Not the snow but the base material of the mountain is responsible for the colorfuness, for those who wonder why Himalayas/ other mountains don't exhibit this phenomenon.

Ami Peru te thaki. I hv been to Cusco and Machu Pichhu but the sheer altitude of the Rainbow mountain has rendered it almost impossible for me to visit. With altitude problems like headache (locally called Sorojche), short of breathness is pretty common. Wish I could visit this wonder

Amit, but you didn't explain why there are such stripes, instead of a red mountain and a green mountain and a yellow mountain.
Did layers of different minerals form over time horizontally, then the whole "cake" got turned sideways as the andes got pushed up by plate tectonics?
