I just wanted to say , I really enjoyed the ride ! , I sipped my coffee and felt the Cold Air right with you . here in Pennsylvania , you really DO NOT see these types of trucks ( unless ) they are in a parade or see a convoy on the road . which is rare ! . Please by all means take her on a small ride and do another video . its always nice to see and learn from someone else . Ray in Pa.
You mentioned at the 8:31 mark, that this vehicle isn't very good in snow. If you had the Operator's manual handy, you would of learned that a good operator would reduce the air pressure in each tire to 50 psi and you gain extremely good traction. Some models have a air hose connection under the dash, driver's side, where you can attach a air pressure hose to inflate tire;s back to operational pressure once you get out of "Slippery" road conditions. If memory serves me right, that front winch has 250 feet of 1/2" steel cable.
I ran 3 bottles of Lucas injector cleaner through mine and notice a difference. I also use Amzoil Cetane. Gives you 7 % more power, essentially it makes diesel fuel burn like it should. Very nice truck you have. :)
Love EVERY one of your vids! Learned a lot. I just did a pilgrimage from Altoona PA back out to mid Ct in a 91 923A2 of my own and I can appreciate EVERY nuance you notice and made note of in this vid. Did the trip in ONE Tank no stopping. The next day ran her dry in less than 3 miles from home because 939 gauge lies lol. Gotta love a p7100 prime , crank , crack , go!
You can spend a big wad on a Webasco or Espar cab heater that runs on diesel that will toast the cabin in the winter time if you plan on using all year long. I use one in a Gitchner comms shack for heat instead of running the ECU and it does wonders in this 20 foot container. As for cabin noise I know many who add sound deadening materials to many parts of the bulkhead and floorboards of Land Rovers and I makes a world of difference for those up front.
This is the kind of American Rio imported by Iraq for the Iraqi army in 2004 and 2005. I am in the maintenance of the Iraqi army. I am the electrical engineering class at Talil base in Nasiriyah.
Hello , I have just watched your video, and it was very good indeed. I would like to own something like this but I have two main reasons why I can't, #1 Mortgage and #2 a wife, oh well I hope you enjoy the ride and have many more. Thanks again. Les (Australia)
Outstanding video my friend. Thanks for taking us on the adventure. I sure hope you keep on making these videos! You left us hanging though.....what's under the cargo cover? ;-)
If it has a comings engine with 3 heads (2 cylinders each ) I think you have a broken head bolt between the heads. We used to call it cerping sound, because it let's head gasket to leak under load. So it's not a exuast leak like you think. The way to check is take a long screw driver and hit the 4 center head bolts I think you will find one broken. So there.
Great video. It's cool to see what kind of vehicles the army guys are driving all the time. Also easy to see why so many have serious hearing issues at a young age. Of course, it takes an ENT doc to worry about things like that. LOL But, I do hope you'll consider some ear muff type ear protectors when you're on a long trip in that brute. One question.....I'm confused. You mentioned an $86K tag on the bumper. Did I hear that correctly? If so, what did that price represent?? The asking price or selling price?? Anyway, good luck. Do you have time for an update on your tour business? Are you going to repear next summer?? Thanks!! Chip
Chip Satterly I paid about $7500, the $86,000 is what the military values the truck at on their books. We will be back next year and I think I will be moving everything over to this truck and keep the other as a back-up.
I wonder how does this 6x6 Army truck compares to American's favorite toy "trucks" - Dodge Ram, Ford F-Series, Chevy Silverado etc. In off-roading, towing etc capability.
tht's our government for you! Just like leaving milions and millions of dollars in equipment in Iraq and they scrap it for pennies a pound. That's why are country is broke! Glad to see a regular guy in the US get a deal! I look forward to seeing it on the road next year!
NelsonStudios my 69 Volkswagon Beetle and 71 Karman Ghia windshield wipers WASHERS run off air pressure. The air hose screws into the spare tire Schrader valve. I had a flat once. yep been washing the windows way to many times. spare was FLAT. Had a friend that put vodka in his washer reservoir. ran the hose to the glove box. open the glove box put his glass in hit the washer button. filler up. I think he was killed while drunk driving.
Photographictime ______ What leads you to believe this can't be brought into Canada. The following excerpt is from the Canadian Registrar of Imported Vehicle website. " All vehicles (except buses) that are 15 years old or more from the date of manufacture, are exempt from the Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) program. You must be able to prove the age of the vehicle to the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA). Buses (including school buses) manufactured before January 1, 1971 are also exempt from the RIV program. " This is how some folks out in BC and AB are bringing in some of the Japanese micro cars and micro vans, as they are 15+ years old (but no salt on the roads in Japan, so in decent shape, good enough to warrant shipping a container load of them over)
I know a number of guys who are buying these and transferring the title then selling them to people in Canada. I think the confusion here is not that they can't be brought into Canada it is that a Canadian can't buy them directly from the US government. You need to find one in private hands then go wild.
NelsonStudios _______ Canadians rejoice. I sent an inquiry to govliquidation.com customer support, and they indicate that as long as the item doesn't have a delim code of B or Q needing an End User Certificate to be approved by the Trade Security Control (The EUC restriction will be identified on the online listing with a RED exclamation point and a Banner which reads EUC required.) then there is no restriction on a bidder and purchaser being a "foreign entity". None of the heavy trucks I'm seeing currently on the GL website has the red indicator present.
NelsonStudios This was an amazing Video, felt like I was riding along with you! I have watched you 1000 miles in an m923 probably 20 times to be honest and I was really excited when I saw this video pop up. When you started driving down the road I knew this was the truck I bid on too. I put in a bid on this truck when I saw it on GL but I held back when it started to get close to 5..I already have an m923a1 that I am currently overhauling the motor. The truck only has only 11k original miles. I was kinda looking into getting the new a2's with the 8.3 motor but you just can't stop the ol small cam cummins when they are running good. Glad to see this truck went to a good home. I'm only 17 so I've got plenty of time to get another one (Hopefully). Have a good one sir.
Wow congratulations on tackling something the side of a motor rebuild of an 855 at 17. Did you buy the one listed on Craigslist in Great Falls, that one said it needed engine work. Let me know if there is anything I can every help you with. acme66[youknowwhatgoeshere]yahoo[andhere]com
NelsonStudios haha no I didnt. I live in Iowa but I got some family friends in Montana so they could of picked it up for me. I bought my m923 from saint Louis a couple months ago and im just about done putting in the main bearings. Haha all the kids at school and the teachers think its outrageous to have one of these but honestly I would trade this truck for anything. Half the kids in my school couldnt work on a farm for a couple of hours but i wouldnt trade it for anything either. And thanks for everything plus keep up the great videos, your quick tips and other videos are really helpful. Have a good one.
Dang dude. You paid $86,000 for that? WoW !! Sounds like you bought it direct from DRMO? You do know that these are selling currently between $12-20,000. Why so high?
@@acme663ryo Ok, so I misunderstood the satirical joke! Shows how long I've lived out of country! Anyhow, I think that thing's a beast and look forward to getting my own toy in a few months when I return stateside. Do you have a line on parts? I know they use an FSN like in the USAF.
I still don't know. I meant to check before I left the truck at the farm but got distracted and forgot. I am sure nothing cool, I was told that it was just some junk/trash.

Always. Mine runs out with 5 gallons still in the tank. Good times.
Beautiful truck, I'd love to own one.(Australia).
I put in bids on that truck. I work on the air base where these were.

very nice my compliments sir
Really enjoyed watching!!
Thanks. I have the motor out of this right now and plan to pull it down this weekend so I can find out what let go.
Thanks for the truck ride. I feel like I was there. . (kind of worried about the gas mileage though).
I always wanted one of those kind of truck👌👍💯
Great video, love the subtitles

Can see daylight around both doors
And the roof and back window...

Not the same class. I believe it will tow 10,000lbs off-road at 45mph while loaded with 20,000lbs.
nice old sound
2 years later and we still don't know what was in the back! Is this the truck you are currently using?
Nice ride. What make of engine? They make a lil heat or lil more. 24v artic heater for cab helps lil more.
Cummins
May i ask approximately how much you paid for this truck ?
$8200
nice man
Thanks for the video! Who do you or have you, bought your trucks from?
you got one helluva deal. I would imagine you could double your money and probably triple it next year because they'll be hard to buy.
Gee Dubb Sounds like they will be getting scarce. What a waste of money.

If we are lucky they scrap it over there, if not we have to send our guys back in later to hunt for the bad guys running around in our old stuff.
yep, you're right
Wipers run off vacuum? If you mentioned it I missed it.

looking to get one also..is yours from govplanet??
Wish we could import these to Canada, they are so epic. If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it?
After bidder fees about $7500.

where did you plug the GPS into for power?
+OneSneakyGamer Attached to 12v under the seat.
Is it an automatic? Great truck and vid! Thanks!
Yes, most of the newer ones were automatics. They have 5 Speed Allison's in them.
Any updates on this truck?
Runs fine. We used it for our business all last year. Just did a parade with it last week.
Your ears must have been ringing for a while after that drive. That beast is wide, must take up the whole lane.
Lets just say... you get your money's worth.

where do you find these Gem's?? thank's in advance
Military surplus auctions.
Can these be bought on time payment from the military?
No but there are lots in private hands that could be.
How much did you pay for it
Nice ride. Fuel mileage? Is that a multi fuel?
NHC 250, about 4.5 w/o riding her too hard.
Is this one multifuel?
andycflbulb no
I would love to have one if I could find a deal like that. Do you need a CDL?
BulletSpoung varies state to state. in MT anything with air brakes needs one yes.
Some states yes, some states no, some states need Class B non-CDL (non commercial use, like RVs)
Dang dude. You paid $86,000 for that? WoW !! Sounds like you bought it direct from DRMO? You do know that these are selling currently between $12-20,000. Why so high?
I paid $8000 plus fuel for the ride home. $86,000 is what this one cost the taxpayers. $21 per mile uncle Sam put on the machine.

what is the fuel mileage in that truck? I was thinking about 6mpg
I have never gotten more than 5 and 4.5 is more realistic. The newer trucks with the other turbocharged motor do 6.
Bout the same mpg as a Cadillac Escalade. Like yours better!!
BAD BOY
...so what was in the bed?
I still don't know. I meant to check before I left the truck at the farm but got distracted and forgot. I am sure nothing cool, I was told that it was just some junk/trash.
