Thank you so much for showing step by step how to bring your Speedking back to life! I recently got a 44 year old one which was sitting in a basement for the past 25 years. I followed your videos and got it going like new!
What a pleasure to watch - I’m 59 and spent my whole life tinkering in my garage doing stuff like this . Love how you went back and cleaned those threads out - great job Sir. I’m a motorcycle guy too - guitar - bass - drum’s - heck it’s all fun right 😍 Regards from UK
Thanks for the videos! I bought a used Speed King pedal and it needs all these mods. On mine, the heal plate is reverse of what yours is and also the screw and weird washer underneath are missing, which makes it easy to change from one side to the other.
Great videos man thank you! Just one question if you don't mind. Why did you fit the small oval shaped back plate 'back the front'? I have a couple of Speed Kings and the back plates feature the horizontal ribbing on the top side rather than the bottom which has only half the plate ribbed. Was this does on purpose and if yes, why? Thanking you again!
Yeah. He made a mistake. It probably plays just fine with the heel plate backwards but it is supposed to be the other way around. But that was a very helpful tutorial. Sharp guy.
What an amazing restoration! I am also planning to buy one and start refurbishing it. How much do you recommend I do without a routine? Should I rather trust it to a professional, for the sake of the pedal's integrity?
Sweet resto of a classic bit of kit. There is nothing more annoying that rattle and play!!! Specially when recording!! Keep on hackin and tinkering my friend!! I love to do the same and have always enjoyed your vids. Hacky new year man!!
Sir u have helped me fix what I could have on my old 'Speed King' & I Thank You Tremendously! I subscribed & I look forward to watchin & learnin what I poss can on Ur channel, I can now use my 'Squeak King' again haha 👍
Hey my friend. I've been watching your channel for a long while now. One of my Favorites !! I'm watching "TAKEN" right now.. He Jumps in a Car,.. grabs at something under the dash ..crosses some wires and the Car Starts.. Is this Real or memorex ?? How Quick can you do it? ... Video ???
I enjoyed your videos about the Speed King rebuild, so thank you. I noticed in Part 2 that you found a dead battery in your digital caliper. I did not see a brand name in the video, but they appear to be similar to the chinese calipers often being sold at low prices on Amazon and eBay. If so, the battery will almost /always/ be dead, as the common design being made in China has no real power management; the electronics remain active even though the display goes blank. To solve this, some owners remove the battery whenever the calipers are not in use, but that's obviously a hassle and the batteries are easily lost. A better solution is a better caliper, but you don't have to spend $120 on a Mitutoyo or something. I have no relationship with any manufacturer or seller, but I've lately been recommending the EZ Calc model from iGaging. They are available from eBay for about $24: silver frame: ebay.to/2zjS3ii black frame: ebay.to/2y0xBQo These are also from China, but so far they are being made to a higher standard; I've yet to see a negative comment. The metal casting is better and cleaner than the generics I've seen in tear downs, etc. They have proper power management (off means off) and also use a CR2032 battery, which has a much higher capacity than the LR44 used in most of the generics, so they don't eat batteries. Have fun,

Another great piece of restoration, Merry Christmas to you and yours and hope you have a fantastic new year.

I really love how it looks in the end. You have to make sure you attach an allen key holder on there somewhere for when that heel plate loosens up!

Great tutorial man.
What did you end up spraying the parts with, silver paint?
Nothing
Great Video sir. My son Thomas and I love watching them together and learning. Thank you for your time making the vids and Merry Christmas.

It's all pretty straight forward. Just go for it!
Hello, can you provide a parts list of sizes for the hardware store bushings etc.?
Sweet resto of a classic bit of kit. There is nothing more annoying that rattle and play!!! Specially when recording!!

THANKS MAN ..You helped me in a big way. !! Good Luck on the John Bonnam Foot work..

Surely even a brass bush will cause squeaking. Why not use nylon or something softer to avoid metal on metal contact?
Great video! Great solution to annoying problem !!

Thank you, I am working on mine now, Inspired by you!
Great work. That pedal looks and plays primo!!! Are you a machinist by trade?
hi .where did you get the nice collar from on the foot pedal that you refurbished?
My local old time hardware store.
Sensational video. I'm re-doing mine at the moment
Very informative, will get to work on my speed king
Good luck!
After 40/50 years the springs lose their tensioning, do you have any idea's for spring resto?
Source out some new ones
Sure do love the way you work and your problem solving skills based on logic not expediency
Thank very good video...I have workshop envy! But dude refurb yourself a decent kit!!!
How many turns in from the bottom of the plate screws do you use
I don't remember. Just adjust it until it feels right for you.
Did you keep it
I would have taken the bolt on that foot plate in the lathe and round it of
Great job on the speed king like brand new ✨
Dude, I was with you all the way... until the carpet. Anyway, great tutorial, but please get a firmer support for your kit.

Have fun,
i wonder if thi is an ealy model no toe stop
duayne veer it isn’t- the early models (50s-early 60s) are stamped “WFL” on the top of the footboard where the “Ludwig” logo is on his.
the Speedking never had a toe stop.
the threads will be hell on the bushing, why not use solid rod and the set screw collar on both ends? would look more uniform
visionisscary The threaded part of the bolt has been cut off. It is just a solid rod.
you are correct , i think his comment on the nylon bushed nuts threw me off. still would have cut the bolt head off also
Symmetry looks a bit more 'stock', I agree.
Awesome!!
Hi dear friend I have never known what's de function of second heel plate ..??🤔 Thanks in advance.
