- In this video I am going to be designing a Villian original character for my fairy world universe that I've been working on. I will also be drawing character designs for other characters and creatures. I create these sketches and illustrations in Clip Studio Paint.

You could make the strangler fig an off shoot of the tree people! Maybe the villain was raised by these tree people so his magical powers changed to be more like his family?

I was thinking of the same idea! And I thought maybe as a way of fleshing out the tree people and distinguish them from koroks is that they can be seen by everyone but they don’t talk (either by choice or because they simply can’t). Perhaps they have a a leader of sorts, or just one tree person that speaks for them (lol this sounds like the Lorax but no-) and this ability to speak is passed on through a leader system of sorts. The strangler fig is kind of like a distant relative of the tree people Pariah lives around and they’ve heard rumors/myths/legends about him. Many of the tree people have drawings of their interpretation of him and also the stories they’ve heard passed down about him. Maybe he’s like the boogy man of the tree people lol.
Pariah is already struggling enough with not having magic, so when some of the young tree people can’t talk to her guardian about what’s happening (maybe strangler fig is coming and they know) they try to tell Pariah through gestures and drawings. They go to her partly because she’s the leader’s daughter but also because she’s one of the only fairies they’re comfortable interacting with. Pariah kinda half pays attention but she’s heard about these myths before and she shrugs it off because she’s a bit tunnel visioned on figuring out her magic.
Okay idk that was just a large dump of ideas I got from Bekah’s cool designs! Lol I hope some of it is interesting and makes sense. I also just loved picturing a scene where the tree people are desperately trying to explain to Pariah what’s happening and under normal circumstances she can usually understand what they’re trying to say, but they’re so frantic that she’s just sitting on a stump watching them gesture and draw in the dirt and grunt and she’s just like “?????” LOL

Maybe Kuro could be a mixed species. That way, you can keep him as a strangler fig and a fairy-elf like character at the same time. It could also build some backstory with like scrutiny or judgment or something. Maybe he resents his other side for causing him so much anguish, and that might be a little sub motivation for why he wants to take over the island with tropical plants as revenge or something. He learned to love himself and inturn hate those who hated him.
I love this idea! Maybe half breeds are frowned upon or something.

14:29 Great idea! Maybe he was possessed by the vest, which made him a lot more vengeful, turned him evil, and made him very powerful. He was probably on the search for his vest to use it’s extreme power. The evil gem was probably brought from the future to the present in some magical way, probably using dark magic.
adding onto that, the idea of him being a half breed & therefore being socially outcasted would be a great narrative parallel to Pariah! BOTH of them didnt belong and were scrutinized their communities, except that Pariah was able to find friends and had people to rely on, while Kuro was all alone (perhaps thats what made him turn to using the dark amulet/dark magic thingy? it called to him and his insecurities when he was a young lonely boy and he let it consume him bcuz of that)

Maybe the villain exists as a type of parasite for the tree people, since the strangler fig is *technically* a type of tree, but it has negative consequences for the actual *trees* that it surrounds. Maybe he can shapeshift into a tree-person-looking figure to entice them almost, and maybe that's partly why he's that powerful? And the fact that the strangler fig grows from the top of, and then down trees could be played as the villain being super tall and preying on the tree people (in this case, he's have to be even taller than them.) Not too sure though, since I'm not too familiar with this world or storyline.

For the villains clothes you could make him have the cape but in some moments in the story, like in a fight for exemple, you could have him take off the cape and have the other outfit beneath

Idea for Koru: Your usual style is quite round, and I feel like that is what's making it hard to get the right feel for him. Maybe trying to incorporate some of the anti-style you made that one time could help? Love his design by the way. Maybe for the neckpiece it could appear like old cracked stone being held together by strangler fig vines! :D

What if there are tree fairies whose purpose is to take care of the tree people since they are so rare? So that there can be tree fairies, but they don’t necessarily grow trees, rather nurture and take care of the tree people

I have an idea! The mushroom people don’t sleep, they get their energy from sunlight or something. So their rooms look different from everyone else’s since they don’t have beds :)

Actually, it would make the least sense for the mushroom people to do that because mushrooms are fungi, not plants ∴ they don't photosynthesize. They're sapotrophs which means they basically secrete digestive enzymes onto dead stuff
Edit: actually in general I think mushroom people would be the least related to the others
For the tree people, I suggest Arborites or Arborians, whichever suits you (Arbor Day was the idea).
Koru looks great! The strangler fig sounds like the perfect plant for a villain to grow. And I like how you incorporated the roots into his limbs-it looks so cool and creepy!

I like villain concept. I've searched about the Stangler Fig and here's what I found...
"The growth process of strangler figs can be murderous, leading to the death of its host, and earning it the Spanish nickname, 'matapalo' (tree-killer)."
So you can keep the tree people that maybe you can call "Treants/Ents" (the most common, I just can't get creative rn. Srry). Anyway, keep the tree people and make them fear Koru, a former wise tree man that is tricked by a strangler fig that consumes his life force but with his willpower survived but became a Strangler Fig himself that is now forces consumes other tree people's life force to increase his power. (Close to a vampire thing.)
Just a bit of suggestion.
I've been writing some action stories so... Yea, thats what comes to mind.
Maybe the villain uses the tree people's power and that’s why they are rare. They are slowly being killed because of this :D

Maybe you could include the tree people by having koru feed off tree people's energy or something, and that's how he ties into trees without being a tree person, and it could be that one other reason that the tree people aren't common is because koru keeps taking their energy, which in results kills them, but of course they still do turm into trees. This was my take on it I guess

13:11 What a coincidence, I actually have an antagonist character in my story that's also named Koru XD
My headcanon is that Koru is doing what he does for what he believes to be the greater good, for example his home and plants could be endangered because of the climate, so he's forced to steal from others. He isn't necessarily straight up evil, just doing what he thinks is best for his own and justifiable, like "the ends justify the means", because he deep down believes that and is not doing it out of cruelty. I love complex and misunderstood villains, like good and evil aren't stable and clear roles
Maybe Koru's stone is a tree people artifact? Like he originally grew some other tropical plant but upon learning of the gem's power he steals it for his plans. Also I had originally thought the tree people wood have been like gentle giants because of just how big trees are.

I think the tree people can still exist alongside the tree fairies! If you just have them be cute beings that exist and maybe are companions to the tree fairies, that could make the world feel a little fuller. Perhaps part of the tree fairies coming of age is to help a tree person bloom or reach maturity as an elder? Also, I think they should be called the Barkians, because you know tree bark. Loving the world concept, and I can't wait to see what else you do with it!

Maybe the Tree people are an entirely different kind of creature, and it still leaves the possibility to have tree fairies. Tree fairies would grow trees and tree people could be a different kind that either could be born from trees coming from powerful fairies or simply imply that there is different ways to do thing ? I think its fine to add something you like even if it isnt completely explained anyways haha
Or they could be guardians/tenders to the trees. Protect saplings and help them grow, since I imagine growing trees would take a lot of magic for one fairy. Could also imply some tree people henchmen for Koru.
Here’s an idea that might allow you to keep the tree people and have Kori’s origin make sense. Maybe he was an elder tree person, but didn’t want to die and become a regular tree. So maybe in a desperate attempt to prolong his life, he made a contract with someone who grows a poisonous plant of some kind, it could be a neutral character like a secluded wizard or something. And through the contract he obtained his gem, which turned him into the firm he has now, giving him the body of a royal while still keeping his strangler fig roots, and allows him to use magic. This would make him younger and give him the ability to try and shape the island the way he sees fit. If you like this idea you’re welcome to change or expand on it, but thought this could be interesting.
also you could have the strangler fig be classified as a non tree in your story's world or have it be a magical variant from the actual strangler fig plant

Kind of a random idea but what if Koru was born dying(?), kinda like a princess Yue situation from ATLA, where he didn't cry when he was born. So, in order to save him, his parents fed him a seedling (as the seedling can represent life or new beginnings) which would eventually gave him his tree like powers. It would also kinda explain why he feeds off other trees since he quite literally did that in order to live. (Y'know, now that I think about it, him eating a seedling kinda sounds weird but uhm... let's just pretend it isn't)
Koros personality type seems like it would be very cold and Realistic, and doesn’t like showing much emotion! he gives off those vibes, I love him! ❤❤
i think you can keep the tree people not only because it's the most adorable thing I've ever seen but also because a strangler fig isn't actually a tree but some sort fig vein that feeds of trees
I think you could make Koru’s vest look more ‘natural’ by just giving it a tree bark texture.
The tree people turning into trees when dead reminded me of the gnomes in Keeper of the lost cities!

Idk how fairy births work, but maybe the villain could be part tree part fairy? Like maybe a fairy gave their life force to a tree person’s seed and it made him? Or the other way around? Or he could be a descendant of someone like that and it could be a source of hate because the unnatural mix resulted in a dangerous entity that can't create but instead absorb magic?

Im thinking about the mushroom people’s “lack of bone structure” could contribute to them being able to stick themselves to places or things, or maybe even make themself stiff so they can sleep upright. The second and third creatures designs are super adorable. And the first tree creature looks like something that could fit in a nightmare before Christmas kind of world. But yeah, I really love your tree creature designs!
Keep the tree people, since the villain is a Stranger Fig maybe he strangles the tree people and steal their nutritions and killing them to increase his live force energy and maybe that's the reason why he's so powerful(Side note: I am not stealing a comment, I am just inspired by sye)
I'm personally tired of the redemption for villains or sympathetic villains, their getting really repetitive, I miss villains who just stayed bad. Ofcourse that's just me.

Nlg I like the think you should add gnomes to plant trees, and the villain kinda was a half gnome half elf- or fairy that was weak so was disowned and found a cool magic amulet-stone thing that was a like idk like cursed by a dark god that was banished by the gods using the center tree. (So he doesn’t need to be really bad just being manipulated and controlled.)
For the flower house you could make the roots stairs with their leaves/thorns to a secod floor and maybe a room in the ground? I feel like it make a bit more sense as why they would "waste" space for the roots😅
Also maybe if Koru needs to go somewhere without people seeig his black sclera he can where his cape with a hood, though im not sure its a good idea since he wants to be known?

ooooo! i really like koru already ❤️. for his vest thing, maybe you could have the root/branches wrap around his neck and like go down in an upside down v shape in front and wrap back around under his wings (sorry if this doesn’t make sense)so it’s still modest. OOO OO and have the gem over his heart so it’s like- stronger :D
Odd idea, but you can make your villain half tree person and half fairy, so maybe in his backstory he could’ve been an outcast from society because of his heritage 😉. This could also be a moral parallel to Pariah since they are both outcasts.

Maybe the pot could be a front gate? It could be hollow on the inside with no bottom so the roses would still be able to set their roots in the ground? And the ideas you have for the tree people are so fascinating!! What if they resembled different kinds/species of trees (I'm just obsessed with the idea of a bonsai tree person now lol) Since trees provide homes for animals, what if some had tiny little creatures living on or inside their bodies? What would a child between different kind of "growers" look like? Since mushrooms can also grow on trees, I think having that incorporated as part of a hybrid tree/mushroom design would be really cool! Since the story is on an island, are there undersea creatures that grow things like coral, seaweed, etc? As for Koru being a magic using strangler fig, maybe there could be a "talent vs skill" dichotomy amongst the characters where Koru was able to learn magic through his own willpower and hard work and him overexerting himself could be fueled by a subconscious desire of proving he has worth despite not being born a magic user and he could have found or created the stone himself to show his determination. I think a talent/skill conflict could be a fun diversion from good/evil plots and it could also influence Pariah since she's an outcast for not knowing what plant she grows
....sorry, I feel like I'm taking over your story when I don't mean to 😅 I hope I'm not annoying or bumming you out but gosh it sounds really cool and hearing all these ideas is inspiring my own creativity as a storyweaver! Also as someone who lives in Florida, I see strangler figs on a pretty regular basis so it's really cool seeing you design a character inspired by it since I don't think I've ever seen that before~

I love the cape. Also even if the villain doesn't look as intimidating that could make them a lot more dangerous. Maybe at some point he would remove the cape and everyone would notice how much of a toll it took on him.

For Koru, I have an idea. Since some trees flower and produce fruits, you could make it so that tree people still exist, but the trees that flower also have a corresponding fairy. Then, maybe Koru was the fairy for the fig flower on a strangling fig and there was also a tree person for the strangling fig, but Koru "took over" them and consumed their power for himself (I don't know what all your lore is, feel free to play with this).
Also again this is my absolute favorite type of video from you, watching you develop your own OCs and worlds! It's so fun following your progress and seeing all of these wonderfully creative ideas come to life!
An idea for the mushroom people. When they're sleeping they could sleep standing and there feet connect with the ground, making them look like literal giant mushroom. It could add some cool way of them disguising themselves or something.

I love this world you’re building! So cool. One idea for the strangler fig villain is that maybe not every tree type is a tree person. Maybe the strangler fig was nonsentient, but some magic accident or curse made a particular vein manifest as this guy. That could explain why he is unique maybe! Just an idea. You got this!
maybe the tree fairies could be nomadic people and the little trees could be more like an animal? the fairies could be ranches for the little tree people? i just really love the tree people and wanna see them included tbh lol-
It sounds like the strangler fig is a type of parasite maybe because of that reason the villain is different than the tree people. It could also open up the possibility of having other characters based from parasitic entities which could be really cool for the story.

For the plant houses you could make the roots hang from the ceilling or something.
About Koru's design, firstly I wanted to say he came to be was very impressive and cool caracter and villain, but I think you could reuse the idea of the cape as a second design (as I thought it looked very good too) like in a moment of mystery he was using the cape to convey a more frightening feeling, and when he reveals the jewel and with the vines around his body it is a more villainous, threatening and even strange moment due to the not so natural and futuristic shape of its design.
Anyway, he has a villain vibe that I thought was really cool, and his design was really good Becca
If the strangler fig has fruits, then it should flower and technically fall under the fairies category. Maybe the tree people need to cooperate with the fairies to make fruit trees (Which is why they don’t have many offspring) and Koru is powerful enough to grow his own flowers AND tree without the need for a tree person
You could make the tree people the villain's henchmen? They could be a race made by the villain. Created to serve. I don't know it's kind of dark but I think that's a great idea.
Maybe the villain was born with flower growing magic and thought that it was a weak power so he used some kind of dark magic to change his own magic.

In most fantasy stories/movies when the villain uses too much magic they get infected so I feel like keeping the tree people and his concept works actually very logically. In my opinion anyway.
Depending on if this is the direction ur going in, you could have during like a final battle with koru, the stone around his neck shatters, causing strangler wood things to encase his entire body, as a final form/power up

Your tree people concept is amazing! I love how you added the swirls in the belly. Trees gain more rings when it gets older, so you can tell how old a tree was by counting the rings. As for the names, maybe Ligniter? (it's a combination of Latins words "lignum" and "iter". Basically translates to "timberwalkers")
You could take the Steven Universe route with this story and have Pariah or a different character work with Koru to have him be less evil. Still can be a villian, but also a beloved character!
I seriously love this so much! The villain looks amazing, and his concept is great! I really love the concept for the tree people, too. The little grass dragonfly is adorable, but we also liked the jellyfish idea. I love your videos. Watching this, in particular, is so inspiring and really fires me up to want to work on my own story! For Kuro, I am glad that you did the vest thing instead of the cloak because the cloak covered up most of him and made him look a little bit... goofy maybe? but the wrapping vines vest looks very cool and the glowing orb adds some uniqueness to his design :) If you wanted it to look less futuristic, I would suggest making it asymmetrical! since that's an easy way to make something look more organic.
Anyway I LOVE your OC/worldbuilding content and am looking forward to more ^^
10:38 since he is a villain maybe he uses "tree magic" as in he stole it from the tree people. There could be a nice backstory of how he didn't go any magic and got so jealous he stole the magic of a tree person.
It's just an idea and cliche but would make the story interesting.
I started thinking a bit after watching the struggle with the mask or the face not looking intimidating and I thought of ideas! My first thought was having his face scarred or like covered in moss, my second idea was having the strangler fig morph into his face to match that theme of him like overworking himself with his magic and turning into the plant?
This is just an idea so you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to but I thought I should share it incase you like it or gives you an idea!

Maybe one of Korus abilities is actually the ability to take another fairy’s life force and that ability comes in the form of the strangler tree fig. This would ultimately lead to the fairy’s death or extreme weakness and more power for him at the cost of being strangled. The only reason it takes on the form of a tree fig is because he killed a tree person and the tree person cursed him.

The villain growing strangler figs instead of flowers could be a great idea to add to a backstory

You can make koru capture the tree people by strangling them with there powers. Strangling them makes koru more powerful and makes his wings bigger.

Here's an idea for the villain and tree people (though it is a bit dark so you don't have to.)
Since the strangler fig, "strangles" trees, and you said that the tree people are "rare"😅.
You could say that the tree people used to be everywhere, but recently they have gone into hiding because of the villain😮. In order to take over the powerful source plant, the villain needs a LOT of magic. So he takes the magic (or life force) of the tree people 😢.
Since you haven't figured out if the antagonist is a fairy or tree peep. You could say that he is a new species that came from elsewhere and he wants to rule over this new place.
(Hence the evil activity)
And because no one has seen his kind, and he looks similar to the fairies, the tree peeps think he's a fairy. And now are hiding from the fairies and/or very hostile to them.
This is all before Koru finds the magic stone.
