Noice demo of this. Watched the official Roland intro video before watching this one…it’s fun (and valuable) to watch your take on this. You answered a key question regarding importing User samples via this update (it doesn’t), but good to know it is likely to be added as a feature soon (big time saver!). Thx again!

Roland MC series needs something like that, mc-101especially
As long as the sales stats of MC-707 will not drop, they will keep the MC-707 as the natural step for the (sometimes frustrated) 101 users. But yeah, I wish I can seamlessly create the patterns&patches here and there; sketch on the 101, work on the 707, final polish in the editor, use some zencore patches there and final production/performance on the 707 again. Would be great ;-)

Just a week ago I was really thinking about selling the TR-6S, but hell no :-)
I just bought a used 6s because it was Cute, Colorful and Cheap, to which I now add Capable.
I have the tr-6s with the 1.0.0 version and I'm having some trouble to use this editor interface. I did download and install the .exe without any issues, but when I run the editor it shows an alert saying that my device is outdated. I tried to update via usb cable following the instructions on the roland website (copy and paste the bin file into the tr6s driver folder), but nothing happened (device shows the no update file was found message). Does anyone knows how to proceed?
When the individual instrument effects are applied can these be recorded via usb tracks 3-8 into your DAW or do the seperate instruments output 'dry' ? Is it only the stereo out the carries the seperate instrument effects (not global fx but the individual bd, sn ect)
I sold my tr-8s about a year ago. Now that there is a software editor i think its time to buy another one.
Quick question. I haven't updated my TR6S since I purchased it last December. Will I need to back up my patterns and kits before plugging it into the editor?

Hmm. So i installed the Editor. Works like a charm. Unfortunately I realize there is no way to really edit and rearrange samples or am I missing something?
Or in other words, its a pain to re arrange samples on the machine in case you import a few...

And maybe, the ability to pick a variation or variations from the editor. I'm getting dizzy spinning back and forth between desk and 'S. And now I've had to install Ableton just so I can start and stop without said chair spinning.

the Roland cloud is weird man! I cant figure out how to open the editor, I got it installed and I see it in my Library but that about it. also this was the first time I had my tr6s hooked via usb on my pc and when i turned the volume knob on it down i heard Gaz Williams voice from the vid im watching get lower haha(it had control over my whole system volume, i guess that is what class compliant means?). I'm going to figure this out and pretty curious about how its going to work with Ableton.

The MC's could do with a similar treatment. Zenology is good for what it does, but this is a whole other beastie.

i install editor in windows 10 but imposible open!! crash all the time...
This will definitely make sequencing basslines and melodic stuff way easier. Now if they could just add off-grid timing in the next update I might not try to sell my 8S...
this confuses me, do people who do this NOT have other synthesizers? You wouldn't use a plumbers wrench as a hammer, just because you can...
@@voidnull787 no but it definitely would be cool (and fairly straightforward) to have a nifty little hammer attachment on my wrench for some quick jobs.

i had to get a new macbook, because my 2012 wouldn't rescale the GUI and it was too big to fit on my 13"
now i have a 2015 MBP and it allows scaling DOWN windows instead of just bigger like my old macbook, so now i can squint and see all the options available on the editor. I really hope they change the GUI and make a similar interface for the MC707, would be amazing...
Is the editor MIDI SysEx over USB or some proprietary protocol ?

Tried to install it on my Mac.. and I immediately got one of those wonderful, generic error messages "Not available for your operating system" (I have a 2010 iMac). Thanks Roland for imposing a perfectly unnecessary dependency on a newer OS library.
As a software developer I can tell that it's not as easy as one might think to support 11 years of various operating system versions. While I have also some dislikes about the way Roland makes their software (usability of the Roland Cloud app and some plugins is horrible in my opinion), at one point developers have to say you need some kind of recent OS version. They might also assume that computers older than 10 years just don't have enough computing power anymore, and there are just a hand full of people using devices that old.
But I am also a huge fan of open source software, where you can decide yourself to learn some programming and make software work on the platform/OS version of your choice as you wish, or pay someone to do so.
@@HenningSprang I'm a software engineer myself, so I get your comments about "at one point devs have to say.." The thing with an editor for almost any drum machine is that an editor is 90% user interface and 10% data communications (I'm simplifying of course). Such functional dimensions do not require any newer OS. A 15-year old Apple OS could do this.. so then the question becomes: what silly little feature of a newer OS did a Roland dev allow into the editor's list of dependencies? In my experience, less experienced developers are not as conscious about dependencies to external libraries or OS APIs as they ought to be. Worse still, often such introduced dependencies cannot even be justified when the negatieve impacts on users are taken into account. Anyway, as a TR-8S owner, it totally sucks that this editor refuses to install on my older machine.
@@laurencevanhelsuwe3052 well then we talk from expert to expert... but then you also know, that the problem is not necessarily the features that are required on the OS, but the changing API's to be used in each major version of the OS to, especially the GUI components, and having to support 4 or 5 major OS versions also means a huge increase in testing to make sure it works well on all of those...
Anyway, I am also not happy with a bunch of things they do with their software in general, had many strange plugin problems (so not being a full subscriber anymore because I only pay for properly working software), and the cloud manager is very weird, and they do not get the TR Editor to properly work on different resolutions/scaling settings of the retina or hidpi displays.
My preference would be they get this straight for the current and previous major OS versions first before support >10 year old things - but that will change as soon as my own hardware is > 10 years ;)
There's always a work around. Do it in windows WINE 🍷 within Mac. Or see if you can run compatibility options

Anyone else get a "ground loop" noise when connecting their TR-6S (or even TR-8S) to USB port on their PC or laptop? I've tried an isolator but the TR-6S just won't power up with the one I have. (Turns on for a brief second, then shuts off PC wont recognize it either). Any work arounds?
I don't have a TR-6S, but a MC-101 which had the same issue. Then I noticed I did NOT have that if my MC was connected to a different power plug then my PC. Also no noise when MC is running on batteries. Hope it helps.
@@rsennac Thanks for the response. I think the best solution in my case would be to try the batteries as the TR-6S has no separate way to get power (only from the USB)

So listen, kids of today. All you need is one of these little boxes and then learn and use it 110%. Awesome what you can get these days. #imho, this CLEARLY shows why Roland just doesn't re-releases the classic Mid-0-devices 1:1. Their core motto was/is "We design the future." And here they did! It's a great tool, but it needs to be learned thoroughly.

From my entire immediate family who are mostly lgbqt2+, thank you for the gay drum machine, especially for the two members of the family trying to produce EDM. Made me chortle. Must be that PNW humor (ex-Vashon&VolunteerPark here). And as always, thank you for the wizardry, and the passing of knowledge. I also believe that this fits the making of music now. This is the natural progression of music tech. I've liked other hardware producers, but Roland has had a special place in my heart ever since the early 80s. This is sick! (as my 12yr old would say).
There are two TR-6S units in a showcase at my job right now that I have been looking at a lot over the past few months.
This is not helping my growing compulsion to buy one, because this makes it seem like a very competent little performance sampler now that it's got a proper editor...
Pull the trigger man. Interaction with the shift functions was really the only annoyance with this box, it's 10 times better now

Seems like the ISO on your camera might have been set a bit high, seeing a lot of image noise. Great video as always though

Is there a secret button to save a backup of the machine locally on the computer? Or maybe even single patterns/kits/instruments? That would make it even more useful, but so far I see it makes a backup when updating the firmware, but I dont see a button to make a backup whenever I want, or restore it.
Also, am I the only one having problems fitting the app on their laptop screen? It seems not to support fullscreen mode and is just a bit too large to fit into the height of resolution of my MacBook 13...

Huh, I didn't know that this drum machine existed! It's got support for both samples and modelled drum synthesis? I think I might consider it now as a first drum machine! ...although Model:Samples is still cheaper, and that can play samples chromatically as well...
Very very very very minal fm controls. Not really comparable to the modal cycles for instance.
