- The movie shows a cab ride with freight train #5135 from Landquart over the famous Albula Line of the Rhaetian Railways to Samedan. The train is pulled by GE 6/6'' #701 Raetia.
The Ge 6/6'' (Bo′Bo′Bo′) is a class of heavy electric locomotives with a total of 7 engines. The first engine, #701, was delivered in 1958 by the manufacturers Schweizerische Lokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik (SLM), Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC) and Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon (MFO) at a price of 230,000 Swiss francs. The last engine, #707 was delivered in 1965. The engines are capable of pulling 280 tons on the 35% grade over Albula Pass. They operate with 11kV 16 2/3 Hz AC power. The Ge 6/6 II locomotives have a top speed of 80 kilometres per hour (50 mph), weigh 65 tonnes and develop 1,776 kilowatts (2,382 hp) at 46 kilometres per hour.
In part 1, we see the engine running light from Landquart to Landquart Ried, were the freight train is picked up. Additional cars are picked up at Untervaz between Landquart and Chur. Now, the train consists of 34 axles, weights 273 tons and has a speed limit of 60 km/h. Part 1 ends in Reichenau-Tamins, where the Albula Pass line and the line from Chur to Disentis seperate.
The movie was filmed in September 2015. Enjoy!
Thank you for posting this 4 part series, I love the point of view that you film from and I especially like the views of the operators counsel and the occasional view of the train you are hauling, Thank you from Iowa US.
Beautiful video. It's also sad to know that Engine 701 doesen't exist anymore. She was broken up for scrap in february 2021.
Fantastic view of Swiss railroads. Thank you.
Excellent video my friend!!
I LUV watching it often!
Clarity ,scenery,video captures were awesome!
Good work....
Thanks. Appreciate your comment. Used music also to protect privacy of RhB employees in the cab with me . Will minimize music in the following parts or find alternative ways to ensure sufficient privacy.
louisfavre04 love your videos. Was fortunate to take Swiss rail to same Dan, chur and st moritz
Great stuff, Louis! Wow at the number of signals!! I'm also impressed at the number of tracks everywhere. And the scenery, as well.
That clock thing is a mechanical event or speed recorder which registers speed and a few other items on a time sheet. The event recorder or Tachymeter is from HaslerRail and its sound is very typical for these machines. In the 1960 to 1990 tousands of engines were equipped with these recorders. While today replaced by electronic event recorders, they are still being produced and see widespread use in certain countries, e.g. India.
I finally know what is the hypnotic ticking noise our old trolleybuses' tachometer do in Lausanne when they are running. I also love how their speedometer have steps like on those locomotives.
Nice video and very interesting electrical infrastructure.
Great video. Beautiful scenery!
Great job, thanks for making this!
Very nice Video ... Thanks ... !!!!!!!!!!
Sad to see that this locomotive has been scraped as of Feb 10, 2021 Rip #701 All 7 locomotives are out of service with #703 also being scraped. Numbers 702, 704, 705, 706 are parked out of service in Landquart. #707 is being preserved and is parked out of service in Samedan.
The view is great 👍 crews no what they are doing to perfection 🚶🏼
I enjoyed flipping through these. The drivers don't seem to use the train brake much but drive almost entirely using dynamic brakes. Interesting.
the wheel is used to control speed and electric braking. when you watch the video you see it.
Good video! Thanks!
Could I make one or two suggestions which will make your videos more enjoyable. Firstly, try and position the camera so that the middle pillar of the window frame is not obstructing the picture. The shelf to the left in the picture would have been ideal. Secondly, set the zoom and leave it there. Zooming in and out changes the perspective and is not needed. Apart from these things, I enjoyed the trip though I have done it before in the train. Thanks and kind regards.
It is the first time I ever saw the controls in a train. I do like some of the train videos that just show scenery but it is interesting seeing some inside of the cab of the engine.
Great 👍🏻
Hello back Russia from Southern California U.S.A.
Please, Please! no more annoying, irrelevant music with your enjoyable videos. Its enough to hear the the sounds of the train, the controls and signal alarms, thanks.
Seeing that so-called "steering wheel" reminds me of the old joke, "That girl was so ugly she'd make a freight train take a dirt road!"
Nice video
Unfortunately the Ge 6/6 II 701 was scrapped on February 10, 2021 and the Ge 6/6 II 706 was scrapped on December 14, 2023. We miss them forever.
Indeed, very sad news. Hope, RhB is at least preserving one engine of the Ge 6/6'' type
@@louisfavre04 The Ge 6/6 II 707 Scuol will be saved by RhB Historic.
Could have done without the music. I prefer train sounds. Great video, though. Enjoyed it nonetheless.
Ty
Nice!
love the front and end music.
the views fantastic, but awkwardly set the camera effectively reduces the qualities of the film; it is difficult, if not you can better organize ...
Great Video! ;-)
Thanks for posting, the music spoils this, should be just the sound of the train.
Is there a speed indicator/speedometer somewhere in the cab? I can detect the acceleration by the sound of the motor, but it would be fun to see it's acceleration as the Engineer/Operator opens the throttle.
Driver. Or Lokmiester or Lokfürer. :)
To the right of the Driver on the control-desk is the train-brake, then the loco-brake. Above the train-brake is a large dial. The red marker @80kph is the maximum permitted speed.
I agree.!
BTW, how is it that your trains run over points and crossings at such high speed.
Usually there would be speed restriction when passing over points and crossings.
Didn't know you had so much narrow gauge in Switzerland.
Scy the main operator in Switzerland is the RHB and all of the RHB is narrow gauge
I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice of they'd put a Google Street View Car camera setup on a train and drive it through someplace like this?
Is this meter gauge? Or standard? I spoke too soon seems like meter gauge. I really like meter gauge railways. Unfortunately in Greece there are a ton of people who don't understand nor appreciate their unique nature. But there is still hope that our meter gauge railway will work once again.
What is this clicking/ ticking sound in the cab?
It is the clock inside the event recorder - inside older locos the device is fully mechanical
Is this Switzerland? You might want to put the country in the description.
como se consigue esta simulacion de trenes
Whatever that clock thing that keeps ticking in the background is used for I don't know! What I do know is that there is a pretty good chance that it is useless and could be replaced by anything else that does not make that unbearable constant amount of irritating noise all the time! It honestly distracts from the otherwise magnificent sound that this machine is making!
Please take my advice: cut that special effect show. Just use the "hard cut" like professionals do. You dont have to show them all. It totally destroy your otherwise good camera work and picture quality.
Why does a train have a steering wheel?
1080p ???
What's the name of the intro song?
Crazy russian trains have a steering wheel!
Meter Gauge
Interesting video, but please, waaaay fewer jump cuts. It's impossible to see much of anything if there's a complete change of perspective every 3 seconds, and with a 1 second transition, no less. The brain can't refocus that quickly. And I would hazard the guess that most people who watch this video don't need any "boring" bits cut out, they want to see everything. Thank you for the video nonetheless.
country?
Metre Gauge.
With all due respect, that's not a freight train, more like a pick-up truck on rails. Also, I know Europe is at peace for the first time in 2500 years. But all I see is electric trains, should War ever break out again. Not likely but possible, one day of normal air attack, they would not have a railroad. At least with the English, Australian, American, and Canadian routes and lines could be disrupted but not whole systems. This is only a thought and not a criticism of their way of life.
What's up with that music sounds like Thomas the frieght train... cartoon music....
It seems like being a freight engineer is more interesting than being a passenger engineer. Too bad they pipe in that lame music into the cab. That music was playing in the cab, right? Nobody would add that schmaltz to the video, right?
The music is god awful. I stopped watching SECONDS into the video!
