- Ras Happa and the Akwaaba Drummers perform traditional Afro - Caribbean rhythms for Jamaican televison. Rhythms played are the Juba (Haiti), Maroon (Jamaica) and Tambo (Jamaica).

The day before my wedding, the drummers cancelled their performance at the wedding. This was a devastating development because it would have been a missed opportunity to showcase our people's beautiful, soulful, passionate, energizing culture, and we were against the wire to figure out what the wedding party would come down the aisle to. I was so happy to find this musical performance/recording online later that afternoon/evening! This will be my forever favorite because my family, friends, husband and myself strut, danced, and introduced our union with our loved ones and world to this music; and anyone in the proximity leant out the window and looked through and over the bushes to see what phenomenal party was going down over there! Major thanks to this amazing band for sharing such beautiful, lively music and culture with the world! 🖤🙏🏿👑🌷💛
I have all of the drums.and play and put my ancestors and my spirit to give respect and honor to the trees spirit that have permission to the drum maker to cut it down to make the drums and to the drum maker whose ancestors and he carved the shell to make the Djembes etc and to the goat or cow that gave their souls to become the hide to cover the drum for sound the man the made the iron rings and gave the cords that holds the drum together for the drums are no drums are nothing but parts of different energies waiting to be joined together.and cannot make a sound until the ropes holds them together the spirit of the rope is the great power that brings all of the spirits that sacrificed to make all of the spirits to become one and serve their purpose and that goat skin carries their voices through the universe.its how i feel and hear many messages and stories coming from than for each one that plays them gives tha stories of their hurts,pains,joy peace and happiness.all are different even if they play the same tune together no drum has the same sound ASE!!!! Hope this made sense

Trinidad African Drumming is very similar to this type of drumming where most Afro-Jamaican ancestors were
from Ashanti tribe in Ghana while most Afro-Trinidadian ancestors were from the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria. Orisha
the Yoruba religion has a big following in Trinidad & Tobago since the days of slavery and practice they faith under
cover of Christianity . The Trinidad Orisha play the drums with both sticks and hands just like the Nigerians and
Ghanaians and have there own style but similar to the Nigerians. If you are interested in hearing Trinidad Orisha

Most Afro-Jamaicans ancestors where from the Ashanti tribe in Ghana and past down to them
by there ancestors or it is in there blood line. It is not about diversity, it is purely an African thing and
tradition and it is a not Jamaica thing per say but an Afro-Jamaica thing only. No white man can play
African drums ,there do not have the riddim in them..
They are less than 1% of Jamaica's population
