I just finished this chili recipe, with one substitute. Instead of ground pork I used sweet Italian sausage. OMG!!! This will now be the ONLY recipe I use. Thank you for this. Delicious!!
You can use ground turkey too. Whatever meat you want to use. It's your chilly and no one can tell you different. There is no rule in cooking or how you want to put in it. Have fun with it.❤
OMG!!!! Let me tell you, I made this chili today 11/7/24 and let me tell you, I loved it. Now, I added my own seasoning to the ground beef, no pork, I made it with beef chuck instead. I follow the recipe exactly, except obviously the seasoning of the meat. It was a little to spicy too my liking, but I did added more sweetener than the recipe said. And it made it come all together. 🤪 one of my favorite chefs on RUclips!!! 🫶🏻
Just wanted to say that I used this recipe with a few personal touches and won 1st place at my works chili cook-off 🏆 the chipotle’s in adobo was groundbreaking
I love your channel and this whole time I’ve been thinking you were Black until my sister told me that you weren’t. I know Black men that look like you so I didn’t know lol!
I made this recipe less the cocoa powder. Added 3 stalks of celery and used ground turkey. I was hesitant on the tomato soup but to my delight this recipe was delicious with a side of corn bread ❤❤ Thank you for sharing. You’re the best MrMakeItHappen.
Instead of tomato soup, I go with the same amount of spaghetti sauce, specifically roasted garlic. Gives you the consistency that the soup gives but gives a lot more flavor since the sauce is already flavored
Here in El Paso, TX Home of authentic Mexican food) we use canned Ranch Style Pinto Beans including the delicious sauce from the can instead of kidney beans.
Just made this last night and I don’t think I’ll ever make it another way! Only thing that was different was I used regular instead of smoked paprika because I realize after getting back from the store that I ran out🤦🏼♀️ either way it’s a banger in my household! My husband and sister were raving about it. Thanks!!
Woooow! I am not a chili fan, but I saw your recipe and I trust your recipes because I have followed them (and still do!) This chili is amazing!!! Thank you for the hard work that you do, and keep them coming. God bless your gift!!!
I'm definitely trying this recipe. Just as a suggestion, I use a pound of ground beef, and a pound of chorizo in my chili. I like the kick and flavor that the beef chorizo adds to the chili. Give it a try and see what you think.
I made this tonight with beef and turkey and without the beer. The chili is so good. I think that the peppers in adobo are the key ingredient. I also used 4 different kinds of peppers. The spice was just right.
I made your crispy beef tacos! They were so good, til I’m never eating a taco anywhere else again! I’m cooking your chili next week. Everything that I make from your channel rocks! Thanks
I LOVE your chili. I tested out your recipe and it came out amazing. I did add MeSaCa to thicken it up. My husband loves "fork" chili; by adding a thickener it made the dish a creamer. It definitely didn't take away from the flavor.
I will be making this tonight...with some honey cornbread 🔥🔥🔥 Update: I did make this to the T and it was a really nice change from Traditional chili. 👍
i always add cinnamon to chili. it helps a lot actually. adds good flavor...i personally wouldn't add more than a 1/4 teaspoon of it though haha I only add cocoa if i'm making a Cincinnati chili. However, don't let cocoa scare you off, just make sure you get it that doesn't have sugar or other additives to it. Pure cocoa (or even just some broken up baking chocolate) can really accentuate a nice savory flavor. Coffee can do similar things
That's the craziest chili recipe I've ever seen. 😮 Coco powder, brown sugar, honey, chipotle in adobo sauce. I gotta try this!!! Gonna follow it to a T Matt.
I've NEVER seen it prepared this way. I'm from Louisville, Ky., we use a chili base here called "Bloomers," it makes chili amazing!!! I'm gonna definitely try it this way and add the Bloomers! Betcha I'll win the chili cook off this year! 😋 😅❤❤❤❤
My wife & I made this recipe and it was great. The only thing we would do differently next time we make it, is half the amount of brown sugar and honey. But, it was delicious.
I’m making this today. But Im with you on the beef & pork but I like heat so I use hot Italian pork sausage & ground beef omg soooooo delicious! & it’s getting Cold in Florida so yes yes yes! I was going to use your short rib recipe I made that one about 8-9months ago but I’ll go traditional today since I already have the pork sausage.
❤❤❤Kudos to you! I made this yesterday night and brooo!! It was sooo freaking good. I was timid about adding that cocoa to it but I am so glad I did!! I made a huge pot of it too, and it didn't even stand a chance. It was gone🎉🎉❤❤ Thank you!😊
Got a feeling I’m gonna dig this version. I also think msg is making a comeback from the bad rap it had back in the day. For one, it has less sodium than salt, secondly, it adds more flavor than salt. Cooking and eating habits can be very hard to change for many folks regardless of what new info becomes available. I’m a true foodie who loves to cook. I’m now trying to incorporate many more ingredients that can combat/offset my family’s health issues. Gonna make the food work for us. Thank you as always my brother. 🥘♥️
You've really come a long way. I remember your videos used to make me kind of get motion sickness. But now they're smooth and clean. And I must add that your content and your recipes themselves have always been fantastic. But your presentation is pristine. Good job man
I’ll be trying this chili this Autumn 🍂, I love a delicious chili. Cilantro along with sour cream and cheddar cheese are good toppings for me. Fritos Scoops are a nice addition as well.
Per usual this was a HIT with my guys!!! Soo good I made it twice in one week!! Left out the beer and sweets and it was sooo yummy!!! You don’t miss!! Thanks soo much!!
This looks delicious! As always, your recipes always bring great flavors together. I will def be trying the cocoa and the cinnamon. And I was like “Yes!” To the brown sugar and honey! You always have to balance the acid in the tomatoes with a little sugar. Thanks for another great recipe.
To- SimplyPositive11- agree! And this is a tip that is key to a successful chili, IMO. But, you can over do it. Me thinks that Mr Make It Happen should include a caution about that, and suggest that home chefs use caution and taste the chili before adding sweeteners, maybe adding no more than 1 tablespoon at a time, and then stirring and then waiting 10-15 minutes, and then tasting the chili, before adding more. In my experience, it takes time before a sweetener "sweetens", and you get an unexpected surprise if you add too much too soon. Unless, of course, you like sweet chili! And there is nothing much wrong with that, I guess. Sort of! Yuck!
@@michaelsalmon6436 I agree. You CAN over do it on the sweetener. Just add a little at a time. I start with 2 Tbsp then I add 1 tablespoon at a time after that to see where things are in taste.
I love that you add ingredients in my favorite chili recipe to your version - the beef and pork and cocoa (mine is Mexican spicy cocoa)! I also like to add dark beer, peanut butter, Hoisin sause, and horseradish. Always fun to try new versions of our favorites! Cheers!
Can confirm it was the best chilli, even with my too much button kicking in with the cocoa powder and cinnamon, still really good!!! Give it a go if you havent already
I do use cinnamon and cocoa powder as well. It just elevates the flavor profile. My secret is to use salsa instead of canned tomatoes and I also add some black beans. I plate it with cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, tortilla chips and a little salsa…. Mmmm good
Guinness instead of Modelo, chick peas instead of beans, poblano instead of jalapeño, and sweet italian sausage with ground beef instead of pork. I do not add cocoa or cinnamon but I’m also not a fan of mole. I use a variation of ground peppers including ancho chili. Will have to try adding tomato soup! Avocados as an additional topping is also perfect!
Tropical Depression Ophelia, this chili and football! On the agenda today! Celebrating much needed rain and cooler weather, keeping in mind those who were affected with flooding from this storm.
Just made some chili the other day and used one of your suggestions from your recipe last year, cinnamon. It made a big difference. I will try this recipe, also
Awesome video. I love your secret tomato soup for consistency. My goto for consistency has always been to add a can of store-bought chili to my big pot to add that thickness, but I like your idea much better! I will definitely try that. And it's much better than me having to explain why I'm adding a can of chili to my homemade chili lolol!
I call this my Make It Happen Chili. Can't give up all my secrets but I don't wanna steal credit. I do it as a chili mac. It's similar to cinci chili so it goes well with the noodles. Only other thing I changed was I put a cup of water with the beef bullion and blended it with the chipotles because just the chipotles weren't enough to get caught up in my blender. The raw jalapenos as a garnish put it over the top.
A great addition is a simple cornbread recipe. 1 box of jiffy cornbread and a jar of queso dip from the chip aisle. Cook it according to the box and it’s amazing!!
That is a killer looking chili! I love all types, but my favorite is still scratch made red from dried chiles. For those who haven't had it, its pretty close to birria taco or homemade enchilada sauces.
...Absolutely.... it's how I make my Chili, as well... if I don't have those on hand, at the very least I make a red Enchilada style sauce base for my Chili .
This looks amazing! I make chili very similar but I use shredded beef cooked in the Instant pot prior for 40 minutes with an Ancho dried chili (Poblano pepper) and about 1/8 cup of beef broth. The flavor is amazing 🎉 Love your videos! Where’s the raw onion on top? 😮 I’ve never tried cocoa powder.. I’m trying it this week
I like to add a jar of Tallerico's sweet and sassy peppers to the party, juice and all. Just chop larger pieces up a little smaller. If you can't find it at your local grocery store, you could use another sweet and spicy pickled pepper. If juice makes it a little more soupy than you like, then use some tomato paste to compensate.
This is slammin, but the Chilli recipe in the new collaborative cook book is the only Chilli to make. Thabks for updating this already delicious Chilli
Ya had me at chili, you stole my soul with just about every other step. Truth, no shortcuts for a good chili. Time is the real secret ingredient. Also, that beer cooked out maybe 8 minutes after you added it, the light flavors remained.
Interesting Tex-mex chili mix. I prefer NM Red Chile or NM Green chile stew. In fact Wednesday I made pot of pinto beans family started coming over oldest child want Red Chile with the beans. I just finished this chili recipe, with one substitute. Instead of ground pork I used sweet Italian sausage. OMG!!! This will now be the ONLY recipe I use. Thank you for this. Delicious!!
Glad I saw your comment bc I was wondering if Italian sausage would be good in chili
Did you taste the cinnamon or coco powder in the finished product?
No I didn't. It just blends nicely.
You can use ground turkey too. Whatever meat you want to use. It's your chilly and no one can tell you different. There is no rule in cooking or how you want to put in it. Have fun with it.❤
