The movie NEVER shows them "teaching him how to play football". It shows SJ working on playbook memorization with him. The film also shows Leigh Anne giving him a 70 second motivational talk about having a protective mindset. In August 2023, Michael filed a lawsuit in Memphis - stating that the main premise of the story is a lie. He discovered in Feb 2023 that was never "adopted" but rather placed in a conservatorship - where the Tuohys gained legal rights to do business deals using his name - and is not actually a member of the family. He claims that they basically stole $300 million. (Just because the film made $300 million doesn't mean that is their portion - so I think there may be some confusion... or more information that I am unaware of (obviously.)) Anyway the story is currently in a very sad chapter - for what was (and is) such a sweet story and hopeful movie. If the movie is any indication, I hope they can work out their differences.
The lawsuit is all bunk. In a biography Michael wrote more than a decade earlier, he talks about how it was a conservatorship. In short he was fully aware of it the entire time. Also, the movie was based on the a book, and so the author of the book is who made the bulk of the royalties from the movie, not the Tuohys. Around $432,000 was paid to the Tuohys between the book and the movie, of which $138,000 was paid to Michael.
@@chaddaniel254 Yes. I agree that the Tuohys' initial response to the lawsuit seems to show that Michael is at least somewhat mistaken. It really is unfortunate. I believe the Tuohys said something like ~"we loved him at 16 and we still love him at 30." (more or less).
I agree with everything here, except the hope they can work out their differences. Some things people can do are so awful it's better to just cut ties and try to move on.

During college, I was a the night manager of a 24/7 gym and we definitely had more than a few unhoused folks making use of the facilities. 🖕🏻 Michael! I hope he doesn’t get a penny! This family opened their home to a random POC with a small boy and a young girl in the house. They went out of their way to give him a chance in life and this is how he repays them?
So strange what a classic this became when most of the events in this movie were completely fabricated. They didn't teach him anything about football, he was already a highly scouted and popular D1 prospect and already top 5 in the state I believe when they met him. He wasn't dumb or near illiterate like they portray him as, apparently this portrayal really hurt him for years after this came out because fans would approach him as if he had a severe learning/mental disability. He was never afraid of white people. They didn't adopt him, they tricked him into a conservatorship when he was already an adult and took a ton of his pro football earnings when they were already well off before him. In fact they had him give away the rights to his lifestory and only the family profitted off of this movie. This movie was the epitome of the "white woman appears and fixes black kids" genre. But I also think this is what thankfully killed it, it was so tropey there was no possible way to be more white savior than it.
But you see all the comments in here hand waving away what happened because they love sandra bullocks, or that this was a good movie. I could guess on the color of their skins, but I'll leave that alone.
If you look at the court filings... they didn't take any of his football money, the conservatorship was set up when Michael was already a legal adult, he says he thought he was legally adopted. It doesn't, it's gives they legal rights as family (like medical decisions) without adoption. The only reason the conservatorship was questioned was because they were supposed to do annual accountings, but there was no activity so they didn't. The only money being questioned was the money from the movie. Which was minimal. They sold the story to an author who wrote a book. They received a few hundred grand for the rights to the story. The author sold the rights to make it a movie. Also, the family was already loaded. Like over 100M loaded. When Michael filed the lawsuit he was no longer playing football and he'd spend a fair portion of the football money. When he remarried (not sure of how it came up) the details of adoption came up... Michael found out he wasn't adopted. Michael tried to get money from the family or he'd "go to the press" with his story. The let him go to the press. Michael not being adopted give him no legal claim to inheritance. No on is innocent in this story.
Love this movie! You should react to "Misery", It stars Kathy Bates (the lady who plays Michael's tutor in Blind Side). Y'all would enjoy that...I guarantee that!
Inaccuracies: - The film shows a game where Oher blocks a kid completely off the field, over the track, up off his feet and over a WALL. IRL it was a scrimmage and all he did was block him all the way over the sidelines and into the bench. He almost started a full-team rumble. - The film shows Oher jacking up this gang member who just showed him his GUN, and then he slams other gang members who are also presumed to be armed. IRL he chased a teammate *HALF HIS SIZE* all over Ole Miss campus, trashed the smaller guy in a room full of tutors and their families.... knocking some little white child over and splitting his head on the floor. When he saw this child bleeding and realized what he had done.... he ran away and hid. - The film shows this scene with Oher and the Tuohys around the dining room table where they talk about them becoming his legal guardians in this lovey-dovey "we want you to be part of our family" way. In the Blind Side book it says they explained to him that if he was still thinking about going to Ole Miss, they would have to become his legal guardians to satisfy the NCAA. So he apparently knew that if he picked Tennessee, LSU or any college except Ole Miss, they would have never done the conservatorship and he just would have gone on living with them. Michael Oher never complains about the first 2 "fake scenes" because Hollywood's lies make him look like a badass. He never complains about the dining room table "legal guardians" scene not being true because it would show that he knew perfectly well what the purpose of the conservatorship was. And the one where Leigh Anne tells him he doesn't have to pick Ole Miss and he can go to school anywhere he wants to go.... notice that Michael Oher has NEVER called that scene fake.
Great reaction you two. I loved this movie is exact, but I loved it all the same. This movie reminded me of my parents. My mother was EXACTLY like Sandra Bullock portrayed. As per the adoption vs conservatorship the touyes were told that was the route the had to take for oher to be able to attend Mississippi.... that it didnt change michael being considered part of the family... The Tuohys said the conservatorship was the tool chosen to comply with NCAA rules that would have kept Oher from attending the University of Mississippi
Yeah pretty much with any "based on true events" film, just always except dramatization because not everything that is shown in the movie is necessarily a fact. That being said, there's a few films in this category that I genuinely don't mind watching despite the untrue add-ons. The Blind Side, Stronger, Radio, Zero Dark Thirty, Patch Adams, The Pursuit of Happiness, Gran Turismo, Billionaire Boys Club, Deepwater Horizon and The Green Book.
The story of Michael Oher is still going on. He is suing the family and movie people now. Some was accurate but he was always annoyed that they made out like he couldn't play football and they taught him when in reality by middle school he was already a 3 or 4 sport beast. That was Hollywood bs drama that ticked him off. Regardless, he had a great career with the Ravens. But now that football is done, he seems to be going after them for a lot of royalties owed to him that the family collected. Not sure of details, just passing on the gist of what I heard. It's a great movie regardless. Bullock showed a lot of subtle acting chops in this.
Mike played football before going there. That's like the biggest inaccuracy. Also there are movie rights that the Tuoys have that Mike didn't have access to until recently despite it being his story.

His Briarcrest teachers all claim he had the reading skills of an elementary school child and he would hand in tests blank. By chance the one teacher realized that he would do better if she READ the test to him, and that's when he began to improve. Then there are the quotes from his coaches:
_"The problem there, at first, resembled his problems in the classroom. He had no foundation, no idea what he was meant to do as a member of a team. He said he had played football his freshman year at Westwood, but there was no sign of it in his performance._ _When Freeze saw how fast he could move, he pegged him as a defensive tackle. And so for the first six games of the 2003 season, he played defense. He wasn’t any worse than his replacement, but he wasn’t much better either._ _... But during the games he seemed confused. When he wasn’t confused, he was reluctant. Passive, almost. This was the last thing Freeze expected."_
Since he's not very good at defense, they then switch him to offense and the book quotes offensive line coach Tim Long...
_"Long was awed by Michael Oher’s raw ability immediately. “When I first saw him,” he says, “I thought, This guy is going to make us all famous.” But then he coached him in the final games of his junior year, after Michael was moved to right tackle on the offensive line, and Long wondered why he wasn’t a better player. One game, he pulled Michael out and sat him on the bench because he thought the team was better off playing another guy."_
Normally, to get the truth about someone's past... the best person to ask is the person themselves. Not in this case.
Yiu guys need to watch Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullock next!
I'm gliding here! 💃😂
I forgot about those! Awesome movies
Michael Ore said Them teaching him how to play football was embellished for dramatization. He said he already knew how to play football he didn't have to be taught
Oh. I thought he was learning certain plays and that position, not learning from scratch. That would be weird if they made it seem like he didn't know football at all.
The movie NEVER shows them "teaching him how to play football". It shows SJ working on playbook memorization with him. Each season, my brother and I used to quiz each other all the time to help memorize our new plays. Neither one of us would consider that "teaching us how to play football". The film also shows Leigh Anne giving him a 70 second motivational talk about having a protective mindset. Were they helping him with his stance, footwork, leverage, pass blocking, run blocking, driving/double-teaming? NO. The movie did NOT paint him as learning everything about football from the Tuohys. It's a Hollywood movie, not a documentary.... Michael Oher needs to lighten up.
You guys are so much fun!!! One of my favorite parts of the movie didn’t make the edit at the football practice where Sandra Bullock goes to the field and schools everyone! But your reaction vids have become my new obsession so I am a proud new member of the Patreon!!! Also adding an additional vote to the other person who said to react to The Replacements. If you haven’t seen it, I think you will really like it!
(Just because the film made $300 million doesn't mean that is their portion - so I think there may be some confusion... or more information that I am unaware of (obviously.))
Anyway the story is currently in a very sad chapter - for what was (and is) such a sweet story and hopeful movie.
@@ChurchOfTheHolyMhoThey love him so much they made a contract specifically to exclude him from receiving money (it was stipulated that it went to their biological children). What love.
He also said there's a few little things in the movie that just weren't true, like that he couldn't read or never had a bed...
That's added for dramatic effects.
Sandra Bullock also apologized to the Oscars and regrets to recognize this movie as a film she was in because of the dark truth behind it 😢
There is no dark truth, Michael Oher has consistently show himself to lie about his past.

That absolutely ridiculous, I don't care if they've seen the documentary or not. Same event, yes, but the movie has so much depth, you can't take that much of time from it. They would have been better off not even putting the reaction out and leaving it as watching the documentary only.

9:10 "He ain't going to the gym"
A few years back I read that 24-hour gym memberships are actually a decent investment for most homeless people because it's a warm place to spend the night, there are showers, and some gyms even have limited childcare services for members. Not sure if this is still true, though. Shit was different 5 years ago.
During college, I was a the night manager of a 24/7 gym and we definitely had more than a few unhoused folks making use of the facilities. I mean, they had to have a membership for insurance purposes, so it wasn't like any unhoused person could walk in off the streets, as much as I would have liked to give them a helping hand, but our parking lot was certainly friendly to those on the come-up.
Michael Oher sued the Tuohys for this movie, the book and some other stuff. They’ve been estranged for a long while.
I don’t know if you two ever seen KINGPIN, but it’s right up there with your sense of humor. I highly recommend it. You will love it.

12:06 I love the subtle recreation they did of the Thanksgiving dinner scene of the Norman Rockwell painting "Freedom from Want." Has some real deep meaning for this movie.
For the people saying that Michael Oher turned “evil”or that the tuohy family cared and loved him , they didn’t. They used him for money because they had a consevatorship (like britney spears) that he didn’t even know about & It only last year got terminated when he was 35

Thanks for reacting to this movie! ❤️
The thing about the innacuracies is the info came out just last year. Basically, it was about the adoption papers, they found out recently that isn't what they was, it ended up being a conservatorship, the family was making money off dudes name and barely gave him the money from the finances he made
In the autobiography that Michael himself wrote 10 years before the lawsuit, he wrote that he knew it was a conservatorship.

Sadly for those of us without our dads in our lives we know this is how it will be. One day a phone call that he’s died and that’s it. A lifetime that could’ve been spent together, wasted. Once you’re old enough to think about it like this, it’s mostly been worked out and it is what it is. I can’t lie and say I’m healed. It still hurts. I just know how to deal with it now.
DONT YOU DARE LIE TO ME! What a great fucking movie
The part about the bed always gets me😢
This movie is historically inaccurate which pissed off a lot of people, especially those that were involved with making the film. Fans even wanted Sandra Bullock to give back her Oscar for Best Actress
so is braveheart,get over it.
Which is ridiculous. It’s a movie, BASED ON a true story. It’s not a documentary.
That's bullshit. Whether the story is true or not is irrelevant. It's still a good performance.
Very films based on true events are accurate it’s very infuriating and unfortunately not illegal as sometimes the actual film bars no resemblance to the truth but, its a film, it’s not about the truth, its about how believable a character is, both good and bad!
@@kenyonsgirl415 Op's comment is a little vague. It's not that it's just embellished like most movies based on true stories. That line when he said he never had a bed to himself I always tear up on that part I didn't have a bed to myself until I was 13
So strange what a classic this became when most of the events in this movie were completely fabricated.
Thank you! Reading this comments section is so disappointing.
No on is innocent in this story.
maybe, just maybe, he tried to get the money he deserved from the family since they took all his@@sharis9095
Love this movie! You should react to "Misery", It stars Kathy Bates (the lady who plays Michael's tutor in Blind Side). Y'all would enjoy that...I guarantee that!
They did actually, great video.
Inaccuracies:
- The film shows a game where Oher blocks a kid completely off the field, over the track, up off his feet and over a WALL.

Yeah pretty much with any "based on true events" film, just always except dramatization because not everything that is shown in the movie is necessarily a fact. That being said, there's a few films in this category that I genuinely don't mind watching despite the untrue add-ons. this is a good movie regardless of what's accurate or not.
another movie i recommend is Society of the Snow. it was really good.
If they haven't seen it, I recommend I love Friday Night Lights (2004). Tim McGraw is in that one as well.
