My favorite male R&B artist of All-Time. I'm a singer & D'Angelo has had the biggest influence on me. He was and still is an artist ahead of his time, and one of the pioneers of the neo-soul music genre. His voice is a national treasure and one of a kind. The Voodoo album is my favorite male R&B album and left a major impression upon me as a fellow singer.
@H Az I Mos Def respect your honest opinion but dose but you gotta admit do dat line wit him and Redman on Big Dogs he was like "johnny blaze da ghostwriter ghost storys by da campfire we night breed vampires" yo you gotta admit dat was genius
This album influenced me a lot as a musician. I normally refer to rock music like My Bloody Valentine and U2 for inspiration but Voodoo changed my life in many ways. I was really moved by the fact that D'Angelo runs the show himself, performing most of the instruments, singing, writing, and producing. Add to that the fact that his music always came out as exceptionally excellent every time. I'll always be grateful for discovering Voodoo.
Together :) They both originally dropped their debut albums "Brown Sugar" & "Baduizm" & in '95 and 97' respectively and by the time they were recording their second albums, "Voodoo" & "Mama's Gun", they happened to be @ Electric Lady in NYC(Jimi Hendrix's Studios) at the same time. "Like Water for Chocolate", the Common/J Dilla collaboration was half recorded in Dilla's Detroit Studio and the other half also coinciding @ Electric Lady with the earlier two album recordings. All of these musicians we're adding to each others creations and often jumping into each other's sessions, so that's how you get the collective the "Soulquarians" which is comprised of Erykah Badu, Bilal, Common, D'Angelo, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Pino Palladino(bassist) James Poyser(instrumentalist), Q-Tip, Questlove, & J Dilla (RIP). If you wiki the albums/track listings you can see how they featured each other. Certain others like DJ Premier were also around for these times. All of these immensely talented individuals together were responsible for furthering that sound they call "Neo soul" :)
one of my favorite album of all fucking time! This is music to me... I love hip hop, reggae but soul music and RnB is my soul and my real passion for music. This dude is a master of his craft and I'm a big fan of his style of music. I got nothing but respect for D' and like me.. I love women with a passion.
Like sum of y'all out there, I 2 get a lil frustrated at the way the industry waters down the black experience in music. With that said, I know that the beauty of what we do is still here; it just ain't mainstream (n that's kool). If we want change n remembrance of who n what we r 2 not fade away, we must "each 1 teach 1" so that the youngbloods can carry on this rich n beautiful legacy that we possess. And it starts n ya inna-circle. Share this richness with sons, daughters, nieces, nephews n so on. Tell them about our history past 2 da present; then let it marinate n watch it grow. I luv all of God's creation, especially my blackness (the good, the bad, n the ugly of it all) cuz at the end of the day...we family. Luv y'all...peace
The Voodoo album is a masterpiece! its definitely one of the best neosoul and R&B albums of all time top 20 for me and one of the best albums of the 2000s. D'Angelo is so handsome, immensely talented and gifted. He deserves his flowers he paved the way for neosoul music. This is a great song and collab with him, Method Man and Redman.
The Voodoo album came out the same year and month I was born but I love this man with all my heart!😍😍😍😍 I hope he does another album soon because Black Messiah is! 🔥🔥🔥
Damn, I loved this joint! Its a damn shame it took more than ten years for D'Angelo to release a follow up record but better late than never. This is probably one of my favorite ensemble records of the past decade, everything from the instrumentation to the guess verse from Meth and Redman was on point!
I see this is labeled as the "clean radio edit". But I don't think I hardly ever heard this on the radio. Certainly jamming to it elsewhere and on my own!! But radio ain't take advantage of this jam!
The Voodoo album is one of the best albums ever!
I ❤️ Voodoo and D’Angelo’s first CD, equally DOPE!!!!
Agreed!
All time! 💯
Foo shoo!!! 🎶 🕊 ✝
Ever ever!
Afro version of D'Angelo gives "Prince" vibes, who agrees?
Plus Hendrix
Was one of his biggest influences per his interviews.
rough rugged and soulful.....Method Man Redman, D'angelo
side note: i love when his hair is all free and loose like that
d'angelo with the afro looking so soulful.

He's so funky and apologetically Black. That spiritually charged poetic hip hop sermon music. He makes me proud to be Black.
I'd apologize if I was black too.
@@LorrisSpatterban1986WHAT?!
Might have meant unapologetically...
This shit so funky I got to get a Lap dance to this before I die
+justin scott Word bruh
Holla if ya hear me 😂😂😂💯
hahahahaaaaaa
fucking to it is better😮💨
True
I remember saying this when the first video premiered and it still holds true today
... You can literally smell the funk that this track emits.
Omg....yes❤❤❤
STANK on it
Best composer and singer ever!!! My idol!!!
@H Azand so is Method Man & Redman
@H Az I Mos Def respect your honest opinion but dose but you gotta admit do dat line wit him and Redman on Big Dogs he was like "johnny blaze da ghostwriter ghost storys by da campfire we night breed vampires" yo you gotta admit dat was genius
That afro is everything

they say he disappears but he really just doing what he wants to do with people he wants to do with.
Imagine Kevin Shields with D’ Angelo 🤯
RICHMOND, VIRGINIA ...D' Angelo... started the neo soul movement..

what instrument did Queen Badu play..
Umn Mag vocals
so singing A cappella defines a sound.. ? clearly I'm talking about the overall sound of Neo Soul..down to the instrumentation ..
We 😍😍😍 that fro and masculine representation
I just cannot get over him he oozes talent, soul, fine as phuck! , just want him to keep blessing us with his magic xo
Sick how the raps match perfect with the melody, a perfect combination.
The song is so good that it took a break without any music at all, just D singing and harmonizing, and it still sounded dope.
Man THIS IS THE DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! this should carry an extreme funk warning
still gets love in 2019 into 2020
I love that little guitar intro - I didn't think it was on the album at first but turns out it's at the end of devils pie!
Ok
Yeah.
***** sometimes I just need to pick up a guitar and play the riff man
Would've loved to have heard Q-Tip's verse that was originally recorded for this
This is my favorite album, all time. And this is the first I’m hearing of Q-Tip recording a verse for this. That would’ve been crazy
That's what u call music my friends!

I had no business listening to this at 10 years old but it’s 2024 and I will be blasting this album all day on Jan 25, 2024
Still the jam after all these years 🔥
Bringing Method Man and Redman in this Verzuz was incredible 😍
This is always how I imagined a great party to look like.
The D'Angelo + Friends Versuz brought everyone here!!
This was a get pregnant album.
I remember the making of the video on bet back in the day
Yes indeed it was...it was a very spiritual experience
Lmao
Still is IMO
AYOOO BING BONG!!! 🤣
IN SOUTH AFRICA DURING THE EARLY 2000S ALMOST EVERY 21 YEAR OLD FEMALE HAD D'ANGELO'S CD.
This was the best Colab. Meth and Red with D'Angelo. I can imagine them talking and saying we can make some fire!!
70s music with modern twist!
The transition between Devils Pie and this is perfect. One of the best albums of all time
Still loving this in 2020. Wish he'd come out with something new. Can't be still when you hear these jams
