“No I’m not neutral. I’m on the side of whatever’s more interesting.”
Thank you so much for making this video and also huge thanks to all the creators who helped making this video. Great content!

Great vid man

can't wait to share with you brother
Amazing footage trav! Love the vid!
Thank you for watching as always Niko!
When I ride this train I’ll be getting off in Jasper. My friend is gonna be waiting for me there. And then I’ll go stay with her for a little bit, and hop back on the train two weeks later to get back to Toronto… or fly back, whichever is cheapest
Great video thanks for using our clip glad to have been part of this excellent video production
Thank you for being apart of journey with me :)
Hi Trav love your channel my 9 year old son is starting his 2nd year as goalie and I have been picking up tips from you as I never played in net and don't know anything about helping him. I just wanted to take the time to thank you your videos help. I had him in goalie camp last week at Atlantic Goalie Academy they were great and I picked up lots of drills to help him. That train trip is on my bucket list.
Thank you Trevor and your son for all your support :)
Came across this video, since I'll be doing this same trip in Dec. and wanted to know what I can expect. Fantastically done. I love the exterior shots, they were incredible. Don't think I have seen it being done by other travel RUclipsrs, it's great that so many ppl helped you with it cause it truly does make your video stand out among other ViaRail ones I've seen. I rode American version of this early this year, California Zephyr from Amtrak. Highly recommend it, if you havent done it. The most diverse landscape I have ever seen on a trip.
Yeah when i wanted to make this video i noticed nobody did a real canadaian travel vlog, drone shots, etc so thanks for loving it man. Its agreat journey. The mask BS is annoying but you may get lucky and then don't enforce it. Maybe one day I'll try the Zepphr
I did the same thing.. I haven't been on the via rail across canada since like the 1980's. So I had no idea what to expect. So I am panicking because well I don't know what to expect and ty for the tip.. I will be bringing my french press, which I didn't expect to have to bring, so I am SUPER grateful that I came across this.
Glad you enjoyed your trip buddy, even with the restrictive space for sleeping. Keep up the good work !
Thank you Mathieu
Looked like a great trip. It’s always nice to travel alone or with a friend on this trips! It’s definitely not a party trip! Thanks Trav always great content!💚💚💚🇨🇦
Thanks for always watching and commenting Ross :)
@@trav4oilers no problem sir love the vids. Just keep working hard big guy
Great vid again Trav. Made the journey as a 4 year old when we moved from Toronto to Australia in 1971. Not much memory of it so loved the scenery in the vid - maybe I’ll get there again one day.
Thank you so much for watching Glenn :)
Awesome video trav I’m going to ride on the Canadian one day because of these awesome videos🇨🇦
Awesome buddy!
Ngl, I fuck with the mini history lesson from Trav. Some great views in there
Many many more to come my friend ;)
I honestly think I will do that trip one day man. All because of this video. Great job
Thanks for watching Mick :)
Nice travel vlog. Haven't taken Via in a minute, and even then, never to Vancouver. Some spectacular views to be sure.
Mountains cant be beat
Good job. Great video.
Thanks man :)
Man, this is an awesome video. By far, the coolest way to travel is by train.
In contrast, I traveled from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to Harare, Zimbabwe by bus one time. It was brutal!
The run was three days and I only drank bottled water and ate crisps (potato chips) the whole time...
Couldn't imagine how bad youd smell after that haha
Great video!
Thanks for watching the via rail travel vlog man
The mountains are the best part
They are def the highlight :) thanks for watching, I got a few other videos on the Canadian you should check out :)
This is a beautiful journey. That said, no shower is a real deal-breaker for me.
Unless you wanna remain in your own filth for 5 days :)
Awesome would love to take that ride someday great footage
Thank you so much Jacob :)
Back plate tribute for the VIA Canadian train would look awesome on your next mask . Mountain landscape with the train passing by👌👌
I think I gotta stick to the Kurt Cobain tribute, not sticking with VIA yet ;)
Canada can do HSR (high speed rail) because cities are all on relatively linear path. Van, Cal, Sas, Win, slight bend to Tor, and Mon, to Queb and onto Halifax if you want.
THEY should do it1
beauty of a trip
what a trip
I live in Alberta and EASILY the Bear's paw is where I go when I take visitors to, when I take them to Jasper. It's absolutely beautiful there and I love that you enjoyed that!
I need to go again! it's awesome. thanks for watching, I got a few other videos on the Canadian you should check out :)
As a retired Canadian history and geography you have done an excellent video of the trip. I agree, if doing the whole route start in Toronto. After doing that in 2021, I now just go Vancouver to Edmonton and then fly back to Vancouver as that is the better direction for that part. I did it once in Economy, and the food was dreadful as it no longer provides the nice meals you showed. Having a decent meal in Jasper was the highlight of that trip. I think I got 3 hours of sleep that night. I now travel in a berth. This gives me a great bed, access to the shower and excellent food in the dining car.
Thank you so much brother. I'm doing a series on the grand railway hotels of Canada starting next month. If you liked my videos on The Canadian, you'll love them. Thanks for watching :)
I took the train from Minnesota to Southern California. Lots of scenery and books to read. The food you shared looks 10 times better!
Which amtrak was that?
Gonna really miss Swedish Trav... became a fan of you thanks to those vids. I really hope you end up back there! Seemed like you really enjoyed the European Life!
Will be more coming soon over the next few weeks my friend :)
Good video!! Do they offer USB or power outlets for charging in economy?
I think something must have happened with their food offerings since this video was made. We did return journey, vancouver to jasper and all they could offer for food were microwaveable meals and sandwiches. On the return journey other passengers who had travelled from toronto said all they'd eaten for 3 days since departing were sandwiches.
It was a covid option, not anymore but I'm doing a series on the grand railway hotels of Canada starting next month. If you liked my videos on The Canadian, you'll love them. Thanks for watching :)
What an epic journey and awesome video... Kudos to you... I am doing this trip in May 2023. One question: Is it legal to fly my drone at some of the stops along the route if all other parameters (no fly zone etc) are ok?
Yup! I've never had an issue as long as it's within teh rules
Great video, Travis
My Dad and I did this trip, but Vancouver to Toronto in late November.
Dad and I were wondering what the trip would be like traveling the other direction east to west, and judging by your video, it looks like we may be doing that trip thus coming fall sometime.
When we traveled recently, we had a sleeper and were the same size as you as well as a goalie. It looks like that was a good decision on our part even though it was expensive.
Keep the videos coming, sir
Thank you
Thank you Brad, really apprecaite it :) It's expensive but if you can afford it you get what you pay for. Hope you enjoyed my other 2 recent sleeper class videos I posted recently :)
Thank you so much for making this video - my dad might make the rail trip out west to see us this sunner and I wanted to get an idea of what he should expect.
Quick question: did they bring you boiling water for your coffee or did you have to boil it yourself? It looks like you may have had your own kettle (Dad drinks tea and I want to make sure he has options).
Thanks so much again - I really appreciate this video.
Hey I hope you both do the trip and love. Nope they have hot water they will fill for you on the train. I'm doing a series on the grand railway hotels of Canada starting next month. If you liked my videos on The Canadian, you'll love them. Thanks for watching :)
Beautiful Canada!#
so beautiful
There are so many vloggers out there doing train rides. And the food is always decent.
haha I ain't a vlogger. Just a travelling goalie!
The Canadian shield in the fall is nice.
It's on my bucket list to experience! thanks for watching, I got a few other videos on the Canadian you should check out :)
Great filmography and detailed coverage.. perhaps a carreer in railway marketing someday when the knees surrender. Give us a heads up when travelling through Kamloops...getcha into some rez hockey..prep ya for chicago. ✊
Would love to brother. Reached out to VIA before but they wern't big fans of my work. Oh well. Thanks for watching :0
i 💘 your video i travel toronto to Edmonton to last year it was winter time that time i 💘 it beautiful 🇨🇦..❤❤❤
Hope you had a good trip! Thanks for watching :) hope you enjoy my other travel vlogs on the Canadian too!
I took VIA Rail on The Canadian trip in May of 2019, from Toronto to Vancouver, back when they offered the "Escape" fare in the Economy class for around only $350. But they only sold a limited number of Escape tickets per train before the price went up to the normal Economy ticket, which I believe was around $500-600. I'm guessing it was just to help fill the economy cars at the time. I don't think the Escape ticket is offered anymore unfortunately.
it is still on offer! I'm doing a series on the grand railway hotels of Canada starting next month. If you liked my videos on The Canadian, you'll love them. Thanks for watching :)
nice video.
Thanks man :)
Hi,
Looking at making the trip from Toronto to Jasper by train in economy. Any tips to know what to bring (food) and how to keep your stuff safe when not around your bag?
They sell chips and chocoalte. Def bring your own food and water for however long you plan to be on it . thanks for watching, I got a few other videos on the Canadian you should check out :)
Great video, how were you able to sleep on both seats on the train? did you book two seats? I am looking at taking the economy class to vancouver but I am hesitant on being sat beside someone for the whole trip. / having to sleep in my seat
I would to know the answer to this question as well. I wonder how busy the trains usually are and if it's common to not have someone next to you. The seats are so close together and it would be awkward and uncomfortable to be seated that close to a stranger and especially if they are a larger person. It would be best to travel with a friend and sit together but I plan on travelling alone and even then it would be better to have more space to yourself. There should at least be a bit of distance between the seats.
They let me have both seats and it wasn't a problem hah usually you dont share. I'm doing a series on the grand railway hotels of Canada starting next month. If you liked my videos on The Canadian, you'll love them. Thanks for watching :)
Fab footage, lovely to see all those exterior shots. I had to slow your video down to 75% as your commentary was too fast for me.
We travelled Toronto -Vancouver in May and yes, retired with an inheritance to spend.
My apologies for the high paced video, I hope you enjoyed the other videos I posted on the canadian. I love taking the train!
Does the The Canadian go through Newmarket, Ontario? I've never seen it, but we saw the Canadian on the GO line north of Downsview this past Sunday morning, and I don't know if the Barrie line connects. I'd love to see it.
I don't beleive so. thanks for watching, I got a few other videos on the Canadian you should check out :)
Heyy, I saw you brought a water jug, did that count as part of your luggage (did you bring it in one your bags or did they let it slide)?
Nope, you can def bring the jug! I'm doing a series on the grand railway hotels of Canada starting next month. If you liked my videos on The Canadian, you'll love them. Thanks for watching :)
my first vid from you, but can we see more food on the train too in future trips? otherwise, great vid
Hey, did you watch the most recent Vancouver to Winnipeg video I did? :) I got a sleeper plus class video coming shortly :)
I should try this train at next trip to canada thanks for the info
But no shower is pretty critical
Guess youre gonna stink haha
I’m so excited to take this train. My dog can’t fly in a plane cabin, so I’m bringing him on the train instead!
awesome Christina! When are you leaving and which route?
@@trav4oilers October 26, Toronto to Vancouver 😊
Does Via Rail have a rail pass like Amtrak? I'd like to get out for a couple overnights on the way like Winnipeg or a provincial like Town Jasper.
They used to but not anymore, thanks for watching, I got a few other videos on the Canadian you should check out :)
Exactly the thing I’d do bringing a pour over onboard haha I thought you’d get a cabin in economy sleeping on chairs is not the one!
Sleeper is absolutely game changing as well! I'm doing a series on the grand railway hotels of Canada starting next month. If you liked my videos on The Canadian, you'll love them. Thanks for watching :)
hey trav i’ve been looking for good knee protectors and I can’t find any good reviews online what would you recommend?
I like my warrior xr2
I did the Canadian Vancouver-Toronto back in October 2021 and loved it. Pricy though; 2300$ for a cabin for one. I'd like to do it again Toronto to Vancouver in a cabin for two, ideally with a Sleeper Class plus discount. I could do it in a coach seat all the way, but the very thought of not showering for 4 days grosses me out. The advantage of going eastbound and westbound is that you see different parts of the country in both day time and night time. One part that looks very good aside from the mountains, is the area between Saskatoon and Winnipeg. It's called the Manitoba escarpment. Interesting landscape.
Its been pricey for a long time . I like the prairies
Were you able to view the rockies in October? I am planning on taking the 4 night trip aboard #1 this October but fall weather and chance of precipitation worries me 😞
@@Moonstruck89 I was able to see the Rockies in October. Yes. The weather was sunny with clear skies. My trip was from 18th of October to 22nd of October...
Here's an interesting tidbit: Until January 15th, 1990, a one-way, economy class, trip on the daily Canadian from Vancouver to Toronto running a 70 hour schedule cost 115 dollars (224.29 nowadays adjusted for inflation). With the departure of the remnants of the Canadian from Vancouver at 8 p.m. on January 15th, 1990, prices for the same ticket went up to 600 dollars and took thirteen hours longer, and the train only ran tri-weekly.
The train has changed A LOT since then. Most for the worse I do believe
@@trav4oilers Very true. The only good change VIA has brought about was a very nice modernization of the Budd cars in the 1990s that introduced, among other things, showers on-board.
The original Canadian, in 1955, did not cross that bridge into Winnipeg Station. The original Canadian was a CPR passenger train that ran on CP lines and the original station is on Higgins, at Main. The Canadian, by Via Rail, did not come into existence until 1978. It was at that time that it started using the CN station on Main St.
Good information to know, I didn't know that. Thhank you Sonny :)
@@trav4oilers My pleasure. I worked on the Canadian for 40 years; retiring in 2018. Started on the Canadian while CPR was still running it.
@@josephinegagnon Well thank you for your service on the canadian Sonny, i really envy you :)
@@josephinegagnon Mr. Restiaux, were you the gentleman who was the service manager for the Mighty Trains documentary on the Canadian? And on the crew manifest for the last run of the real Canadian?
@@JuanSanchezGuerra Yes Juan, that was me. And yes I was on the last run of the original Canadian. Mighty Trains was a very good, and realistic portrayal of life aboard the Canadian. Was a lot of fun doing that show.
You probably went past me working on track by souix lookout/dryden area lol
I will make sure to wave next time ;)
i love canada only been to niagara fall trying to visit toronto next year but we will see good video
West coast is def better ;)
@@trav4oilers for sure i'll make it out to the western areas of canada someday
@@trav4oilers Halifax and PEI are awesome..
Some solid effort in the editing, requires a lot of clips to make changes between percussions like that for 11 mins
Its almost a shame because you bearly get to enjoy the vista before a new one pops up but thats just nitpicking ^^
Neat work!
I was actually thinking about that while editing. The views are something you NEED to take in, but youtube wants shorter more condensed videos. Maybe I'll have to do a redo version in a year or 2 haha thanks for the love morgan!
the commentary was freakin on point, i wish the video was longer.
thanks for watching, I got a few other videos on the Canadian you should check out :)
Trav......are you playing this season? I haven't seen any ewcent videos on this. Thanks buddy.
I've announced it on the podcast already "slangin the bizkit" but will announce on the vlog in 2 weeks :)

how do u get the outside shots while the train is moving
I filmed the train at different times :)
Hey Trav, just wondering if u still have the links to your old compilation videos for years past or if you could share them with me, I heard a song the other day that was in one of the videos and it got me feeling nostalgic and I see you have removed them from RUclips for some reason, any way you can help me out, just wanna watch them
Those are channel member exclusive videos my friend ;) $5 a month gets you access to all of them
@@trav4oilers And how do I do that?
Question can I get the window seat? Because if I end up sitting with someone I prefer window
Just leave a note on your booking
Ah yes. Melville, Sk. The city was named for Charles Melville Hayes, who at the time of the settlement's initial construction was the president of the Grand Trunk Railway. Hays was on board the Titanic when it sank.
Melville is also the home if Tim Cheveldae and good ol Ron Hextall also played for the Mils. That's it....i'm out of Melville info. I work for that pesky freight railroad here. The novelty wears off a bit when your on trains every day. Cool video though. Well done.
You my friend are now the official Melville tourist guide

About 600-700 toronto to vancouver and back

what utter nonsense....traveling economy from GTA to Vancouver is close to hell....there is nothing to do..u are stuck in a restricted seat, no showers, no wife, no food (unless u bring your own or by the expensive stuff they sell on the train)...they do offer hot water but u have to bring your own supplies....one or two toilets that are used by dozens of people in economy.and it is a real mess...the noise is unbearable....the train stops very frequently to let cargo trains pass by....this is one trip u must avoid...all this BS about the scenery...u wont see sheet...as it often rainy and dark...and you are too hungry to worry about the landscape....try not changing your underpants for 5 days and u will get the feeling ...u are better off paying the $600 and flying....i have experienced this trip and it is a nightmare....read other reviews on economy travel to vancouver or vice versa and u will see that i am not speakng from my backside...on social media people tend to brag or hype all sorts of crap....
