Karen has played good tennis for over a year now. Australian Open semifinals, French Open quarterfinals. He got injured this summer but what a comeback. Karen has improved his backhand.
Could be a toss had Yoshi played at the same level in the second set as first one. But he clearly deflated on the second one. It shows again how competitive both physically and mentally you have to be to win a title at any ATP tours nowadays
Congratulatios to both players!Nishioka was out of energy in the second set!Khachanov deserved it!I don't reliezed how tall Nishioka seems to be until I saw him side by side with Khachanov!
Can we all agree that Russia’s got the most solid and well-balanced men’s team? You have Medvedev and Rublev who have always been contenders for the biggest titles and have been one of the most consistent players on tour for the last 4 years, Khachanov who’s been making big strides on grand slams and have been playing consistently well since last year, Karatsev who’s capable of winning anyone when he’s in the right mood, and now Safiulin who’s been winning top 20 players every now and then, and has become even more dangerous this year. It’s noteworthy that Russia won all team’s tournaments in 2021, both ATP Cup and Davis Cup. Looks like they would’ve swept it all this year had their country not been banned from playing those tourneys. Anyways, this generation of Russian players have been proving how good they are. Keep it up, Russia!
They are so different off court, but on court all of them have the same play-to-win mentality, always try to be aggressive (well Med can be otherwise😂)
love this comment as a Russian, hate that politics gets in the way of sport. I wish they can play as their own Russian Tennis Team separate from the government or smth idk
Didn't know who to root for in this match: Khachanov's bludgeoning forehand or Nishioka's craft/grift. Good to see both guys playing well. Surprised Khachanov hasn't won a title in 5 years! 😯
Kachanov just gives nearly the perfect balls for his opponents to attack (for both back- and fore- hands) . It takes 2-3 strikes to finish combinations for Nishioka. For the ones like Nadal next shot after such gifts would simply be the last.
I really wonder why Tennis TV puts the winner in the thumbnail?? I don't check the scores all day because I want to be surprised, but then it all falls away at the last moment. Such a pity. @Tennis TV - do you read the comments?
Nishioka didn't seem too eager to chase down the shots in the 2nd set. His head2head records against Khachanov may have conditioned him to throw in the towel early.
its difficult. he's a small guy. he can't hit with pace AND spin. he needs to choose one or the other, and it makes sense that he chooses to play spinny and slow off his forehand and flat and fast off his backhand. His primary gameplan is to use his lefty forehand to loop it to his opponent's righty backhand and make them uncomfortable. They hit a short ball off the backhand from mistiming the loopy lefty spin and then nishioka steps it and takes it on the rise with his lefty backhand to the opponent's forehand and they are forced to hit an very uncomfortable running forehand. - unfortunately for nishioka, khachanov has one of the cleanest backhands on tour and he is very tall, so the height doesn't bother him, and the lack of pace doesn't bother him either. He's always going to have accuracy, depth, and pace off his backhand side, so nishioka is stuck with no easy offense.
@@bonzwah1 i agree with your statement, but how about guys like schwartzman, baez and mcdonald? I can say they have better forehands with almost or the same height scale as nishioka.
@@craigpetalcorin3202 the big difference is that they are all righty, so it makes much more sense for them to use their forehands are their aggressive wing. As I explained before, nishioka uses his backhand to finish points due to how he tactically plays a left handed game. - I will mention, though, that nishioka is the lowest powered of all the players you mentioned. schwartzman has much broader shoulders than nishioka. When I say nishioka is small, it's not just height, but also width. And despite that schwartzman does not hit a very aggressive forehand either, though he does hit more powerfully than nishioka with much heavier topspin because of those broad shoulders. Baez is incredibly muscular and also hits quite flat with his forehand. So Baez is very very aggressive and hits powerful shots...but he also has a history of running out of energy and being unable to compete late in a match. He is simply exerting his muscles with much more intensity than schwartzman or nishioka and as a result, Baez gets tired much more quickly. - In summary, nishioka is less muscular and has narrower shoulders than schwartzman and Baez, so he is simply less powerful than them despite being about the same height. And his decision to play his forehand loopy instead of flat has more to do with his leftyness than his height. - Finally, McDonald is a size category larger than these other three. Mcdonald is shorter than average, but noticeably taller than Baez, schwartzman, and nishioka.
That's why women don't want to select short men as partners. Because in the end they are weak and lack endurance and energy. Gotta go for a tall chad like Karen.
What a comeback from injury for Karen - when he's playing his best his level is so high
Glad he beat Mr Poopy Pants
Very respectful crowd, i appreciate it
I noticed that too. It was definitively much more balanced cheering unlike some of other places

Nah,his backhand was always very good shot. Forhand is a weaker wing and a major problem for him along with second serve.
It is incredible that a player as talented as khachanov and as a player who went deep in so many slams recently hasn't won a title in 5 years
Shows how competitive the tour is nowadays
@@denchik7424 you nailed it! Can't be more true
@@denchik7424 It's not though. The field was much tougher 10-15 years ago.
@@davd1986 Maybe yes and no...could argue the 250 levels fields are harder now.
Well the player has certain characteristics that make it logical
Congratulations to Karen Khachanov ❤❤🎉🎉
Khachanov's backhand is such a beauty, efficient, constant, defensive as offensive, what a weapon.
It's impressive that Khachanov won his last title in Paris 2018 and now, almost five years later, he win a title turning back from an injury
i have never seen khachanov hit a running forehand so well
Beautiful winners trophy. Yoshi can be proud of his run here, well done⭐
Look like Shanghai Rolex Masters trophy tbh

Seriously? 😂 He seems really short in comparison to Khachanov.
He is the smallest Player on tour..
Short man, low energy, low endurance. It's just mother nature.
Congrats to Karen! Great comeback from the injury!
Поздравляем Карена с долгожданной Победой! Удачи в новых турнирах!👍
Виват, Карен!!! ❤
Yoshi still remembers the nightmare that he received a double-bagel from his opponent😂
What a battle. Samurai’s forehand vs Zhan’s backhand. Pure pleasure for eyes.
Khachanov's forehand is PURE POWER
Красавчик, Карен, затащил!!!!
Bravo Karen
Khachanov in form is a joy to watch. Such a high level of tennis, and powerful ground strokes off both wings.
Congrats to Khachanov, very solid player 👍
After 5 years since his big title in Paris, he's playing in a decent level again in 2023. Great news!

Let's not forget Zverev was also a Russian before naturalization as a German.

congrats to khachanov
Well done Karen !
2:08 Nishioka doing the Karatsev finger thing
Oh yeah he is, it looks just like Karatsev
Karen fought hard for this one. Yoshi will always give you a tough match❤
Its reall telling thst Khachanov amd Zverev both won titles after being left off the Team Europe team. 🙃 Great job to both!!!
Strong tennis from Karen.

I would have offered Karen a fist pump instead of a handshake after the way he scratched his sweaty head and hair at the end😅
Молодец, Карен. Долгожданный титул👍💯❤
I watched their match in person at AO this year.... what a stark contrast. Yoshi had won more points in his first game than he did in the first set
Отлично!!! Карен красавчик!!! Желаю ему еще больших успехов на корте!
Although he lost, Nishioka gave courage to the Japanese people. He also has a cute girlfriend.🎉

Why are these tournaments in China ending on a Tuesday?
Nishioka looks like Pokémon next to kachanov
How hard is it to NOT put the winner in every thumbnail?
