I was stationed with the US military in Yongsan in the late 80s. I shopped at Dongdaemun at least once a month and took all my friends there. I spoke Korean quite well for a Miguk and would follow Korean women as they shopped and negotiated prices with the vendors. I would ask, "Ol-Mi-O" for a particular item and waited for the inflated price. Then, I would break into my real Korean and asked if I could have the same price as the woman ahead of me. After a couple of years, some vendors recognized me as a regular, gave me great prices, and knew that I would bring other American customers to them. I loved my time in Korea and came back to the US with a great respect for the culture, history, people and the FOOD! I still love my kimchi, rice, and tuna fish.
I am a visual learner, so I love love love the way you film your videos on how to get from one place to another! Much needed for when I am walking around in Korea. Thank you!!! I think you’re the only RUclipsr who does this! I am a big fan.
I LOVE your videos!! My husband and I are traveling to Korea for the first time this summer and have enjoyed watching your videos because you SHOW the viewers what the route to the destination actually looks like. Much more helpful than just looking at a map! Thank you and looking forward to more videos!!
Aww thank you so much, Leah!! I'm happy that you are enjoying my videos. I think that sometimes it's hard to find your way so it helps to show what exit to go out of, etc. hope you enjoy your trip to Korea!!

Hi Marie, Kevin told me you are a youtube star, i was just scrolling what to do in Korea and there you are!!!! i hope your family is doing well. Tell Kevin i said HI! Happy New Year!!
I very much appreciate the effort you put in your videos! Showing the walking routes is especially useful. I've been using your videos as inspiration what to do, as I'll be going there in hot-hot-humid August x_x
I will definitely check out the Toy/Stationery market next time I'm in Korea. Some of my favorite stationery stores were Diaso, Artbox, and Butter😉 thanks for another great video.
I wouldn't mind seeing the crafty area of the fabric market, and the stationary market more in depth! Really cool video! That area is definitely on my must visit list now.
i can't stop watching all of your videos marie! i'm going alone to seoul in january and your videos have given me so much confidence in walking around and going places. your videos have made me really excited about going! only problem is my list may of things to do have grown very big

Wow!!! This is sooooo informative that I'm quite overwhelmed! But I love this video!!! I would like to make a request, Marie. Can you do a video about famous Korean food and coffee chains like Isaac Toast, Cry Cheese, Tom's Coffee, the Lotte burger chain etc. Thank you so much!!! Also, thank you for replying to my comments!!! I appreciate it a loooooot! 😘
Thank you again for this very informative video. I'm in Seoul right now, and we are in Dongdaemun, all these places you talk about are walking distance from our hotel. I'm so excited that today I'll get to check out those malls.
Lived in Seoul for 10+ years but still haven't gotten a grasp of DDM. This is an awesome guide Marie and I'm definitely going to refer back to this video when I make a trip there. Thanks!
Thank you eonnie marie for being a tourist guide for us your watchers now i know now where place I need to go when i will visit dongdaemun wholesale market.
Thank you for this video. I'm checked in at a Dongdaemun hotel now. This video is going to save me a lot of time. I esp liked the part where you point out where the kids' station is as I am travelling with my 6 year old daughter.
Thanks for making such detailed videos! I enjoy that you also talk about pricing and review the taste of foods. Very comprehensive and useful for travellers! Thank you for all the effort you put in 😊
Thank you, Chris!! I tried to include info that I would want to know as a first time shopper there. And the area is packed with so much stuff. It's easy to miss what your'e looking for so hopefully this gives a good overview! :)
Happy New Year to you and your Family. I always love seeing you store videos. I have to plan a trip someday and have you take me to all the best spots.
Thank you for sharing amazing places in Korea with details! I can't wait to explore these places 🥰🥰 looking forward for more places that you'll explore ✨
I stumbled upon NCN by accident and it was pure stationary heaven. I had no idea they had a downstairs section, though. Totally going to check it out for my kids next year when I return.
Being a mommy of two littles, I was super drawn to all the the children things that you showed like the toy market and clothing areas! Everything is super cute!! 😍
I really like your videos, it is quite detailed and you explained clearly. In this video if you could provide some average price with every department or for products you bought it would be great.
There’s two Dongdaemun stops, one’s Dongdaemun History and Culture Park off of the green line (line 2) which if you end up here, don't panic. If you don't mind a walk, go out Exit 12 and walk towards Cheonggyecheon. On the opposite side of the river is the JW Marriott referenced in the video. Instant redirection. Edit: I originally said the only way to get there was the Line 2 shop, an error made because I live off of Line 2 and always come from Dongdaemun History and Culture Park. **sheepish face**
Marie, I spent time over in Yongsan before they closed it. I had to opportunity to spend my days scouring over what Seoul had to offer! Korean people are amazing, they are super helpful. I am very thankful I met some awesome girls & we checked off many of these places! My time spent in Seoul is my highlight! Thank you!
Hey Marie! Thank you for this video. I wanted to explore Dongdaemun in my upcoming trip but thank God for your tips. I'm eyeing at purchasing cheap clothes for myself and was wondering where in Dongdaemun can I find. Thank you so much for the tips in this video!
Hi Rachael!! I'm glad you found my video too!! I think Migliore and AM/PM which is next door to Migliore will have what you're looking for! Also maybe you can buy from the night market sellers, but sometimes they only sell wholesale so you might have to tell them you're buying a sample. Happy shopping!!
I've just discovered your channel and ive loved going out and about with you, but I'm sure if I ever came to Korea I'd break my bank balance 😁. Such cute things I would just spend hours in each place , your girls are super cute and a credit to you and your husband xx thanks for sharing xx
Wow everything is really well organized and well put-together for a wholesale market. I sell stuff online so I go to this kind of markets in Buenos Aires and they are nothing like it lol Plus there are so little vendors watching the stores and so many stuff out on the streets! I guess they aren't as worried abour theft. The market looks amazing, in the stationery stores do the vendors ask you to spend a minimum amount of money there to be able to buy from them? The video was really interesting!
That’s so cool that you have an online shop. Here they have CCTV cameras everywhere and I think it has really helped with theft and misconduct. At the stationery stores no I don’t believe there’s a minimum amount. You can buy 1 item and it’s totally ok. I visited Buenos Aires many years ago. Beautiful city! ❤️
What a large shopping area; it would take me a full week to really get a good look at everything this shopping area has to offer. I would love to see more of what you find, Marie. Happy new year, and God bless! :)
Melissa, I live in Seoul and I still have not fully explored every area in detail!! I find it a little overwhelming but it is so much fun!! Hope you are well, and Happy New Year!!! :)
This reminds me of the a Garment district in Los Angeles but so much more in So. Korea! I would be there all day.. or go back a couple of more times! Thank you for sharing and how to get around! 😁💖
Thank you for that! I'm going shopping when I visit Seoul again later this year and these places look great for a shopping spree. Really good video and great info :)
I really want to go to the NCN Stationery store and the fabric and trimmings market. I sew, so I think I will go nuts there.... wonder if it's expensive to ship stuff back to the States from Korea?

Hi Christine!! That's a good question. I have seen shops here and there, some in Hongdae and one in Garosugil. I think they are mostly "vintage" boutiques though comparable to Wasteland on Melrose in LA, which is a little different from the actual thrift shops we see in the states like Savers or Goodwill. I think there is a market that sells used goods though, that I have been meaning to check out!! I'll try to do a video on it :)
I am going to be visiting South Korea for the first time in May, and am staying in Dobong-gu. Would like to meet you and go eat or have coffee somewhere, and see if you could show me places I would like to go to in order to get a few items that I have been wanting. Could you help?
Hi Dana! I'm sorry but I cannot do personal tours. I hope you can use my videos to find what you want though, and I'm always happy to answer questions if you DM me or email me :)
Thank you for this video. I have started planning and looking into going to Korea with my daughter and this helped with possible places to take her to. Since she is in her 20's she loves to shop. Any recommendations for hotels?
I’m reviewing a few different hotels at the moment! But we liked the JW Marriott in Gangnam a lot! It’s at Express Bus Terminal which is great for shopping.

@@MariesKawaiiWorld thank you!!!
