Love the video. Do not have a Faber-Castell; yet, I will look now! After a few months in Heidelberg (and taking a German language class as a 45-year old at the time), I was a total failure at German. Of course, it took me 9 months of total immersion (6 hours/day; 5 days a week) to get to “bad accent” fluency in Russian. I AM AMAZED AT THE PERFECT ENGLISH OF THE COUNT! AMAZED AND ENVIOUS, as most Americans are, since we are the typical definition of mono-lingual! THANK YOU!

This is a brand that makes sure that every detail is considered from both a practical and aesthetic perspective. How wonderful to hear thoughts on the brand from the man currently behind it.

It is just mind blowing how quality and luxury but at the same time simplistic the products are... if you have a perfect pencil on your table then you are lucky.
The products are desirable to own but they are also so impressive it’s just eye candy

I used to think of Graf von Faber-Castell as a luxury and design brand which does not appeal to me. But I have tried and bought an Intuition Fountain Pen some years ago, and I'm still amazed about the perfect quality, the love to details (like the spring-loaded clip and the unscrew mechanism), how well it fits into my hand, and how wonderful and smooth the nib writes. Yes, Graf von Faber-Castell is a luxury and design brand, but their products are elaborated and give me the impression that "building a damn good writing instrument" is their first goal and "luxury" or "design" only comes second. (It's a pity that the regular Intuition is not on sale anymore, I like to have a pen which is thicker than the pens from the Classic and Guilloche series.)
Afterwards I bought some Faber-Castell Ambition which I use at my job on a daily basis with great joy. (Their steel nibs are IMHO outstanding, too, and the best ones I know.)
Regarding the Perfect Pencil I'm eager to try it out someday. Since I mainly use my fountain pen (and a pencil only from time-to-time) I never thought about buying an expensive pencil, too, but I would not be suprised if I would make similar experience as with my GvFC Intuition Fountain Pen. And I like the idea of having some kind of Swiss knife bundled with the pen which at first sight just seem to be a regular cap.
P.S.: I'm not able to find a Graf von Faber-Castell channel here on RUclips. I only found a Faber-Castell one which I was already subscribed to. Since subscribing to the Graf von Faber-Castell channel is a requirement to win the give-away it would be nice if you could put the link in the video description. Thanks!

Thank you Count Charles Alexander and Joost Appelboom for making this interview possible. I have been a user of Graf von Faber Castell pens and pencils for some time. I am well aware of their dedication in the making of the best possible writing instrument of quality. I was pleased on how the Count was open to all of your questions and candid in his replies. I was also impressed with the Count’s value of a virtuous life. I am happy to see that the humble often forgotten perfect pencil has received it's well- earned acknowledgement which it deserves. I must admit I do use the Faber Castell pencils but have never tried the perfect pencil. I have never had the opportunity to experience using The Perfect Pencil regretfully. I agreement with the Count as to remembering our heritage and not allow it to be lost to the high speed pace of life. New items becomes old items every 4 months. There is much to admire of a business that has endured and grown over five generations. As for the pens I could write a short story on both the Graf von Faber Castell as well as the Faber Castell line of Fountain pens. They are unique, quality built, using the best materials and they will last a lifetime or two or more. They are reliable pens that will not let you down. The Count spoke about the new Bentley line of pens. I would have enjoyed seeing a few more close up photos of the Bentley pens. What most impressed me about this video was Count Charles who seems to be very easy to speak to. His caring for history and the values and wisdom we seem to lost. Technical advancements which are important as well as past event which would improve our daily Lives. Slow down and smell the roses.

Beautiful! I remember a feature in Architectural Digest about the Count's father and his work on the family's castle and country home. The family's preservation of beauty and tradition both privately and through their brand is exemplary. The Perfect Pencil is an extraordinary piece of craftsmanship and this was a unique opportunity to hear from the Graf himself!

I always felt that the thought put into the product speaks volumes about the brand itself. Take the Perfect Pencil for example, you get an all in one product with a wonderful pencil, replaceable eraser and most importantly, a hidden sharpener in the cap of the pencil itself. Giving you all you need for everyday usage.
The products itself not only performs well and exudes a premium feel whenever one holds it and put the pen/pencil to paper. Whilst also invoking memories of days of yore and allowing us to slow down and appreciate the wonderful craftsmanship that has been put into the product.

Thank you both for this interview, it was really nice to hear the ideas and feelings from the count. The GvFC products had me hooked from the first fountain pen of theirs, it is very true, there is a feeling that such items being with their use. Despite having many of the fountain pens I have only a "standard" Faber-Castell pencil with extender to see how it handles and it convinced me to save for the perfect pencil, I believe the design, feel and its use will leave no doubt in it living up to the name. The black magnum version, lovely. Thank you once again.

Fascinating report. These videos about a company--hearing the owner speak is immensely persuasive. I have used Faber-Castell pencils for a long time: for note-taking, for work. They are the best. The new Perfect Pencil but it looks like a brilliant (and beautiful) design. Using this video as a stimulus I have looked at the fountain pen choices--the Bentley in gray looks great. The standard clips (the Classic, for instance) always look a little corporate to me. So perhaps it is time I put one in my hand. Friends report that they write brilliantly.

Hello! Good evening! I just subscribed to both your channel Appelboom Pennen and the Graf von Faber-Castell channel.
Regarding the questions: 1- (Actually I got to your channel per RUclips recommendation when watching GvFC videos and the ads when looking at GvFB Facebook page ) What I think about the Graf von Faber-Castell brand (my experience is with fountain pens) is that it transmits me the point where the best of human product creativity and elegance crosses with functionality, beautiful and it feels comfortable as well, made to be used everyday, to me that is very important. Like the calligraphy right, it has these elements.
Also I'm interested in what values and teachings are important for traditional families like FB that have maintained good business through centuries, nowadays in a world where we as humanity in many aspects have lost north, it is important to look and ask what is important as humanity, what works, and who has maintained through years and years so we can re-learn the good things. Some traditional families express this through their corporate brand, so it makes look and search more about the history of the brand and etc (through this path is exactly how I got to your channel).
2- Regarding the perfect pencil, what struck me first and find so interesting is the cap, this feels new (although the concept of cap as been part of pens and fountains pens for so long but never for a pencil), and seeing its awesome functions I feel curious because it makes sense to have a cap, it protects the pencil, looks elegant, eraser, sharpener, clip, extender; but to be able to release a cap for a pencil a company has to design it well, to make it look good, and that is what GvFB did. Actually I'm very curious about it and would like to get and use the pencil, experience this creation.
Thank you, have a great day!

I really like this brand-focus videos. My first "nice" fountain pen was the Faber Castell Loom. I fell in love with the design of the cap and the build quality and overall craftsmanship that's gone into making that pen.
A few months ago, I have upgraded to the Faber Castell Ambition and, even though I now have more expensive pens, even a Montblanc, I never get from them the feeling that I get from holding the Ambition. The barrel is so nice to the touch and the cap is my favorite. It feels robust and looks absolutely gorgeous- I definitely see myself getting a Graf von Faber Castell Classic in the future, because it looks like a grown up version of the Ambition but with a nicer nib and even better craftsmanship.
I've also been watching the Graf von Faber Castell video called "Passion and Precision" rather obsessively lately and it always reignites my love for GvFC's designs.
Between the various "ordinary looking" cigar shaped pens out there, GvFC designs are in a league all its own.
I hope you'll continue this series with other companies; or you could do another 10 videos about GvFC, as far as I care. :)

The bottle is nice too , feels substancial , its huge with 75ml heavy glass bottle . Its quite expensive , but I would name it great value purchase. Besides a bottle of stone grey and a couple gvfc cartridges for different colours , I don't own anything from the graf von faber castell line . I own lots of polychromos and albrecht duhrer pencils though ,quality is great . Faber castell is a great brand , never had any dissapointment with them .About the perfect pencil , well it looks overengineered to the maximum :D
