I just finished this chili recipe, with one substitute. Instead of ground pork I used sweet Italian sausage. OMG!!! This will now be the ONLY recipe I use. Thank you for this. Delicious!!
You can use ground turkey too. Whatever meat you want to use. It's your chilly and no one can tell you different. There is no rule in cooking or how you want to put in it. Have fun with it.❤
Just wanted to say that I used this recipe with a few personal touches and won 1st place at my works chili cook-off 🏆 the chipotle’s in adobo was groundbreaking
I will be making this tonight...with some honey cornbread 🔥🔥🔥 Update: I did make this to the T and it was a really nice change from Traditional chili. 👍
Just made this last night and I don’t think I’ll ever make it another way! Only thing that was different was I used regular instead of smoked paprika because I realize after getting back from the store that I ran out🤦🏼♀️ either way it’s a banger in my household! My husband and sister were raving about it. Thanks!!
I love your channel and this whole time I’ve been thinking you were Black until my sister told me that you weren’t. I know Black men that look like you so I didn’t know lol!
Here in El Paso, TX Home of authentic Mexican food) we use canned Ranch Style Pinto Beans including the delicious sauce from the can instead of kidney beans.
I’ll be trying this chili this Autumn 🍂, I love a delicious chili. Cilantro along with sour cream and cheddar cheese are good toppings for me. Fritos Scoops are a nice addition as well.
i always add cinnamon to chili. it helps a lot actually. adds good flavor...i personally wouldn't add more than a 1/4 teaspoon of it though haha I only add cocoa if i'm making a Cincinnati chili. However, don't let cocoa scare you off, just make sure you get it that doesn't have sugar or other additives to it. Pure cocoa (or even just some broken up baking chocolate) can really accentuate a nice savory flavor. Coffee can do similar things
I like a LOT of your recipes. This one just didn't do it for me. I followed the recipe exactly as written. The chipotle in adobo sauce just takes over the taste of the whole dish, so I didn't get the chili taste experience i like with chili.
Instead of tomato soup, I go with the same amount of spaghetti sauce, specifically roasted garlic. Gives you the consistency that the soup gives but gives a lot more flavor since the sauce is already flavored
That's the craziest chili recipe I've ever seen. 😮 Coco powder, brown sugar, honey, chipotle in adobo sauce. I gotta try this!!! Gonna follow it to a T Matt.
I've NEVER seen it prepared this way. I'm from Louisville, Ky., we use a chili base here called "Bloomers," it makes chili amazing!!! I'm gonna definitely try it this way and add the Bloomers! Betcha I'll win the chili cook off this year! 😋 😅❤❤❤❤
Woooow! I am not a chili fan, but I saw your recipe and I trust your recipes because I have followed them (and still do!) This chili is amazing!!! Thank you for the hard work that you do, and keep them coming. God bless your gift!!!
I'm definitely trying this recipe. Just as a suggestion, I use a pound of ground beef, and a pound of chorizo in my chili. I like the kick and flavor that the beef chorizo adds to the chili. Give it a try and see what you think.
I’m having a chili cook off at my crib for my bday in February. I’m following your recipe for mine lol. I live in Chesapeake. You’re invited. Come thru 💯
I made your crispy beef tacos! They were so good, til I’m never eating a taco anywhere else again! I’m cooking your chili next week. Everything that I make from your channel rocks! Thanks
Got a feeling I’m gonna dig this version. I also think msg is making a comeback from the bad rap it had back in the day. For one, it has less sodium than salt, secondly, it adds more flavor than salt. Cooking and eating habits can be very hard to change for many folks regardless of what new info becomes available. I’m a true foodie who loves to cook. I’m now trying to incorporate many more ingredients that can combat/offset my family’s health issues. Gonna make the food work for us. Thank you as always my brother. 🥘♥️
Love your channel bruh but chili originated in Texas and it didn't have beans. So you didn't make chili. You made chili beans...lol. And thats fine too. Just messing bruh...lol. I say cook food the way you like it. If I was at your house and that was served I would eat it. But if you come to mine, you betta bring ya beans with ya.
I've been making chili for years and I've added a few things but not much. I'm one of these people that doesn't care for the toppings because I just want chili and nothing else. Try some Heinz chili sauce some time. A bottle of it improves the taste in my opinion. I do cook a lot of your recipes so keep up the good work.
Awesome video. I love your secret tomato soup for consistency. My goto for consistency has always been to add a can of store-bought chili to my big pot to add that thickness, but I like your idea much better! I will definitely try that. And it's much better than me having to explain why I'm adding a can of chili to my homemade chili lolol!
This looks amazing! I make chili very similar but I use shredded beef cooked in the Instant pot prior for 40 minutes with an Ancho dried chili (Poblano pepper) and about 1/8 cup of beef broth. The flavor is amazing 🎉 Love your videos! Where’s the raw onion on top? 😮 I’ve never tried cocoa powder.. I’m trying it this week
Can confirm it was the best chilli, even with my too much button kicking in with the cocoa powder and cinnamon, still really good!!! Give it a go if you havent already
Wow this looks tasty. I’ve never seen it made with coco powder. Side note, I know this batch of chili was hella spicy bc of those chipotle peppers 🌶️😩, I love spice but those are a different level of spicy imo… or maybe I’m just a light weight 😆😊
Yeah girl, I made his short rib chili last year and followed the recipe. Them chipotle peppers were too hot for me as well. My family loved it, but it was also too spicy for us to enjoy imo.😬
I made this tonight with beef and turkey and without the beer. The chili is so good. I think that the peppers in adobo are the key ingredient. I also used 4 different kinds of peppers. The spice was just right.
Dear Mr., made your chili following your recipe exactly. Possibly the worst chile we’ve ever had! - too spicy, too sweet, and the cinnamon was just unbearable! Added a few cans of Hormel canned chili to make it somewhat edible. Hate to throw away food so will freeze in small batches to combine with pasta, rice, soup , etc ….. I usually like your recipes; but certainly not this one.
Love pork, but not combined with ground beef. Not is spaghetti sauce nor chili. Using turkey in anything should be illegal! Pinto beans instead of kidney beans. The texture is softer and the flavor is better.
You make me smile, because I use Kidney Beans all the time and said that I want to try Pinto Beans in the next pot that I make, in fact I am going to use BOTH!!! ( - ;
Guinness instead of Modelo, chick peas instead of beans, poblano instead of jalapeño, and sweet italian sausage with ground beef instead of pork. I do not add cocoa or cinnamon but I’m also not a fan of mole. I use a variation of ground peppers including ancho chili. Will have to try adding tomato soup! Avocados as an additional topping is also perfect!
This looks delicious! As always, your recipes always bring great flavors together. I will def be trying the cocoa and the cinnamon. And I was like “Yes!” To the brown sugar and honey! You always have to balance the acid in the tomatoes with a little sugar. Thanks for another great recipe.
To- SimplyPositive11- agree! And this is a tip that is key to a successful chili, IMO. But, you can over do it. Me thinks that Mr Make It Happen should include a caution about that, and suggest that home chefs use caution and taste the chili before adding sweeteners, maybe adding no more than 1 tablespoon at a time, and then stirring and then waiting 10-15 minutes, and then tasting the chili, before adding more. In my experience, it takes time before a sweetener "sweetens", and you get an unexpected surprise if you add too much too soon. Unless, of course, you like sweet chili! And there is nothing much wrong with that, I guess. Sort of! Yuck!
@@michaelsalmon6436 I agree. You CAN over do it on the sweetener. Just add a little at a time. I start with 2 Tbsp then I add 1 tablespoon at a time after that to see where things are in taste.
I made this twice, first time I thought I added to much cinnamon, the second time, I realized it's the peppers I don't like! Not the heat, the taste! I'm not making this style of chili again!!!
Followed your recipe very closely and used this as an excuse to have modelo time while cooking. This shit is bussin fr no way im not takin 1st place at work tomorrow 😂
I LOVE your chili. I tested out your recipe and it came out amazing. I did add MeSaCa to thicken it up. My husband loves "fork" chili; by adding a thickener it made the dish a creamer. It definitely didn't take away from the flavor.
❤❤❤Kudos to you! I made this yesterday night and brooo!! It was sooo freaking good. I was timid about adding that cocoa to it but I am so glad I did!! I made a huge pot of it too, and it didn't even stand a chance. It was gone🎉🎉❤❤ Thank you!😊
I love that you add ingredients in my favorite chili recipe to your version - the beef and pork and cocoa (mine is Mexican spicy cocoa)! I also like to add dark beer, peanut butter, Hoisin sause, and horseradish. Always fun to try new versions of our favorites! Cheers!
That is a killer looking chili! I love all types, but my favorite is still scratch made red from dried chiles. For those who haven't had it, its pretty close to birria taco or homemade enchilada sauces.
...Absolutely.... it's how I make my Chili, as well... if I don't have those on hand, at the very least I make a red Enchilada style sauce base for my Chili .
I just finished this chili recipe, with one substitute. Instead of ground pork I used sweet Italian sausage. OMG!!! This will now be the ONLY recipe I use. Thank you for this. Delicious!!
Glad I saw your comment bc I was wondering if Italian sausage would be good in chili
Did you taste the cinnamon or coco powder in the finished product?
No I didn't. It just blends nicely.
You can use ground turkey too. Whatever meat you want to use. It's your chilly and no one can tell you different. There is no rule in cooking or how you want to put in it. Have fun with it.❤
I just saw a recipe that used spicy sausage too. This is my next mod
Just wanted to say that I used this recipe with a few personal touches and won 1st place at my works chili cook-off 🏆 the chipotle’s in adobo was groundbreaking
This is the reason I’m here lol I’ve never made chili and we have a work cook off for it in two months
With my touches I got 3rd in a chili cookoff. 2nd place was meh! The winner that time deserved it with a weird but delicious curry chili!
Oh man, I thought I had a good chili recipe, but this looks 100 times better! Definitely gonna try this one very soon.
🔥🔥
I will be making this tonight...with some honey cornbread 🔥🔥🔥
Update: I did make this to the T and it was a really nice change from Traditional chili. 👍
This chili recipe looks unique and tasty. I will be trying it out with less spice for the wimps in my family 😅

I love that you didn’t have to use a thickener like a slurry for your chili. I’m going to try this simply bc I love the consistency.
I've never seen chilli made with cocoa and cinnamon but you made it look so tasty 😋 I'll have to try this recipe ...Looking good ❤

Cinnamon rolls on the side
Strange how many people have never had cinammon rolls as a side with chili. And I was one of them until about 15 yrs ago!
Not sure what the cocoa powder does, but I will try it😋
It’s common in Mexican mole and other recipes
It adds complexity. You don't notice a taste of chocolate, and it's not sweet. But it does add flavor.
lol good. I eat mine with scoops and pico or salsa. Those crispy fried onions are a great idea..
I like to put my chilli over white rice absolutely delicious
I feel like you just threw whatever you had in your cabinet together 😂

So there, take that you “no bean” chili cooks. Beans are delicious. This is a must try but I’ll probably cut back a little on the heat! YUM!
Now I think that Chilli should be in a contest looking good... now I'm a Chilli person and thought I make one of the best but I think you did that ...
CINNAMON!!! in chilli!! NO NO NO what sacrilege is this. Also I do think you’re 🔥

Some folks in the comments? Someone needs a litt!e schooling on msg. You probably.use Crisco and "vegetable" oil.
