I'm in 80s baby, and my mom always made more than my pops. He was still 100% man, protected his fam (my brother nd I), and provided as much as he could, where he could, when he could. I grew up just fine, make a respectable money, and hold my fam down (and lady), who makes less now. My path was different than his. Ultimately who cares...cuz love should trump all. In my few years of surfing the romantic space, one thing I've learnt that's been helpful is to know when to listen to the world. I also find it funny that women love pulling the “we have a million jobs” card, then cite birthing and carrying a child (which is usually the only difference to a man’s experience). But when I use that same point to explain what makes a woman a woman, I’m lectured about how women aren’t here to birth the world and how they can choose not to. So what about the couples who don’t want kids? Do the “yoked” women still have a million more jobs than her equally yoked man?

I know someone who is a manager at a grocery store and owns a house, buys his wife a car and they go to Aruba every year (plus other trips) and he just paid for his daughter's wedding. This is actually women's point. Men value looks over every other quality (not all men). You typically don't care if she works at Burger King. Women don't put looks as our #1 quality in men, we value stability/provision.
