Looking good Greg! You’re actually giving me a lot of motivation growing a full beard out for the first time because my cheeks are a little patchy; however, if you yourself can start out with some patches and end up looking like Zeus, I guess I can, too! 😂😂
Damn that's growing in quick Greg! I shaved mine off a week before you and I'm at around the same stage of growth. And yeah, I had A LOT of itchiness and made a video about how I stopped it. Took a lot of product tweaking
You know what's great about these vids? Everyone was in love with Gregg's beard, because it was pretty much perfect. But shaving it off, you can see Gregg has allot of the "issues" we all have: the growth of the hairs that isn't dense, some patches and bald spots here and there, itching, etc. Goes to show you can have an amazing beard as long as you take good (daily) care of it and above all, have patience.
I’m so excited now that my mans beard has finally gotten past the “rub my face off” stage when we kiss. He’s growing his at the same time as you! Keeping up on your progress
Greg I live in Saskatchewan and I wear a beard and it's the dry climate summer, fall, winter and spring. Beard oil has helped me considerably. Take care.
To start, your second theory is the closer to being a scientific fact. But more on that in a minute. I highly suggest that, if you do a beard reboot like Greg, Jack, and myself, you shouldn't deviate from your beard routine. The differences is how much. You should still be using a beard wash to your preference, co-washing as soon as even week 1, and oil/balm from day one. Back to Greg's theory and my reason for suggesting the use of beard oil/balm from day one is simple. At complete shave, your skin produces enough oil to protect itself or keep itself moisturized (providing you're sticking to your old routine of beard wash 1-2 days a week or more if needed). By week 1-2, your hair is long enough that it's soaking up the oil that your skin produces and leaving nothing for the skin, hence the itchiness. Beard oil is really meant for the skin despite its namesake. Also, if you keep to your beard routine from day one, then your beard will be softer and not so coarse in the first few weeks of new growth. One last thing: GREG! Your bald patches are starting to not be so bald. Instead, now it's thin patches. I freaking love the randomness of how beard hair decides if and when it will grow.
I’ve tried both beard oil and beard balm and After trying both I use the Lumber Yard Utility balm from beard brand . I’m on my second jar and love it! I have recently had some heavy itch and flaking on the corner of my chin and the utility balm worked like a charm.
Well it’s comforting to see that a guy like you has a bit of a patchy beard in the beginning considering I’ve seen what you look like with a full one. The patchiness in the early stages has always stopped me from growing one because I was worried it would stay that way. I’m going to try growing one out for 3 months and see what it looks like at that point.
Greg beard grows so fast would take me a least 5-6 of growth to get to that stage.. Think most men when they want a beard they want to be thick and long in a month and mostly don't have the patience to let it grow because it isnt growing fast enough
I am almost finishing my 2nd week with growing a beard for the first time. I have much bigger patches as it seems now, but will give time and see what happens. Itching is a problem (serious one), and the most effective solution for me was beard lotion. It is mint, it smells good, cools and soothes the skin and the effect last for a significant amount of time. The lotion gets absorbed more quickly and is not oily/greasy, so it does not cause any inconvenience for me when applying it.
Wow so impressed, Irritation so bad almost shaved it off, rinsed out my beard for 10 mins, 180° turn, face feels so much better. Washed my beard last night with some new beard shampoo conditioner, today awful irritation. Washed it out. Feel great!
I use both, balm for everyday use, and oil for special occasions solely for the amazing smell of the brand I use! I'm enjoying the progression of your beard growth videos, looking forward to Zeus' return!!
I’m both a beard oil and beard Utility balm guy but not a beard styling balm guy. I use beard oil twice a day. After my morning shower while my beard is still damp after patting dry w/a towel I use beard brand beard oil (Spiced Citrus) then in early evening I’ll use beard brand Spiced Citrus Utility Balm for more skiing hydration on my face especially underneath my chin. The I’ll use the beard brand beard oil, you guessed it, spiced Citrus again before bed. I’ll with shower a second time which I use Beard brand utility bar in a like warm water, or I’ll rinse my face off fir 2-3 minutes w/the spray on the sink, oat dry and use the oil. For second time. This is my beard routine daily and I’ll wash beard every 3rd day a/beard brand shampoo and softener. Anyway so I’m both a oil and utility balm guy. If I could only use 1 I’d definitely use the beard oil. My beard feels so soft w/the oil so light and so natural. Using the utility balm my beard feel a little heavier but I do think it moisturizes my skin more and long than the oil. But I’d pick beard brand oil over everything but use both
From an outside point of view (not a frequent watcher, that is), he looks fine either way. He might look more ‘iconic’ with his beard, but not necessarily better - it’s just hair!
wow it is really unbelivable how he can get a fully looking beard with so many patches and you can see close up he doesnt have a thick beard ! nice ill try doing it myself
Not gonna lie: I think you're more of a short than a long beard guy. You looked alright with and without the beard, but this length you're rocking right now (maybe a bit more) is perfect for you
Greg, I always enjoy your videos and insight. I myself have been growing a beard for a few months now without cutting. I always have a beard but typically keep it trimmed and shorter. Since I started growing my beard fuller and longer I have used both oil and balm. I’ve noticed a great smell as well as texture. My hairs are much less coarse.
Greg's beard is looking good. The first 3 months of growth are always awkward. I wash my beard more than most (3-5 times a week) because I run a lot. Therefore I use both butter and the oil to keep my skin and beard hydrated.
Utility Balm is the one product I could not live without. I used to get terrible itchiness at my old job because I had to wear a beard net (the indignity!). Sadly, this was before I had discovered Beardbrand or beard care in general, so my itchiness went un-soothed until I left the job.
I'm both. I do 10 drops of oil first, then I put balm on. Mainly for styling and keeping the fly aways at Bay but it also helps with keeping my hair and skin moisturized.
Here’s something that causes beard itching that nobody talks about: growing a beard after wet shaving with a razor! Instead, don’t shave for a couple days and then trim it down to stubble with a good pair of clippers (no guard) and grow from there-you will thank me! Shaving with a razor creates a sharp edge to each facial hair which will irritate the skin-especially when your beard is short. Trimming with a clipper creates a blunt end to the hair and the itching is way less, and for me, it went away almost entirely with the addition of beard oil/butter/balm. Try it out next time you decide to grow a beard!
Greg if you are going to grow your handle bar back in can you talk through the awkward part where it too short to style but still gets in your mouth. I’m right there now.
I’m mixed race and my beard is quite spilt. On the cheeks and chin it grows pretty straight like most white men, and under my chin and along my jaw line it is quite curly and coarse like most beards in black men, and under the chin where it gets quite curled and maybe tangled is where I sometimes find it itches. Especially since where the hair curls it may rub against the curve down into my neck which also comes into contact with the area where I shave to line up my beard. I use both beard oil and balm as per the needs of my beard, the balm I use helps keep my beard soft and easy to groom and the oil keeps the roots moisturised and adds that nice sheen to it
I've tried dozens of times to grow facial hair but always got disappointed with all the bare spots, thanks to you I got motivation that I didn't have before. I started with the mustache six years ago and had a lot of itch, then went to the goatee five years ago and the itch was even worse but I wanted it so I dealt with it. My spotty four week beard though no itch at all, oddly. Never used any oil or balm until recently thanks to your channel. Wish I would have known about it years ago. Never used the balm so can't say anything about that yet.
Starting to grow my first beard at 38 years of age. Thank you guys for these videos! They are fun to watch and are very informative. I’m about 1 month in and am getting the itch. I don’t have the money to afford your products yet but I soon as I do I’m going to pick some up. I’m using something I believe is called Bronson brothers or BB which is designed for hair growth. It is sort of a balm. It is helping with the edge but I’m not sure if it’s helping or hurting my beard. Do you guys have any insight on this product or have you heard of it?
No insight on this product, however, as long as you're keeping your skin and hair healthy, hydrated, and keep a healthy lifestyle, you'll achieve the best environment for growth. -Randa
No itching never had that issue. Growing my bead back in. Used a heat brush and burnt a good 6 to 7 inches off my beard. It is on the mend. My lesson learned is to eat well and balanced and to use vitamin e and aloe and let the beard grow in naturally. No more mechanical adjustments. Natural is the best way. I wish I never used the heat brush. It was a nice beard then. It will be a nicer beard in about 12 months
Thanks for all the tips they were extremely helpful, especially the itchiness of my beard that was caused because it was too dry. I use rosa musqueta oil, something used for healing wounds and it helped tremendously
I use the utility temple smoke or tea tree balm daily and then later in the afternoon/ night I use the beard oil (same fragrances) to prevent the itchy and to help skin keep moisturized during the night.
I am guessing that the seasons matter a lot as to why you get the itch while growing once and not another time. I am into day 25 of growing my beard and can relate to the itch. Being my first serious attempt, I found the tips on washing off properly and using the balm, very helpful. I am using oil at the moment and I must say it does add shine but is not helping a lot with the itch. I'm going to try some natural beard balm now. Thanks for the tips 🙂
Yeah Greg great video yeah the itch goes away in about 90 days or so...so if you have any issues now, it should be going away soon. I had terrible itch and what I did is moisturize my face and it helped tremendously. Today is my beard is getting a little longer, I use a combination of beard oil and I also use beard balm. I use beard oil to hang around the house and right after I shower or wash my face and the balm when I'm going out for either business or pleasure. I wash my face often because nothing is worse than your girl telling you your beard stinks. Keep it going Greg, you're getting back to your old self it's good to see. Cheers!
I used to get an itchy beard now my process is wash my face and beard well use cocoa butter to help the skin get moisturized then i apply beard balm has worked wonders so far.
I use oil for the first month or so of growth then I switch to oil + balm when I start getting some length. I always add the oil while my beard is still damp and warm from the shower, before any blow drying. Then, after it's dry, I'll add the balm for a little extra moisturizing and also for the little bit of hold the balm provides. I'm 3 months into growing my beard back out and am getting to the stage where things want to get a little wonky so it's nice to have that bit of control.
I'm also on week 3 going into week 4 of my beard/mustache growth. Thanks for the tips on itching, will have to try out both oil and balm due to the fact I wash my face everyday.
When I was younger I'd get beard itch for the first few weeks after starting a new beard, but nowadays that's not an issue. When I was a kid I didn't use any beard oils or beard washes , I just used regular shampoo on it and that may have something to do with it.
A good tip...i use ecology soap which are so excellent to use in the face when you wash. It does not dry out the skin and are good for the hair too either beard or on the head. The itch are normal common problem for all men, because it is hair that start grows like jungle to get thicker. My beard is now two weeks since i did shaved last time. And the finally...yes you do fit better with a beard but not too long. I suggest short beard.
I use both depending on how my beard feels . I've trimmed my beard down from Half its length to deal with this red dryness patch on one side of my chin. For that use balm or just Nivea creme. To really moisturise the red flaky area only.
I have a relatively springy/bushy beard with 2" hairs. I use oil every single day when I get out of the shower. Sometimes first thing in the morning when I don't plan on showering until later in the day and I still occasionally have beardruff issues. It comes and goes. It's definitely a product of dryness because it is almost always associated with itching. At this point I'm not sure if I need to try a different product (ie switching to balms instead of oil), a different brand, or change my washing habits (I wash every other day with grandpa's pine tar soap).
I'm growing my first beard ever at 62 years old. I'm at 16 days, starting to look like something. I shaved the neck a little high last week, for work, so I'm now letting the rest below catch up. It will probably even out in a few weeks? I wish I could attach a pic for your response. Thanks for the videos. It helps.
Right now I'm trying coconut oil to see it it works for me. People said online that I should try it but then other people said don't use it. But still gonna try it for the week.
Each time I would go into lazy mode with not shaving then try to go into growing a full beard mode, the itching and bumps in my lower sideburn areas would drive me nuts to the point I'd shave, altho I even be afraid to do that with the bumps. Funny thing about it is I didn't realize when washing my face that I was subconsciously avoiding my facial hairs til one of my friends said I should scrub the bumpy burns hard cuz he had same issue. That was all I needed to do, and when I started going hard in growing my beard, beard oils and balms were picked up early. I virtually never have itching anymore.
damn love that you're doin this! Would have never guessed you were that patchy underneath! the hair on my chin is patchy so it prevents me from growing it all out.
I shaved my beard off, we have a similar look, but I have been keeping clean shaving. After about 2 months I am completely used to my face again. Now going out stubble looks weird to me..lol
My beard never itches EXCEPT at the corners of my mouth. It never stops regardless of length. It’s annoying, but I put up with it cuz I like my beard so much.
I used to get very dry skin under my beard, was almost like dandruff on my face, used exfoliating face wash and beard oil/conditioner daily and that stopped it
With my afro beard I prefer Balm, it gets into the skin much easier with the crazy density of the fro on my face. BUT, in summertime I have to switch to oil because I get pretty greasy with the crazy hot sun and humidity of summer In northern Chile. Greg you da man, I stopped watching beardbrand for about three months until I saw you shaved your beard off. Any new watercolors coming soon? I always check for those. Still waiting for young Harrison Ford with a full beard. Or Prince William to restore his handsomeness with a full beard and english Mustache.
Im 49 and 3 weeks into growing my first beard and I recently picked up beard oil and it is amazing! No more itch and the vanilla wiskey smells so good I wanna drink it!🍻🤣👍
I think it is very simple. Without the beard you look mortal. With your big beard you look immortal. Simple as that.
Well said.
Excellent

I swear, Greg’s voice sounds different without a beard
It's the confidence that goes with the beard. Kind of like the confidence one gets when wearing glasses. It happens, I noticed it too.
The sound changes because the beard covers the throat and produces a kind of subwoofer.
@@monalisa3870 Soundwaves dont work like that. By that logic, wearing a scarf makes you sound like Vin Diesel

Started my first beard attempt at 42 on Nov 22, interesting seeing your weekly updates. 1 month looks like an actual beard.
Dude, I loved you in "The Christmas Chronicles"!!
To start, your second theory is the closer to being a scientific fact. But more on that in a minute. I highly suggest that, if you do a beard reboot like Greg, Jack, and myself, you shouldn't deviate from your beard routine. The differences is how much. I agree with you about using Utility Balm over oil when it comes to Beardbrand. It never fails at giving my beard proper nourishment
Started my first beard a week ago. Itchy was an understatement, but the balm seems to help a lot.
I always mix oil and balm! I'm both guy?
I mix it once, its good but i preffer to take only balm or only oil, just my prefrence and my opinion... 18 yr old talk here :)
Crazy the alopecia you have how well it grows fully. I to have a bald patch that is no longer visible. Im at 6 months with my retirement beard.

Cheers!
How long does it take to grow out mustache like yours back in the days? Want to try it out myself
Stay tuned for additional updates but I'm gonna say within 8 weeks I'll have a significant mustache
@@BerzinskyRules That's great! Thanks for your quick reply.
Greg, after what amount of days are you thinking to correct your beard? i mean the mustache, sides and etc...
I use both beard oil and balm.
Does Beardbrand have any products that aid in breakouts [i.e. acne or blemishes] under the beard due to beard oil?
Try using less oil
The Ether exfoliate with a facial scrub.
Great Video
3 weeks and the guys got a bit more than me at 4 months 😢
That’s rough buddy
They grow at different rates. Yours might take longer but could look badass after a year
Sorry. 😔
I am using oil. Also 3 weeks in. Balm will come in later, Enjoying your videos and journey. Especially considering I am also on the same time line.
Do you think having a white beard aids in making a thinner sparse beard look more full?
damn love that you're doin this!
Also, I have been a content creator on RUclips for 4 years, would love to be on an episode of BeardBrand!
My beard never itches EXCEPT at the corners of my mouth. It never stops regardless of length. It’s annoying, but I put up with it cuz I like my beard so much.
Greg I'm so happy for you that its growing back dude, I really felt sorry for you when you looked in the mirror after you had it shaved off.
My beard itches crazy bad at about 4am every day. So I quit setting an alarm. I get up grab a coffee and get going
I used to get very dry skin under my beard, was almost like dandruff on my face, used exfoliating face wash and beard oil/conditioner daily and that stopped it
I have the same gaps right next to the mustache/disconnect between stache and cheeks. This gives me hope!
I use both.
Can you show us later how to shape beard and should we pull up beard with the comb from the face or should we stick it down to the face line?
Look at this photograph!
Im 49 and 3 weeks into growing my first beard and I recently picked up beard oil and it is amazing! No more itch and the vanilla wiskey smells so good I wanna drink it!🍻🤣👍
I'm a beard balm guy, I've never used oil but I'm going too try it soon. It only itches the first couple days of growing and then it's gone.
