After a long search for a compact drum machine, I finally bought a TR-6S. I have been really happy with it. Glad they have an editor now. Good video, as always!
I love my TR-8S. It already easy to write some cool patterns directly from the machine - I’m use to the workflow now. But to access all the features from the computer is a nice addition (rename drum kits and patterns on the computer is 🔥). I really appreciate the fact that Roland keep rocking the updates and add new features to their gear. Super duper review Jade ! ✌️🎶

I'm glad I found this channel, I'm always interested in combining sounds of this type with 'live" playing on non-synthesizer instruments. Especially in jazz-crossover/fusion types of music and other musics as well. Tremendous potential with this type of gear.Thanks for taking the time to discuss this. When I get the Tr-6 I'll post a few things with it once I learn how it works.
I got the TR-6S. Then got the MC-101 and was thinking I should return the TR. But seeing how you're working with it I can see it has its own unique features and benefits vs the MC. I do wish they could implement probability per step, at the very least. But I appreciate they're replicating the classic TR workflow. So it is what it is. I just cancelled Prime so that covers the extra cost of my Klarna payments lol Guess I'll keep the TR.
I love how compact it is, and that it’s battery powered too! The TR-kits sound really good over the RUclips compression as well. So I ordered this and a SP-404 MKII last night. Yeah I got gear issues 😂
I might score one of these today used. I had an Impact, Volca Beats and now I'm using a Bear-TD-3 and it's trashy sounding. I made $80 chump change selling the Impact and regret it now. It's a keeper and would think the TR-6S is as well. Great video J-Dub!
I don't LOVE my TR8S but it fits with my other drum machines and I see potential. I think the editor will really make a difference because I do look forward to designing my own kits on it.
Excellent video as always. Question though: I always get a horrible grounding buzz on the audio outs whenever I connect the TR6S usb to a computer or usb hub. Have tried various different shielded cables and different powered hubs but still happens. Have resorted to only powering via USB and not connecting usb data which means I miss out on being able to use this editor. Any suggestions to try?
Since the TR-6S doesn't have an actual power plug it can't get that power from the wall only USB, so if you have the USB plugged in AND an audio OUT from the TR-6S going into your interface you will get noise (similar with the maschine, but since the maschine has a power plug once you plug it to the wall the noise goes away). Only way to not get noise with the TR-6S while using USB will be to use it as an interface input, like I did in the video. Hope that helps!
@@JAdeWii_ thanks for the prompt response - much appreciated. That makes sense but it is annoying. Might experiment having its audio via usb instead then and route that into my mixer instead of the physical audio outs. Some re-organisation may be required!…
@@seanelliotmusic yeah it's fucking infuriating man. The tr6 is a sick little drum machine but it's pretty hard to make it a staple of the studio when you literally can't feed it constant power. Either have to use it as it's own interface or hope your batteries don't run out mid session- absolute oversight 🤦🤦
@@seanelliotmusic i've managed to keep the noise to a inaudible minimum by having the 6S powered off ITs own USB power block; this seems to be a similar fix for all the contemporary boxes that only use a USB for power, i'm using the same fix for the Dreadbox Typhon and Nymphes, and Novation Circuit Tracks.... i'm also completely dawless, so i don't even try for computer fixes with these things! 🤷♂️ While IT would be really, really ideal and convenient to power everything off of the same USB powerbank, unfortunately IT seems that we're just not there yet, here in the millennium of our lord 2022 🙄🤷♂️🌌
@@darkuniversesound yeah I have basically been doing this - even then I’ve found that not all usb power adapters are equal. Some are still noisy - particular the no name brands off Amazon. I’ve resorted to using Apple iPhone usb chargers on all usb powered devices as I’ve found them to be the most reliable and silent.
Am thinking of just getting in to grooveboxes...got the mpc1...maybe this or the sp-404mkII...and others...just thinking what kind of an live/studio setup that would make...an army of modern grooveboxes.
Great track, Jade. Have you checked the Roland MC-101 yet? I would say it's like the TR-6S but with more options for melodic parts. Having the TR-6S for beats and MC-101 for melodic stuff should be a blast.
Thanks for this video. I have a TR-8S and this software will make things easier. Also downloaded the SP 404 MKII App that's already up on the Roland Cloud Manager. Can't wait for that to release next month. These two will be side by side. TR-8S for beats, SP 404 MKII for samples & effects.
To get the editor you have to be a paying member of the Roland cloud...? Because I downloaded the manager, but nowhere can I find the tr editor........
Thank you for making this video. I purchased this machine before and loved the sounds. Although it was easier to navigate through than the MC101, I was not very good at making my own beats. With the addition of the iPad app, I am going to give it another shot. I am also curious about the TR8S but it has a high price tag. The TR6S seems to do everything the TR8S does for half the cost. Do you know if there is a app for the MC101? I love that groove box. I have had it for almost two years and am still learning new functions. An app would really help. Thanks again!
I have the tr-6s with the 1.0.0 version and I'm having some trouble to use this editor interface. I did download and install the .exe without any issues, but when I run the editor it shows an alert saying that my device is outdated. I tried to update via usb cable following the instructions on the roland website (copy and paste the bin file into the tr6s driver folder), but nothing happened (device shows the no update file was found message). Does anyone knows how to proceed?

The TR-6S is rad and I love jamming on it, but scrolling through those menus does suck. Having an editor to set up kits will be game changing!

I got the 101 and thought - it's hard to use! Then, the 6s was simpler, but much more likable to play!
