- Galactica has been at Alton Towers for over 20 years, it’s undergone a retheme, the addition of virtual reality which was SO successful! And especially recently, lots and lots of downtime. The ride seems to break every other minute. With the whole of forbidden valley being totally transformed into a new heavily themed phalanx, military facility… what’s next for Galactica? I discuss this and even build my own version in this video!

I had an idea the other day: PHALANX FLIGHT TRAINING
The audio would be:
“The Nemesis is out of control. You, and your crew must operate these Phalanx flight Vehicles, armed with the best nemesis-tranqualising devices, and try to contain the nemesis. Good luck Cadets.”
Carts would be black and red, with fake turrets mounted to the end seats.
The track would be Black, with silver supports.
It would again be themed to the Nemesis, and would have sections (the inversions) where the nemesis flips you upside down.

Although the red and black would be nice, I think a dark blue track with black supports would work really well. We have to remember on the side of the Coca Cola station they painted the Phalanx logo a dark blue so it could be hinting to a repaint. It would also make it more unique than the same colours as Nemesis lol

Definitely agree with your first option: theme to a fighter jet, repaint and tidy up the layout, and could definitely bring back the Air name which is great because a third name would be too much and Galactica doesn't fit at all.
It's 22 years old, a retheme to last about 7 years would be perfect and I think it's too young to close unless there's major issues we don't know about
I think it's got alot of life in it yet. I'm no engineer, but I remember Corkscrew; it was clanky and very uncomfortable near the end, it beat you up when you went on it. Galactica still feels very smooth and isn't half as noisy.
Air: escape
Reallllllllly (hope you get the idea) want to see Galatica come back as air, but how it was originally suppose to feel like. It was meant to be an oasis at the bottom of the valley. Kinda what the valley was meant to have been like before Nemesis arrived. Due to the project going over budget, they never really added the tropical planting and waterfalls, but I think they could easily add those elements back.
They brought Sub-Terra back, they’re potentially bringing Ripsaw back….
Maybe they’ll bring Air back? It fit more with the forbidden valley theme than Galactica. They could reuse the old concept art?
I feel like galactica is a better name like I love the word so much but might just be me

I want them to add more theming to Air. If you watch the ads for Air from 2001/2002, the rocks look so cool and it’s an oasis. Like imagine if they did something with the concrete tunnel 😭.

I’m at Alton towers right now and it’s my first time at a theme park and I rely wanted to go on galactica but it’s closed. It’s the reason why I came to Alton towers

I hope Galactica stays the same space theme but it just gets extra space theme like more portals, planets, and tons of cool theme. Also a better preshow and a backstory of its the hero fighting nemmy, I love the colour clash of red and blue in forbidden valley

Ive not been to Alton Towers for nearly 20 years. In the early 00s i had a season pass and went almost every week. I watched them build air and it instantly became my favourite coaster. Yes i know its not intense and its quite tame but the engineering and smootness blew me away. The way the trains seem to glide over the track is beautiful to watch. It would be a real shame for Alton Towers to remove it completely as it was a remarkable achievement to get people into the flying position and even though its not the huge icon that Nemesis is, its still the original first true flying coaster built anywhere in the world. I imagine the air track is not subjected to the same amount of stress that Nemesis is so perhaps theres still a fair bit of life left in it yet? A good overhaul and re-theme could give it a new lease of life for another 10 years
I would love to keep galactica because it is such a good ride,and is a good ride to start the day and lots of people like it too.But if it had a retheme to something along the lines of “galactica attack on nemesis” it could be loved by the people who like it and by the people who maybe dislike it.

i don't think they would paint it red because forbidden valley is already red I think they will paint it blue and I don't think they will replace it because its the uk only flying coaster
I saw Spinjam on the Funfair Circuit yesterday!
I went to Alton Towers the day Air opened, but didn't go on it because the queue was insane, it quite literally spanned the whole park. On the plus side it was relatively quick to get on all of the other rides because like 80% of the people there were seemingly waiting to get on Air.
that new coaster idea and build looks amazing especially if they had the trains designed like fighter jets like you said. i would 100% ride that several times

My personal opinion: Project ocean's tunnel will serve to break up the area, so Galactica becomes part of its own land. Relocate the nemmy shop into R-CADE and you have a space area on one side and forbidden valley on the other. Makes sense as they don't have costs of a retheme, and Galactica has had some tlc alongside new merch so looks like it's sticking around. You've also got the issue of the rollercoaster restaurant which towers won't want to retheme so I think that is the likely option.

I honestly don't get why people insist that Galactica needs to be tied into the Phalanx stuff.
Oblivion and The Smiler aren't tied together story wise, but they work in the same area because they are the same 'theme'. I don't really see the difference regarding Galactica.
Ever since the air retheme I've thought of forbidden Valley as the sci-fi-y area, so it feels like it works for me. Two different stories and two stark different colours.They're far enough away from eachother that it isn't distracting as well.
If it was paired with the oroginal nemesis id agree, but nemesis reborn has had the whole valleyntransform. the enttrance sign is literally the phalanx facility and galactica is in the nemesis containment zone. galactica, a space theme in a zone to contain nemesis makes no sense.
X Sector works because The Smiler and Oblivion both have very similar themes, both are dark government like facilities but what they do is different, but they have the same vibe, they make sense to be together. Galactica makes absolutely 0 sense where it is. Air was considered the calm part of the valley but now thats lost

Unpopular opinion!!!! Galactica is my favorite ride at towers😅😅. As someone who mainly visits for the signs and designs of the park(I am genuinely terrified of the feeling of being on a coaster) I LOVE galactica! I feel like it is a perfect ride for people who just don’t enjoy the intensity of roller coasters but still want to join in on the fun! Plus it makes you feel like your truly flying and the restraints are the most comfortable I’ve ever worn! LONG LIVE GALACTICA!!!
This might be an unpopular opinion but I think they should bring the VR back. Virtual Reality tech has improved so much since the ride integrated it and now they could definitely achieve the flying through space experience they tried to create back when the technology wasn't at a point where that was possible. Or if they do change the theme entirely to fit the theme of the area, a ride where you need to escape Nemesis while the VR shows you narrowly avoiding falling debris and attacks from the creature would be so cool.

To have a little fun, I think a Mack Extreme Spinner or the Intamin Spinning coaster like the one going to Universal Hollywood, since a traditional Intamin LSM Blitz coaster with a tophat would be too high unless they were to dig down ALOT and then have the tophat go up to the tallest tree in that area!!

I think air needs a re theme for sure. Not a bad idea for it you suggested. I’d suggest to make air (yes I don’t call it galactica as I’ve always known it as air) a testing facility to see if you are worthy in joining the phalanx group. As in its a training facility to learn how to become a member. Idk storyline could be nemesis is being too difficult to study and keep held prisoner by the coaster and they need new recruits to help and discover more about nemesis.
I love these ideas so much but I’m not ready to say goodbye to Galactica it’s my favourite ride-
Serious question - when was the last time any of you saw Galactica using both sides of the station, do the switch tracks / 3 trains actually still work? Then realistically they don't have the money to replace/retrack, but it would make sense for 2025 to have a new flat ride, and a full retheme for A.I.R. Then Project Horizon for 2026. As others have mentioned I believe the new theme will be a deep blue as per the repainted FV vending machine area

I don't think that galactica will be themed to the phalanx. The new flat ride ha an entrance archway which could be to a new themed area with the new flat, galactica and something in the galactica carpark. I think that having the whole area as Nemesis remove the individuality of galactica and would make the area feel boring considering the idea it's forbidden valley. In addition the entrance archway to forbidden valley uses tentacles which could suggest galactica being separated from the area!
I hope that they retheme Galactica and dont replace it. Its the only flying coaster in the UK and it's unique. Would be really cool if they made it a phalanx fighter jet theme

I really hope it could stay for longer, given that I have not yet gone on it yet! Fingers crossed it stays for slightly longer, (but really though, it needs a repaint.)
I think the track will still be blue because one of the stands with vending machines is M-A1X Red on nemesis side, but M-A1X Blue on galactica side
I can now confirm that at Drayton manor the wave now has a billboard and Alton towers might be getting redwood trees which grow to 300 ft
I think they will make the storyline nemesis themed. Like a space ship going to find the nemesis egg on a planet or smth weird like that.
either retheme or wait a few more years and add a new-gen vekoma flying coaster which would fit phalanx theme better imo and be better for marketing than just another retheme.
Told by a member of staff yesterday Dan that this is last year of it and it’s being changed she didn’t say anymore than that other than this is defo last year for it
for your third option, a few changes I would make. I would still keeping it as a flying coaster, but change the design of the track and increase the speed, with a different theme. Alton towers still needs a flying coaster, we can't get rid of it
To be honest, I think Galactica could be replaced. The only bad thing about this choice is the flying feature disappearing. If it stays, the ride could have a lot of potential, especially as a fighter jet or something! I just really enjoy the flying feature as it is pretty unique! :)
They should do a good vs evil theme: Nemesis as the evil creature in black and red, Galactica as the angle white and light blue. Oh and call it air again, and get Heroes chocolates back to sponsor it like the good old days as nostalgia is so hot right now
Nahh, don't talk bad about my favorite ride like that. Air is awesome, it might not be the best flying coaster in the world at all, but it's one we have here at home in the UK! It's a great coaster. Not everything has to be about high g force intense rides. I have ridden this back to back with Nemesis many times and I still prefer Air over it - both are awesome of course.
To me, Air "Galactica" sums up what a roller coaster is about, absolute fun and a feeling of flying with great views. Agreed though it's in dire need of some love and "re"theming!!!
Personally I'd have had the ride depart the same direction with an inclined launch where the lift was. Go into a roll, follow the first turn then into a super long Gotham-esk stall. Cool layout tho
They should make it seem that nemesis is spreading like placing track close to Galactica then paint it red and black
I should get a re theme to fit nemesis and it could be a ‘portal’ to Nemi’s world as it’s a Sci-fi beast
If I were the towers Id retheme it to be a 'decomtamination' theme...load you in and spray you as you go through the ring...add in a load of screens talking about nemesis 'spores' etc...simple, cheap and linked thematically to the area

Make it into an aircraft carrier theme or an airforce base. Make the ride like you are pulling hard G’s like you are in a fighter jet.. pulling loops, corkscrews.. watch top gun maverick for some ideas.. I’d incorporate the drop from oblivion into the ride also… if you was to have an aircraft carrier I would say have a catapult theme to as if you was actually being ejected into the sky in a jet.
They might as well retheme the entire of Alton Towers to a military base considering X-Sector and Forbidden Valley

it needs a retheme on a larger scale than what nemesis has undergone (i'd like to see it in a style similar to air but with more fruitiger aero and early 2000s inspiration). that would probably mean splitting the area into 2 larger areas and extending the park area towards the car parks. apart from that i believe it could be a demolition which would be a shame.
The only issue with the remake if it was to go through the park would run into another issue which is the launch on the replacement coaster would knock rita down on its riders numbers
Either I think they should, retheme Galactica back to Air and give it more of a Phalanx look, OR make it a seperate land that isn't Forbidden Valley and retheme it to Air and finally deliberate on that stellar concept art from when it was being made.

I think a vekoma flying coaster like fly would work great. Proper speedy phalanx fighter jets, you can use galacticas station for it still, use galacticas track for theming like nemesis reborn

The problem is will be that Bianca Sammut won't want to lose rides as she knows that Merlin CEO Scott O’Neil doesn't want to invest in the uk theme parks as he doesn't believe that they get good returns so he's focusing on america and europe for the foreseeable.

I was just thinking about it what if Alton towers decided to build an RMC in place of galactica. Retire vampire at chessington and then put galactica at chessington and give it a re theme
