed "angels" are such frightening figures, who are they, really? Are we actually even being taken to Heaven? I think the horror lies in such an open-ended mystery. You did so well in capturing this. You definitely would have spent a lot of time watching backroom footages for this haha. What a masterpiece. Hope to see more of your works in this genre!

She is actually named sohreh, she was partners with dottore named zandik in academia. In game notes indicate he murdered her on a field project but some other people say he was framed for her murder, which in reality ome of the sages plotted to kill her and frame him so he can steal his works and inventions to his name
As a fellow Christian, I think I may add something about angels : Not all angels look the same in the Bible, most angels in the Bible are described like humans but with chrysolithe glowy skin, like the one in the book of Daniel. Or just humans that are wrapped in light, like the ones who were sent to speak to Abraham and Mary (the angel Gabriel isn't described as one of the scary ones). The scary angels, like the seraphim, cherubim, and the wheels are mainly described in the book of Ezechiel. So, it kinda "annoy" me (like not really but a bit) to hear people talk about biblically accurate angels and only show the scary seraphim of Ezechiel, because it's not entirely true. There is not biblically accurate angel in one way, because all angels look different and there's many types described. But it totally makes sense to use the seraphim/wheels of Ezechiel in this type of content, plus it fits Columbina perfectly.
@ Yeah, I too am aware that not all angels look like seraphim or cherubim, but I was just talking about the (comparatively) odd-looking ones in the context of biblical horror since that’s what this animation was showing and bc it’s what Cloumbina’s design is likely based off. Nothing against our religion or such! I was just purely writing it in what would seem understandable by people who’s never encountered this kind of concept before.
So I think the Columbina monster takes and kills a person from a pair (couples?) , and leaves the other, based on what she says at 5:19. This has happened many times from the clothes in the room (the victims) , as well as the flashes from 9:30 which show different places where the attacks occured. So Zandik's friend was the one taken in the past, while he was the one in his "pair" to survive. Could be wrong but it's fun to speculate about! 😅
The fact that in every flash of the attack, the victim dead body is censored as blood splatters everywhere and a trail of it goes into the door, Like in some flash the dead body was on the wall as it was censored with blood splatter all around, This shows how the attack was so gruesome and horrifying that it had to be censored
I never expected to see such great content at HoyoFair that would bring back the experiences and sensations I have had with horror content in recent years. I felt that the storytelling, direction, and excellent animation filled the gaps between the fiction we feel in the animation and our actual senses. I look forward to seeing your next work.

@ishansharma2463 I don't remember that much abt sumeru lore but basically dottore's real name is zadnik and if I'm not mistaken he allegedly did some very bad stuff in the academia and they kicked him out. If I remember correctly they did it bcs he experimented on the girl in the picture.

this is fantastic. like really fantastic. i love how you set this up with Zandik’s backstory…and Columbina being the eldritch horror angel??? this whole thing just a ploy to lure her out???? fantastic. LOVE what you did with her design btw also knowing Genshin’s lore, something like the Backrooms could actually make sense considering the whole Fake Sky thing and the implications of the entire world being a tightly controlled environment (or even a dream) by entities that don’t like things breaking their rules or getting in the way of their plans. it almost feels like in this case these doors are like…the chaotic space between the Firmament and the Outside or smth… damn i love how this gets my lore enthusiast brain going. the game’s got a lot of good room for horror elements and you guys killed it!
This is the kind of Anime horror I would expect to have more often, It's more terrifying that's relating to how it's like with back rooms, yet this has the perfect combination of Anime + Horror (just like Uzumaki) perfect fan-made project!
I love this. Its a shame Hoyo itself did not go more in-depth with Dottore's character yet because he is such an interesting and well put together character, who deserves a lot more attention. Your animation is fantastic, I love seeing the fandom give more depth to him and show their own spin on his character. the portrayal of Columbina as an angel has been done before, but your way of showing her as an anomaly/SCP is so interesting, and also tying Sohreh's death into it is just WOW. everyone who worked on this did an amazing job. the movement, the environment, sound and music is spot on and breathtaking. Please keep up the good work!!
Combining SCP, the Backrooms and Genshin with some religious (Christian) inspiration, in an analogue horror format is something that I have never thought I would see. It's so hard to execute well... Especially in animation! The team did amazing as usual, it's always a treat to see your animations on Hoyofair!

There are always thoses few hoyofair videos that animate the lore in game each hoyofair even if it's minimal, in the last one the book Moonlit bamboo forest got animated.
The people saying he killed Sohreh don't read everything about him. I didn't even know there was a Zandik's Legacy piece in Sumeru City until recently. The guy was a legit upcoming doctor who actually was healing people, yes even if its in a crude manner. I don't buy the story at all of him murdering Sohreh, because then it wouldn't make sense why he'd stop the Ruin Machine attacking the expedition team. I am fully behind the idea that someone murdered his lover and he was framed for it. So in consequence, people believe he's a rumored murderer with no morals. Wondering if he knew who did it and 'already took care of the matter.'

I don't know how to simplify my glazing but this is such a good video for the dottore fans. Not only was this so well animated, but you also respected his lore. His lore is so heavily misunderstood in the fandom that I just cannot join in conversations without hearing "Dottore killed his coleague" when it's obvious that her death was left ambiguous. Also, Dottore looks super gorgeous! I have a little bit of hope that maybe you guys will make a follow-up video from this one? I enjoy the twist where Original was just trying to catch Columbina which makes me think that a follow-up video might work. But I am just a filthy Dottore truther that wants more quality content of him.

I am Korean. I'm glad that the interpretation of the character is completely consistent and what I previously estimated about the character story. A long time ago, when everyone said that he killed Sohreh, I alone said that instead of killing her, he tried to tell the truth about her. I'm glad that my interpretation finally shines. And I'm in awe of your anime. Always watching well.

also wanna add that the rapture imagery for me was solidified by columbina quoting that one bible verse at 5:23 which i now found out was matthew 24:40-41 - "two in the field" and "two in the mill"... "one taken, one left". i could gush about this animation forever
I like to believe, perhaps, that most of Dottore's segments extract a distorted version of his past. Maybe 1-2-9 was never a murderer, maybe 1-2-9 loved Sohreh and Columbina feeds on that desperation... You know it's damn beautiful analog horror when you can extract 1000 interpretations. Hoyolab isn't canon but Kieru, you always drop the best interpretations for the smallest details left in the game. (Not to mention the stunning animation that just keeps getting better since house of wolves like OUGH)
I really hope you can see this. It was my most anaticipated animation on this year's Hoyofair. First - I love the way you designed this segment. I love his trench coat and the way he has qualities of both Webtoon Dottore and Omega Build. Now, let's go to the characterization - I watched the whole animation holding my breath. I love the way you portrayed him - he seems balanced, calculated in his mannerisms, clean, calm, in control of himself. Also, the way his speech is soft and well mannered, it seemed very warm and even intimate yet playful when he was talking with Sohreh. And, oh my God, I love your take on their relationship so much I was crying in the end. One of the bestest things I saw in this fandom, very in tune with my own headcanons based on game's lore - especially at the possibility that he wasn't her murderer, but instead he had good relationship with her and the way everything was blamed on him was very cruel, unjust, traumatic. The fact that Hoyo included such imagination during their event is very meaningful to me. Moreover, the areas Zandik explores are very interesting, personally I interpret them as a metaphore of his own fears and locked traumas. Here Columbina goes and your portrayal of her makes me think more about their relationship. She is the one who pushes him through all of that, she is terrifying but strangely beautiful. Mix with religious imagination was something that touched me deeply on personal level. But again, as the one who pushes him through all of that, Columbina is the one aware, who knows him as well and it seems that he can find consolation at the end... Yet, it always turns as a nightmare. Something that may be as draining as insightful about one's state of mind. Summarizing, I love everything about your work, everyone who was working on it deserves big respect and recognition, I love what I saw even if in the end it brought me to tears. Sohreh and Zandik are very important characters to me and I wasn't expecting that someone will touch their dark mystery on such a big scale.

I want to think that this was how Dottore Proper brought Columbina into the Fatui using the data he collected from his "segment." This was fantastic! The animation, artwork, music, sound design, all of it was perfect! My favorite detail in particular was how the singing followed Columbina as she walked the stairs starting from 5:53, and only through the camera recording.

Splendid work! Astonishing direction and VFX work. Kept me in suspense for the whole duration of this short movie(!). Mix of VHC filtered shots, 2D and 3D (like in 4:47) and glitch transitions gave it so much unexpected dynamic. Easily on of the most memorable hoyofair application of all time!

I honestly have no other words for this, other than wow. Horror is my favorite genre, and I especially love analog horror. I saw a few clips of this on tiktok and decided to check it out, and that definitely wasn’t a mistake. This is absolutely beautiful, and I think it really fits Columbinas eerie and mysterious atmosphere. Well done.

1. For those who don't know the song in this short movie is a Christian liturgy song with the title "Holy, Holy, Holy", the 2nd verse of this song is indeed says about angels singing to praising God. It matches with Columbina's angel persona
2. I heard that Backrooms horror are based on a person's trauma so having a an angel-like creature chasing Zandik throughout the stairs room represents Zandik's trauma of getting called a "murderer", a "sinner" who deserves a heavenly punishment, i guess

ooh re: 2., that’s a really interesting take! from that perspective i also think the cookie-cutter suburban houses might represent dottore being ostracized and later driven out by his community. the clothes/cube room im less sure about: typically that sort of symbolism is used to depict “anonymous,” senseless death on a large scale-reminds me of boltanski’s personnes. could represent the futileness of the search for sohreh?

This is a really well-made psychological thriller. The animation parts are short, but are very high quality, appropriate, and well rendered, which makes them stand out. I like how you did a mix of 3D and 2D this time for this new genre - It really adds to the horror because it gives a sense of surrealism, which is a style that I already find horrifying on its own. Also love how I can see a lot of references fo backrooms, dreamcore, liminal space, found footage horror, religious horror, psychological horror in time loops, followed by an open ending which makes everything - Dottore's efforts - seem meaningless and thus even more horrifying.
Side note, but I am a Christian myself, and it's interesting to see how other people portray these angels in biblical horror. "What happened to Dottore in the end?" - in the end, we see that he meets with his childhood friend (likely sohreh?) during his sweetest times of life before ascending into what seems like "heaven", perhaps a limbo or a life review experience, meaning that he has possibly died. Or maybe it's just another false dream in time's play. Either way, we see Columbina, the six-winged angel, a supposed "holy" and "glorious" figure that we (mankind) are to cherish if we see them in the afterlife, appear. They are supposed to be beautiful, so beautiful that they almost seem magnificent, but so too much that it, at some point, becomes overwhelming and there certainly is an element of horror in it. It makes more sense if we see the description in the Bible (as how you mentioned in the video descriptions), "And the angels, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within"; in our eyes, frankly speaking, this isn't normal. This is so different from the typical "two-winged, man-like being in white cloathing" we tend to think of. I think this is where the horror branches off; "who are these beings?" "are they even angels?" "they are both so glorious and horrifying that it scares me" "are they even here to save us?", and so on. People say that the angels greet us when we ascend into Heaven, but if the supposed "angels" are such frightening figures, who are they, really? Are we actually even being taken to Heaven? I think the horror lies in such an open-ended mystery.
You did so well in capturing this. You definitely would have spent a lot of time watching backroom footages for this haha. What a masterpiece. Hope to see more of your works in this genre!

She is actually named sohreh, she was partners with dottore named zandik in academia. In game notes indicate he murdered her on a field project but some other people say he was framed for her murder, which in reality ome of the sages plotted to kill her and frame him so he can steal his works and inventions to his name
As a fellow Christian, I think I may add something about angels :
Not all angels look the same in the Bible, most angels in the Bible are described like humans but with chrysolithe glowy skin, like the one in the book of Daniel.
Or just humans that are wrapped in light, like the ones who were sent to speak to Abraham and Mary (the angel Gabriel isn't described as one of the scary ones).
The scary angels, like the seraphim, cherubim, and the wheels are mainly described in the book of Ezechiel.
So, it kinda "annoy" me (like not really but a bit) to hear people talk about biblically accurate angels and only show the scary seraphim of Ezechiel, because it's not entirely true.
There is not biblically accurate angel in one way, because all angels look different and there's many types described.
But it totally makes sense to use the seraphim/wheels of Ezechiel in this type of content, plus it fits Columbina perfectly.
@ Yeah, I too am aware that not all angels look like seraphim or cherubim, but I was just talking about the (comparatively) odd-looking ones in the context of biblical horror since that’s what this animation was showing and bc it’s what Cloumbina’s design is likely based off. i would PAY to watch this again for the first time.
So I think the Columbina monster takes and kills a person from a pair (couples?) , and leaves the other, based on what she says at 5:19. This has happened many times from the clothes in the room (the victims) , as well as the flashes from 9:30 which show different places where the attacks occured. So Zandik's friend was the one taken in the past, while he was the one in his "pair" to survive. Could be wrong but it's fun to speculate about! 😅
The fact that in every flash of the attack, the victim dead body is censored as blood splatters everywhere and a trail of it goes into the door, Like in some flash the dead body was on the wall as it was censored with blood splatter all around, This shows how the attack was so gruesome and horrifying that it had to be censored
I never expected to see such great content at HoyoFair that would bring back the experiences and sensations I have had with horror content in recent years. I felt that the storytelling, direction, and excellent animation filled the gaps between the fiction we feel in the animation and our actual senses. I look forward to seeing your next work.

@ishansharma2463 I don't remember that much abt sumeru lore but basically dottore's real name is zadnik and if I'm not mistaken he allegedly did some very bad stuff in the academia and they kicked him out. If I remember correctly they did it bcs he experimented on the girl in the picture.

also knowing Genshin’s lore, something like the Backrooms could actually make sense considering the whole Fake Sky thing and the implications of the entire world being a tightly controlled environment (or even a dream) by entities that don’t like things breaking their rules or getting in the way of their plans. it almost feels like in this case these doors are like…the chaotic space between the Firmament and the Outside or smth… damn i love how this gets my lore enthusiast brain going. the game’s got a lot of good room for horror elements and you guys killed it!

I love this. Its a shame Hoyo itself did not go more in-depth with Dottore's character yet because he is such an interesting and well put together character, who deserves a lot more attention.

the portrayal of Columbina as an angel has been done before, but your way of showing her as an anomaly/SCP is so interesting, and also tying Sohreh's death into it is just WOW.

Combining SCP, the Backrooms and Genshin with some religious (Christian) inspiration, in an analogue horror format is something that I have never thought I would see. It's so hard to execute well... Especially in animation!

As someone who reads notes everywhere I go on the map since 1.0, I'm surprised to see some obscured lore surfacing in a HoyoFair video of all places lol
There are always thoses few hoyofair videos that animate the lore in game each hoyofair even if it's minimal, in the last one the book Moonlit bamboo forest got animated.
The people saying he killed Sohreh don't read everything about him. I didn't even know there was a Zandik's Legacy piece in Sumeru City until recently. The guy was a legit upcoming doctor who actually was healing people, yes even if its in a crude manner. I don't buy the story at all of him murdering Sohreh, because then it wouldn't make sense why he'd stop the Ruin Machine attacking the expedition team.
I am fully behind the idea that someone murdered his lover and he was framed for it. So in consequence, people believe he's a rumored murderer with no morals. Wondering if he knew who did it and 'already took care of the matter.'

Not only was this so well animated, but you also respected his lore. His lore is so heavily misunderstood in the fandom that I just cannot join in conversations without hearing "Dottore killed his coleague" when it's obvious that her death was left ambiguous.

realized where you were going with the "stairway to heaven" once i realized we might be looking at the remains of those raptured halfway through. i can actually say the concept of "rapture" was explored in a genshin animation! yall are crazy but in the best way possible.

also wanna add that the rapture imagery for me was solidified by columbina quoting that one bible verse at 5:23 which i now found out was matthew 24:40-41 - "two in the field" and "two in the mill"... "one taken, one left". i could gush about this animation forever
I like to believe, perhaps, that most of Dottore's segments extract a distorted version of his past. Maybe 1-2-9 was never a murderer, maybe 1-2-9 loved Sohreh and Columbina feeds on that desperation... You know it's damn beautiful analog horror when you can extract 1000 interpretations. Hoyolab isn't canon but Kieru, you always drop the best interpretations for the smallest details left in the game.
(Not to mention the stunning animation that just keeps getting better since house of wolves like OUGH)
I really hope you can see this. It was my most anaticipated animation on this year's Hoyofair. First - I love the way you designed this segment. I love his trench coat and the way he has qualities of both Webtoon Dottore and Omega Build. Now, let's go to the characterization - I watched the whole animation holding my breath. I love the way you portrayed him - he seems balanced, calculated in his mannerisms, clean, calm, in control of himself. Also, the way his speech is soft and well mannered, it seemed very warm and even intimate yet playful when he was talking with Sohreh. And, oh my God, I love your take on their relationship so much I was crying in the end. One of the bestest things I saw in this fandom, very in tune with my own headcanons based on game's lore - especially at the possibility that he wasn't her murderer, but instead he had good relationship with her and the way everything was blamed on him was very cruel, unjust, traumatic. The fact that Hoyo included such imagination during their event is very meaningful to me.
Moreover, the areas Zandik explores are very interesting, personally I interpret them as a metaphore of his own fears and locked traumas. Here Columbina goes and your portrayal of her makes me think more about their relationship. She is the one who pushes him through all of that, she is terrifying but strangely beautiful. Mix with religious imagination was something that touched me deeply on personal level. But again, as the one who pushes him through all of that, Columbina is the one aware, who knows him as well and it seems that he can find consolation at the end... Yet, it always turns as a nightmare. Something that may be as draining as insightful about one's state of mind.
Summarizing, I love everything about your work, everyone who was working on it deserves big respect and recognition, I love what I saw even if in the end it brought me to tears. Sohreh and Zandik are very important characters to me and I wasn't expecting that someone will touch their dark mystery on such a big scale.
This is no longer just a genshin animation, THIS IS ART!

This was fantastic! The animation, artwork, music, sound design, all of it was perfect!
My favorite detail in particular was how the singing followed Columbina as she walked the stairs starting from 5:53, and only through the camera recording.

Splendid work! Astonishing direction and VFX work. Kept me in suspense for the whole duration of this short movie(!). Mix of VHC filtered shots, 2D and 3D (like in 4:47) and glitch transitions gave it so much unexpected dynamic. Easily on of the most memorable hoyofair application of all time!

I saw a few clips of this on tiktok and decided to check it out, and that definitely wasn’t a mistake. the scene at 5:55 really reminds me of the mandela catalogue (i love tmc, so this is a very good thing :3) and that eerie scene where the door slowly starts to open up inbetween motion captures.. you got that horror vibe down PERFECTLY!! i love all the details and the voiceacting and the animation and UGH its all so good waah!!! amazing job to everyone who worked on this
This level of masterpiece just up set the bar to the highest level that noone can match. Columbina looks majestic and terrifying yet somehow it feels right.
